Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 51.1
This question made Ruan Yang stop what she was doing almost instantly.
Her earlier resolve and confidence suddenly dissipated by half. She picked up the wine glass beside her and, under the pretense of taking a sip of water, stole a glance at Xu Zhiyi.
Seeing that Xu Zhiyi’s expression remained relatively calm, with no apparent signs of anger, Ruan Yang let out an almost imperceptible sigh of relief.
After setting down the glass, Ruan Yang was about to speak, but unexpectedly, Xu Zhiyi answered before she could. “I had Jiangjiang look into it. It was my father who arranged for you to enter Runying, wasn’t it?”
It didn’t surprise Ruan Yang that Xu Zhiyi had investigated the matter. What did surprise her was that Xu Zhiyi’s reaction was far calmer than she had imagined.
If it had been the Xu Zhiyi of the past, she would have immediately confronted Ruan Yang with a darkened expression, demanding to know what she was up to.
But today’s Xu Zhiyi didn’t do that. She sat quietly across from her and calmly stated the facts.
“Mm,” Ruan Yang replied, not revealing her true purpose for entering Runying.
Although Ruan Yang was well aware that Xu Zhiyi didn’t want her father to marry Ruan Yang’s mother, now wasn’t the time to bring that issue into the open. Ruan Yang sidestepped the question and instead said, “I’ve been meaning to talk to you about this.”
“I just didn’t know how to bring it up.”
As she spoke these words, Ruan Yang’s gaze unconsciously drifted downward, glancing at Xu Zhiyi’s phone on the table. Her eyes carried a hint of moisture, as if silently accusing Xu Zhiyi of ignoring her messages for days.
Under such a gaze, Xu Zhiyi’s grip on her chopsticks tightened slightly. Her eyes flickered involuntarily, and a small part of her heart suddenly softened.
But she quickly masked her emotional fluctuation and smiled again. “So you withdrew one message and left me guessing for days?”
Xu Zhiyi’s words, at the very least, indicated that the withdrawn message had occupied her thoughts.
It hadn’t been entirely without impact.
Thinking this, the feelings of grievance and frustration in Ruan Yang’s heart receded somewhat.
“I’m sorry,” Xu Zhiyi said, looking at her. “I’ve been too busy these past few days and didn’t have time to reply.”
Truth be told, even Xu Zhiyi herself didn’t fully understand why she had been so stubborn these past few days.
She was merely dissatisfied that Ruan Yang’s seemingly affectionate gestures toward her in the past were all based on physiological reactions.
But was that really the case? Did Ruan Yang truly have no feelings for her?
Take, for example, that girl surnamed Lu she had just seen. Was it really Ruan Yang who had helped expose Zheng Tang back then?
Xu Zhiyi’s gaze traced the contours of Ruan Yang’s brows and eyes.
Rather than attributing it to Miss Lu’s whims, she trusted her own intuition more.
She refused to believe that Ruan Yang could look at her with empty eyes.
The part of her heart that had just softened felt as though a finger had gently poked it. The knot that had troubled Xu Zhiyi for so long seemed to unravel abruptly at that moment.
She curved her lips into a gentle smile and said softly, “I promise you, from now on, I’ll reply to your messages promptly.”
“This won’t happen again.”
Ruan Yang’s pupils contracted slightly, as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard from Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi was making a promise to her?
In the past, this was something Ruan Yang hardly dared to imagine.
Realizing that she had forgotten the negative emotions from a few days ago just because of Xu Zhiyi’s simple promise, she let out a silent laugh.
It even carried a hint of self-mockery.
Ruan Yang, you’re so easily appeased.
With just one sentence, one promise from Xu Zhiyi, you forget everything.
“I really have been busy these past few days,” Xu Zhiyi said. “You know, my contract with Xunguang is about to expire, and I’ve been running around to finish up the last few commitments.”
Ruan Yang was aware of this. She noticed that Xu Zhiyi seemed less energetic than before, probably worn out from the workload.
Not being one to offer too many comforting words, she simply sped up the pace of picking out the chili peppers and asked, “Are you done with everything now?”
