After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 59
Chapter 59
The next day, Jin Chaoyan received news from Sawada Tsuna and the others that they had completed the seven Arcobaleno trials and obtained enough seals to open the Vongola Boxes. She knew this unexpected journey to ten years ago was coming to an end.
Before leaving, she made a special trip to find Yamamoto Takeshi to ask if his sushi shop, Take-Sushi, was hiring part-time staff. Upon learning she wanted the Jin Chaoyan of ten years ago to do a work-study program there, the school heartthrob agreed without hesitation:
“No problem! Leave it to me, I’ll handle my old man!”
Jin Chaoyan was about to thank him when she noticed he looked like he had just breathed a huge sigh of relief. “It’s great to be able to help you. After everything with my dad in the future world, I’ve been thinking about how to pay you back for that huge favor. Anyway, don’t worry, you don’t have to stress about this anymore!”
“…I wouldn’t put it that way. What happened in the future was just an accidental action by me and my sister. It can’t really be counted as a life-saving debt—”
“It’s fine. How about this: if I encounter something I need help with in the future world, I’ll come ask you too. So, Chaoyan, don’t be polite anymore.”
Jin Chaoyan knew he was just saying that to put her mind at ease. After all, these young Guardians were only staying in the future briefly; once Byakuran was defeated, their paths might not cross again. What could she possibly help him with?
But hearing him say that, she couldn’t continue being formal. As she walked away, she thought: Yamamoto Takeshi really is the most normal person among these Vongola Guardians with their distinct personalities!
Up until the day before her departure, Jin Chaoyan never did see anyone from the Jin family arrive.
But she didn’t have enough time left. She couldn’t personally go to their door to sever ties on behalf of the original host and protect her from their violent threats. Moreover, she didn’t know if the original host still held a sliver of hope for family affection, so she prepared two sets of solutions.
Regardless of whether the original host decided to distance herself from her family, at the very least, Jin Chaoyan had already left a deep enough impression on the bullies at school. She had also reorganized a set of study notes, formulated a study plan, and left behind that [SS-3 Breath of Archangel] card that could heal any illness.
She wrote the instructions and the card’s effects in a letter explaining the entire situation. Simultaneously, she entrusted the reliable Tetsuya Kusakabe to keep an eye out and ensure the letter was opened and read by the original host personally. Once the heart disease was cured, if the girl chose to return to the Jin family, her future would be beyond Chaoyan’s reach.
But if she wanted to break free from that family, the contact info for Yamamoto’s shop, the rental information, and the six million yen backup fund (prepared at a standard interest rate) would all come in handy.
“What are you thinking about?”
At the Namimori back mountain, in front of the shrine.
As dawn broke, she and Hibari arrived at the location where the Ten-Year Bazooka had been placed. Noticing her daze, the boy beside her turned his head slightly and asked casually.
Jin Chaoyan finished reviewing everything she had done for the original host in her mind. Snapping back to reality, she met his clear phoenix eyes and shook her head. “Thinking about whether I left any loopholes in what I did… but it can’t be helped, time’s up. By the way, how do you use this bazooka?”
High-tech weapons like this were usually quite precise; she was worried she might cause an accident with improper use.
The youth standing nearby glanced toward the ground. “There’s a note on the floor.”
Jin Chaoyan picked it up, studied it, and placed it back. She tried tossing the bazooka slightly. Seeing the muzzle descending toward her, she controlled her urge to dodge. Her vision went black as the sensation of time travel enveloped her.
The environment changed from the Namimori back mountain to an exquisite, familiar Japanese-style bedroom.
Chinari was in the middle of pushing the door open, looking quite surprised at the pink smoke emerging around her. “Madam?”
She was back!
Jin Chaoyan breathed a sigh of relief. From the window sill came a soft, thin call: “Chaoyan~ Chaoyan~”
“Waaah, it’s Mama’s Hibird!” She instinctively tucked the weapon she’d kept by her futon into her waistband and took a few steps toward the window. She scooped up the well-behaved little bird that wasn’t afraid of her, rubbing her cheek against it affectionately. Feeling like she had truly come back to life, she asked Chinari:
“Great, Chinari. What time is it now?”
After hearing the time, Jin Chaoyan realized not much time had passed since she had originally woken up. Preparing to take Hibird out for breakfast, she remembered she had left so abruptly earlier that she hadn’t even said a word to the Chairman.
She changed her mind and had Chinari prepare a Japanese-style breakfast to pack to-go. After the Hibari of this timeline arrived, he would likely be staying at Namimori Middle School, just like last time.
“Certainly, Madam.”
Before leaving, Chinari couldn’t help but ask, “But, Madam, are you feeling nostalgic for your school days? That uniform fits you quite well.”
“!”
Suddenly reminded, Jin Chaoyan looked down at her school uniform. Her hand not holding Hibird waved frantically. “No, no, no! It was just an accident. I almost forgot if you hadn’t mentioned it. This uniform’s fabric is actually quite comfortable, but it’s not as pretty as my own clothes!”
The bags, the jewelry, and her new brand-name arrivals! She could dote on them again!
Forty minutes later.
Jin Chaoyan stepped out with Hibird—who was wearing a small pearl necklace and tiny sunglasses on its head—perched on her shoulder. Holding a beautiful parasol, she walked toward the Namimori Middle School of ten years later.
Chinari followed behind her. Seeing that she was crying sadly when she returned yesterday but had regained her good mood after just one sleep—and had even decided to look for the young Mr. Hibari again—she felt like she had missed something.
But she didn’t look into it; as long as Jin Chaoyan was in a good mood, that was enough.
