After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
After silently reciting the original owner’s academic background a few times, Jin Chaoyan returned to her seat with a plate of strawberry “magic wands.” The bright red strawberries rested on a bed of fluffy white cream, embraced by pink bread, a dessert of fantastical appearance.
Chinatsu had no intention of eating dessert and ordered a cup of coffee instead. He listened as she voluntarily brought up their earlier conversation:
“I went to Namimori National for elementary and middle school, and after that, my family had me move to Tokyo for high school…”
Kyoko Sasagawa had chosen a slice of red velvet cake. Sitting on the comfortable sofa, she smiled and said, “Namimori National? Which class were you in during middle school?”
“Oh! So Kin-chan and Kyoko are schoolmates. Too bad I went to Green Garden Girls’ Middle School… but I often went to Namimori Middle School, so maybe I ran into Kin-chan before.”
Haru Miura, carrying her Black Forest cake, hadn’t even sat down yet, but she was leaning over the back of the sofa with great enthusiasm.
“…Class A?”
Jin Chaoyan saw the expectant expressions on their faces and raised one eyebrow.
No way, it can’t be that much of a coincidence, can it?
The god of luck didn’t seem to hear her prayer. As she chewed her dessert, her jaw slowly stopped moving, from Haru’s shock to Kyoko’s understanding “Ah.”
“I feel like you must have changed a lot, Miss Kin, because I’ve been trying to remember for so long and I can’t recall what you looked like in our middle school class.”
Hearing Kyoko Sasagawa’s words, Chao-yan waved her hand, trying to change the subject. “Since we’re all the same age, let’s drop the honorifics, shall we? You can just call me Chaoyan.”
“Then you can just call me Haru.”
“Me too, just Kyoko is fine.”
The three of them created a “Namimori Dessert Sharing Group.” Just as she thought they had moved past the “reminiscing about youth” part, Haru suddenly remembered something. “Oh, Kyoko, I remember you have a middle school class photo on your phone, right? Chaoyan, do you want to see it together?”
Chaoyan: “…?”
Don’t you guys have any embarrassing pasts? Why would you have a middle school class photo on your phone?!
Her pupils shook. She gripped her fork and quickly came up with a thousand and one lies in her head, deciding to say that she had suffered a head injury—
“Eh?”
Chaoyan’s amnesia theory was cut short when she saw the person at the center of the photo on Kyoko’s phone screen.
She completely forgot to look for the original owner in the picture. She pointed to a boy with incredibly thick hair and a gentle, non-threatening aura, who was turning his head, looking camera-shy and timid. “Tsunayoshi Sawada?”
Isn’t he the male protagonist of this world?!
The original owner was in the same class as Tsunayoshi Sawada in middle school!
Both of them were drawn to her actions. Haru tilted her head, and the smile on her face became even brighter. “That’s so like Tsunayoshi Sawada. He’s so charming that even a classmate is so impressed by him just from a photo.”
“Charming, you mean…” When Tsunayoshi Sawada was mentioned, Chaoyan tried to pull out some bits of memory from her “dead” youth that could serve as classmate memories. After two seconds of pondering, she casually said, “The yellow-star-on-blue-background underwear?”
Kyoko, Haru: “…”
They both went silent for a moment, then burst into laughter.
Finding a new victim to be the protagonist of their campus memories, Chaoyan didn’t let this opportunity go. She observed Haru’s expression. “Speaking of which, Haru, the boy you said you used to like, was it him?”
“Yes,” Haru nodded frankly, then looked at her good friend. “But in middle school, the person Tsunayoshi Sawada liked was Kyoko.”
“Wow.”
Chaoyan let out the gasp of a true gossip enthusiast. She finally understood why they looked so familiar. It turned out that her two new friends were the female protagonists of the main love triangle in the anime.
Haru also took the opportunity to explain, “And the Lambo you just saw is the younger brother I used to take care of for Tsunayoshi Sawada—”
“Speaking of which, Lambo just said he was going to help his older brother find out about a senior’s marriage. Could it be one of Tsunayoshi Sawada’s friends?”
