- Chapter 6 - Heading to the Phantom Moon Forest
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Lu Shi’an pondered to himself what could be important enough for his master and two junior uncles to place such emphasis on the matter. The Sect Leader looked at Immortal Venerable Yuling, signaling her to explain.
Immortal Venerable Yuling did not mince words and stated clearly and concisely, “Shi’an, a month ago, disciples from my Pill Peak and the Sword Peak went to the Phantom Moon Forest together for training, but they have yet to return. Their soul lamps have not extinguished, so we suspect that your junior brothers and sisters are trapped within the secret realm.”
“The Phantom Moon Forest is merely a small secret realm. The highest cultivation level of those who go there is at the Golden Core stage. It just so happens that Yuzhao has broken through to the Foundation Establishment stage, and you have reached the late Golden Core stage. You can use this as an opportunity for training, and incidentally, bring Yuzhao along to accumulate combat experience,” the Sect Leader added.
The Phantom Moon Forest? Isn’t this the place where the original host meets the main protagonist in the book?
Lu Shi’an felt helpless. He had thought that as long as he did not go out for training, he could avoid the protagonist, but the power of the plot was truly formidable. Considering that Yuzhao did indeed lack combat experience—having stayed within the sect for the four years since arriving at the Xuantian Sect without ever venturing out—it would be good to take this opportunity to hone his skills. Lu Shi’an turned to look at Ning Yuzhao to ask for his opinion.
Ning Yuzhao nodded, naturally willing to go. He had been cultivating within the sect for four years and had never ventured out. Besides, he had no place to experiment with some of the medicinal pills he was researching; going out for training might just provide him with test subjects.
Thus, the two decided to head to the Phantom Moon Forest secret realm to search for their missing fellow disciples.
“Disciple obeys,” the two answered in unison.
Before departing, the Sect Leader prepared enough medicinal pills, magical artifacts, and talismans for them and provided some precautions regarding the secret realm. The next morning, Lu Shi’an took Yuzhao and set out on the journey to the Phantom Moon Forest.
Finally, they reached the entrance of the Phantom Moon Forest secret realm. As soon as they entered, they felt a strong surge of spiritual energy rush toward them, making them feel quite comfortable. At the same time, however, both knew that this place was filled with all sorts of unknown dangers.
“Yuzhao, stay close to me. If you encounter danger, hide behind me,” Lu Shi’an said to Ning Yuzhao with concern. After all, Yuzhao had only just reached the Foundation Establishment stage; even if the Phantom Moon Forest was only a small secret realm, it was still too dangerous for someone at the mid-Foundation Establishment level.
“Yes, Senior Brother, do not worry. I will protect myself,” Ning Yuzhao said, holding onto Lu Shi’an’s sleeve with a serious and solemn face. Seeing Yuzhao’s well-behaved appearance, some of Lu Shi’an’s worry dissipated.
The two proceeded cautiously, remaining vigilant about their surroundings. Suddenly, a demonic beast appeared before them, blocking their path.
“Yuzhao, this is only a Level 3 demonic beast. It is perfect for you to practice with. I will assist you from the side,” Lu Shi’an said, deciding to let Ning Yuzhao handle it since the beast was not a high level.
“Okay, Senior Brother! Leave it to me!” Ning Yuzhao nodded excitedly, looking at the beast with great interest. This was his first time killing a demonic beast, so he had to perform well.
Ning Yuzhao immediately cast a spell, forming ice blades that struck the beast directly. The demonic beast roared and lunged at Ning Yuzhao, but he dodged the attack nimbly and continued his offensive.
Lu Shi’an assisted from the side, occasionally thrusting his sword to inflict damage on the beast while keeping a constant watch on Ning Yuzhao’s safety, ensuring he would not be under too much threat. After a few exchanges, Ning Yuzhao finally found a weak spot. Putting all his strength into one move, he unleashed a powerful ice blade that hit the beast’s vitals.
The demonic beast let out a miserable shriek and collapsed to the ground.
