After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 77
Cheng Jianli woke up at eleven o’clock at night.
She opened her eyes groggily, feeling incredibly comfortable under the thick, warm blankets in Jiang Muyan’s room. The heater was on full blast, and the heavy quilt wrapped around her like a cocoon of security.
Yet within minutes, fragmented memories began flooding back into her mind.
In that cramped, stifling space, she and Jiang Muyan had been so close they could hear each other’s breathing and heartbeats. The dim lighting hadn’t stopped Jiang Muyan from teasing the most delicate, flushed peaks of snow, her fingers tracing slow, teasing circles.
Especially when Cheng Jianli had turned over Jiang Muyan had immediately cupped her from behind, keeping them from bouncing freely in the open air.
At the thought, Cheng Jianli glanced down and realized she was now wearing a camisole.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t very long. Even sitting up, it barely covered her waistline.
Cheng Jianli: “…”
About today’s events, she had only one thought.
Just what kind of rogue was Jiang Muyan, exactly?
Her face still carried the faint flush of her heat. Just as she was about to get up and grab the hoodie Jiang Muyan had left on the sofa, she heard a soft, drowsy murmur from the desk.
A sliver of light pierced through the darkness.
Jiang Muyan opened her eyes, blearily noticing that the rain outside had finally stopped, leaving only droplets sliding down the windowpane.
The sky held no stars, no moon just an expanse of pitch-black clouds.
She turned her head and immediately met Cheng Jianli’s gaze.
Jiang Muyan jolted awake, her face lighting up. “Ah, Teacher Cheng, you’re awake!”
Cheng Jianli silently curled her legs in. “Mhm.”
Jiang Muyan took in her freshly awakened appearance fluffy, slightly tousled hair, soft bangs swept to either side of her forehead, making her look unbearably adorable.
She walked over and asked, “You accidentally went into heat this afternoon. Are you feeling better now?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “I’m fine.”
Jiang Muyan exhaled in relief. “That’s good.” She scratched her head, then added, “I gave you a temporary mark.”
The sensation had been pleasant, but having it mentioned so casually still made Cheng Jianli uneasy.
Jiang Muyan asked, “Do you still feel any lingering heat?”
Cheng Jianli shook her head. “No.”
Jiang Muyan nodded happily, then shyly ventured, “Then, do you remember what you promised me in the closet?”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
As if she could forget.
Her face burned. She evaded the question. “We’ll talk about it later. I’m hungry, I want something to eat.”
Jiang Muyan immediately perked up. “Oh, right! You haven’t eaten at all. I’ll go downstairs and grab something for you.”
Cheng Jianli asked, “Are my clothes dry yet?”
Jiang Muyan shook her head. “Not yet.”
Cheng Jianli sighed. “Alright.”
Jiang Muyan suggested, “Wear my hoodie.”
She retrieved her expensive gray sweatshirt from the sofa.
As she approached, the rich scent of roses, Cheng Jianli’s pheromones filled the air. A little bashfully, Jiang Muyan murmured, “Teacher Cheng, you smell just like me now.”
Cheng Jianli could sense it too the overwhelming alpha presence clinging to her was impossible to ignore.
Cheng Jianli: “Mhm.”
“So sweet,” Jiang Muyan leaned in, nuzzling against her neck and inhaling deeply. “Teacher Cheng, you smell amazing.”
Cheng Jianli’s neck felt ticklish from Jiang Muyan’s touch, and she softly said, “Alright.”
Jiang Muyan looked up, her eyes sparkling. “What would you like to eat? The kitchen made chicken soup today, along with cornbread, braised chicken wings, cheese shrimp balls, and century egg with lean pork congee. Should I bring you some of each?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “I don’t want to eat too much.”
“Then I’ll serve you smaller portions. Wait for me,” Jiang Muyan said before quickly running downstairs.
When Jiang Muyan returned with the tray and pushed open the door, Cheng Jianli was already seated at the desk.