The realization dawned on her, and she lightly hit her right palm with a clenched left fist.
“Achoo!”
At the Hibari mansion.
The boy in the cow-print casual suit was sitting properly in the guest room. He rubbed his nose, preparing to eat the cake he had just gotten. He said to Kusakabe, who was trying to persuade him, with absolute certainty, “I’m not leaving! Lambo-sama made a bet with that idiot Gokudera to be the first to see the Cloud Guardian’s wife’s true face!”
Kusakabe: “…”
Do you have to be so bored that you bet on something like this?!
Noticing his complicated expression, Lambo, with the fork in his mouth, observed him for a long time with his left eye. He then got up with his dessert and walked towards him, clearing his throat on purpose. “How about you secretly tell me her name, or show me a picture of her? That way, I’ll split Gokudera’s money with you, nine to one.”
Watching him take out his phone to log into the Bovino Family’s internal network bounty page, Tetsuya Kusakabe tried to stop him helplessly. “Please don’t treat the Storm Guardian as a sucker. Furthermore, without Mr. Kyoya and the madam’s permission, I cannot reveal this private information.”
“Then you go call and ask them now,” Lambo put down his phone and cake, using his right hand to pinch his slightly curly bangs. His voice was lazy. “Maybe that beautiful lady, upon hearing the voice of the charming Lambo-sama, will immediately reveal her name.”
As soon as he said that, he heard a phone ring.
Tetsuya Kusakabe was surprised by the call and answered it instinctively. He turned his body away. After a while, he replied, “Alright, I’ll tell Kyoya Hibari. And please also be sure to tell the madam to stay safe.”
Lambo’s ears perked up.
He was about to quietly get closer to listen, but Kusakabe had already turned around. “I’m very sorry, Lambo, the madam is leaving for Tokyo today. You probably won’t be able to see her anytime soon. I’m going to receive a package for her now. Please make yourself at home.”
“Huh?”
Lambo watched him leave and instinctively picked up the cake plate to finish the rest. He grabbed his phone and chased after him, asking in a muffled voice, “What do you mean I can’t see her? The Cloud Guardian’s wife isn’t coming back?”
“At the moment, it appears so,” Kusakabe answered cautiously. In reality, thinking about the platonic friendship between the master and mistress of this mansion, he suspected that Chao-yan wouldn’t want to come back at all.
But he didn’t say that. He just went to the mansion’s gate, took the package from the delivery person, and walked towards the backyard.
Lambo followed him the whole time. He was very confused when he saw the direction he was carrying the box. “Even though this place is very complicated, Lambo-sama remembers that the Cloud Guardian’s room isn’t in this direction…”
“The madam’s room is in this direction.”
Tetsuya Kusakabe explained out of habit.
Then Lambo stopped in his tracks.
They looked at each other. After a few seconds, Lambo understood and said “Oh” before looking down and typing on his phone.
Kusakabe had a bad feeling. He leaned over and saw a group chat named “Cloud Guardian’s Wife Reconnaissance Vanguard.” At that moment, Lambo had sent a line of text.
“@Everyone, big news, the Cloud Guardian and his wife are living separately!”
Tetsuya Kusakabe: “!”
He quickly put down the package. Just as Lambo was about to type the conclusion, “Their relationship is not good,” he raised his hand to grab the phone. “Please stop, Lambo. You’re—”
“Beep.”
Lambo quickly dodged him, blinked, and naughtily said a Chinese phrase he learned from his childhood friend I-Pin, “Bu xing.” When he switched hands, he accidentally touched the voice-to-text button and then released it. “Lambo-sama is stating an observed fact.”
At the same time.
The group members who saw the news of the separation clicked on the voice message. A few seconds later, a little lion avatar popped up, scolding,
“Bu xing??? Lambo… what does that Chinese phrase mean? You’re not an adult yet. Do you know what you’re saying?”
After another moment.
A blue seagull avatar popped up with a second message.
“Ha, ha. So that means Kyoya is bu xing? No way?”
