- Chapter 15 - Friends
Seeing Qiao Bo’er approach, Qu Ye held up a parasol for her, and while opening the car door, he asked, “Boss, where to now?”
“Back to the company.”
“Understood.”
Suddenly thinking of something, Qiao Bo’er stopped her movement to get in the car and instructed, “After dropping me off at the company, go help me order a few boxes of chocolate, and I’m running low on ice cream cones. Don’t get the brand or flavor wrong, and have them sent to the Yu Jing Li Cheng apartment.”
“Understood, what brand of chocolate do you need, and roughly how many?”
“Order Debauve & Gallais, it must be in the small tin packaging, order ten boxes for now.”
During the conversation, Qu Ye sensed a rare joy in Qiao Bo’er. After all, the joke about eating chocolate turning one into a happy ghost was her own creation; although it was a cheesy joke, everyone was very familiar with it.
It seemed Xuanyi University was a good place, so Qu Ye smiled and replied, “Understood, I’ll take care of it as soon as possible.”
As soon as Qiao Bo’er stepped out of the elevator, she smelled a strong, intoxicating, yet all-too-familiar perfume, and she raised her hand to her nose, frowning slightly.
“Where have you been goofing off? You’re only getting back to the company in the afternoon.”
The person was heard before she was seen.
Qin Yun, holding a cup of coffee that Chu Xi had just brewed, was standing at the door of Qiao Bo’er’s office, about to enter. When she spotted Qiao Bo’er, she stopped.
The tone of complaint actually sounded light and relaxed.
Qiao Bo’er didn’t respond, she just walked straight past her, pushed the door open, went to her desk, picked up a document and scanned it for a few seconds, still showing no inclination to talk.
“Miss Qiao, when will you ever learn to greet me politely?” Qin Yun had long been accustomed to her temper, so she wasn’t angry, she just set down the cup and continued to complain.
Qiao Bo’er gave her a cold look, leaned back in her boss chair, and tossed the folder onto the desk: “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I’m a member of the Jiatai Group’s board of directors, and I suddenly remembered that I have a heartless, emotionless good girlfriend. So I decided to come over and take a look, but I almost missed you.”
Qin Yun was a sexy and glamorous beauty. Although not a foreigner, she had the bone structure and features of one. Therefore, heavy makeup did not look overly exaggerated or jarring on her face.
With an hourglass figure and a swaying, serpentine waist, she gave everyone the impression of a seductive enchantress no matter what she wore.
Of course, while she was charming, she was also a woman who left her mark everywhere she went.
Qiao Bo’er was amused by her description, dropping her cold facade and teasing mercilessly, “You’re constantly spending time with men and neglecting the company. If you ran off with someone one day, I wouldn’t be surprised. Just be honest, what are you really here for?”
Asked about her intention again, Qin Yun leaned against the desk, unable to contain her curiosity and gossip: “I heard your precious glasses were crushed and you even got slapped. This kind of gossip will spoil if I don’t catch up on it quickly…”
Qin Yun loved collecting Qiao Bo’er’s few embarrassing moments to talk about as jokes; such opportunities were rare.
The news of being slapped by a “stinky salted fish” had actually gotten out. Qiao Bo’er’s face instantly darkened: “Who told you?”
“Don’t worry about who leaked it, I just want to ask, how did it feel to be slapped in the face?”
“How about I slap you, and you experience it for yourself?”
“Alright, alright, I’m not messing with you anymore. Let’s have dinner together tonight, and then go have a drink at my new bar?”
Although Qiao Bo’er disliked socializing, a casual drink for relaxation was a good suggestion in her spare time, so she readily accepted Qin Yun’s invitation: “Sure, it’s been a long time since I went to a bar. It’s good to relax, but…”
Suddenly realizing something, Qiao Bo’er looked at Qin Yun with a playful look: “A new bar? Everyone knows you, Miss Qin, have too much money and are fickle, but you wouldn’t open a bar just to indulge in male companionship, would you?”
“What are you saying? Opening a bar is a legitimate business. It’s not for those annoying men. Having one more entertainment venue run by our own people is better and safer than those shady places outside.”
Qin Yun was famously generous in Xuancheng’s wealthy circles. She could lavish large sums of money on a handsome young man she fancied for a night of pleasure, and she was equally generous to her closest friend, Qiao Bo’er.
Handing a refined black VIP card for the bar to Qiao Bo’er, Qin Yun narrowed her captivating, fox-like eyes: “You’re always welcome, Boss Qiao. Your tab is on me…”
Qiao Bo’er picked up the black card, glanced at it casually, and mocked with a smile: “Charm Capital Bar… The bar name is quite fitting for your vulgar charm.”
“Don’t make personal attacks. Don’t be so shallow. You’ll see how much fun it is tonight.”
Qiao Bo’er picked up the folder again, trying to get rid of the incessantly chattering Qin Yun: “Sit down for a while. I need to deal with a few urgent documents.”
