Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 60
The next day, at a relatively remote Western restaurant near the film studio that usually saw few customers, Shi Fangxuan, dressed in elegant attire, sat at the corner table, waiting for the person she was meeting.
A few more minutes passed. She glanced down at her phone, and when she looked up again, the person she had been waiting for had arrived. Led by a waiter, he made his way to the seat opposite her.
Xu Rongjiang was dressed in an exquisitely tailored suit, paired with a tie that accentuated his dignified aura. At a glance, he looked like an Alpha who had long been in a position of power. As he sat down, he smiled at Shi Fangxuan, “I didn’t expect you to agree to have a meal with me. I’m truly happy to see you again today, Fangxuan.”
Though his smile was exceptionally gentle, Shi Fangxuan still felt a wave of disgust.
She forced a faint, insincere smile in response.
Xu Rongjiang, however, didn’t seem to mind at all. His entire demeanor softened as he poured a glass of water for Shi Fangxuan and called the waiter over, effortlessly listing her favorite dishes and dietary restrictions.
The food arrived quickly, and for some reason, all the restaurant staff seemed to vanish after serving the dishes.
A flicker of suspicion crossed Xu Rongjiang’s mind, but his attention was soon drawn back to Shi Fangxuan.
Leaning back in her chair, Shi Fangxuan tapped her phone screen a few times before turning it off and placing it face down on the table. She looked at the man across from her, a man in his forties who, thanks to meticulous upkeep, still appeared strikingly charming and asked, “After all these years, you still remember these things.”
Hearing this, Xu Rongjiang suddenly straightened his posture, almost like an eager young man. His gaze grew somewhat distant, and a smile played on his lips. “Of course I remember. I remember everything about you. In fact, I remember it more clearly than I remember my own life.”
Shi Fangxuan seemed somewhat moved as well. Her eyes flickered briefly. “Back then…”
“Let’s not bring up the past,” Xu Rongjiang interrupted abruptly, looking up. “What’s done is done, Fangxuan. Let’s not talk about it anymore. Back then, I wasn’t capable enough. I couldn’t promise you a bright future.”
For many years afterward, whenever Xu Rongjiang recalled the time he had spent with Shi Fangxuan, he was filled with resentment.
Back then, he was just a poor young man who had to study hard to earn the top scholarship just to survive. Being looked down upon and abandoned by a wealthy young lady was an indelible humiliation for someone with his intense pride.
But now, things were different. He had achieved success, amassed billions in assets, and a single decision from him could shape the futures of many.
His eyes gleamed with intensity as he said, “I have the ability now, Fangxuan. I can buy you anything you want and help you accomplish anything you desire.”
The implication was clear: he could now give Shi Fangxuan the future she had once wanted.
Shi Fangxuan listened quietly as Xu Rongjiang continued with heartfelt emotion, “You went abroad back then, and I thought I’d never see you again. No matter who I asked, I couldn’t find any news of you. You were so ruthless back then. I never imagined I’d see you again in this lifetime. Fangxuan, nearly twenty years have passed, and I still love you. I’ve never been able to forget you. Are you married now?”
After hearing the middle-aged man’s heartfelt confession, Shi Fangxuan rested her right hand on her knee, tapping it rhythmically.
After an unknown period of silence, she finally shook her head. “No.”
Xu Rongjiang visibly relaxed. In fact, he had secretly investigated Shi Fangxuan’s current marital status and had received the same answer. Still, he had worried she might have married in secret without his knowledge.
“That’s good,” he said with a smile. “Then, can you give me a chance? Starting today, I’ll pursue you properly. I’ll treat you well.”
Logically speaking, given Xu Rongjiang’s current wealth and status, he could have any Omega he wanted, with plenty to choose from.
Yet he had never been able to forget Shi Fangxuan from all those years ago. For so long, she had lingered in his heart like a pure, unattainable moonlight.
He should have let go of this obsession, but when Shi Fangxuan’s name suddenly appeared alongside Xu Zhiyi’s in the news, that unwillingness surged within him once more.
Once the thought of reclaiming Shi Fangxuan surfaced, it became impossible to suppress.
To achieve this goal, Xu Rongjiang even felt he would be willing to sacrifice everything he had now.
“Pursue me?” Shi Fangxuan glanced briefly at her phone before looking away, letting out an emotionless laugh. “If my information is correct, Mr. Xu, you married another woman after me, and recently, it seems you’re about to become engaged to another lady named Ruan Qingyu. If I were truly the only one in your heart, how could you possibly be engaged to another Omega?”
To Xu Rongjiang, her words implied that he still had a chance that Shi Fangxuan had taken the time and effort to investigate him, suggesting she still held lingering feelings for him.
