- Chapter 11 - Class Scheduling
It was the time for morning classes, and the office was empty. Ling Xi, with no students choosing her course, felt like an orphan abandoned by the world.
She sat in her chair, scratching her head, completely perplexed.
While she had to admit Qiao Bo’er was beautiful and wealthy, she never thought she could be so powerful. How did she suddenly become the darling of the school’s leadership?
Annoyed, she ruffled her hair, feeling that the situation was not as simple as she thought. Should she just listen to Xiao Mo and apologize to soften the stance?
No way! Trees have bark, and humans have faces! Apologizing is impossible, absolutely impossible!
Ling Xi twisted in her chair anxiously like a maggot.
Suddenly, Director Chen’s voice came from the doorway, “Ling Xi, come to my office.”
“Oh, coming.”
Ling Xi smoothed her messy hair and slyly followed behind Director Chen.
Unusually, she shed her usual laziness and became active and talkative: “Director Chen, what is that boss the leaders were accompanying here for today?”
Chen Junqing clasped his hands behind his back, putting on a serious facade, glancing back at Ling Xi. But he quickly broke into a smug, hearty laugh: “That President Qiao is the big boss of Jiateng Group. She specifically requested our Principal Wang to take your Paleography class. Principal Wang just asked me to arrange it… Come in and sit, I need to discuss this with you slowly.”
Saying that, Director Chen pushed open his office door and walked in.
As soon as Ling Xi heard that she really had to teach Qiao Bo’er, her entire being shattered.
“Come in, what are you standing dumbstruck at the door for?” Director Chen impatiently urged, and Ling Xi could only brace herself and sit in the visitor’s chair: “Can I refuse?”
“Then can you instantly donate fifty million to the school and also provide manpower and resources to repair the campus?” Director Chen countered with a question that hit Ling Xi so hard she clutched her chest, wanting to vomit blood.
Fifty million!? Okay, Qiao Bo’er, you’re investing heavily just to mess with me!
Ling Xi helplessly pursed her lips, her confidence utterly deflated: “I didn’t say anything.”
Director Chen ignored her and busied himself typing on the keyboard. Soon after, he printed out the new class schedule and handed it to Ling Xi, issuing a direct ultimatum: “This is the class schedule for Paleography this semester, with only President Qiao as the student. Ling Xi, I’m warning you, she is an important opportunity for the school’s future development and cooperation. If you dare to offend her at this critical juncture, not even a god descending to earth can save you.”
Ling Xi held the schedule and looked at it again and again. Finally, her nose tingled, and she cried!
She cried bitterly in front of Director Chen, as if someone had peeled off a layer of her skin. She cried more and more miserably, eventually turning into heartbroken sobbing.
Oh dear! Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 8:30 a.m., goodbye to sleeping in. Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m., goodbye to afternoon naps.
What university major has classes scheduled this packed, five days a week? Even the God of Literature would shake his head!
The lazy spirit deep within Ling Xi’s soul began to clamor in protest.
Director Chen didn’t indulge her, directly tossing a pack of tissues and adding insult to injury: “What do you mean by crying? Crying is useless! Even Principal Wang has to treat her with respect. Just cry a bit more, finish your cry, and get to work.”
“Wuwuwu… Scheduling the classes this full, even four years of knowledge packed into one semester wouldn’t be this much, wuwuwu… What am I supposed to teach later on? Wuwuwu…”
Ling Xi pitifully wiped her tears. She looked so wronged, all she lacked was a kind soul to pat her head and comfort her.
“Knock, knock, knock…”
The sound of high heels accompanied the knock on the door. Ling Xi, with tears streaming down her face, sniffled and turned her head towards the sound.
Qiao Bo’er stood tall and straight at the doorway. Her platinum blonde hair reflected the summer light, making her unbelievably beautiful.
The moment their eyes met, time paused for them.
Qiao Bo’er slightly pursed her lips, looking at Ling Xi, who was tear-stained, messy, and occasionally twitching from sobbing. Her eyes instantly revealed the triumphant look of a victor.
That relaxed and arrogant expression immediately infuriated Ling Xi.
Director Chen practically sprang to his feet, enthusiastically greeting her: “President Qiao, you’re here so quickly! Please come in, please come in.”
Ah! Damn it! Why did this woman have to see her in such a state of embarrassment? How humiliating!
Ling Xi could feel goosebumps all over her body.
She quickly turned back, haphazardly wiping away the traces of her ‘river of sorrow’ on her cheeks, and stubbornly hunched her back, refusing to face Qiao Bo’er’s mocking gaze.
“I have no work arrangements today, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to confirm the class schedule. After all, I really like Vice Professor Ling’s Paleography.”
Qiao Bo’er’s reply was impeccable. The sound of her high heels grew closer.
Finally, she stopped next to Ling Xi, adopting a seemingly approachable posture, and gently rested a hand on Ling Xi’s shoulder.
Director Chen didn’t dare to neglect her and was busy preparing hot tea for the guest.
Taking advantage of the moment he wasn’t paying attention, Qiao Bo’er slightly bent down and whispered in Ling Xi’s ear: “I just wanted to tease the little lazy cat, why is the little lazy cat crying? Can’t handle a little rough play?”
