Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 15
After the car drove away, Ruan Yang kept staring at the two figures in the rearview mirror.
She didn’t look away, as if stubbornly holding a grudge against someone.
A long time passed, and just as the car was finally about to leave the airport, she finally saw that figure turn back in the rearview mirror.
The scales of fate occasionally tipped slightly in her favor.
Ruan Yang pressed her lips together, her mood lifting considerably.
She took out her phone just as Lu Yiye’s call came through.
Ruan Yang answered quickly. Lu Yiye seemed to be in a bar, the music blaring loudly in the background.
The beat gradually faded, suggesting she had moved to a quieter corner. Her voice carried a note of disbelief: “Yangyang? I thought you didn’t like that Xu Zhiyi. Why did you suddenly ask me to help you get someone to post those things?”
While Lu Yiye was speaking, Ruan Yang went online to check the current public opinion about Zheng Tang.
She had asked an old classmate to dig up Zheng Tang’s past and sent the information to Lu Yiye before the evening gathering.
Lu Yiye’s family happened to own an entertainment company, so she quickly connected Ruan Yang with their PR team, exposing Zheng Tang’s past in a straightforward and direct manner.
Though Ruan Yang hadn’t explicitly stated who she was doing this for, most people in the industry could tell that exposing Zheng Tang at this moment was meant to help Xu Zhiyi.
Ruan Yang had only asked Lu Yiye’s company to release Zheng Tang’s romantic history, without requesting them to use the opportunity to clear Xu Zhiyi’s name.
She did this for two reasons: first, she didn’t want it to be too obvious, making netizens suspect that Xu Zhiyi was behind the whole thing; second, she was afraid Xu Zhiyi might trace the clues back to her.
Xu Zhiyi was proud, she would never accept Ruan Yang’s help so easily.
“Yangyang?” Not hearing a response, Lu Yiye asked again, her tone tinged with impatience. “Are you listening to me?”
Ruan Yang snapped out of her thoughts, her fingers brushing over the phone’s teru teru bozu charm.
“Yeah, I’m listening. I just really don’t like that Zheng Tang,” she explained.
“Really?” Lu Yiye still sounded skeptical. “But you didn’t even know who Zheng Tang was a few days ago…”
She paused, perhaps realizing it wasn’t worth dwelling on, and changed the subject.
After hesitating for a moment, Lu Yiye’s voice shifted from confusion to nervousness. “Yangyang, what are you up to at home? We’re on an island right now, do you want to come join us? If you come, we can wait a few extra days for you. It’s no problem.”
She emphasized the word “we,” but Ruan Yang, preoccupied with thoughts of Xu Zhiyi’s studio likely taking action soon, didn’t notice anything odd.
She considered her short film’s progress. “No, it’s fine, Yiye. I’m learning on a film set right now and probably don’t have time to go.”
“On a film set, huh?” Lu Yiye sounded disappointed. “Then it really would be hard to get away. Alright then, study hard. See you when school starts.”
Ruan Yang hummed in agreement and hung up.
After that, she returned to the hotel, reported to the director that she had safely escorted Xu Zhiyi to the airport, spent some time finalizing the cast for her short film, and then went to bed.
At the very second Ruan Yang fell asleep, Xu Zhiyi’s studio posted on Weibo.
This post would dominate the trending searches all night, pushing the rumors about Zheng Tang and Xu Zhiyi to new heights and firmly cementing Zheng Tang’s image as a heartless alpha in the minds of all netizens.
The post had no caption, only a few minutes of surveillance footage. The room in the footage was almost entirely white, but the decorations still made it clear it belonged to a girl.
A few seconds later, Zheng Tang walked in. The moment she entered, she began inspecting Xu Zhiyi’s room without restraint, casually touching the decorations and rummaging through the drawers as if she owned the place.
Soon after, Xu Zhiyi opened the door and entered as well. The moment Zheng Tang saw her, she rushed forward, trying to embrace her.
Xu Zhiyi raised a hand to stop her. Even through the surveillance footage, it was obvious her gaze had turned much colder.
She took a step back, and though her expression wasn’t great, she still tried to keep her tone gentle: “I only let you stay here for one night. I didn’t say you could treat this place like your own home.”
In the footage, Zheng Tang had her back to the camera. She reached out to touch Xu Zhiyi’s face.
“Zhiyi, you already let me into your room. Why are you still playing hard to get? I know what you mean, don’t worry, I really like you.”
Slap. Xu Zhiyi mercilessly swatted Zheng Tang’s hand away.
“What do I mean?” Xu Zhiyi raised an eyebrow. “It’s just that my house doesn’t have a guest room, so I let you sleep in my room for one night. Don’t overthink it.”
“And,” she walked over to the bed and sat down. Though she was looking up at Zheng Tang, her demeanor made it seem more like she was looking down on her, “what does it matter if you really like me? So many people like me does that mean I have to like you back just because you do?”
At this point, Zheng Tang turned around. The surveillance footage showed her expression had darkened, her brows furrowed. “What do you mean, no guest room? Xu Zhiyi, you already let me into your room, and now you’re saying these hard-to-get lines. Is this fun for you?”
“Wasn’t it you who insisted on coming to my room to take a look?” Xu Zhiyi smiled not a sharp smile, but one that made her seem almost docile. “Don’t twist my words.”
