- Chapter 11 - Senior Brother, You Must Wake Up!
After taking the Spirit-Nurturing Pill, Lu Shi’an slowly regained consciousness. Seeing the concern on Ning Yuzhao’s face, he stroked the boy’s cheek and said, “Don’t worry, Yuzhao, I am fine. It was just a case of mental exhaustion.”
“Since you are awake, I will send you both on your way,” Daoist Guiyuan said. Seeing that Lu Shi’an had recovered, he prepared to wave his hand and dismiss them.
Lu Shi’an bowed respectfully. “Thank you, Master. Besides my Lightning Spiritual Root, I also possess a Space Spiritual Root. My internal space can house a soul. Would you be willing to come with me and wait until we find a way to resurrect you?”
Having accepted the Daoist’s inheritance, it was only proper to call him Master. Faced with such a pioneer of talisman and formation arts, Lu Shi’an could not bear to see such a great being vanish into nothingness. Furthermore, with Daoist Guiyuan’s guidance, he could avoid many detours in his future cultivation.
Hearing his senior brother reveal the secret of his Space Spiritual Root to the Daoist, Ning Yuzhao looked up in shock, not expecting the secret to be shared so quickly. Space Spiritual Roots were incredibly rare, coming with an internal space capable of holding all things. Cultivators with this root typically possessed immense spatial awareness and control. They could traverse spatial barriers, perform teleportation, and even create their own spatial domains. If word leaked, it would surely lead to a world-wide scramble, which is why only the Master and Yuzhao had known until now.
However, Ning Yuzhao did not object. Given the Daoist’s current state, entering the space was the only way to survive. Since the Daoist was now his senior brother’s master, he was effectively his master as well, so he was more than happy with this arrangement.
“Oh? A Space Spiritual Root? The legendary root capable of holding all things? I did not expect to find a glimmer of hope in you. Very well, I shall go with you and take a look at the cultivation world a thousand years later,” Daoist Guiyuan said, filled with surprise and fortune that he had left this inheritance behind. After all, given the choice, no one truly wants to vanish from this world.
With the Daoist’s consent, Lu Shi’an opened his spiritual sense, allowing Guiyuan to enter his internal space.
The moment Lu Shi’an and Ning Yuzhao reappeared in the Phantom Moon Forest, Yun Sheng and the other Xuantian Sect disciples swarmed around them.
“Junior Brother Lu, where did you go? Did you encounter danger? We were following behind you, but suddenly you vanished.”
“Thank you all for your concern. My junior brother and I accidentally stepped into a formation and were transported elsewhere.”
Lu Shi’an did not mention the inheritance. People’s hearts are unpredictable; if they knew about the legacy, even the superficial harmony would likely vanish. Yun Sheng sensed that Lu Shi’an did not want to elaborate, correctly guessing they had encountered some good fortune. He was not jealous, as such opportunities depended on one’s own destiny. Although curious, he was not the type to pry, so he smiled and said, “As long as you were not in danger, it is fine.”
Yun Sheng wisely refrained from questioning further, but others were not so tactful.
“Senior Brother Lu, did you encounter any treasures inside? Would you mind letting us have a look?” Ji Yu approached. He hadn’t stayed behind out of concern; he simply refused to believe the Wood Spirit had not appeared. When Lu Shi’an and Ning Yuzhao appeared, he had a hunch they had found a new opportunity, so he stayed behind with Mu Leng to wait.
Before Lu Shi’an could answer, Ning Yuzhao rolled his eyes at Ji Yu. “Whether there are treasures or not, what does it have to do with you?” He pointed to Mu Leng. “Your senior brother is right there; stop staring at my senior brother all day.”
Mu Leng felt incredibly awkward. He quickly stopped Ji Yu and apologized to the two juniors: “Junior Brother Lu, Junior Brother Ning, I am sorry. I will take him away now.”
He harbored a secret dissatisfaction toward Ji Yu. When they were in the sect, Ji Yu was obedient and well-liked, but since coming out, he had repeatedly offended others. Most importantly, he had offended the Xuantian Sect, a sect famous for being fiercely protective of its own. Mu Leng decided to keep his distance from Ji Yu in the future, lest he end up dead without knowing why. Lu Shi’an never expected that this training trip would cause the protagonist shou to lose such a loyal lackey.
