After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Huaxia, J City, in front of the private jet exclusive boarding bridge.
Because there were no pedestrians in the hallway she had taken to the duty-free shop earlier, Jin Chaoyan’s social death was cured without treatment. She also happened to run into a sale at a luxury store, and she had unconsciously started to shop.
Now, she came to her senses. She looked at the snack bag she had been given, looked down at the pink runway bag hanging on her arm, the popular black-and-white summer outfit she was wearing, and then turned back to look at the new suitcase she was pulling, which contained many changes of clothes, including five nightgowns.
She pushed her sunglasses, which were about to slide down her face, back up, and asked the person who had quietly followed her, “Tetsuya Kusakabe, how long has it been since I came out?”
“Two and a half hours, Madam.”
Kusakabe, holding the snacks and milk tea she had bought for him, answered quickly. He even wanted to pull her suitcase for her, but Jin Chaoyan refused, saying that it wasn’t heavy.
Hibird had fallen asleep again during her shopping spree. Now it was nestled in her handbag, holding a gemstone accessory, not making any sound.
Jin Chaoyan remembered the sales assistant saying that there was a skincare brand on sale nearby. She looked to the side and tried to ask Kusakabe, “He usually has a long rest time, right? Should I… go shopping for a little longer?”
“…”
Tetsuya Kusakabe thought about the noise of planes taking off and landing at the airport. He really wanted to tell her that it was impossible for Kyoya Hibari to rest well in this environment.
But after all these years, he had completely figured out Kyoya Hibari’s unpredictable personality. At this moment, it was impossible for him not to understand the longing in Jin Chaoyan’s eyes to shop at the next brand. Thinking back to her previous appearance when he first saw her, Kusakabe hesitated and chose a compromise:
“Okay, Madam, but Kyoya Hibari’s schedule to Italy is quite tight. Please go and come back quickly.”
Jin Chaoyan gave him an “ok” sign. She handed him the suitcase, told him to wait for her at the door for a few minutes, grabbed her bag, and walked quickly towards the duty-free shop. She replied happily, “Okay, I’m just buying a set of skincare products. It’ll be quick! I’ll call you when I’m checking out!”
Ten minutes later.
The sound of the suitcase’s wheels echoed clearly in the hallway. Jin Chaoyan put the gift boxes on the suitcase, wrapped the straps around the handle, and walked back into the cabin in a good mood.
Hibird woke up at the right time. With a messy fluff of feathers on its head, it poked out from the edge of her handbag, “Chaoyan~ Kyoya~”
The cabin’s dim lighting suddenly became bright.
The single seat was adjusted from a reclining position to an upright one. The long legs wrapped in the suit were propped up again. Before Chao-yan Kin could see his face, she heard a yawn, followed by his voice, which was uncharacteristically hoarse from drowsiness:
“Why did you come back?”
Jin Chaoyan: “…”
She and her suitcase came to a screeching halt in the aisle. She tilted her head to look at the man who was clearly awake, but because of his moodiness, the harmless and cute aura of his sleepiness was instantly replaced by a hint of irritability. Their eyes met as he lazily tilted his head with a slight squint.
During the moment of silence, she cursed the heartless dog-man in her mind. If she hadn’t wanted to hitch a ride to Italy on this flight, she would have borrowed money from Kusakabe to buy a ticket back to Tokyo on the next available flight!
Oh, although Kusakabe said that her previous purchases weren’t charged to him, but to Kyoya’s account.
But so what!
She wasn’t not going to pay him back!
Jin Chaoyan looked at him and replied slowly, “It’s like this, a brand in Milan just invited me to see their summer show, so…”
She had a flash of inspiration. She took Hibird out of her bag, put it on his shoulder, and then took out a gift box of men’s cufflinks that came with the bag she bought. She handed it to him, naturally changing the subject. “By the way, I just saw a pair of cufflinks that are perfect for you. I tore off one of your buttons last time. Can this gift be a form of compensation?”
Jin Chaoyan opened the box, revealing a pair of cufflinks with a gold pattern on a dark purple, almost black background.
Kyoya Hibari lowered his eyes to look at the logo on the box.
Then he looked at the identical clothes she was wearing.
Then he looked at the pink handbag she was holding, with its two decorative straps that looked like little hands, designed to resemble a crooked-mouth emoji. The man gave a cold smile.
—The first thing she gave him was a woman’s ring converted into a man’s ring, the second was a Mist attribute ring she had swiped from someone else, and this time was even more casual. She used his card to buy a bag, and then gave him this insignificant accessory to get rid of him.