Ling Xi clenched her fists, wishing she could grind her back molars to dust.
But as soon as she turned her head, the intoxicating scent of orange blossom that made her lose herself started wreaking havoc again, draining her battle strength in a second.
Director Chen brought a chair and placed it in front of Qiao Bo’er: “President Qiao, please have a seat. I just printed the class schedule; the times are set according to your requirements. If you have any other requests for the course, please feel free to bring them up directly with Vice Professor Ling, don’t be shy.”
Ling Xi had stabilized her emotions and accepted the fact that she was on Qiao Bo’er’s pirate ship; she resigned herself to it.
Reluctantly and half-heartedly, she handed the class schedule to Qiao Bo’er: “Here…”
Qiao Bo’er made no move to take it, merely glancing at the time on her wristwatch: “I have no other requirements. Having a large group of school leaders and company people trailing along just now made the campus tour uncomfortable and not relaxing. If Vice Professor Ling has time, why don’t you accompany me to continue the tour? Xuan Yi University is quite large.”
“Yes, yes, yes, our school occupies half the university town’s land. If you were to truly tour it, including eating and drinking, it would take at least a day. Vice Professor Ling has plenty of time anyway, I’ll have her accompany you for a good tour.”
Hmph, Chen Junqing, you’re seriously the worst helper ever!
Ling Xi’s face went from pale to gloomy, but in the end, she had to force out an awkward smile to comply: “Fine! I’ll accompany (spit)!”
“Then that’s settled. We won’t disturb Director Chen any longer.”
Qiao Bo’er’s tone remained unhurried. But a sensitive person could detect a deeply hidden pleasure in it.
Leaving the office building.
Ling Xi walked in front to lead the way, but no matter how quickly Qiao Bo’er followed, a meter of distance was always maintained between them.
Qiao Bo’er was wearing thin-heeled high heels. Even with her natural and light steps, she couldn’t keep up with the relentless pace. Holding her designer bag, she complained: “Walking so fast, are you rushing to reincarnate?”
Ling Xi impatiently turned and glared at her, speaking sharply: “I can show you around the campus, but please keep a one-meter safety distance from me. You’re a malicious succubus with a criminal record, I have every reason to be vigilant.”
Qiao Bo’er folded her arms, watching Ling Xi’s face turn red with anger, and deliberately clicked her tongue: “What, afraid I’ll kiss you again? Don’t worry, this is a school, I know the limits.”
“If you dare mention that again, I will…” Ling Xi became furious at the sight of Qiao Bo’er’s sexy red lips clicking. If she were to threaten her, she lacked force and only gave Qiao Bo’er a chance to corner her.
Qiao Bo’er was half a head taller than Ling Xi. With one long stride forward, she stood right in front of her, using a provocative tactic: “You will what to me?”
The woman intentionally clasped her hands behind her back, leaning forward until she was almost touching Ling Xi. Tilting her head, she scrutinized Ling Xi’s face and continued to lightly tease: “Honestly, when I saw you at the studio that day, I thought you were particularly like a cat. What girl would hate a timid yet cute little kitten?
What do you taste like? I want to try… might as well just go for it and try…
Wanting to kiss you is true, and wanting to play with you is also true, but comparatively, watching you cry seems more interesting.”
Ling Xi’s brows furrowed into a deep frown. How could this woman say such cold and shameless things with a 37-degree mouth, and what was more terrifying was that she wasn’t even blushing or flustered.
Ling Xi believed the root of Qiao Bo’er’s persistent harassment was the breakdown in compensation talks. She finally compromised, pulled out white cotton gloves from her handbag to put on, and then took out a delicate small wooden box.
Opening the lid, the box contained Qiao Bo’er’s crushed antique European handheld spectacles.
Ling Xi sincerely made a promise to the heavens: “The studio won’t run away, what’s the use of you making things difficult for me? 3.5 million for compensation is too much, even insurance valuation wouldn’t appraise it that high.
How about this, I’ll go back and discuss it with my business partner and compensate you 1.5 million. How does that sound? Additionally, I’ll figure out a way to help you restore these spectacles. That’s the only win-win solution I can think of.
Besides, you were the one who harassed me first, that’s why I slapped you!
It was wrong of me to hit you, and I apologize. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I beg you, can you please let me off the hook?”
Seeing Ling Xi’s serious expression, Qiao Bo’er lost all interest in teasing her. Her easy and relaxed look completely vanished, and she stepped back, her tone turning ice-cold: “You think I’m making things difficult for you because of these spectacles? I can spend fifty million to play with you, do you think I care about your 1.5 million?
Hmph, I accept your plan to restore the spectacles, but the matter of wanting to ruin you is not going to change. The game has just begun, don’t be such a spoilsport.
Forget it, having a useless person like you accompany me on a campus tour will only annoy me more. Go do whatever you need to do, don’t be an eyesore.”
Ling Xi watched Qiao Bo’er walk towards the parking lot without looking back, stunned.
She had given a proper apology, so why did the other person get angry instead!
They say women are moody, but this crazy woman could cycle through all four seasons in a second. Who could withstand such a temper?
