After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
The helicopter’s rotor blades made a deafening noise as they flew. Inside the cabin, Jin Chaoyan, wearing noise-canceling headphones, had her eyes closed and a peaceful expression.
—What’s more embarrassing than accidentally teasing your partner in a sham marriage?
It’s touching him and saying what she said, then trying to run away, only to find that his trusted assistant had already sent the police away. The only transportation options left for her were two:
A helicopter or the number 11 bus (her two feet).
Right now, she raised her hand to adjust the pearl earring on her right ear, which was covered by the headphones. She slightly opened her eyes and glanced at the cabin door on her side, peering out the window at the tops of buildings as the helicopter flew low. She pretended not to see the man in the black suit sitting next to her at all.
When she felt like her toes could curl so hard they could dig out two museums in Tokyo, she finally convinced herself to forget the expression on Kyoya Hibari’s face after she said that inappropriate line. It was at this moment that the helicopter slowly landed on a vast lawn.
The perfectly manicured lawn was stirred into shallow waves by the powerful rotor wash. It wasn’t until she felt the person next to her open the cabin door and leave first that Jin Chaoyan finally dared to take a deep breath. She deliberately fumbled with her seatbelt for a long time before slowly moving toward the open door.
“Madam, please be careful.”
Tetsuya Kusakabe had already gotten out of the pilot’s seat, a fresh blade of grass in his mouth, waiting for her outside the cabin door. He watched as Jin Chaoyan almost fell and was startled, but fortunately, the woman steadied herself.
“I’m fine…” She waved her hand, not even caring about the damaging UV rays, and stood in the sun for a while before recovering from the dizzying, weak-kneed feeling caused by her extreme embarrassment. After a long pause, she looked at the sprawling garden in front of her, a place that was even grander than one in Tokyo and whose vastness she couldn’t even comprehend. She slowly asked, “How far is this place from Tokyo?”
It was at this point that Tetsuya Kusakabe belatedly realized that the madam seemed to have no desire to live with Kyoya. His expression was complicated for a moment, and just as he was about to offer to drive her back, his phone rang with an emergency communication.
The moment he heard the sound, his face changed. He quickly left a hurried “Excuse me” and turned to answer the phone. Chao-yan could only retreat a little, stopping in the shadow of the helicopter to try and get some shade.
Tetsuya Kusakabe’s phone call was a long one. Jin Chaoyan finished counting the jewelry she had lost in this bizarre kidnapping case and looked at the bruises on her wrist that she just noticed from the rough rope before Kusakabe hurried back.
“Apologies, Madam. I just received the latest news. There have been several terrorist attacks in downtown Tokyo, initiated by Millefiore… by a Mafia family. I’m afraid it’s not safe for you to return right now.”
“I’ll have some clean clothes prepared for you shortly. For your safety, please bear with staying here for a few days.”
Jin Chaoyan: “…?”
Seriously? Can this world just get it together?
” Kyoya Hibari, three new pieces of intelligence.”
“The research institute has reported a sharp increase in the content of non-Tri-ni-sette rays in the air across the world. At the same time, Kenich, who was under our surveillance, has suddenly vanished. Finally, due to a surprise attack by Millefiore on the Vongola Headquarters, Verde, who was under Vongola’s protection, was attacked and confirmed to be dead.”
After a pause, Tetsuya Kusakabe said in a heavy tone, “The intelligence department is currently confirming the safety of the Vongola Tenth, the Storm Guardian, and the other Arcobaleno.”
In front of him, the person standing in the corridor was heavily shadowed by the intense midday sun. Kyoya Hibari was silent for a long time, and when he finally spoke, his voice was as calm as ever:
“Understood.”
Tetsuya Kusakabe looked up in surprise, meeting the fierce, unbearable killing intent in his phoenix eyes, which reflected like the light off a dangerous snow-capped peak. He realized that Kyoya’s inner state was far from peaceful. He was like a ferocious beast that had its prey’s fatal spot in its sights but was delaying its attack.
“Do you need me to arrange travel to Italy—”
He tried to make a suggestion but was cut off by Kyoya Hibari. “No.”
“It’s not time yet,” the other man said.
Tetsuya Kusakabe was puzzled. In his view, the expansion and aggression of the Millefiore Family now posed a huge, family-destroying crisis in Vongola’s history. Why hadn’t the Tenth Boss in the Italian headquarters issued a Guardian summons?