“You… you don’t like it?” Seeing his expression, which didn’t look good at all, the woman tried to change her suggestion. “Actually, I also have a tie, but I put it in the suitcase.”
Kyoya Hibari didn’t say anything.
Seeing that he didn’t seem to object, Jin Chaoyan had no choice but to walk over and open the suitcase on the table. She quickly glanced at the carpet where she had spilled the cola earlier and found that the pattern had been changed. Even the soiled thin blanket she had folded and placed on the corner of the table had disappeared.
She took out a tie box from the suitcase. The translucent design made it easy to see the pattern of the tie inside. It was a silver tie with thin black lines. Although it didn’t go with the man’s purple shirt, Jin Chaoyan had seen the cabinet where he kept his clothes and knew that he also had white shirts.
She had also wanted to buy the classic Hermès orange tie, but she wasn’t sure if Kyoya would like such a vibrant color. So after much thought, she chose a more elegant style that was a perfect match for his high-quality face.
“If you don’t like this one either…”
Jin Chaoyan could only think of taking a mask out of the skincare set she had just bought for him, or getting off the plane immediately and buying a ticket to fly to Italy herself.
Kyoya Hibari lowered his eyes, looking at the tie box she was holding out. After a moment, he finally reached out and accepted it—along with the cufflink box she had given him.
After waiting for a while and not hearing him tell her to leave, Jin Chaoyan knew that her “bribe” had been successful. So she sat on the sofa obediently and buckled her seatbelt. This time, she was smarter. She didn’t put any food or drinks on the table in front of her. She decided not to cause him any more trouble.
The plane soon took off again.
During the time it took to leave the runway after its run, the man sitting opposite her looked to the side. He saw that Jin Chaoyan was sitting quietly, not moving or saying she was dizzy. He then turned his gaze back to the two gifts in his lap that had clearly been chosen carefully.
A thoughtful look flashed in Kyoya Hibari’s gray-blue eyes. He remembered that the last time she had pushed a ring across the aisle, it was because she didn’t want to answer his question.
…So, what about this time?
Is it just to hitch a ride to go to the show, or is there another motive?
Midday.
Sicily, Vongola Headquarters.
The summer sea breeze on the island, where the temperature rarely exceeded fifteen degrees Celsius, was pleasant and refreshing. In the light blue-spired castle, someone knocked on the office door at the end of the mural corridor.
After getting permission, the door handle was turned. The first to appear was a very noticeable pompadour. After politely greeting them, he stepped back, revealing the handsome, cold-faced man in a suit behind him.
“Kusakabe-senpai, Hibari-senpai.”
The Vongola Tenth Generation boss got up from behind his desk. He then realized a lot of time had passed. Uncharacteristically, he didn’t continue working on official documents but got up and walked towards the newcomers. “You’re here.”
“Little animal, what do you need from me this time?”
Compared to his warmth, Kyoya Hibari was as cold as ever. Even after Kusakabe closed the door, he didn’t take a single step closer to him.
Tsunayoshi Sawada knew his personality. Being overly polite would only annoy him. While Kyoya was still in a mood to communicate, he walked to the side, opened a mechanism, and took out a set of blueprints. “Thanks to you, senpai, we found a very interesting set of blueprints at König’s place. Your Disciplinary Committee Foundation’s research on Boxes is at the forefront of the world, so I wanted you to take a look.”
Kyoya Hibari took the stack of blueprints and flipped through them. A hint of interest appeared in his phoenix-like eyes:
“Animal Transformation Box?”
“Yes.” Tsunayoshi Sawada nodded. “This is just his concept and rough draft. The other two scientists in the secret society have already died, and his life is hanging by a thread. He also lacks research funds and a place to experiment. This concept is destined to not be realized in the short term, but…”
He took a deep breath, walked to a bookshelf, and took down The History of the Vongola Family from the center. His sunset-colored eyes looked at Hibari, filled with determination: “I have an idea.”
A few minutes later.
“…Using this Animal Transformation Box blueprint as inspiration, and integrating the unique weapons of Vongola Primo for transformation, it’s a good idea.”
Kyoya Hibari looked at him faintly and curled his lips. “But even if it’s designed, the only thing that can match it is probably the Vongola Rings that you already destroyed.”
“I know.”
Tsunayoshi Sawada’s brow furrowed. Although he still had a helpless smile on his face, there was a faint shadow in his eyes. “I hope that after this set of Boxes is designed, it will never see the light of day. Otherwise, it would mean that things have reached the worst possible stage.”