Upon arrival, Jin Chaoyan greeted both Kusakabe and Romario. Seeing her return so early in the morning, Kusakabe was somewhat surprised. However, noticing Dino and Hibari already starting their special training, he mentioned another matter after greeting her:
“Madam, latest news. Just now, when Kyo-san and the others returned to the future world, Byakuran sent a challenge. They agreed to hold a battle called ‘Choice’ ten days from now to settle the score with Vongola.”
“Hmm?”
Jin Chaoyan had Chinari hand over the breakfast. Hearing “Choice,” she vaguely remembered it and nodded. “Okay, I understand.”
Her gaze then turned to the youth sparring with Dino. His speed and movements were exceptionally sharp. “By the way, does he plan to keep wearing the Namimori uniform here? Should we buy him some other clothes?”
Since she had spent his money in the past world, Jin Chaoyan was now eager to repay the fifteen-year-old Hibari, even going as far as to pull out her black card.
Before Kusakabe could reply, Dino quickly pulled away over there, flicking his whip which was enveloped in the soft Sky flames. “Let’s take a halftime break, Kyoya. Your future wife sent a ‘breakfast of love’; you should at least show some respect, right?”
To his surprise, the boy—whom he expected to be immersed in battle and ignore the gesture—paused after his tonfa strike missed. He then turned around without a word and walked toward her.
Dino froze for a moment.
Sensing that the youth’s battle intent had truly subsided, he followed half a step behind. Kusakabe, Chinari, and Romario all perceptively stepped back to a distance to avoid stepping into the minefield of this young Cloud Guardian who hated “crowding.”
Seeing him open the breakfast box, Jin Chaoyan stood beside him and asked with a smile, “Do you want to go back to the base to rest tonight? The decoration style there is actually the same as the main house; it should be the type you like.”
Hibari Kyoya picked up his chopsticks, glanced at her, and replied calmly, “Sure.”
Dino, who had walked over to Romario to get his own breakfast, didn’t miss their natural dialogue. He looked at the Japanese food in the box and felt the harmonious atmosphere between them. He turned to whisper to Kusakabe:
“Did something happen that I don’t know about?”
“I feel like this kid Kyoya has changed a bit compared to that stubborn, unapproachable version from last night.”
Kusakabe was also completely baffled.
Nearby.
Jin Chaoyan pulled out her black card and waved it in front of the youth with a bit of pride. “Want to buy some change of clothes? I’ll swipe my card for you.”
Hibari Kyoya was so good-looking, with a stature like a straight poplar, broad shoulders, and long legs—he was definitely a standard clothes hanger. Besides, his ten-years-later self could wear TF brand haute couture suits with such presence, and his ten-years-ago self could make an ordinary old Namimori uniform look unique…
To be honest, Jin Chaoyan kind of wanted to play a game of “Miracle Cloud Guardian.”
“No.”
With the clothes Kusakabe had prepared, he had no interest in wasting time on things other than fighting.
The woman wasn’t discouraged by the rejection. She thought for a bit. “There’s a very good Japanese restaurant nearby. Do you want to upgrade your meals later?”
“Please, Chairman, give me a chance to show off by spending some money~”
Perhaps because the atmosphere between them had been quite good lately, Jin Chaoyan didn’t even realize she had slipped into the same coquettish manner she used with the future Hibari.
The youth’s chopsticks paused. He looked at her with quite a bit of surprise. Just as he was about to speak, Hibird, who had been perched on her shoulder in silence since they met, finally couldn’t hold back. It flapped its wings: “Hibari~ Hibari~”
He instinctively looked away, his expression softening significantly. “Hibird, the necklace and sunglasses are very cute.”
The bird, having long forgotten its “mutual hatred” with the mistress from the night before, immediately flew from Jin Chaoyan’s shoulder to the top of his head, finding its familiar spot and settling down.
Meanwhile, the woman took advantage of his good mood to persist for once:
“Really, I’m super rich.”
The boy, whose mood was quite good after being approached by his pet again, turned his grey-blue eyes toward the card in her hand. He rarely changed his mind and replied, “Oh?”
He gave a slight smile. “Exactly how much money is in this supplementary card of yours?”
Jin Chaoyan froze.
What?
Kusakabe, who was listening nearby with Dino and the others, couldn’t help but speak up to support Jin Chaoyan’s point: “There really is a lot of money. Before future Kyo-san left, he transferred most of the liquid capital from the Foundation’s accounts into Madam’s supplementary card.”
Dino, who was drinking tea: “Pfft—”
He rarely choked in front of his subordinates, but he quickly recovered. Only his brown eyes widened in disbelief. “You mean Kyoya moved the liquid capital from the group’s accounts into a private account?”
The Cavallone family had once faced a serious economic crisis. After training with Reborn, Dino had turned the tide when the building was about to collapse, leading Cavallone out of its predicament. Because of this, he was very sensitive to financial issues.
“The capital flow of the Foundation is so massive. Does that guy have any idea that this kind of behavior can easily trigger market panic?!”
Both Hibari Kyoya and Jin Chaoyan were stunned.
After a moment, the youth snapped back to reality. The smile on his lips deepened as he looked pointedly at the woman with the blank expression. “So, it turns out it’s my money too.”
Jin Chaoyan: “…”
Jin Chaoyan: “…………”
The hand holding the card trembled slightly. She couldn’t recover from this massive blow. Thinking about her spending in the “Scam Store” and on luxury goods since her transmigration, countless zeros floated through her mind—except those numbers were preceded by a minus sign.
If—and she meant if—the Hibari Kyoya from ten years later returned, and this marriage reached the day the agreement expired…
Excuse me, how much money would she need to pay back?