After the battle, Ning Yuzhao jumped up excitedly and rushed to Lu Shi’an, hugging him tightly. He was incoherent with excitement, “Senior Brother, I did it! I actually killed the demonic beast!”
Lu Shi’an also smiled with joy. He patted Ning Yuzhao on the shoulder gently and encouraged him, “Congratulations, Yuzhao! You did great!”
Ning Yuzhao laughed happily, his eyes shining with confidence and joy. Lu Shi’an’s previous worry had not been fake, but fortunately, Yuzhao was excellent and had killed the beast perfectly.
As time passed, they ventured deeper into the Phantom Moon Forest, encountering more and more demonic beasts, each stronger than the last. When they reached the edge of the forest’s depths, they still had not seen any traces of their fellow disciples.
Lu Shi’an furrowed his brow. Since they had searched the outer areas thoroughly without finding any signs, they must have entered the depths of the forest.
However, as they ventured deeper into the secret realm, they unexpectedly encountered a group of people. They were wearing the robes of the Moon Worship Sect, and Lu Shi’an and Ning Yuzhao immediately became guarded. The leader was about twenty-four years old, dressed in blue robes with a sword hanging at his waist.
Seeing Lu Shi’an and Yuzhao, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes. He bowed and saluted, “I am Yun Sheng, a disciple of the Moon Worship Sect. May I ask if the two of you are from the Xuantian Sect?”
Lu Shi’an looked at Ning Yuzhao and they nodded in response, “That is correct. I am Lu Shi’an, and this is my junior brother, Ning Yuzhao.”
Upon hearing the name Lu Shi’an, an expression of surprise appeared on Yun Sheng’s face. He hurriedly bowed, “I have long heard of your name! So you are the genius Lu Shi’an of the Xuantian Sect! I have finally met you today; your name has spread throughout the entire world of cultivation!”
Lu Shi’an smiled slightly and responded politely, “You are too kind, Brother Yun. It is just an empty reputation.”
Yun Sheng shook his head with a smile, “Brother Lu is too modest. Your talent and strength are obvious to all.”
After a few polite exchanges, Lu Shi’an got straight to the point and asked, “May I ask, Brother Yun, what brings you here?”
Yun Sheng sighed, his expression becoming serious, “My junior brother came out for training half a month ago and has yet to return. I have been unable to contact him for many days, so the Sect Leader, fearing something had happened to him, sent us to search for him.”
Lu Shi’an furrowed his brow, pondered for a moment, and then said slowly, “In that case, do you have any clues?”
Yun Sheng shook his head helplessly, “No. We only know the last place he appeared was near this forest, but we cannot determine the exact location.” After speaking, he looked at the two with curiosity, “Could it be that disciples from your sect have gone missing as well?”
Lu Shi’an and Ning Yuzhao exchanged glances, a flicker of worry flashing in their eyes. They told Yun Sheng about their situation.
Upon hearing this, Yun Sheng’s expression darkened, “It seems the situation is worse than we imagined. To think that besides the Moon Worship Sect, disciples from other sects have also gone missing. It seems this matter is not so simple.”
Lu Shi’an nodded in agreement, “Indeed. We must find them as soon as possible, or the consequences could be unthinkable.”
Consequently, the group decided to search for the missing persons together. Along the way, they proceeded cautiously, remaining vigilant at all times and not letting any suspicious signs slip by.
Just as they were moving forward, they suddenly heard the sounds of fighting. Lu Shi’an and Yun Sheng exchanged looks and rushed toward the direction of the noise.
Drawing closer, they discovered a disciple from the Bishui Sect protecting another disciple, surrounded by several Level 4 demonic beasts. Seeing this, Lu Shi’an and Yun Sheng immediately drew their swords and charged into the fray, engaging the beasts in a fierce battle. Ning Yuzhao and the disciples of the Moon Worship Sect also cast their spells to assist in attacking the beasts.
Soon, they drove the demonic beasts away.
The disciple looked at them gratefully and said, “Thank you all for saving my life. My name is Mu Leng, a disciple of the Bishui Sect, and this is my junior brother, Ji Yu.”
Mu Leng stepped aside, revealing the young man he had been protecting behind him.