His heart leaped with joy, and he hurriedly denied it. “My wife is already dead. Even though I married her, I never loved her. And as for this engagement, it won’t happen. I don’t love any of them. If you dislike Qingyu, I’ll kick her out of my house right now. From now on, you will be my only wife!”
At this point, Xu Rongjiang saw no reason to hide anything. “Believe me, Fangxuan. The only reason I was ever kind to Ruan Qingyu was because she reminded me a little of you. I never loved her. After you left, I got into Capital University and met her there. I just missed you so much, if she hadn’t resembled you in some way, I wouldn’t have given her a second glance.”
If one ignored the content of his words and only observed Xu Rongjiang’s expression and tone, anyone would have been moved by his apparent sincerity.
A soft, pattering sound of footsteps came from the second floor of the restaurant. Xu Rongjiang, completely absorbed in Shi Fangxuan, didn’t notice the noise at all.
His tone turned disdainful as he rushed to distance himself. “All she does is cry and whine all day. She’s utterly useless and only annoys me not even worthy of comparing to a single strand of your hair.”
“Xu Rongjiang!” A sharp cry cut him off.
Startled by the interruption, Xu Rongjiang was initially annoyed. But when he turned to see who it was, his expression froze completely. Standing not far away, wide-eyed and glaring at him in fury, was none other than Ruan Qingyu, the woman he had just been disparaging.
How had Ruan Qingyu ended up here?
Just as this thought crossed his mind, another familiar figure emerged from behind Ruan Qingyu. Ruan Yang stood to the right and slightly behind Ruan Qingyu, silently exchanging a glance with Shi Fangxuan.
Xu Rongjiang didn’t notice this glance; he was frowning at Ruan Qingyu.
Tears had long since streamed from Ruan Qingyu’s eyes. She had originally come because Ruan Yang called, saying he wanted to eat her braised pork ribs. Thinking he had softened, she hurriedly made the dish and brought it over. When they were looking for a quiet restaurant to have a meal together, they unexpectedly heard Xu Rongjiang’s voice from a corner as soon as they stepped inside.
After standing at the entrance for a while, pulled along by Ruan Yang, and hearing those words, she could no longer hold back and rushed over.
“Xu Rongjiang!” Her entire body trembled, as if she still couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Gasping for breath, she cried out, “What do you mean by this?! Are you saying that all these years, you’ve been treating me as a substitute for this woman?”
She waved her arms frantically, her hair disheveled in her agitation, looking as though she might lunge at Xu Rongjiang at any moment.
Seeing her like this, Xu Rongjiang’s expression darkened with displeasure.
He instinctively glanced around, relieved to find that the restaurant was empty except for them not even a waiter in sight.
As if embarrassed, he said impatiently, “Don’t make a scene here. Go back first, and I’ll talk to you later.”
“Talk to me about what?!” Ruan Qingyu’s voice was shrill and piercing. “About kicking me out of your house so this woman can move in?”
As she spoke, she pointed a finger at Shi Fangxuan and glared at her.
Though she was unwilling to admit it, the moment she laid eyes on Shi Fangxuan, the thought “they really do look alike” uncontrollably surfaced in her mind.
What’s more, as an actress with years of professional upkeep, Shi Fangxuan’s overall condition was far better than her own.
Dressed elegantly and sitting quietly, Shi Fangxuan only made Ruan Qingyu feel more like a shrew in comparison.
Xu Rongjiang’s earlier words echoed in her ears, she wasn’t even worth a strand of this woman’s hair.
Tears streamed even more fiercely down Ruan Qingyu’s face.
She thought again of how Xu Rongjiang had just accused her of crying all the time.
In that moment, the dissatisfaction and disappointment she had long suppressed finally erupted.
She closed her eyes, holding back her tears. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and Ruan Qingyu stumbled backward as if losing her strength. Fortunately, Ruan Yang reached out to steady her, preventing her from collapsing to the floor.
Meeting Ruan Yang’s gaze, Ruan Qingyu suddenly lost the will to fight.
That look seemed to give her strength. She lowered her hands, took two steps back, and said hoarsely, “Forget it.”
Forget it.
“You don’t need to say anything,” Ruan Qingyu said, her entire being weighed down by exhaustion, as if she had aged ten years in an instant. “Let it be, Rongjiang. I’ll move out on my own.”
With that, she covered her face and ran out.
Ruan Yang noticed Xu Rongjiang’s instinctive step forward as if to chase after her, but he quickly caught himself, frowned at Shi Fangxuan, and retracted the movement.
And so, Ruan Yang understood Xu Rongjiang’s love for his mother was pitifully scarce.
She glanced at Shi Fangxuan not far away, then at Xu Rongjiang, before quickly running out herself to chase after Ruan Qingyu.
The film studio complex had a maze-like layout, and she was worried her mother might get lost.