She was memorizing English vocabulary. Cheng Jianli preferred learning words by their roots since sophomore year, she’d bought a comprehensive dictionary dedicated to English etymology and studied two units daily.
Jiang Muyan marveled at her dedication. Even during her fever recovery, Cheng Jianli immediately resumed studying. Jiang Muyan knew she could never maintain such discipline.
Cheng Jianli still wore only Jiang Muyan’s hoodie, her rounded knees bending over the chair edge, accentuating her slender legs and delicate, snow-white ankles.
Collecting herself, Jiang Muyan said, “Teacher Cheng, have some soup first.”
Turning around, Cheng Jianli accepted the tray. “Thanks.”
Jiang Muyan sat beside her, watching her eat. Under prolonged observation, Cheng Jianli grew flustered and pushed the cheese shrimp balls toward her with a frown.
Jiang Muyan: “?”
“Do you want some?” Cheng Jianli asked.
“No, I already had dinner.”
“Then why keep staring?” Cheng Jianli’s flawless face glowed in the amber light. “Do you have something to say?”
Blushing instantly, Jiang Muyan admitted, “You’re so perceptive, Teacher Cheng.”
Truly worthy of being her wife.
Cheng Jianli: “Otherwise why would you stare? There aren’t words on my face.”
“Ask quickly,” Cheng Jianli said. “Keep it under ten minutes.”
That time limit sounded familiar, Jiang Muyan recalled Cheng Jianli saying the same when she’d stared during homework sessions.
Hesitantly, Jiang Muyan asked, “I just wanted to confirm, did today’s temporary mark affect you at all?”
Cheng Jianli arched her elegant brows. “Didn’t you already ask?”
“For thoroughness, I thought I should verify.”
“No effect. It’s just a temporary mark anyone could do it.”
“Anyone?!” Jiang Muyan froze.
“Of course,” Cheng Jianli said matter-of-factly. “As an omega, any alpha could temporarily mark me.”
“You absolutely mustn’t let others do that!” Jiang Muyan interjected urgently.
Cheng Jianli: “?”
“What’s wrong?”
“You were barely conscious earlier! What if someone took advantage?”
Amused though she’d never actually consider it, Cheng Jianli teased, “Yet you marked me. Why is it okay for you but not other alphas?”
“I’m different!” Jiang Muyan insisted. “I have no impure intentions toward you.”
“Really?” Cheng Jianli deadpanned. “Then who was it whose eyes lit up when I said you could touch me all night?”
Thanks to Jiang Muyan, Cheng Jianli had reached the point where she could shamelessly say embarrassing things during her heat cycle without batting an eye.
Jiang Muyan: “…”
“B-but even if you won’t let me touch you, I’d still definitely help you,” Jiang Muyan stammered, carefully coaxing after being rendered speechless by Cheng Jianli’s words. “You really shouldn’t get a temporary mark from some other alpha, okay? I’d be upset.” After a moment’s thought, she added timidly, “And I’d get mad at you.”
Cheng Jianli was surprised. “Mad at me?”
Jiang Muyan looked up at the ceiling, slightly conflicted. “Yeah.”
Cheng Jianli had never seen Jiang Muyan get angry with her before. “How would you get mad?”
Jiang Muyan said, “I haven’t figured that out yet.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
“Sometimes you really overthink things,” Cheng Jianli said. “I wouldn’t just casually find some alpha to give me a temporary mark. Today was an emergency.”
Jiang Muyan asked, “Really?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “Do I seem that careless to you?”
Jiang Muyan answered honestly, “No.”
“Then that settles it,” Cheng Jianli said.
“But I still worry about you,” Jiang Muyan insisted. “Not everyone has self-control as good as mine.”
Cheng Jianli’s eyelid twitched. “You have self-control?”
“Of course!”
“If you hadn’t squeezed there while marking me, I might have believed that,” Cheng Jianli said calmly.
