After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
Customer Service 001: “Dear, to ensure your normal use of BOOK, the mall will gift you one free 10-pull draw. The cards are selected from the card pool of 100 Greed Island cards, with difficulty ranging from G (Normal) to S (Rare) in increasing order.”
Customer Service 001: “After using the 10-pull draw, each 500,000 yen spent grants one draw. Cards can be duplicates. To give back to our mall users, the first 300 draws are guaranteed to include one S-card.”
Late at night.
After taking a shower, Jin Chaoyan sat on the handmade rug by the window. Just as she finished reading the prenuptial agreement the original owner had signed with Hibari, she saw a message from the mall’s customer service.
Kazuko Kin, who had taken a bottle of vintage red wine from the cellar and was holding two wine glasses, knocked on the open bedroom door. She stepped barefoot onto the rug in the bedroom and saw the person on the sofa holding her phone with a blank expression. She asked, “Big sister, what are you doing?”
“Watching a dog bark.”
“…”
Kazuko Kin looked around, even going to the window to scan the beautiful cityscape with its scattered lights. She looked down. “Where’s the dog?”
Jin Chaoyan saw the bottle of Romanée-Conti in her arms. “What are you doing with wine?”
Kazuko had Chinatsu bring in a decanter and a corkscrew. She looked at Jin Chaoyan with a “why are you asking such a dumb question” expression. She sniffed the bottle’s neck through the cork, as if she could actually smell the aroma of the exquisite wine that way.
“The law says you have to be at least twenty years old to drink—” Jin Chaoyan reached out, confiscated the red wine from her arms, and looked up at her butler. “Chinatsu, get her some milk.”
“Eh?”
Kazuko Kin’s face was full of rejection. “No way. Who wants milk? We’re at home anyway. As long as you don’t say anything, no one will know.”
The woman with light hair placed the red wine on her side. Hearing her protest, she reached out and, amidst her sister’s stubborn expression, she raised a hand and patted her head. “Good girl.”
Kazuko Kin: “…”
She was quiet for a moment. “Are you trying to me like a three-year-old?”
“Of course not,” Jin Chaoyan replied, all the while thinking, You’re way more trouble than a three-year-old. Catching Kazuko’s gaze, she remembered the 10-pull draw the mall had mentioned and said, “By the way, do you want to see me do a magic trick?”
“Do you think I’ll be convinced by that?”
Kazuko Kin said with a pout. “Yes!”
“BOOK!”
In the rich, intoxicating aroma of the red wine, Jin Chaoyan summoned the Greed Island card book. She swirled the wine in the glass, took a sip of the slightly astringent wine, and directly redeemed the 10-pull from Customer Service 001.
Perhaps the dog-mall had heard her earlier insults and, in an effort to keep her as a high-spending VIP, the free 10-pull actually yielded an S-card—
S-8 Disappearing Hole: Upon entering the hole, one can randomly arrive at a remote, uninhabited area in the country. By returning to the hole, one can effortlessly return to the original location where the hole was first opened.
The other special cards were a A13-Wandering Ghost Pillow, a B30-“Whatever” Questionnaire, and seven duplicate G380-Again cards.
“Wow.”
Kazuko Kin looked at the book that appeared out of thin air and the glowing cards. Her memory returned to the warehouse from that day, and her eyes sparkled as she looked at Chao-yan Kin. “Big sister, can you secretly tell me, do you have some kind of mysterious special ability?”
Feeling that the wine was too astringent and didn’t taste good, Jin Chaoyan downed it in one go, placed the glass back on the table, and let out a “hmm?” “I wish I had a special ability too, wuwuwu.”
I could get a special ability for free, but not from this dog-mall.
Hearing the tone at the end of her sentence, Kazuko Kin put down the cup of milk she didn’t want to drink anyway. She leaned towards the low table. “…Big sister, are you drunk?”
She looked at the brownish-red color on Jin Chaoyan’s face and looked at Chinatsu next to her, at a loss. “Is she a one-cup drunk?”
“In fact, this is the first time I’ve seen the madam drink alcohol,” the butler said, also looking worried. “The madam’s health was severe before, and she never touched alcohol. Now that she’s had this one cup, I don’t know what will happen. I’ll contact the family doctor to prepare.”
She finished speaking and stood up to find a maid outside the door.
