After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
“Bang!”
The soda can in Gokudera’s hand exploded completely, spraying juice all over his arm. After hearing Lambo’s words, his pupils suffered a seismic shock. Looking at the pair of adults by the elevator, his ears turned an inexplicable shade of red as he turned around to bark fiercely:
“Stupid cow! What are you saying!”
“Lambo, no! That’s rude!” I-Pin raised her soft voice, turning her head to scold her friend for his shocking outburst.
Lambo stuck out his tongue and made a face at her, mocking: “Lord Lambo isn’t wrong! Stupid Gokudera and I-Pin don’t know anything!”
I-Pin knitted her small brows, wanting to reply, but Lambo had already run off. For a moment, the dining room was filled with the atmosphere of their bickering and chasing.
Ding—
Sawada Tsuna and Tetsuya Kusakabe stepped out of the next elevator. Seeing Kyoya Hibari still in the corridor, and then seeing Lambo and I-Pin chasing each other right to the feet of him and Jin Chaoyan, Tsuna’s expression instantly turned to one of pure terror.
Thump.
A baby wearing a black suit and a fedora dropped from the ceiling, stepping on Sawada Tsuna and pinning his chin to the ground. “Don’t make such a pathetic face, Tsuna.”
Maintaining his posture atop Tsuna’s head, Reborn smiled at Kyoya Hibari and Jin Chaoyan, his gaze eventually settling on the latter. “Ciao~ My name is Reborn. Hibari, is this your wife? She suits you well.”
“Thank you, baby.”
A smile appeared on Kyoya Hibari’s lips as he accepted the compliment with a mild expression.
At this point, Sawada Tsuna, who had been suddenly stomped into the floor, struggled to get up, complaining in pain, “Don’t ambush me out of nowhere, Reborn! Besides, when did you find out Hibari-senpai was married?”
“A bit earlier than you,” Reborn’s large black eyes watched the woman who had just greeted his fedora, saying thoughtfully, “But this lady looks quite familiar.”
“True,” Takeshi Yamamoto, who had finally processed the fact that the future Hibari was married, rubbed his chin. “I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere.”
Patting the dust off his clothes, Sawada Tsuna stood up. When Gokudera rushed over to ask if he was alright, he shook his head and replied helplessly, “Because Jin-san is our classmate…”
Everyone around them was shocked: “EH?!”
Compared to their reactions, Jin Chaoyan remained calm. Sensing the unpleasant aura radiating from the man beside her intensifying—finally reaching his limit as the crowd grew larger—she acted.
Chu.
Hibird, perched on Jin Chaoyan’s shoulder, was suddenly scooped up by its mistress. Its cute beak unexpectedly kissed Kyoya Hibari on the cheek, catching the man, who had already pulled out his tonfa to “bite to death” these crowding herbivores, completely off guard.
Because of this action, the chatter of the surrounding people came to an abrupt halt. Once again, a dead silence returned to the corridor.
Only the little bird who had suddenly kissed its master was happy. It hopped in Jin Chaoyan’s open palm, flapping its wings joyfully and chirping softly: “Hibari~ Hibari~”
It hopped twice more, jumped back onto Jin Chaoyan’s shoulder, and—striving to be fair—also kissed Jin Chaoyan on the cheek. “Chaoyan~ Chaoyan~”
The man, his anger suddenly interrupted by the pet’s affection, lowered his gaze and looked at Jin Chaoyan with a half-smile. “What are you doing?”
Already within the “crowding” range and feeling herself on the verge of being bitten to death, Jin Chaoyan, who had used this as a desperate measure of self-preservation, braved it and offered a flattering smile, softening her voice to say: “Don’t… don’t be angry.”
The grey-blue eyes met the violet eyes for a few seconds.
A moment later, Kyoya Hibari retracted his tonfa and turned away, taking the lead to walk out of this area with its excessively high concentration of crowding herbivores. With his back to the crowd, he raised a hand to yawn and left behind a sentence:
“Forget it. Come back when you’ve played enough. Tetsuya, let’s go.”