The tingling sensation from her fingertips still lingered. Jiang Muyan mumbled, “I was wrong, but you really shouldn’t look for another alpha. Just come to me.”
The thought of another alpha seeing Cheng Jianli like this made her feel like she’d rather be stabbed.
Cheng Jianli frowned deeply. “You really mean that? Come to you?”
Jiang Muyan nodded seriously. “Yeah.”
“Anytime?”
Jiang Muyan scratched her head. “Whenever you need me, I’ll be there.”
“I’ll think about it,” Cheng Jianli said.
“Why think about it? We’re a perfect match!” Jiang Muyan declared.
When she said “perfect match,” her expression remained completely innocent and guileless. It was precisely because of this utterly non-threatening demeanor that Cheng Jianli couldn’t begin to guess what was going on in Jiang Muyan’s mind.
As if being her “tool” to get through her heat could somehow be a purely innocent arrangement.
When Cheng Jianli stayed silent, Jiang Muyan added, “Teacher Cheng, I’m such an upright person. Don’t you trust me?”
“I do,” Cheng Jianli said. “But let me think it over. I’ve told you before sometimes you make me nervous.”
Afraid Jiang Muyan might misunderstand, she quickly added, “That’s my own issue. It’s not your fault.”
Jiang Muyan let out an “Oh,” then considerately said, “Then take your time. Oh, by the way, are you gonna finish your cheese shrimp balls? I wanna eat them.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Expressionless, she pushed the plate over. “Go ahead.”
Jiang Muyan happily took it, munching away while working on her math homework. Cheng Jianli watched her, wondering had she misunderstood?
When an alpha told an omega they could come to them during their heat, anyone would assume it was an invitation to bed.
But coming from Jiang Muyan’s mouth, Cheng Jianli didn’t get that impression at all.
Jiang Muyan’s feelings toward her were something Cheng Jianli couldn’t comprehend. On one hand, she wouldn’t allow any other alpha to mark her, yet she displayed an unexpectedly sincere and upright demeanor toward her.
Cheng Jianli had never been in a relationship before, so she didn’t know what to make of it.
She found herself tangled in this confusing emotional state, unable to break free.
When night fell, Cheng Jianli didn’t leave Jiang Muyan’s room.
Since she didn’t have any sleepwear, she planned to sleep in just her tank top. Jiang Muyan brought over two pillows and two blankets, earnestly inviting her, “Want to sleep together, Teacher Cheng?”
Cheng Jianli glanced at her. “Mm.”
Jiang Muyan’s bed was a double. They had napped together at Cheng Jianli’s place before, so there was no need to be awkward about it. Besides, with her clothes in the wash, she couldn’t exactly leave like this anyway.
Knowing Cheng Jianli wasn’t much of a talker, Jiang Muyan just rubbed the back of her head and lay down beside her.
The ceiling was blue, and the bedside lamp cast a dim glow, it would automatically turn off in fifteen minutes. Jiang Muyan rolled onto her side and called out, “Teacher Cheng.”
Cheng Jianli responded, “What is it?”
Jiang Muyan said, “I feel like you’ve been in a bad mood since dinner. Is something bothering you?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “Not really.”
Jiang Muyan pressed, “If there’s something on your mind, you can tell me.”
As she spoke, she scooted closer, nearly bridging the gap between their two pillows.
“Nothing,” Cheng Jianli said, watching Jiang Muyan’s earnest, concerned expression. Mixed with the events of the afternoon, she felt inexplicably irritated. Casually, she asked, “Want to touch?”
Jiang Muyan blinked. “Huh?”
Cheng Jianli said, “Give me your hand.”
Jiang Muyan laughed. “That’s so sudden.”
Cheng Jianli replied, “No second chances.”
Immediately, Jiang Muyan’s hand slipped under the blanket, fingers brushing lightly against the thin white fabric of her tank top just for a couple of seconds before pulling back. Then, with a silly grin, she giggled. “Heh.”