“Yes, the contract expires in half a month, and I have no work during this time, so I can rest properly.” Xu Zhiyi watched quietly as Ruan Yang picked out the chili peppers for her. As she spoke, she seemed to recall something.
She narrowed her eyes, as if musing to herself, yet with a meaningful tone, she said, “I wonder if I’ll be able to find new work after terminating my contract with Xunguang. I used to have plenty of roles to take on, but if there’s nothing after this, and I’m just idle all day, I’m not sure what I’ll do.”
Why not come to me? I have roles for you to play.
Ruan Yang uncontrollably parted her lips, the words already on the tip of her tongue. But just as she was about to speak, she swallowed them back.
She had almost forgotten, the projects she had were from Runying, the kind Xu Zhiyi would never take.
Ruan Yang pressed her lips together. How could Xu Zhiyi possibly have no roles to play? Given her status in the industry, her popularity with audiences, and her undeniable acting skills and talent, even after terminating her contract with Xunguang, countless companies would be vying to sign her.
What she had just said was nothing more than a casual, self-deprecating remark, and yet Ruan Yang had almost taken it seriously.
She said nothing, simply listening quietly.
As she remained silent, Xu Zhiyi across from her also stopped speaking for some reason.
The silence made the already small room feel even more cramped.
Did she not understand?
Xu Zhiyi put down her chopsticks and began to wonder if she hadn’t hinted clearly enough.
Ruan Yang noticed Xu Zhiyi’s unusual behavior. She looked up and saw Xu Zhiyi frowning slightly, so she asked, “So, what are your plans after this?”
She seemed to recall Xu Zhiyi’s fans saying that she intended to establish her own studio afterward.
Xu Zhiyi’s frown slowly eased. She lifted her gaze and said leisurely, “I do have some plans.”
“I recently came across a script that I thought was quite good. I plan to discuss it with the director.”
Is that so…
Ruan Yang suddenly felt relieved that she hadn’t asked earlier.
A script that Xu Zhiyi found appealing was surely far better than hers.
She let out a soft sigh and noticed that only a few chili peppers remained in the dish.
It was impossible not to feel disappointed. Xu Zhiyi had repeatedly mentioned her upcoming free time tonight, making Ruan Yang uncontrollably start to hope.
That Xu Zhiyi would act in her project.
Even her movements as she picked out the chili peppers slowed. Ruan Yang’s voice grew noticeably lower. “Then, I wish you success, Sister Zhiyi.”
As soon as the words fell, Ruan Yang heard Xu Zhiyi’s laughter from not far away.
She didn’t look up, and thus didn’t see Xu Zhiyi staring at her profile her face was smiling, but the hand resting on the table was pale from pressing hard against the tablecloth.
“I’m starting to doubt my own judgment now,” she said. “This director was sharp when picking scripts, but when I took the initiative to approach her it seemed like she had no idea what I meant.”
Ruan Yang’s raised hand paused abruptly, her eyes widening almost instantly as she turned to look at Xu Zhiyi.
The last chili pepper she had just picked up fell back into the bowl because of her sudden movement.
Seeing Ruan Yang’s stunned reaction, Xu Zhiyi finally relaxed her tense body.
She had heard from her agent, Sister Liang, that the lead Omega role in Ruan Yang’s film had not yet been finalized. Although Qu Shanshan had already auditioned, for some reason, Ruan Yang hadn’t confirmed her for the part.
No one knew how nervous she had been just moments ago, afraid that Ruan Yang would say she had already promised the role to someone else.
Fortunately, Ruan Yang’s reaction now put her mind at ease perhaps she still had a good chance.
“She just wished me success,” Xu Zhiyi said, pouring water into her cup and raising it slightly in Ruan Yang’s direction. She smiled. “And now, Director Ruan, do you still think I can succeed?”
Something seemed to explode quietly in Ruan Yang’s mind.
Xu Zhiyi’s form of address reminded her of a certain night years ago.
Back then, Ruan Yang had just graduated from high school, and Xu Zhiyi had only just entered the entertainment industry. Without revealing her family background as a member of the Xu family, she struggled to make her way on her own, facing countless hardships.
