Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 19
The car arrived quickly, and Xu Zhiyi gestured for Ruan Yang to get in with her.
“Aren’t you here to pick me up?” She walked to the other side and opened the car door, glancing at Ruan Yang. “Then come with me. It just so happens your classmates are having a gathering at the same hotel.”
Ruan Yang naturally wouldn’t refuse.
Once in the car, Xu Zhiyi kept her gaze fixed out the window, while Ruan Yang stole a few glances at her through the rearview mirror.
In the end, the rain never came.
Xu Zhiyi and Ruan Yang got out of the car, and after Ruan Yang returned the umbrella to the hotel, the two entered the elevator together.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Lu Yiye was already waiting at the entrance. Spotting Ruan Yang, she hurried over and grabbed her wrist. “Yangyang, why did you come so suddenly? You only told me after you arrived. If you’d let me know earlier, I could’ve picked you up.”
Before she could finish, Ruan Yang tugged at the hem of Lu Yiye’s clothes.
Lu Yiye’s words abruptly stopped at the gesture. She looked at Ruan Yang’s face, puzzled by the sudden tension in her expression.
The air around them seemed to freeze in an instant.
Ruan Yang stiffly turned to check Xu Zhiyi’s reaction, just in time to see her raise an eyebrow.
The corner of Xu Zhiyi’s lips curled slightly, and just as she was about to say something, two figures suddenly appeared before them.
“Zhiyi, you’re finally here!” One of the event organizers, a capable middle-aged woman, came out to greet Xu Zhiyi, followed by her assistant, Jiang Jiang.
The woman had intended to escort Xu Zhiyi inside immediately, but when she looked up, her eyes lit up. “Xiao Lu? What are you doing here?”
“Aunt Lin,” Lu Yiye smiled at her. “What a coincidence. I’m just here for a gathering with my classmates. Are you holding a celebration banquet?”
“Exactly! This hotel belongs to one of our investors, so the director brought us here,” the woman, referred to as Aunt Lin, grinned warmly. “Since you’re here, how about joining us? Bring your classmates along too. It’d be a great chance to introduce you to the director, your mother helped him out last time, after all.”
Ruan Yang knew Lu Yiye’s family ran an entertainment company, so it wasn’t surprising she knew these people.
But Xu Zhiyi suddenly turned her head as well, first glancing at Lu Yiye before her gaze settled on Ruan Yang again.
A thoughtful expression crossed her face.
Lu Yiye shot a look at Ruan Yang, noticing how intently she was staring at Xu Zhiyi, and pulled her toward Aunt Lin. “Is that really okay, Aunt Lin? We wouldn’t be intruding, would we?”
“Of course not!” The middle-aged woman beamed. “There are plenty of artists from your company inside. Don’t worry, it’s no trouble at all!”
She then looked at Ruan Yang, and despite being accustomed to beautiful faces in the entertainment industry, she was momentarily stunned.
Recovering quickly, she said, “Xiao Lu, is this your classmate? So she’s also in the directing department? My, she’s gorgeous, what a shame she isn’t a star! Go ahead and gather your classmates, then follow me. The banquet’s right over there!”
With that, Aunt Lin took Lu Yiye by the arm and led her toward the celebration banquet.
As Lu Yiye was pulled away, she dragged Ruan Yang along, and the two of them soon disappeared from sight.
Jiang Jiang waited until everyone else had left before taking small steps to Xu Zhiyi’s side. “Sister Zhiyi.”
Xu Zhiyi watched the retreating figures of the group, her gaze lingering on the hand Lu Yiye had tightly wrapped around Ruan Yang’s wrist.
“Did you ask Ruan Yang to pick me up?” she asked.
“Yes,” Jiang Jiang nodded. “At the time, Sister Liang was also coming here and asked me to fetch her. I was worried about leaving you alone, and when I stepped out, I happened to see Assistant Ruan. So I mentioned it to her and asked if she could pick you up, Sister Zhiyi.”