“Yes, Kyo-san.” Tetsuya Kusakabe hurried to keep up, not forgetting to leave a message for Jin Chaoyan: “I wish Madam a pleasant time.”
Eh?
The strategy worked?
Jin Chaoyan was quite surprised; she hadn’t expected the power of the cute Hibird to be so great. Though she knew he couldn’t see it, she nodded. “Okay, I’ll come back after I leave the snacks.”
However, the man who was halfway gone suddenly remembered something. He reached into his suit pocket with his right hand, turned sideways again, and tossed a shiny object toward Jin Chaoyan that reflected the corridor lights. “Catch.”
“?”
With her fingertip hooked through the fabric of the food box, Jin Chaoyan instinctively opened her palm. Seeing a ring the size of a pigeon egg with wings on the edges fall right into her hand, she dazed for a second. “This is…?”
Gokudera, standing next to Tsuna, had sharp eyes. He stared with wide emerald eyes at the ring Jin Chaoyan had caught. His brow furrowed as he found its presence here unbelievable: “That color and shape… could it be Gamma’s Mare Ring?”
Takeshi Yamamoto, who had been relaxed just a moment ago beside his father, also lost his smile and nodded seriously. “No mistake, that’s the Lightning Mare Ring he uses.”
Sawada Tsuna, who still hadn’t reacted to the luck of escaping another beating: “…”
He looked at Jin Chaoyan, then at the ring in her hand.
The person being stared at was also bewildered. She didn’t know what the man was up to, holding the ring without moving, until the man who had stopped a distance ahead turned his head and asked calmly:
“Didn’t you say last time you wanted the most expensive one?”
Hmm? Which time?
Jin Chaoyan let out a slow “Ah,” remembering after the kidnapping case, she had given him a Mist ring. She was supposed to pick one of the other five attributes in exchange but ended up failing to light a flame, losing three houses in the process.
Later, some fool had taken her dangerous houses off her hands, so she had put the matter out of her mind.
This man actually remembered all this time?
She looked at the ring in her palm again and gave a timely reminder: “I can’t light a flame this time either!” Don’t even think about tempting her with another billion!
“Do as you wish with it—”
Kyoya Hibari’s voice was lazy, as he was unwilling to speak so much outside of combat. “It belongs to the same Super-A rank as the Vongola Rings. The materials are unique, and it’s a priceless item with no market supply, but the gemstone on it is worth over five billion. You can take it to an auction; the Millefiore people will buy it back.”
Jin Chaoyan: “!”
She instantly closed her hand tight. Under the stunned gazes of Gokudera, Yamamoto, and Tsuna, she smiled as bright as a flower and spoke sweetly to Kyoya Hibari: “Thank you, Hubby~ I love you so much~”
The man let out a soft huff and commented with a light laugh: “Your love is quite cheap.”
“Is five billion cheap?” Even if the yen is weak, please show some respect to five billion!
Kyoya Hibari couldn’t be bothered to argue. This time his pace didn’t stop. He walked straight down the long corridor, his black suit disappearing around the corner.
Jin Chaoyan turned around, wanting to give the snacks she brought to the girls, but the moment she turned back, she was surrounded by people.
Bianchi, holding Reborn, couldn’t help but sigh with emotion at the scene. “How romantic~ Even if the ring wasn’t used for a proposal, dedicating the glory of spoils to one’s beloved is truly romantic~ Reborn, I want to defeat the enemies outside for you too, and give you their rings!”
Gokudera stared at Jin Chaoyan’s hand holding the Mare Ring. “To just give away an enemy ring like that so casually…”
“Haha, what does it matter? It’s probably just ‘couple fun,’ right? Although I’m a bit sad I couldn’t defeat Gamma myself, I’m so envious! Dad, am I married ten years from now?” Takeshi Yamamoto asked his father with a laugh.
“You brat, you have the nerve to ask! You’re still a bachelor ten years from now! Don’t make me worry about you!”
“Ah, really? Oh boy, looks like I’ll have to work harder.”
Gokudera snorted with his arms crossed, then immediately made a fist and said to Sawada Tsuna, “Don’t be like this baseball idiot, Tenth! You must be married ten years from now. With your perfect personality, it’s impossible for you to fall behind a guy like Hibari!”