Ji Yu was unwilling to leave but had no choice. He felt a deep hatred for Ning Yuzhao, who had targeted him repeatedly, and even vented his anger on Mu Leng. What a waste! He had no luck finding treasures, and as a Golden Core cultivator, he was afraid to even offend a Foundation Establishment disciple.
After they left, Yun Sheng also said his goodbyes, “Junior Brother Lu, Junior Brother Yu, let us part ways here. We shall meet again if fate permits!”
After bidding farewell, Lu Shi’an led his fellow disciples back to the sect to report their success.
Lu Shi’an had sent a message to the Sect Leader while leaving the Moon Worship Sect. As soon as they arrived at the sect, they saw the Sect Leader and two uncles waiting in the main hall.
“Shi’an, well done! I knew you would complete this mission perfectly! Were you injured?” The Sect Leader looked at Lu Shi’an with pride as he checked both disciples for injuries.
“Thank you for your concern, Master. Neither Yuzhao nor I are injured,” Lu Shi’an replied respectfully.
Nearby, the two uncles were also checking their own disciples. Once the pleasantries were exchanged, they came over to thank Lu Shi’an. “Shi’an, Yuzhao, thank you both. Otherwise, heaven knows how long those brats would have stayed out there!” They handed Lu Shi’an a spirit boat and said, “This boat can hold ten people. Consider it a thank-you gift.”
Lu Shi’an did not decline, as he did indeed need such a vessel. He had initially planned to gather materials and commission a smith, but he had obtained one much sooner than expected.
After bidding the uncles farewell, they parted with the Sect Leader and returned to their courtyard. Back in the room, Ning Yuzhao quickly opened his storage ring and produced a mountain of magical artifacts as if offering a gift.
“Senior Brother, hurry and put these into your space! Once you take them, I will pull out the rest; they are all for you!”
Looking at the mountain of artifacts, Lu Shi’an massaged his temples and smiled helplessly. “Put them back. I have my own artifacts and my cultivation is higher, so I have the means to protect myself. Keep these; you can use them to defend yourself when necessary.”
Ning Yuzhao shook his head and acted spoiled: “No, Senior Brother. I want to give them all to you! Besides, I follow you everywhere; you can protect me!”
Lu Shi’an considered this and realized he was right; Ning Yuzhao was always by his side. “I will accept them, but we split them—half for you and half for me. Otherwise, I will take none.” Although he could protect Yuzhao, there were always blind spots, so it was safer for the boy to have his own gear.
“Fine,” Ning Yuzhao sighed, seeing Lu Shi’an’s firm stance.
After dividing the items, Lu Shi’an looked at Ning Yuzhao. “Yuzhao, close your eyes.”
Ning Yuzhao tilted his head. He did not know why, but he obeyed. Lu Shi’an took out the Wood Spirit and held it in his palm. Looking at Ning Yuzhao, whose eyelashes were fluttering shut, he smiled: “Open your eyes.”
“Senior Brother, what is this?” As soon as Ning Yuzhao opened his eyes, he was blinded by the verdant glow.
“The Wood Spirit,” Lu Shi’an replied, recounting how he had obtained it.
Ning Yuzhao was astonished. “The Wood Spirit? Is this the treasure Ji Yu was looking for?”
Lu Shi’an nodded.
“Hahaha! Ji Yu will never guess that the treasure he obsessed over was snatched by someone else long ago!” Ning Yuzhao laughed, his eyes flashing with cunning.
“Yuzhao, go ahead and contract with it,” Lu Shi’an urged.
“No, no! Senior Brother, you obtained it; I cannot take it!” Ning Yuzhao shook his head vigorously.
Seeing Ning Yuzhao’s refusal, Lu Shi’an explained: “The Wood Spirit is extremely beneficial for alchemy; it increases the success rate and quality of pills. I am not an alchemist, so it is useless to me. Besides, I took it specifically for you.”
Thinking that his senior brother did not practice alchemy and truly had no use for it, Ning Yuzhao accepted it and declared generously, “Senior Brother, all the pills I refine in the future will be yours. I will refine the best pills in the world for you!”
“Very well, I look forward to your pills.”
As Ning Yuzhao thought about how the treasure Ji Yu obsessed over had been gifted to him by his senior brother, he felt like rolling on the floor in excitement. His senior brother truly loved him the most, and he loved his senior brother the most!