And what exactly was the “time” that Kyoya Hibari was referring to?
But facing the unconcealed, and apparently intentionally unconcealed, killing intent and bad mood of the man before him, he could only suppress his questions. “Yes.”
Jin Chaoyan discovered that her new room was even farther from Kyoya Hibari.
After almost getting lost in the corridors and not finding a second person, she returned to her room. She opened the closet and found it was empty. Thinking of how rushed Tetsuya Kusakabe looked when he left, she figured she probably wouldn’t be remembered anytime soon.
Her phone had been broken by the kidnappers, so she couldn’t even contact Chinatsu or confirm if her cheap younger sister was safe at home. Bored, she turned on the TV in the room to listen to the daily news and, sure enough, saw some of the social security incidents that had happened in Tokyo.
The sound of the news was excessively hypnotic, and combined with the shock she had endured earlier, Jin Chaoyan inexplicably fell asleep on the tatami mat.
Her sleep was not peaceful.
She had a chaotic dream. At times, she was back in the warehouse, finding herself without her system’s help and nervously waiting to be killed. At other times, she was in the fog and couldn’t find her way out. Just when she thought she would be trapped forever, she suddenly went back to her student days.
On the desk was a math problem she couldn’t solve, and on a nearby TV, a DVD of Katekyo Hitman Reborn! was playing, an anime whose plot she couldn’t remember.
The anime was in the Future Arc, revolving around battles with rings and boxes. The screen was constantly filled with bursts of colorful light.
She saw a pair of extremely beautiful hands. The purple rings on the middle and ring fingers shattered, and a new one was put on. Then, the hands gripped the purple tonfas—
In the background, someone was saying, What a terrifying man. Even without the Vongola Ring, his combat power is so strong. A regular ring can’t handle his flame output at all.
Jin Chaoyan also felt terrified.
So, she woke up in a fright.
The wooden courtyard window was wide open. The midday sunlight was filtered by the paper screen, but it still felt burning and hot indoors. It was a windless summer day, and even after just a short nap, she was drenched in sweat.
She opened her eyes, feeling as if she had been beaten up. The belated fatigue and soreness washed over her. The sweat on her body stuck to her clothes, making her feel incredibly uncomfortable.
Jin Chaoyan decided to go find Kusakabe to borrow a phone to see if she could contact Chinatsu or have someone deliver some clothes nearby.
Then, she got lost in the huge garden again.
Chaoyan, with her poor person’s mindset, wondered why a rich person’s house had to be so big but couldn’t come up with an answer. Tired of walking, she simply chose a garden step to sit on and rest.
She rested her chin on one hand and was lost in thought, trying to recall the dream she just had. She finally remembered what storyline she was in—the Future Arc related to the Millefiore Family.
The Millefiore Family’s boss, Byakuran, possessed the omniscient ability to know everything in all parallel universes. Driven by his own selfish desires, he launched a war to collect the cornerstones of the world, destroying countless parallel worlds—
In these parallel worlds, the Vongola Family’s Tenth Boss, Tsunayoshi Sawada, had all taken the action of destroying the Vongola Ring, one of the cornerstones of the world, before the war, thereby losing the ability to resist Millefiore and facing annihilation.
Only one last parallel world created the miracle of defeating Byakuran.
The question was, was the world she had arrived in now one of the countless parallel worlds that were about to be destroyed, or was it the one exception?
“What are you doing here?”
A voice suddenly came from a short distance away.
Kyoya Hibari looked at the person who had appeared at his door with an unreadable expression. He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but the marks on her wrist looked even more terrifying, bruised and swollen. Especially when the woman turned to look at him, her slightly messy hair stuck to the side of her face, and she looked much more miserable than she had a few hours ago.
She even exuded a sense of listlessness.
Chaoyan looked at the hands at his side and, as expected, didn’t see a Vongola Ring on him since they met. Her expression became even more distressed.
“…I’m lost.”
After she said that, she paused, then remembered something and asked in a low voice, “Do you have anything to eat? I’m starving.”
His violet eyes blinked. Chaoyan remembered something, raised her hand, and patted the pocket of her slightly worn white jacket. A moment later, she held out her palm to him.
“Can I trade this with you?”
In her palm lay a Mist Ring.
