Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 21.1
“Meow!” A sharp cat cry rang out. The black cat had just scratched the back of Ruan Yang’s hand before being caught again by the production assistant, whose face was covered in claw marks.
“Xiao Ruan!” The director had originally come over to comfort Xu Zhiyi, but upon seeing the wound on Ruan Yang’s hand, he hurried to her side. “Xiao Ruan, are you okay?!”
Ruan Yang was still tightly shielding Xu Zhiyi in her arms. Only after hearing the director’s voice did she finally turn her head.
After confirming that the cat had been taken away by the production assistant, she slowly lowered her hand and glanced at the back of it.
The skin on her hand had been torn open by the cat’s claws, and tiny beads of blood were welling up.
Before Ruan Yang could speak, Xu Zhiyi pulled her hand away and grasped her wrist.
Xu Zhiyi’s expression was grave as she looked at the production assistant, who had just returned. “Has that cat been vaccinated?”
“It has,” the production assistant replied, inexplicably intimidated by Xu Zhiyi’s gaze. He shrank back slightly. “But if you’re worried, Zhiyi, I can take Assistant Ruan to the hospital for another shot.”
The hospital wasn’t far from here, and getting a vaccine would indeed be more reassuring.
Jiang Jiang had already rushed over with a first aid kit. Hearing this, she hesitated, unsure whether to hand it over or not.
Xu Zhiyi glanced at Ruan Yang’s hand again.
It was a very beautiful hand well-maintained, with slender fingers and fair, smooth skin. If it were to scar, even though it wasn’t her own hand, Xu Zhiyi would still feel regret.
She took the first aid kit from Jiang Jiang, pulled out some iodine, and disinfected Ruan Yang’s wound. In a tone that brooked no argument, she said, “Go get a vaccine later, understand?”
The hand Xu Zhiyi was gently holding had already begun to sweat. Ruan Yang responded softly with an “Mm,” her eyes sparkling as she blinked, gazing at Xu Zhiyi like this.
Jiang Jiang, standing closest to the two, naturally noticed Ruan Yang’s expression.
She hugged the first aid kit tightly, puzzled. Was it her imagination, or did Assistant Ruan seem especially obedient around her Zhiyi-jie?
Like a little puppy eagerly awaiting its owner’s attention.
Xu Zhiyi had been looking down the whole time, but when she raised her head, she also noticed Ruan Yang’s gaze. She sensed something unusual in it.
Logically speaking, Ruan Yang had gotten hurt protecting her, so it would be reasonable for her to accompany Ruan Yang to the hospital.
But the pounding in her chest hadn’t yet fully settled.
This feeling was utterly unfamiliar to Xu Zhiyi.
Unconsciously, she took a step back and slowly released Ruan Yang’s hand, turning to the production assistant.
“Then I’ll trouble you to take her there.”
Almost the moment Xu Zhiyi turned her head, Jiang Jiang watched as the light in Ruan Yang’s eyes dimmed at an astonishing speed.
By the time Zhiyi-jie looked back again, Ruan Yang’s expression had returned to its usual cool indifference, as if nothing mattered.
Jiang Jiang was stunned.
After speaking, Xu Zhiyi turned to the director. “Director, today’s filming is done, right? I’ll head back first.”
The director, finally able to get a word in, glanced at Xu Zhiyi’s disheveled hair and nodded. “Go ahead.”
Then he turned to Ruan Yang and asked, “Xiao Ruan, tonight’s incident was truly unexpected, and I’m very sorry. Thank you for protecting Zhiyi earlier. If her face had been injured, the progress of this drama would have been delayed even further. Are you scared? If you are, I can arrange for two more people to accompany you?”
Out of the corner of her eye, Xu Zhiyi’s figure grew increasingly distant. Ruan Yang felt as if her soul had been clawed away by that cat.
She shook her head. “It’s fine, Director. No need to worry about me.”
The production assistant escorted Ruan Yang to the car. By the time she returned after getting the vaccine, Group B’s scenes still hadn’t finished filming.