“Fine, you go ahead and work. I’m going to go harass little Chu Xi.” With that, Qin Yun sashayed out of the office with her serpentine waist.
Chu Xi’s office was right next to Qiao Bo’er’s. It was quite large, and its specifications and configuration were already at the level of a group vice president.
Of course, her status as second-in-command, coupled with her meticulous and rigorous work and excellent decision-making ability, meant that Qiao Bo’er’s favor was entirely earned through merit.
“Little Chu Xi, what are you doing?” Qin Yun slipped from one office into the next, like a midnight phantom.
Chu Xi was concentrating on handling Qiao Bo’er’s schedule, but the moment she heard that voice, which made her scalp tingle, she felt uncomfortable. However, the person was also her ‘small boss’, so she could only endure the ‘magic attack’.
Her response was icy: “I’m busy.”
“Don’t be busy, come play with big sister for a while.” Qin Yun’s words always had an 18+ undertone, and Chu Xi frowned involuntarily, sensing the unpleasant atmosphere.
“Sorry, I’m busy with the boss’s affairs, I’m afraid I can’t keep you company.”
“You can…” Qin Yun pulled a visitor’s chair next to Chu Xi and tilted her head, leaning directly on her shoulder: “Didn’t I just accompany you? You can continue working.”
Chu Xi, like most high-level secretaries, always exuded an aloof, ‘do not approach’ asceticism.
Having known her for over ten years, Qin Yun had always been her Achilles’ heel.
Chu Xi couldn’t understand why this walking heartbreaker, who clearly had a steady stream of young men outside, stuck to her like glue every time they met.
“This is the company, isn’t it inappropriate for you, General Manager Qin, to be this close to me?” Chu Xi subtly shifted her shoulder, trying to create distance between them.
Qin Yun tried to loop her arm through Chu Xi’s, but finding her right hand occupied with the mouse, she simply dragged her chair to the other side.
Ignoring Chu Xi’s subtle refusal, she wrapped her arm around Chu Xi’s left arm: “This way, I won’t hinder you.”
With Qin Yun constantly adapting, Chu Xi was at a loss. She sighed softly and continued with the task at hand.
Staring and admiring Chu Xi’s clear, cold profile, Qin Yun occasionally let out a few sighs, disturbing Chu Xi so much that she couldn’t concentrate on her work.
Finally giving in, Chu Xi looked at the enchantress beside her and asked helplessly, “General Manager Qin, did I offend you inadvertently at some point?”
Chu Xi’s question was so odd it momentarily stumped Qin Yun. She thought about it, then shook her head: “No, little Chu Xi has never made a mistake in her work, so how could she make a low-level error that offends a superior?”
“Then, if I may ask again, why do you always cling to me every time we meet?”
“Because you’re fun… Hey! I was just looking at your face and I noticed you’ve changed as you’ve grown up.”
Mentioning growing up, Chu Xi pursed her lips and remained silent, trying to avoid the topic.
Qin Yun stood up on an impulse, pulling Chu Xi up too: “Take off your high heels.”
“Why take off my shoes?”
“I’m taking mine off too, hurry up.” Qin Yun kicked off her designer high heels and continued to urge her.
Unable to resist her whims, Chu Xi took off her shoes: “And then?”
“Stand up straight, let me see.”
Qin Yun casually grabbed an empty folder and placed it on top of her own head, measuring their heights.
She then realized that Chu Xi’s bare height was nearly half a head taller than hers. She huffed a little in frustration: “How did you shoot up so tall? What has Bo’er been feeding you!?”
“General Manager Qin, I’m just developing normally.” Seeing Qin Yun’s unconvinced complaint, Chu Xi felt this woman was incredibly childish.
Qin Yun suddenly put her hands behind her back and played the role of a delicate, dependent girl, leaning in close to Chu Xi and looking up at her with a tease: “This height is perfect for a couple… You’ve grown up after all…”
Chu Xi lowered her eyes and looked at Qin Yun’s face, remaining expressionless.
She thought her feigned coldness wouldn’t be seen through, but she forgot that the Qin Yun pressed close to her could feel the erratic beat of her heart.
“Chu Xi, have the project department…” Qiao Bo’er walked into the office with a document, but stopped mid-sentence as she saw the two of them standing intimately, barefoot, staring deeply at each other.
“Ahem…” Qiao Bo’er cleared her throat, breaking the ambiguous atmosphere. She walked to the desk, put down the document, and instructed: “Have the project department follow up on this. We’ll have a meeting to discuss the details on Wednesday afternoon.”
Hearing this, Chu Xi’s face flushed crimson, and she backed away in a hurry, looking for her high heels on the floor. She was rarely seen so flustered: “Understood, I’ll take care of it immediately.”
Qin Yun turned around and gave Qiao Bo’er an annoyed look, her eyes filled with resentment.
She really came at the wrong time, what a mood killer!