Jiang Jiang wouldn’t have trusted just anyone, but she had seen Assistant Ruan escort her Sister Zhiyi before. The fact that Sister Zhiyi allowed it meant she didn’t mind Assistant Ruan being close. That was why Jiang Jiang had dared to ask Ruan Yang for help.
Xu Zhiyi didn’t say anything more after hearing this, just stood there lost in thought for a while longer.
Judging by the tone of Ruan Yang’s classmate earlier, Ruan Yang’s arrival on this island had been sudden, not something they had planned in advance.
So why had Ruan Yang come here so abruptly?
Xu Zhiyi looked outside through the window at the end of the hotel corridor.
She had noticed Ruan Yang stealing glances at her in the car earlier.
“Go and look into that girl who was with Ruan Yang just now,” Xu Zhiyi said as she walked toward the banquet hall nearby. “Dig deep.”
Jiang Jiang nodded. “Don’t worry, Sister Zhiyi.”
As Jiang Jiang’s words faded, a sudden crackling sound erupted outside the window.
The rain had finally begun to fall.
–
Upon entering the banquet hall, Xu Zhiyi immediately spotted Ruan Yang surrounded by a crowd.
The girl from earlier was there too, and judging by the scene, the group around Ruan Yang were likely her classmates.
Ruan Yang stood among them, her expression calm. Though she spoke little, she seemed quite popular within the group.
They kept pulling her into conversation, and one of the guys even tugged her down to sit with them.
Perhaps the Alpha aura among them was too strong, it didn’t take long before a few Omega actors from the industry drifted over to toast them.
Ruan Yang received the most toasts.
Xu Zhiyi watched as Ruan Yang downed glass after glass without so much as a change in expression.
So much for her unnecessary concern.
Xu Zhiyi averted her gaze. These people were film students, already halfway into the entertainment industry. Why had she even worried that Ruan Yang might feel out of place here?
The more she thought about it, the more absurd her earlier concern seemed. Picking up a glass of wine, she turned and walked away.
“Are you all students from S University? Future big-shot directors, I bet…” A sweet-faced Omega actress, known for her charm, quickly took the empty seat beside Ruan Yang.
“If you ever have a project in the works, don’t forget about me~” She reached out to touch Ruan Yang’s face, but Ruan Yang intercepted her hand.
The moment Xu Zhiyi glanced back, Ruan Yang immediately set down her glass and shifted away, putting distance between herself and the Omega.
Without so much as a look at the girl, Ruan Yang stood and walked off in the opposite direction from Xu Zhiyi.
In a corner by the windowsill, Lu Yiye had appeared at some point and was smoking.
Ruan Yang approached her. “Why did you agree to come here for their celebration earlier?”
Lu Yiye flicked the ash from her cigarette and turned to face Ruan Yang.
The window was closed, and the sound of pattering rain came from outside, yet a gust of wind from nowhere lifted Ruan Yang’s long hair.
Lu Yiye’s gaze wavered for a fleeting moment, just a moment before quickly returning to normal.
“Wasn’t it you who wanted to come?” She chuckled softly. “Back then, you couldn’t take your eyes off Xu Zhiyi. What, have you changed your mind? Don’t hate her anymore? Planning to follow Fang Yao’s lead and become Xu Zhiyi’s fan?”
Ruan Yang remained silent.
A long pause stretched between them, lasting until the cigarette in Lu Yiye’s hand burned down to the filter. Only then did Ruan Yang finally speak, her voice slow and deliberate. “Is that not allowed?”
“It’s not that it’s not allowed.”
Lu Yiye tossed the cigarette butt into the trash and took one deliberate step after another toward Ruan Yang. “It’s not that it’s not allowed, Yangyang.”
“It’s Xu Zhiyi.”
No, not just Xu Zhiyi.
It’s that no Omega is worthy of you.