“Oh?”
Kyoya Hibari raised an eyebrow. He couldn’t empathize with his current expression. He just put the blueprints into a storage Box and placed it in his suit pocket. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving.”
“Wait.”
A hesitant voice of protest came from behind him.
He stopped, but the next sound was the knocking on the door, and the noise that could be heard through the thick wooden door.
“It’s Gokudera-kun and the others.” After finishing the serious business, Tsunayoshi Sawada’s expression relaxed a lot. He personally went to open the door and indeed saw the other guardians.
“Oh! Hibari! It’s been the ultimate long time since I’ve seen you since middle school! Why didn’t you tell me you got married? I gave you an invitation to my wedding with Hana!” Ryohei Sasagawa walked quickly towards him. He extended his hand, which was always wrapped in protective bandages, towards him, and was about to put it on his shoulder—
The next second.
His movement was blocked by the tonfas he had pulled out at some point, which were gleaming with a cold metallic light!
“Don’t get chummy with me. We’re not that close.” Seeing the former head of the Namimori Boxing Club again, Kyoya Hibari’s face showed no sign of nostalgia for the past.
“Damn it! You’re as heartless as ever! You’re a married man now! You should have the responsibility that married men have! You’re so extremely cold to everyone! No wonder they all suspect that your marriage life isn’t harmonious!”
After his hand was pushed away, Ryohei Sasagawa couldn’t help but clench his fists. He started lecturing in a loud voice, looking angry at his failure to be a better man.
“You’re meddling too much.”
Seeing that he didn’t try to touch him again, Kyoya Hibari put away his tonfas. He was about to leave when another hand was placed on his shoulder. “Hey, Hibari, the Tenth told you to bring your family with you. Why are you here alone?”
Facing Hayato Gokudera’s question, he turned his head in displeasure. A silver flash suddenly streaked through the air. Although the Vongola Storm Guardian dodged in time, a few silver strands of his medium-length hair were cut by the man’s sharp strike.
“I said, don’t put your hands on me—”
Under his black bangs, killing intent rose in his gray-blue phoenix-like eyes. He swept his gaze over the gathered crowd. Kyoya Hibari gave a cold laugh. “And, if you flock together in front of me again, I will bite all of you to death.”
“Okay, okay, we haven’t seen each other in so long, don’t be so irritable.” Takeshi Yamamoto pulled Gokudera back a little. Before he could take out his bombs, he looked at Kyoya Hibari with a hearty smile. “Don’t be mad, Hibari. Gokudera is just worried about you. By the way, Tsuna should have told you that Vongola has arranged a physical examination. It starts tomorrow morning. Don’t be absent.”
“I don’t need that kind of thing.”
He refused in a cold voice and walked quickly towards the door, unable to stay in this environment of herding herbivores for another second.
“Hibari-senpai…” Tsunayoshi Sawada was about to try to make him stay when he was interrupted by Ryohei, who was striding towards him. “You ultimately need it! You definitely didn’t have a pre-marital physical. This is a good time to get it done! Don’t avoid reality! This is not the responsibility a mature man should have!”
“…”
Kyoya Hibari couldn’t be bothered to listen to this nonsense. He grabbed the doorknob before the persistent Ryohei Sasagawa could catch up to him.
Just then.
A thin purple mist floated in from the window, carrying a chilling aura, accompanied by the laughter of the person who had arrived: “Kufufu, what did I say before? It seems only men with poor physical abilities avoid a normal physical examination like the plague—”
After the mist disappeared, two figures appeared.
The other person was wearing a white lab coat. He looked at the people gathered in the room with a disgusted expression. “Vongola Tenth, where is the beautiful lady whose health I was supposed to check?”
Following everyone’s gaze, Shamal’s eyes settled on Kyoya Hibari, who had his back to him. He pondered for two seconds, then burst out laughing. “He can’t do it either. I said ten years ago that unless he had a sister who looked like him, even if his function in that area is no good now and he’s facing a crisis of passing on his genes, I would never make an exception!”
The room was silent for two seconds.
Takeshi Yamamoto tried to smooth things over. “Don’t be so heartless. This is really a big deal for Hibari’s future life—”
A “whoosh” sound.
A purple flame suddenly lit up by the office door. The man, who had turned his head at some point, had a cold expression. Only the Cloud Ring on his finger conveyed his true emotions. The flames it produced spread out, shooting in all directions from him as the center. From a distance, it looked like fireworks were being lit indoors.
“Bang!”