Zheng Tang froze for a moment, then inexplicably glanced out the window. Just one look, and when she turned back, it was as if she had made some monumental decision. She continued, “How am I twisting your words? Xu Zhiyi, don’t push your luck.”
As she spoke, Zheng Tang stepped forward, as if she was about to lay hands on her.
Xu Zhiyi remained seated, neither dodging nor avoiding her. Instead, she suddenly asked, “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Zheng Tang paused, hesitated for a second, and her gaze flickered away. “Why are you asking that?”
“Just curious,” Xu Zhiyi said lightly. “Other than work, I don’t like getting too close with people who are already in relationships.”
Zheng Tang lowered her head, as if she saw a glimmer of hope in Xu Zhiyi’s words.
When she raised her head again, she shook it firmly, then promptly scooted over to Xu Zhiyi’s side with an almost sycophantic eagerness: “No partner, Zhiyi, don’t worry, I don’t have a girlfriend. I’ve liked you for a long time now, you’re the one I—”
“If you don’t have a partner, then who bit your lower lip the other day?”
Zheng Tang was instantly speechless.
Xu Zhiyi let out another laugh as she stood up. In the surveillance footage, she placed a hand on Zheng Tang’s shoulder.
“Too scared to admit you have a partner, yet bold enough to lay hands on me.”
She leaned in, her red lips brushing Zheng Tang’s ear, whispering something that made Zheng Tang’s expression freeze in an instant.
With that, Xu Zhiyi straightened up and left the room, leaving Zheng Tang alone on the edge of the bed, her face twisted in utter dismay.
A few seconds later, the video ended, and the surveillance footage cut off.
The moment the studio released this clip, it was frantically reposted. While some questioned why Xu Zhiyi had surveillance in her own room, the vast majority of netizens who saw it had to admit, the revelations in this footage were explosive!
Late-night internet surfers were divided. Some raged at Zheng Tang for her lack of accountability not only rifling through someone else’s room but also being a presumptuous Alpha. Utterly disgusting.
Others rushed to defend Xu Zhiyi, arguing that she wasn’t the homewrecker Zheng Tang’s girlfriend had painted her to be. This was all just slander from Zheng Tang’s partner.
By the end of the debate, even this group turned on Zheng Tang.
Amid the backlash, someone suddenly voiced confusion: “Wait, what exactly did Zhiyi say at the end that made Zheng Tang look so horrified? Is there a royal translator here to decode it for me?!”
The final line had no audio, leaving viewers to guess based on the movement of Xu Zhiyi’s lips in the footage.
But nothing escapes the internet. Within seconds, someone deciphered it.
“I’ve got this! Xu Zhiyi said, ‘Zheng Tang, how dare you?’”
“Ahhh, that’s our Zhiyi! So freaking cool!”
“Exactly! Zheng Tang, how dare you taint such a goddess?!”
“Our Zhiyi is too good, even her comebacks are gentle QAQ”
“Stop missing the point, everyone. The real issue is Zheng Tang tried to force herself on Xu Zhiyi in the video. Thank goodness Zhiyi held her ground, imagine if it were someone else? Alpha physical advantage is no joke.”
The uproar quickly caught the attention of Xunguang Entertainment’s executives. Since the studio’s Weibo account was still under company control, Xunguang swiftly logged in and deleted the video.
But it was too late.
The clip had already been downloaded and reposted countless times. #ZhengTangHowDareYou topped the trending charts, with most of the remaining spots occupied by related tags.
Xunguang tried to suppress the hashtags but found, just like earlier that evening, it was impossible.
The entire company spent the night scrambling to contain the fallout from Zheng Tang’s scandal, overwhelmed by the chaos.
Meanwhile, the other protagonist of the incident, Xu Zhiyi, walked into the media spotlight outside the awards venue at the break of dawn, her face completely bare.
Her skin was in such impeccable condition that even the female stars who had taken the time to apply light makeup paled in comparison when standing beside her.
The moment Xu Zhiyi appeared, all the cameras immediately swiveled toward her.
Among the reporters present, one who loved stirring up drama, having seen the trending topic, asked, “Zhiyi, was it you who released that video? Were you and Zheng Tang really not in a relationship?”
Xu Zhiyi walked straight past him without so much as a glance.
The other reporters quickly grasped that she had no intention of addressing the matter and swiftly changed the subject. “Zhiyi, what are your thoughts on tonight’s Best Actress award? Do you feel confident about winning?”
Everyone assumed Xu Zhiyi wouldn’t respond, but surprisingly, it was this very question that made her pause.
Xu Zhiyi had a famously beautiful smile her laughing GIFs had once gone viral across the internet. Even now, in compilations of “celebrities whose smiles could kill with beauty,” Xu Zhiyi was always ranked first.
Yet today, this woman known for her heartwarming smiles wore an uncharacteristically strained expression before the cameras, one that seemed tinged with sorrow, resentment, a hint of anger, and even a trace of resignation.
Softly, she said, “No thoughts. I’m only here to offer my congratulations. See you all tonight.”
With that, Xu Zhiyi and her assistant swiftly entered the venue, leaving all the reporters to speculate.
She had known for a while now, Xunguang had spent money to buy out the Best Actress award that should have been hers.
And given it to Zheng Tang.
