After Turning Into a Kitten, I Was Adopted by My Father-Figure Childhood Friend - Chapter 20
“Youyou.”
The crisp sound of a bell shattered the flash of inspiration in Song Xingyou’s mind. Those thoughts scattered like a gust of wind, flying far away.
The man, who had just left and returned, held a cat teaser toy in his hand. A small bell hung beneath red and green feathers, swaying back and forth in the air. Song the cat’s pupils tightened. His amber-gold eyes instantly narrowed into vertical slits, twitching unconsciously.
In the next second, Song the cat let out a loud cry and pounced.
The fiery red feathers slipped nimbly through his claws. Song’s ears twitched as he aggressively lowered his hindquarters, pressing his entire body against the floor like a tiger stalking its prey. With one leap, he struck the red feathers down.
He pinned the feathers down with ease while tossing his head back. A mouthful of feathers flew into the air as the kitten tumbled onto the floor. The little calico lay belly-up, his powerful hind legs kicking and thumping repeatedly while he emitted low, muffled growls.
Ha! Die quickly!
Lu Jingchuan knelt beside him, gently stroking the kitten’s head and pressing the two twitching, pointed ears to the sides. The furry cheeks rubbed constantly against his palms and the backs of his hands. He reached out to scratch the kitten’s cream-white chin, pampering Song the cat until he was utterly dazed and infatuated.
Under the dual influence of the toy and the grooming, Song’s mind was in a whirl. He failed to notice Lu Jingchuan’s thoughtful gaze directed toward the window.
The black cat, Xiao Bai, who had been snacking on cat food, suddenly felt as though it were being watched by a monster. Its fur stood on end. It lifted its head warily, ears folding back into “airplane ears.” After a three-second standoff with Lu Jingchuan, it tucked its tail between its legs and fled in terror.
“Meow meow meow!” Xiao Mi, I will come find you to play next time!
“Woo woo woo!” Hey, ha! Take this!
The two cats meowed and chirped at each other, but they were clearly not on the same wavelength.
Lu Jingchuan shook the toy to capture the kitten’s attention while skillfully blocking the view of the black cat making its escape.
It ran out again. Lu Jingchuan contemplated whether he should remind the cat’s owner once more.
“Youyou, you cannot just make friends with anyone, understand?” He meant the large cats that might lead a small kitten astray or bully it.
The man’s voice was deep. His ambiguous words were muffled as his fingers playfully rummaged through the kitten’s ears. “If you want to make friends, I will take you to find some good-tempered kittens to play with tomorrow.”
“Meow?” Song Xingyou had been kicking the toy for a long time. He blinked in confusion and shook his head to stop the man from touching him.
He seemed to be grasping at a thought, but when the man’s finger rubbed firmly against his cheek, he bared two sharp teeth and took a bite of the man’s hand. He used the hand as a toy, kicking it twice before grunting to signal that he would let the man off for now.
There is no need to find other kittens to play with!
This kitty is now a member of the House Cat Gang!
Song the cat lifted his head, meowing and chirping to show off to the man. His white chest was squeezed between his two front legs, creating a soft indentation. He looked as soft as a comforting plush doll stuffed with cotton.
Lu Jingchuan rubbed the kitten’s belly. The wonderful, soft sensation felt like holding a sweet, misty cloud. This was a cute kitten that would be bullied by big cats if it were not properly protected.
“He will definitely like you,” Lu Jingchuan whispered. When he mentioned “he,” his usually indifferent face softened like melting ice. His gloomy features relaxed, revealing a hint of a smile.
Xingxing would surely like it.
Thinking of Song Xingxing, Lu Jingchuan’s expression became incredibly tender, which made Song the cat very unhappy. He unconsciously bit his paw, cursing inwardly with resentment. Damn it, I knew it! Lu Jingchuan is a fickle, two-timing scumbag and a bastard!
His sweet words mean nothing. Just because he is handsome, he thinks he can like this person and that person. Sooner or later, he will just leave.
Fortunately, he was smart. He had discovered Lu Jingchuan’s true nature long ago. Ha! Anyone could be fooled, but not him.
The more Song the cat thought about it, the more smug—and the more angry—he became. He could not resist swinging his paw and striking Lu Jingchuan squarely in the face.
“Meow!” Bastard!
The little calico ran immediately after the hit, cocking his tail and trotting away across the floor.
Lu Jingchuan gave chase. “Youyou, it is time to trim your nails.”
Song the cat was shocked. “Meow meow meow!” You bastard!
Being forcibly restrained and losing his sharp claws made Song Xingyou feel as though he had lost his dreams. He lay on the sofa in disbelief, opening his paws countless times to check his transparent claws. Even the edges had been carefully polished until they were rounded.
Song Xingyou retracted them gloomily. He lifted a hind leg and stretched his claws. The pink paw pads slowly bloomed, revealing the now-harmless claws.
Everything had been trimmed clean.
He immediately wore a sour face, rubbing his chin and narrowing his eyes with a deeply displeased expression. A cat’s revenge is never too late, even if it takes ten years!
Song Xingyou decided he would not sleep with that bastard Lu tonight. He pushed and dragged his cat bed, aggressively flinging it toward the window. He jumped inside, curled into a ball, and angrily pointed his round backside at the man.
Lu Jingchuan, watching the kitten throw a tantrum, tried to pat its head. The kitten’s ears, acting like radar, reacted instantly. He turned his head and bit the man’s hand.
“You do not want to sleep on the bed?”
“Meow!”
“You want to sleep here?”
“Meow meow!”
Lu Jingchuan nodded quickly without objection. “Fine, I will respect your wishes.”