Sawada Tsuna, suddenly dragged into the competition: “…?”
He instinctively waved his hands, wanting Gokudera to stop praising him, but his gaze drifted toward Kyoko, who had walked over to Jin Chaoyan.
The Vongola Decimo, about to imagine a beautiful future, suddenly heard his tutor snort in his lover’s arms, pouring cold water over his head:
“Hmph, what a pity. Fuuta said that Tsuna-kun is also a bachelor ten years from now.”
Gokudera Hayato jumped up immediately. “How is that possible! Reborn-san, how could the Tenth lose—ah, Sis, don’t suddenly lean over…”
On the other side.
The food box in Jin Chaoyan’s hand was snatched by a jumping Lambo. She let go and suddenly picked up I-Pin, who was about to chase him. “Don’t chase him, I-Pin. I have more snacks over there. If you want some, I’ll take you there later.”
The little girl in the cheongsam turned red and met Jin Chaoyan’s gaze, nodding politely in her arms and saying in Chinese, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Jin Chaoyan replied in Chinese. Looking at her somewhat old clothes, she tilted her head. “Did you guys not bring clothes when you came over? I’ll have someone send you some new ones later.”
Holding I-Pin, she looked at Kyoko and Haru, who had gathered around out of curiosity. “Hello, my name is Jin Chaoyan. You probably remember my name, right? Anyway, we’re on good terms now. Even though I don’t know how you got smaller… want to see the dessert group I made?”
Haru was stunned. “Eh? Are we friends ten years from now? What dessert group?”
Kyoko thought for a moment. “I remember now! Jin-san—no, should I call you Hibari-san now? You’ve changed so much.”
Don’t suddenly use that surname! It’s terrifying!
Jin Chaoyan shook her head. “Just call me Chaoyan.”
She took out her phone to show them the chat history. Soon, the girls huddled together in novelty, their heads touching as they looked at the group messages.
“So Hana is in the group too…”
“Wow, this car is so cute! This bag is so cute too! And Hibird is so cute!”
Because it was lively and there was the great news of Yamamoto’s father being saved, everyone unanimously decided to hold a celebration party tonight. Everyone currently in both bases was invited, and dinner would be provided by the master chef of Take Sushi, Mr. Tsuyoshi Yamamoto.
Jin Chaoyan sat on the sofa in the hall drinking juice, with Hibird sleeping on her head. Sawada Tsuna hesitated before coming over. “Um… Jin… Hibari… Chaoyan-san.”
Vongola Hyper Intuition worked strangely here, letting him pick the most appropriate form of address. “For the party tonight, Hibari-senpai will come too, right?”
Good question.
Jin Chaoyan shook her head honestly. “I don’t think so. What do you think?”
Sawada Tsuna: “?”
Haru, who was looking at the pattern of Jin Chaoyan’s bracelet under the light, turned her head and asked curiously: “Why? Given the relationship between you and him… he’ll definitely come, right?”
Jin Chaoyan gave a dry laugh. “Even though he and I are married, Haru, does he look like the type who listens to his wife’s suggestions?”
“He is.”
Haru nodded firmly. “I saw it just now. He had his weapons out and the atmosphere was so dangerous, but you calmed him down right away—”
“Wait, the one who kissed him was Hibird, it had nothing to do with me.” Jin Chaoyan replied reasonably. Actually, she hadn’t expected her action to make Hibari give up his intent either. Thinking about it now, she was more surprised than anyone in this hall, okay!
Was the man just in an exceptionally good mood today?
Gokudera was lying on the next sofa, still not recovered from his stomach ache, and said in a haunting voice, “But he gave you that Gamma ring…” For a normal person who couldn’t even light a flame, Kyoya Hibari actually gave her such a powerful ring to play with, even letting her sell it. That’s a Mare Ring!
Oh, true.
Five billion.
At that moment, Fuuta came in with washed fruit. Remembering something, he mentioned with a smile, “By the way, on my rankings, Hibari is number one for ‘The one who pampers his wife most in Namimori’.”
