Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 53.1
Hearing this, Qu Lingxuan’s eyes widened instantly.
The accusation and indignation in her gaze gradually shifted into deep confusion and shock.
“You knew?!” Her voice unconsciously rose in pitch. “You actually knew all along?”
In that moment, countless scenes flashed through Qu Lingxuan’s mind from the first time she had seen Ruan Yang, to the interactions between Ruan Yang and Xu Zhiyi afterward. Everything she had witnessed or missed, remembered or forgotten, now surged through her thoughts like a flood.
So stunned was she that her lips parted involuntarily.
And in that same second, Qu Lingxuan finally realized that not only did Ruan Yang treat Xu Zhiyi differently, but Xu Zhiyi also seemed to treat Ruan Yang in a way unlike anyone else.
She had noticed from the very first time she saw Ruan Yang and Xu Zhiyi together that Ruan Yang was special to Xu Zhiyi so why had she gradually forgotten that later?
Now, with all her memories rushing back, Qu Lingxuan suppressed her shock and furrowed her brow.
Straining to keep her tone calm, she asked, “Zhiyi, do you realize what you’re doing?”
If Xu Zhiyi knew everything and still remained silent, allowing Ruan Yang’s feelings for her to grow, did that mean Xu Zhiyi also.
This was absurd.
“Lingxuan-jie,” Xu Zhiyi’s tone remained unchanged, seemingly unaffected by Qu Lingxuan’s intense emotional shift. “As I said earlier, we’ve been apart for a long time. This is my business, and it has nothing to do with you.”
Though her tone was the same as before, Qu Lingxuan could detect a clear distance in Xu Zhiyi’s attitude.
Her brows knitted tightly together. “How can it have nothing to do with me, Zhiyi? You know I only want what’s best for you.”
“I’m not your accessory, Lingxuan-jie,” Xu Zhiyi interrupted her.
Qu Lingxuan could almost picture Xu Zhiyi’s expression as she said this, a slight curve to her lips, her eyes crinkling as if in a smile, yet her words carried a chilling coldness.
“I assume you’ve already looked into it. If you have, then you should know that Ruan Yang is not my biological sister. Her mother and my father never married.” Xu Zhiyi paused briefly before continuing, “and they never will.”
Qu Lingxuan understood what Xu Zhiyi meant, she was telling her that she and Ruan Yang were not bound by any relationship that would forbid them from developing feelings for each other.
Especially since the two of them hadn’t even clarified the nature of their connection yet.
Countless words lodged in Qu Lingxuan’s throat, but though her lips moved, no sound came out for a long while.
By the time she regained her composure, Xu Zhiyi had already hung up.
Night had fallen. Qu Lingxuan sat in the dark room, lost in thought, her fingers gripping the phone so tightly they turned white.
After Xu Zhiyi ended the call, Jiang Jiang walked in.
Before Xu Zhiyi could speak, Jiang Jiang, as if anticipating her question, quickly said, “Don’t worry, Zhiyi-jie. Sister Liang just called. She said your contract with Xunguang only has a little over half a month left, and they’ve agreed to your early termination. Sister Liang wants us to go sign the termination contract tomorrow.”
Xun Guang probably figured that with only ten days left, there was no point in keeping her tied down. It was better to give Xu Zhiyi a favor, part on good terms, and leave room for future collaboration.
Upon learning this outcome, Xu Zhiyi felt neither surprised nor elated. She hadn’t paid much attention to Qu Lingxuan’s earlier remarks. She had always been a self-assured person, doing what she wanted without worrying about others’ opinions.
Besides, Qu Lingxuan’s thoughts meant nothing to her.
The thought of signing with Ruan Yang under her own studio after terminating her contract with Xun Guang made Xu Zhiyi smile softly as she let out a sigh of relief.
“There’s more good news,” Jiang Jiang said, her eyes crinkling with a smile. “Sister Liang just told me she’s decided to leave Xun Guang and join your studio!”
“Really?” Xu Zhiyi’s eyes lit up.
“Yes! She said once she wraps up her current projects and hands over her artists, she’ll come straight to you!”
Xu Zhiyi’s mood brightened even more. Her own studio was almost ready, but with her busy filming schedule, she hadn’t had much time to manage it. Having known Liang Siting for years, she trusted her character and abilities completely. With Liang Siting on board, she could save a lot of energy.
The next day, Xu Zhiyi went to Run Ying and signed the contract termination agreement.
Meanwhile, Jiang Jiang logged into her Weibo account and posted a farewell message to Run Ying, thanking the company in a formal tone for their support over the years. Run Ying quickly reposted the message, expressing hopes for future collaboration.
Jiang Jiang sneered coldly, recalling how Xun Guang had treated Xu Zhiyi in the past, and didn’t bother responding further.
Even if Xu Zhiyi didn’t say anything, she remembered Xun Guang’s true colors all too well!
After posting the message, Jiang Jiang registered an official Weibo account for Xu Zhiyi’s studio. Soon, the hashtags #XuZhiyiTerminatesContract and #XuZhiyiEstablishesStudio climbed rapidly to the top of the trending list.
Opinions online were mixed, but Xu Zhiyi paid no mind to the speculation about her departure. After signing the contract, she and Jiang Jiang walked out of Xun Guang and got into their car. Outside, a crowd of reporters with cameras had gathered, hoping to interview Xu Zhiyi. Amid the flashing lights, Xu Zhiyi turned back and caught one last glimpse of the Xun Guang building through the gaps in the crowd.
Through her sunglasses, she couldn’t make out the building’s original color.
Suddenly, she remembered the day she first entered the entertainment industry and stepped into Xun Guang for the very first time.
The weather that day had been even better than today. Standing in the sunlight streaming through the glass windows, her agent Liang Siting had taken one look at her and exclaimed with admiration, telling her she had a bright future ahead in this industry.
Xu Zhiyi smiled faintly and closed the car window.
“Let’s go,” she told the driver.
“Where to?” Jiang Jiang asked.
Xu Zhiyi closed her eyes and leaned back against the seat.
“To our studio.”
And to our bright future.
Two days later, Xu Zhiyi arrived at Run Ying, where Ruan Yang and several senior executives were waiting at the entrance.
Seeing her approach, Ruan Yang’s lips curved slightly, as if she were smiling or perhaps letting out a sigh of relief.
Just as she was about to step toward Xu Zhiyi, the general manager of Run Ying moved first and walked over to greet her.
“Miss Zhiyi.” The general manager offered an ingratiating smile, treating Xu Zhiyi with the utmost deference. “You’ve arrived. Let me escort you inside.”
The employees of Runying who witnessed this scene from behind the glass windows upstairs were utterly stunned. When had they ever seen the general manager, who usually wore a cold expression toward everyone, act so obsequiously?
Xu Zhiyi first lifted her gaze to scan the Runying building, then glanced at Ruan Yang, who had stopped walking behind the general manager. A slight smile curled her lips before she finally directed her attention to the general manager.
She gave a slight nod. “Then I’ll trouble you, Sister Su.”
The general manager was a trusted confidante handpicked and promoted by Xu Rongjiang to manage Runying. Xu Zhiyi had once seen her reporting to Xu Rongjiang at Ruochu, which was why her smile toward the general manager wasn’t particularly sincere.
