- After Transmigrating into an ABO World with My Rival
- Chapter 13 - Making a New Friend
Business socializing is the most boring thing in the world. Chen Yanzhi ate a few bites of food and then slipped into a bored daze.
Fortunately, the business partner had brought his son along, a beautiful Omega the same age as Chen Yanzhi. This was Chen Yanzhi’s first time interacting with an Omega, and he observed the boy across from him with curiosity, marveling at how pretty Omegas were, with their delicate, almost androgynous features.
However, based on the business partner’s tone, it seemed he wanted to introduce his son to Fu Tingyue; he kept probing about the nature of the relationship between Chen Yanzhi and Fu Tingyue. Chen Yanzhi had zero interest in such matters. He played with his fingers listlessly, his gaze drifting toward the exit every now and then. He wanted to go out and play, but he was worried Fu Tingyue would be unhappy.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, Fu Tingyue’s gentle voice reached his ear. “If you’re bored, you can go out and play. I’ll come find you when we’re finished.”
Chen Yanzhi’s eyes lit up instantly. “Can I?”
Fu Tingyue nodded with a smile. “You can, but stay safe.”
“Then I’m off. Just message me when you’re done.”
As Chen Yanzhi rose to leave, the Omega across from him asked expectantly, “Can I come with you?”
Even though they had not spoken, Chen Yanzhi could tell the Omega did not want to be there either. He did not answer immediately but glanced at Fu Tingyue, wordlessly asking for permission.
Fu Tingyue smiled and asked the middle-aged man across from him, “What do you think, Mr. Lin?”
Lin Xiangcheng had originally intended to introduce his son to Fu Tingyue, but seeing the current situation, he realized there was no chance. However, observing Fu Tingyue’s attitude toward this handsome Beta, it was clear their relationship was far from ordinary. It might be a good idea for his son to get close to Chen Yanzhi instead.
“Of course. They’re bored sitting here anyway; people their age have more to talk about.” Lin Xiangcheng smiled at his son. “Xiaobai, don’t cause any trouble for Mr. Chen.”
The beautiful Omega nodded happily. “Okay.”
Chen Yanzhi exchanged a look with Fu Tingyue and smiled at Lin Xubai. “Let’s go.”
Lin Xubai followed Chen Yanzhi out enthusiastically, while Fu Tingyue and the others continued their business discussion.
Chen Yanzhi was not familiar with this area, and with his poor sense of direction, he was quickly walking in circles. Just as he was about to ask someone for directions, Lin Xubai’s gentle voice came from beside him. “Mr. Chen, this way.”
Noticing Lin Xubai’s familiarity with the place, Chen Yanzhi could not help but ask, “Do you come here often?”
Lin Xubai replied shyly, “I’ve accompanied my father here a few times.”
Once they entered the elevator, Chen Yanzhi asked, “So, where are we going to play?” Since the boy was familiar with the place, he ought to know where the fun was.
The beautiful Omega blinked his large eyes as he thought for a moment, then a bright smile touched his lips. “There’s an arcade downstairs, along with many other entertainment facilities. Would you like to check it out?”
Chen Yanzhi did not hide his admiration at all. He said bluntly to Lin Xubai, “You’re really good-looking.” Are all Omegas in this world this attractive?
Lin Xubai was stunned. When he realized what had been said, his pretty face flushed a deep red, the color spreading all the way to his ears and neck. He nervously clenched his fists and lowered his head. “Thank you. You’re very handsome too.”
Chen Yanzhi was the best-looking Beta he had ever seen. For a moment, he had assumed Chen Yanzhi was an Omega, but there was no scent of pheromones on him. Or rather, that was not quite right; he carried a very strong scent of Fu Tingyue’s pheromones.
Thinking of this, Lin Xubai could not help but speak up. “Mr. Chen,”
Chen Yanzhi waved a hand to interrupt. “No need to be so formal. We’re about the same age. Being called Mr. makes me feel old. Just use my name.” He was still just an eighteen-year-old kid at heart; being called Mr. left and right felt awkward.
Lin Xubai’s cheeks remained red. He looked at Chen Yanzhi expectantly. “Then, can I call you Yanzhi?”
Chen Yanzhi smiled and patted Lin Xubai’s shoulder, completely forgetting the other boy was an Omega. “Of course. Then I won’t be formal with you either. How about I call you Xiaobai from now on?”
Chen Yanzhi had always lived by the principle of making friends rather than enemies, which was why he had so many friends. Besides, Lin Xubai seemed like a nice person: gentle and mild; and Chen Yanzhi did not dislike him.
Lin Xubai glanced at the hand on his shoulder and nodded happily. “Okay.” He stole a glance at Chen Yanzhi and asked tentatively, “Yanzhi, what is your relationship with President Fu? Is it okay to tell me?”
The pheromones on Chen Yanzhi were so thick that it was not hard to guess his relationship with Fu Tingyue, but Lin Xubai wanted to hear it from Chen Yanzhi himself. He braced himself for the answer, only to hear Chen Yanzhi say, “Best friends.”
Lin Xubai froze, his voice rising involuntarily. “Best friends?”
Chen Yanzhi stepped out of the elevator before answering. “Yeah. Why?”
Lin Xubai hurried to catch up, keeping a small distance between them. “You’re covered in the scent of his pheromones. I thought you were a couple.” A Top Alpha’s pheromones were too oppressive; being too close to Chen Yanzhi made him feel a bit uncomfortable.
Chen Yanzhi lifted his arm and sniffed, smelling nothing. “Oh. We live together; I probably just picked it up by accident.”
Lin Xubai knew Chen Yanzhi had no reason to lie, but simply living together would not result in such a heavy scent. The only possibility was that the Alpha was intentionally releasing them, and Chen Yanzhi simply had not noticed.