Soon, only Xu Rongjiang and Shi Fangxuan remained in the restaurant. Shi Fangxuan remained seated, as if the earlier commotion had nothing to do with her.
She gave the motionless Xu Rongjiang a meaningful look and asked in an ambiguous tone, “Aren’t you going after her? After all, she’s been by your side for so many years.”
A flicker of hesitation crossed Xu Rongjiang’s expression, but it lasted only a moment. His gaze at Shi Fangxuan grew even more resolute. “No, Fangxuan. Like I just said, my heart belongs only to you. Have you thought about what I said earlier?”
Shi Fangxuan laughed almost immediately. Though she tried to hide it, a hint of mockery was visible in her eyes.
“No, Mr. Xu,” she said, standing up and picking up her phone from the table. “I made up my mind years ago, I will never marry anyone in this lifetime.”
Someone like Xu Rongjiang, who could so easily abandon the partner who had accompanied him for years, might just as easily discard her for someone else someday.
His obsession with her was nothing more than unresolved resentment from his youth.
A man’s promises were never to be trusted.
She forced a smile. “This is how I feel now, and it’s how I’ll always feel. I’m sorry to disappoint your goodwill.”
With that, Shi Fangxuan slipped her phone into her bag and walked toward the restaurant entrance.
“Please don’t come looking for me again, Mr. Xu. Goodbye.”
As she stepped outside, a van parked nearby quickly pulled up, its door opening to let her in.
Before Xu Rongjiang could fully process her words, Shi Fangxuan had already vanished from sight.
He rushed out in a hurry, his eyes fixed on the vehicle carrying Shi Fangxuan, so focused that he didn’t notice another figure blocking his path.
“Move!” Xu Rongjiang snapped impatiently, eager to catch up.
But the figure didn’t budge. Losing patience, Xu Rongjiang stopped and looked down, only to find Xu Zhiyi standing before him.
Seeing Xu Rongjiang in such a state, Xu Zhiyi let out a cold laugh and ended the call she had been on.
She had been waiting outside the entire time, listening in on the conversation inside through a call with Shi Fangxuan.
She looked up, studying her father carefully.
Xu Rongjiang felt extremely uncomfortable under her gaze. He had always treated Xu Zhiyi poorly, and now he lashed out accusingly, “Xu Zhiyi? What are you doing here?”
It suddenly dawned on him that there had been too many coincidences and strange occurrences today. Seeing Xu Zhiyi, he instinctively blamed her for everything.
His eyes burned with anger as he glared at her.
“Was today all because of you? Did you call Qingyu here?”
Look at this, what kind of father would look at his own daughter with such hatred?
Xu Zhiyi didn’t feel even a hint of sadness. In that moment, she realized she had long stopped expecting anything from this man she called father.
She curled her lips emotionlessly and replied indifferently, “So what if I did?”
“Xu Zhiyi!” Xu Rongjiang raised his hand in fury. “Are you out of your mind?”
“Go ahead, try hitting me.” Xu Zhiyi showed no fear, tilting her chin up without flinching. “If you dare lay a hand on me, I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life.”
“Do you think I won’t?!” Xu Rongjiang roared, his anger boiling over.
How dare she defy him like this!
If he couldn’t control others, could he not even discipline his own daughter?!
But just as his hand was about to strike, he met Xu Zhiyi’s gaze.
It was the first time he had seen such icy indifference in her eyes as if all hope had been extinguished.
It reminded him of the day Xu Zhiyi’s mother died, when he rushed home after receiving the housekeeper’s call and witnessed her leap from the upper floor.
The look in her eyes as she lay on the ground was identical to the one Xu Zhiyi now wore.
That gaze, spanning so many years, flooded back into his mind, stirring a deep-seated fear within him.
The slap never landed.
Seeing him falter, Xu Zhiyi let out another cold laugh.
“I don’t see a single redeeming quality in you, Father,” she said. “I truly can’t understand what my mother ever saw in you back then.”
At her words, Xu Rongjiang’s eyes darted away, as if recalling something deeply unpleasant and struggling to avoid it.
Xu Zhiyi narrowed her eyes and finally sighed with realization.
“You’ve grown old, Father.”
“No,” Xu Rongjiang shook his head vigorously, wiping his face with a trembling hand. His suit was crumpled, and he hastily denied it, “No, I’m not old. I’m not old!”
But Xu Zhiyi paid no attention to his protests. She merely stated softly, “I will take it all back.”
Everything that belonged to the Xu family, everything that was her mother’s, she would reclaim it all from Xu Rongjiang’s grasp.
“What do you mean? Take back what?” Xu Rongjiang seemed tormented, yet he widened his eyes and pressed her further. “What are you planning to take back?!”
Xu Zhiyi didn’t answer. Without so much as a glance at him, she turned and walked away, leaving the restaurant behind.