Jin Chaoyan: “?”
The “wife” he’s talking about shouldn’t be me, right?
Or rather, it must have been raining the day that ranking came out!
Lambo came in from outside rolling a ball, the tail of his cow onesie wagging as he hummed with his chin held high in pride: “Lord Lambo said it already! The two of them are in the kind of relationship where they can kiss! You idiots, now you know Lord Lambo was right!”
Yeah, yeah, the “kissing through Hibird” relationship.
Feeling the little bird on her head shifting as it woke up from the noise, she scooped the pet down and kissed its forehead: “Hibird, kiss~”
Sawada Tsuna clasped his hands together and pleaded seriously with Jin Chaoyan, “Anyway, please convey the news of tonight’s celebration to Hibari-senpai, Chaoyan-san!”
Beware of Sky-type empty promises.
Fifteen minutes later.
Back at the Hibari base, Jin Chaoyan felt she had really been fooled and sweet-talked by those people into coming to convey the message about the celebration party.
Anyone could guess with their knees that this man, when faced with her daring to make such an invitation, would only ask with that half-smile if she was asking him to “crowd.”
Help, help…
“What are you doing there?”
A screen door with ink plum blossoms was pulled open. A man who had changed into a yukata stepped out. Seeing the person who hadn’t moved at the entrance of the base, he asked with slight confusion.
“Thinking of you.”
Jin Chaoyan’s mouth was faster than her brain, speaking her thoughts aloud.
Only after saying it did she realize the atmosphere was wrong. She looked up and found the man standing at the door with a subtle expression. There was a clear smile in his grey-blue phoenix eyes, bordering on teasing.
“No… I meant I was thinking about something related to you…” Like how to say the people over there wanted to invite him to a celebration party.
The man, wearing a black kimono yukata with the front crossed to reveal elegant collarbones and a patch of cold-white chest, already had refined features. Now, contrasted by his soft dark hair and the color of his clothes, those grey-blue eyes looked like the brightest adornments. His gaze was exceptionally present.
“Oh?”
A smile soaked into his beautiful voice as well. “What is it?”
For some reason, Jin Chaoyan felt this beauty carried a sense of pressure. Perhaps because she had seen him switch between peaceful laziness and extreme killing intent too many times, she still didn’t quite dare to challenge his bottom line. Her throat tightened as she swallowed, but she remained silent.
Instead, Hibird, who had been perched on her head without moving, tilted its head. It suddenly stood up and flapped its wings, showing off its newly learned word:
“Kiss~ Kiss~”
“Hmm?” The man lowered his voice, carrying a hint of a nasal tone as he asked back.
Jin Chaoyan: “?!”
She was momentarily scrambled by Hibird’s interruption. Then, her head was filled with what the kid Lambo said about a “kissing relationship.” Her gaze swept quickly over the man’s thin lips, and she immediately felt sinful. She shut her eyes tight and waved her hands. “No, no, no—”
“I can.”
The sudden response was short and crisp, easy to mishear.
Jin Chaoyan’s eyelashes fluttered as she opened her eyes in a daze, her violet eyes full of bewilderment. “What did you say?”
“I said, I can.”
Kyoya Hibari leaned against the half-open ink-wash screen. Black yukata, cold-white skin—he looked like a classical beauty who had just stepped out of an ink painting. His usually cold expression was now softened by his slightly raised jaw and his silhouette bathed in the corridor lights. His grey-blue eyes were also filled with warmth.
It gave the illusion that the gaze he cast was indulgent and doting.
But Jin Chaoyan was still dumbfounded.
—Was this dog man really in such a good mood today? She hadn’t even said what it was, and he already said he could?
“…Really?”
Hearing her incredulous question, Kyoya Hibari waited for a moment. Finally losing a bit of patience, his brow furrowed slightly. He had repeated himself twice; why did she still look like she hadn’t reacted?
Thus, he said: “Will you come over, or should I go over?”
“…?”
Jin Chaoyan stared at him for three more seconds before she finally realized what he had agreed to!
For a moment, she even forgot to breathe in terror.