Only Jin Chaoyan, who had finished one glass and was now staring blankly at the shiny glass, was left. “Big sister, are you alright?”
The woman’s violet eyes were now like a summer flower field gently illuminated by moonlight. Hearing Kazuko’s voice, she slowly shifted her gaze, looking at the girl. After more than ten seconds, she belatedly let out an “ah.” “I need to demonstrate how to use the card for you, right?”
She casually grabbed a card from the table and placed it in Kazuko’s palm. She then blindly picked one up for herself and said to the card:
“GAIN!”
Customer Service 001’s notification popped up on her phone. “Using [G380-Again], you can fly to a designated remote location. Please choose a designated location.”
Chao-yan Kin, who couldn’t see the message, frowned. She said “GAIN” to the card again, repeating it until her phone started vibrating, causing even Kazuko next to her to look horrified. “Big sister, maybe we should just stop…”
Even the “money-grubbing” mall was suffocated by her obliviousness. It simply projected the conversation content as a hologram in front of her, along with a map, and a mechanical voice appeared in her mind:
Please choose a designated location.
Jin Chaoyan squinted her eyes. She barely saw a green dot on the map. As soon as she made a decision, a ray of light came from the card and wrapped her entire body. The next moment, the flowing light surrounding her flew out the open window!
“Where’s the madam?”
Chinatsu, who had returned after speaking with the maid, looked at the missing person by the low table in the room and asked in confusion.
The dazed Kazuko, holding the card from the phone, pointed to the window. “She… she flew away?”
Haneda International Airport.
Next to a private jet that had been inspected by the flight crew and had its door open, a tall, slender figure in a black suit stood under a street lamp. A plump, bright yellow little bird was perched peacefully on his right shoulder.
The bird’s cute and lovely appearance was in perfect harmony with the man’s gentle and handsome face, but none of the crew members who passed by dared to look at him for too long. They only bowed and saw him onto the boarding stairs—
As his black leather shoe stepped onto the last stair, the bird on his shoulder flapped its wings and flew into the cabin first. The man, who had reached the door, suddenly sensed a presence inside. His fingertips, which were resting at his side, twitched, but in the end, he made no further movement. He simply quickened his pace to enter the cabin.
Walking down the narrow corridor, Kyoya Hibari’s gaze fell on the light beige, soft sofa on the right side of the cabin. The Hibird that had flown in earlier was now bouncing around in the light-colored, long hair spread out on the sofa, no longer looking as sleepy as it did on his shoulder. Noticing his gaze, Hibird happily said:
“Kyoya~ Kyoya~”
Then it used its beak to gently peck the head of the person lying on the sofa. “Chaoyan~ Chaoyan~”
“Hmm?”
The person lying on the sofa heard the lively voice of the little bird. She stirred as if aware of something, revealing a pair of slightly red, hazy, and intoxicated eyes. She mumbled in confusion, “…Hibird?”
She instinctively reached out with her fingertips and saw the little bird fly over, its two claws firmly gripping her index finger, perching on it and calling to her in a thin voice, “Chao-yan~”
The lights in the cabin came on full blast. A shadow covered her from the side. A cold voice, completely devoid of sentiment, interrupted her happy reunion with her pet. “Jin Chaoyan, what are you doing here?”
He smelled a hint of alcohol mixed in with her perfume. His tone became even more unpredictable. “You’ve been drinking.”
“Mmm… one glass.”
The person lying on the sofa frowned. She seemed to feel unwell for some reason. Her messy hair covered her flushed cheeks.
After answering his question, she lifted her head. Her form-fitting silk pajamas gathered and released light in the illumination.
She looked at the figure standing in front of her, her frown deepening. Feeling dizzy, she couldn’t help but reach out and grab the corner of his suit. “Don’t move.”
Kyoya Hibari looked down at her fingers clutching his suit. Her nails had a new design, but the length was no longer as exaggerated as before. They were trimmed neatly and to a standard length.
He paused and, unusually, repeated himself. “Why are you here?”
“I…”
Jin Chaoyan was stumped by his question. She struggled to think for a moment. “I don’t know.”
Her brain was clouded by the alcohol. She couldn’t handle complex problems right now. She tilted her head back and stared at the person in front of her for a while, a look of sudden realization on her face. “You… I think I have a question for you.”
“Hmm?”
With his cooperation, Jin Chaoyan directly asked the question that had been buried in her heart:
“Why did you get married?”