Standing far in the back, Ruan Yang took a glance. Zheng Tang’s performance today was abysmal perhaps angered by the online comments, she kept forgetting her lines, her emotions were off, and her face remained sullen.
Late at night, a whole group of people were stuck waiting for scenes that should have been wrapped up long ago, and the resentment was palpable. The Group B director, exhausted, lit a cigarette and couldn’t help but scold Zheng Tang a few times. Zheng Tang’s performance worsened, and the shots became increasingly unbearable.
In the end, it almost turned into a vicious cycle.
Just from that distant glance, Ruan Yang could feel the suffocating tension among the group.
Honestly, Ruan Yang couldn’t quite figure out what Xu Zhiyi truly thought of Zheng Tang.
Xu Zhiyi would take Zheng Tang home, allow her into rooms others were forbidden to enter, and congratulate her when she won awards.
But she would also install surveillance in those rooms, coldly stand by when Ruan Yang secretly exposed Zheng Tang, and even have her studio’s official Weibo account publicly denounce Zheng Tang.
Did Xu Zhiyi really like Zheng Tang?
She couldn’t find the answer.
Ruan Yang returned to her room and quickly fell asleep.
Over the next two days, Xu Zhiyi seemed to be racing against the director’s schedule, throwing herself entirely into her work, filming countless scenes in a single day.
Anyone could see that the relationship between the two leads had deteriorated to an all-time low. Xu Zhiyi barely acknowledged Zheng Tang, and Zheng Tang wasn’t keen on forcing warmth where there was none.
The two of them performed their scenes together with almost no interaction.
The entire set was unusually somber as a result.
Perhaps it was just Ruan Yang’s imagination, but she felt like Xu Zhiyi had been avoiding her these past two days.
Otherwise, why despite being on the same set and watching Xu Zhiyi film all day had she barely exchanged a glance or a word with her in days?
Once she realized this, Ruan Yang’s expression grew even more solemn.
She glanced at Xu Zhiyi, who was reading her script not far away, then lowered her gaze to her own hand, lost in thought for a moment before walking toward a corner.
In that corner was her water bottle. Ruan Yang picked it up gently, barely applying any force. As she turned, the already unsteady bottle slipped from her hand and fell to the ground with a soft but audible clatter.
Ruan Yang seemed stunned, standing frozen for a few seconds before finally bending down to pick it up.
She placed the bottle back carefully, her face crestfallen, and left the area.
As she walked away, she stole another glance in Xu Zhiyi’s direction.
Xu Zhiyi was still reading her script, appearing no different from before, as if the commotion hadn’t affected her at all.
But Ruan Yang noticed one thing.
Xu Zhiyi’s script was upside down.
–
The day’s filming wrapped up quickly. After finishing her evening tasks, Ruan Yang had just taken a shower and was sitting on the bed writing a summary of her experiences when the doorbell rang.
She glanced at her phone, it was already 10 PM. She got up to answer the door.
As soon as she opened it, she saw a slender figure standing outside, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, head bowed, revealing only a stretch of fair, delicate neck pale as jade, evoking endless imagination.
The corners of Ruan Yang’s lips curled into a faint, almost imperceptible smile, but she quickly schooled her expression, feigning confusion. “Zhi… Zhiyi-jie?”
Only then did the person across from her lift her head, revealing a face so stunning it needed no makeup.
“What?” Xu Zhiyi arched a brow, arms crossed, her gaze drifting pointedly to the back of Ruan Yang’s hand resting on the door handle. “Not welcome?”
The wound on Ruan Yang’s hand had already scabbed over. The cut wasn’t deep and was healing well likely wouldn’t even leave a scar.
Xu Zhiyi’s eyes flicked up, meeting Ruan Yang’s.
“N-no, of course not.” Noticing Xu Zhiyi’s gaze, Ruan Yang quickly peeked into the hallway outside before stepping aside to let her in.
After all, Xu Zhiyi was a top-tier actress, the nation’s sweetheart. If anyone spotted or photographed her visiting Ruan Yang at this hour, she could already imagine the malicious speculation that would flood the internet.