Everyone has their own will and thoughts, including kittens. Lu Jingchuan did not force him. He went to get the small blanket the kitten used.
When he stood up, Song Xingyou’s eyes widened. He watched in disbelief as the man walked further and further away.
That damn bastard Lu! You were not like this before! You are not even going to coax me!
His amber-gold eyes were wide as he watched Lu Jingchuan return and drape the pretty blanket over him.
Song Xingyou was furious. “Meow meow meow!”
Hateful Lu Jingchuan!
In the past, Lu would beg to sleep with him. During afternoon naps, Lu would squeeze into the same bed and insist on hugging his waist.
Fine, fine. I want to see what is so precious about your bed.
There was nowhere in this house that he could not sleep!
Song Xingyou stood tall with the air of a little ancestor. He kicked the blanket aside, jumped onto the bed, shoved Lu Jingchuan’s pillow away, and sprawled out with his limbs wide. If Lu Jingchuan dared to get on the bed, he would bite him. On a 2.2-meter bed, he managed to occupy 1.8 meters all by himself.
Ever since Youyou arrived in this home, Lu’s status in the household had plummeted.
Lu Jingchuan surrendered. He had a premonition that his future status would be lower than the dog at Xingxing’s house. That wealthy Pekingese was a treasure that Aunt Song held in her arms every day.
Lu Jingchuan placed his hands neatly over his stomach and closed his eyes, imagining Xingxing holding that Pekingese. The dog had been adopted after he went abroad. Aunt Song often posted photos on her social media. Lu Jingchuan checked them every day, yet he never saw Xingxing in them.
Perhaps Xingxing did not like that dog. Xingxing liked cats, and also raccoons.
The raccoons that rummaged through the trash cans beneath the student building were annoying because they scattered trash everywhere. However, Xingxing liked them. Every time Xingxing posted a photo, Lu would reply. Lu even fed them bread because he loved what Xingxing loved. Unfortunately, those foreign raccoons did not eat the bread.
The Song family was right; it was a good thing Xingxing did not go abroad with him. Lu Jingchuan’s thoughts were interrupted by a heavy kick.
He opened his eyes helplessly. The sprawling kitten had somehow rolled over to his pillow. A small paw was firmly planted on his face.
“Alright, Youyou.”
In the darkness, the man’s voice was helpless. His soft sigh was filled with tender, unyielding indulgence.
Saturday was the scheduled family dinner for the Lu family. As the Executive Director of the Shengda Group and a high-tech automotive chip researcher respectively, Mr. Lu and Ms. Qi had busy and significant jobs. Almost every decision they made could affect tens of thousands of people. However, the Lu family had a strict rule: everyone must arrive on time for the Saturday dinner. Anyone unable to attend had to submit a valid application and receive approval from the family members.
Fortunately, technology was advanced now. For the past few years, Lu Jingchuan had joined the dinner via video call. He did not need to write a formal application explaining why he could not be there. He only had to frequently explain to his parents why his breakfast always consisted of dry bread. Were they worried he was mistreating himself?
This time, that would not be necessary.
After waking up, Youyou the kitten had already forgotten he was angry. He stood on the bed. Lu Jingchuan took out a sapphire blue bowtie. The kitten gave a serious meow, so Lu Jingchuan picked up a checkered tie instead.
Only when the little calico nodded in satisfaction did Lu Jingchuan tie the chosen wine-red tie around his neck. The crimson color contrasted with his cold, ascetic features, highlighting a hidden intensity. He looked down to adjust it. As his long fingers moved through the deep colors, Song Xingyou suddenly remembered how Lu used to slowly wrap a black leash around his hand.
It was very repressed yet very attractive.
Song Xingyou’s nose suddenly itched. He lifted a paw to scratch his ear, his eyes sparkling as he watched the man fasten shirt stays and sock garters to his sturdy thighs.
Oh! This looks really good!
Song the cat pushed a formal vest toward him.
Lu Jingchuan said, “I am just going home, Youyou.”
Furthermore, before going home, he planned to take the kitten to a certain place. Lu Jingchuan realized once again that his future status in this house was inferior to a smart kitten.
Xingxing was greater than the kitten, and the kitten was greater than him.
Lu Jingchuan remained expressionless as he swapped the vest and suit for a solid-colored sweater. He tucked his shirt into his trousers and put on a trench coat.
“Let’s go, Youyou.” Lu Jingchuan reached out to catch the kitten as it jumped into his arms. The kitten snuggled in, its excited voice sounding incredibly sweet. “Meow meow meow!”
What kind of delicious cat meal will Uncle Lu prepare to entertain me?
His pointed ears twitched with excitement. Song Xingyou fell into a fantasy, thinking of sweet strawberries the size of fists, delicious deep-sea lobsters, or perhaps some plain-looking but exceptionally tasty local specialties. He climbed onto the car window, trying his best to stand on his tiptoes to count how long it would take to reach the Lu residence.
However, he noticed the road becoming increasingly unfamiliar yet familiar. It was unfamiliar because this path was the exact opposite of the way to the Lu house. It was familiar because Song Xingyou often took this road to a cat cafe to hang out with other cats.
The understated luxury car stopped in front of a building that housed a cat cafe. Lu Jingchuan turned off the engine and unbuckled his seatbelt. “We are here, Youyou.”
A cat cafe employee, who had been waiting for a long time, stepped forward. On her face was a familiar, “cat-addicted” smile. “Oh, dear guest, is it this kitten?”
Lu Jingchuan replied, “Yes.”
Song Xingyou was horrified. He lunged into Lu Jingchuan’s arms, his claws gripping the man’s collar tightly.
“Meow meow meow?!” You are actually going to sell me!