Noticing Lin Xubai had fallen behind, Chen Yanzhi stopped and asked, “Is something wrong?”
Lin Xubai pushed aside his wandering thoughts and looked up with a smile. “Nothing. What do you want to play?”
A hint of excitement gleamed in Chen Yanzhi’s eyes. He scanned the area and said, “Let’s go to the arcade first. It’s been a long time.” He wondered if the arcades here were different from the ones back home.
As it turned out, they were exactly the same. Chen Yanzhi dove into the VR room and had a blast. Lin Xubai, who had been raised like a hothouse flower, was unfamiliar with these things. At first, he could not figure it out at all, but Chen Yanzhi patiently taught him until he got the hang of it.
It was not just that; there were many things Lin Xubai did not know how to play. Chen Yanzhi, happy to have a new friend, spent nearly two hours showing him around. When they grew tired, he took Lin Xubai to the quiet bar next door for a drink, and he sent a photo to Fu Tingyue telling him to come find him there when he was done.
Since Lin Xubai was an Omega, they booked a private room. Lin Xubai took a sip of his orange juice and looked at Chen Yanzhi with admiration. “Yanzhi, you’re so good at everything. You’re amazing.” Even though they were the same age, Chen Yanzhi knew how to do everything and played all the games so well.
Chen Yanzhi laughed. “It’s not hard. You’re just trying it for the first time.” He was surprised that despite Lin Xubai’s wealthy background, he had never touched a game console in his life.
Lin Xubai lowered his head bashfully, his tone light. “My mother did not let me play these things. She said an Omega should learn to cook and manage a household so they won’t be disliked after they get married.”
Chen Yanzhi’s focus was elsewhere. “Then your cooking must be delicious!”
Lin Xubai had felt a bit awkward, but hearing Chen Yanzhi’s comment, he blinked in surprise. A broad smile spread across his face. “I’ll have to let you taste my cooking sometime.”
Chen Yanzhi did not stand on ceremony. “Sure! And I’ll take you to play games again next time. I’m only good at eating, drinking, and playing.”
Lin Xubai agreed immediately. Initially, he had just wanted to get some fresh air, but he had not expected them to get along so well. Chen Yanzhi seemed unapproachable at first, but he was actually very kind. Lin Xubai had not expected him to offer comfort by praising his cooking. He had always felt his parents were unfair for only wanting him to enter a political marriage, but today, he was briefly grateful to his past self for being forced to learn how to cook. Because Chen Yanzhi wanted to taste his food, it meant they would see each other again. Lin Xubai did not have many friends, but he felt very relaxed around Chen Yanzhi.
Chen Yanzhi felt a bit awkward under Lin Xubai’s gaze. Just as he was about to speak to break the ice, the door to the private room was pushed open. A tall male student burst in with a look of joy. “Xiaobai! It really is you! Why have you been ignoring me lately? Did I do something wrong?”
Chen Yanzhi was about to ask if it was someone he knew, but he saw Lin Xubai turn pale, his gentle expression replaced by terror and tension. Seeing the waiter could not stop the person at the door, Chen Yanzhi decisively stood up and walked over. Smelling the heavy scent of alcohol on the guy, he frowned and asked, “Who are you?”
The student shoved the waiter aside, his face full of hostility. “None of your business! I’m looking for Xiaobai. Who the hell do you think you are?”
The guy was tall and clearly an Alpha. He looked past Chen Yanzhi at Lin Xubai with a look of distress. “Xiaobai, why aren’t you answering my calls? I’ve been looking for you for days. Are you angry about what happened before? I did not mean it! My mind was not clear because of my Rut. I did not mean to treat you like that, but I really like you. Can you give me a chance?”
Chen Yanzhi turned to Lin Xubai. “Is he your friend?”
Lin Xubai was shaking all over. He said to Chen Yanzhi in terror, “No. He, he has been harassing me. He even used his Rut as an excuse to try to”
If he had not run away with all his might, he might have been marked already.
Hearing this and combining it with the Alpha’s words, Chen Yanzhi pieced together the situation. His expression turned cold instantly. He said tonelessly to the guy, “I’m sorry. This is our private room. Please leave.”
“Who the hell do you think”
Before the guy could finish, Chen Yanzhi swung a fist and landed a blow on his face, breaking his nose. The Alpha clutched his nose and crouched on the ground, howling in pain, which quickly drew the attention of others.
The waiter had not expected Chen Yanzhi to act so suddenly. Once he recovered, he hurried to hold Chen Yanzhi back to prevent further violence. Other waiters arrived and grabbed the Alpha to keep him from retaliating. Hearing the Alpha’s vulgar and ugly insults, Chen Yanzhi calmly straightened his clothes and parted his lips. “Trash.”
Lin Xubai watched Chen Yanzhi’s back, his fear transforming into a racing heart. For the first time in his life, someone was protecting him like this, and it was a Beta.
The Alpha shouted that he would make Chen Yanzhi pay and that he would rot in prison. He hurled vile insults at both Chen Yanzhi and Lin Xubai, fabricating lies about what they were doing in the room. Each insult was filthier than the last, becoming absolutely unbearable to hear.
Fu Tingyue arrived just in time to hear these words. He frowned in displeasure and walked over, just in time to see Chen Yanzhi shove the waiter aside and lunge forward to beat the Alpha again. The scene instantly dissolved into chaos.
Seeing the waiters about to grab Chen Yanzhi by the waist, Fu Tingyue strode forward, scooped Chen Yanzhi up by the waist, and pulled him away from the crowd. He gave the soft flesh of Chen Yanzhi’s waist a reassuring squeeze. “Alright. Stop hitting him.”
Chen Yanzhi flailed in the air, muttering a few curses under his breath, clearly still fuming.