The next second, the ring shattered instantly due to the overwhelming anger it was carrying.
The man, whose killing intent had spread and stirred up a storm in the calm office, expressionlessly took out another ring from his pocket. After putting it on his finger, he took out two purple Boxes with cloud patterns from his pocket. He looked at everyone in the room one by one. His voice was icy as he said:
“I’ve changed my mind.”
“Today, I’m going to bite all of you boring herbivores to death.”
The ring’s flames were poured into the two Cloud-attribute Boxes. The four corners of the Boxes were gradually crumbling due to the excessively strong flame fluctuations.
Tsunayoshi Sawada was startled. He didn’t care about stopping the other guardians who had been jumping on the man’s self-esteem since earlier. He said to Hibari, who was opening the Boxes: “Wait, Hibari-senpai—”
Don’t fight here!
That night.
On a street in Sicily, a half-open bar door floated out a melodious sound of music.
The woman in a low-key denim outfit came out from the corner of a wall. She pulled her hat down and entered the bar. She smelled the perfume floating in the air.
She declined two men who came up and spoke to her in Italian, and she didn’t know what they were saying. She looked around and finally saw her target for this meeting in a corner.
She walked straight towards him. She saw the man with shoulder-length silver-white hair and a nerdy, old-fashioned round glasses. “Hello, I’m the client.”
“Hello, Miss Kin. I’m the private investigator who has been serving you. You can just call me Kawahira.” The man spoke in Japanese. He nodded to her and raised his hand, inviting her to sit opposite him.
Jin Chaoyan glanced at the drink menu but didn’t plan to order. She went straight to the point, looking at the person opposite her. “You should know why I’m here.”
“Of course, of course…”
The detective had a Kansai accent, giving people a frivolous feeling. But the device he then handed to Jin Chaoyan and the information on it was anything but frivolous.
The woman glanced at the photos of the Millefiore building in the data and the information about the Black and White Spell forces. She looked up at Mr. Kawahira.
“What Miss Kin wants is not very simple.”
“Is that so?” Jin Chaoyan closed the laptop and pulled out the read-only USB drive. She looked at him calmly. “But I don’t think this is enough.”
“Oh, the targets of the investigation are those scary Mafia. I, a mere ordinary Japanese detective, am very lucky to have obtained this much—”
Kawahira picked up the hat on the table next to him, turned it, and looked at Jin Chaoyan with a smile.
She was decisive: “I’ll pay more.”
“You are truly a straightforward person,” Kawahira smiled at her. The eyes behind his glasses looked straight at her, giving off a sharp feeling. A moment later, seeing that she was unmoved, he returned to his casual demeanor. “But it’s probably difficult to get more information about this family in the short term.”
“However, there is currently only one family that can compete with it. Do you need information about them?”
Oh.
The Vongola.
Jin Chaoyan thought for a moment. A good memory is no match for a bad pencil. She really couldn’t rely on her on-and-off memories of the anime. She nodded. “Okay, name your price.”
“It’s a pleasure doing business with you.”
Kawahira quickly took out another encrypted USB drive and handed it to her. As if he had remembered something, he said with a smile, “By the way, since you’re a big client, for an extra thousand dollars, I’ll give you a big news story about their family from today.”
Jin Chaoyan: “?”
She was a little moved, but just as she was hesitating whether to buy it or not, the other party had already conveniently taken out a POS machine.
“…”
After swiping the card that Chinami had brought for her when she flew to Italy, she said woodenly, “Tell me, what’s the big news?”
Kawahira thought for a moment. He wrote the headline “Vongola Cloud Guardian Suspected of Having Sexual Dysfunction, After Being Exposed, Went on a Rampage at Vongola Headquarters, Flattening Half of Vongola” in his phone’s notes and held it up for her to see.
Chaoyan: “…”
Chaoyan: “…………”
RNM! Give me my money back!
Did I spend a thousand dollars to hear gossip about my sham husband?! Is this garbage gossip worth that much money?!
Her expression changed again and again, as if a colorful paint palette had been overturned on her face. Kawahira tilted his head in confusion. “Oh, right, I forgot that an elegant and beautiful lady like you can’t hear about such things. How about this, I’ll give you a 50% refund.”
This time, it was Jin Chaoyan’s turn to expressionlessly give him her bank account number.
A moment later, after seeing the $500 transfer notification, the woman pondered for two seconds. She grabbed the corner of the table and leaned towards him, staring intently at Kawahira’s glasses:
“Is this news of yours for real?”
She cleared her throat: “I mean, is he really… having physical problems?”
