After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 47
The next day, Uncle Liu drove Jiang Muyan and Cheng Jianli to school together.
Jiang Muyan opened the car door for Cheng Jianli and said gently, “Teacher Cheng, after school tonight, I’ll go with you to your place to pack your things.”
Uncle Liu, fastening his seatbelt in the driver’s seat, smiled and said, “I’ll tag along too.”
Cheng Jianli nodded. “I don’t have much stuff. It shouldn’t take long.”
Jiang Muyan beamed. “The main thing is keeping you company.”
The sapphire-blue Bentley swiftly navigated through the streets, soon arriving at the school.
Cheng Jianli gazed out the window at the fleeting crowds, her mind drifting to what Jiang Muyan had told her the day before.
She never imagined her uncle could be so depraved selling his own newborn daughter just to have a son.
And her father, knowing full well that Zhang Siyuan was technically her cousin, still wanted to marry her off to him.
When Cheng Jianli learned all this, she felt nothing but deep disgust and nausea.
She loathed Zhang Siyuan. Back when her family farmed, she had to harvest wheat under the scorching sun while he got to stay home and rest. Her grandmother had tried to spare Cheng Jianli from labor, urging her to study instead, only to be stopped by Cheng Tianwei and Zhang Qiang, who insisted that girls had no use for education and should start working to earn money as soon as possible.
She felt not an ounce of affection for that family except for her grandmother.
At the thought, her eyes shimmered like a pool of crystal-clear water.
But, she wondered how her grandmother was doing now.
Cheng Jianli was as still as a painting when lost in thought. Silently, she reflected that although she had tutored middle schoolers during her first two years of high school and sent most of her earnings to her grandmother, the elderly woman’s health was frail. If Zhang Qiang really got into trouble, should she bring her grandmother here?
Her grandmother was getting old, didn’t know how to use a smartphone, and had even given her only basic phone to Cheng Jianli. Her sole wish was to see her granddaughter get into a good university.
Cheng Jianli remained silent the entire ride. Noticing her quietness, Jiang Muyan asked curiously, “Teacher Cheng, what’s on your mind?”
Snapping out of her thoughts, Cheng Jianli’s eyes flickered faintly as she replied softly, “Nothing much. I was just thinking, if I move in with you, what will happen to my grandmother’s house? I haven’t seen her in a long time.”
Jiang Muyan leaned closer, perceptive as ever. “Do you miss her?”
Cheng Jianli looked up. “Yes. Before starting high school, I wanted her to come to the city with me so I could take care of her, but she refused.”
Jiang Muyan said, “Elderly people are often reluctant to leave their hometowns.”
“I know,” Cheng Jianli replied. “But Zhang Qiang’s situation will definitely affect her…”
“Don’t worry, Teacher Cheng. If you really miss her, we can bring her here.”
Cheng Jianli paused. “Bring her here?”
“Of course,” Jiang Muyan said. “Since you’re moving in with me, your grandmother’s house will be empty. We can have her stay there, and you can visit her on weekends.”
“If she still doesn’t adjust to city life after a while, I’ll have Uncle Liu take her back safely.” Jiang Muyan smiled warmly, having thought everything through for Cheng Jianli.
After hearing this, Cheng Jianli thought for a moment and said, “I need to go back and ask the auntie next door.”
“The auntie next door?”
Cheng Jianli nodded lightly. “My dad and uncle were always trying to take money from home. When I was here alone for tutoring, I’d send part of my earnings back. I was afraid the money I sent to my grandma would be taken by them, so I redirected it to the auntie next door and had her give it to my grandma instead.”
“This way, I could also find out how my grandma was doing through her, without having to contact my family.”
“So that’s how it was.” Jiang Muyan suddenly understood. Only now did she realize Cheng Jianli had wanted to cut ties with those people from that time.
But it made sense. An uncle who sold his own niece, a greedy father, and a lazy cousin, no one could tolerate such a family.
It was truly remarkable that Cheng Jianli managed to get into high school despite coming from such a family.
Hongchuan Seventh High School.
As soon as Jiang Muyan and Cheng Jianli stepped through the school gates, they felt people staring at them. The gazes lingered on the two of them, somewhat strange.
“What is everyone looking at?” Jiang Muyan, puzzled, moved closer to Cheng Jianli.
Suddenly, a girl rushed over from ahead. “Class rep!”
This girl was from Class 2. Seeing her anxious expression, Cheng Jianli frowned and asked, “What’s wrong?”
The girl panted heavily. “Your dad and uncle are at the academic affairs office looking for you! They’re saying you have to get Zhang Siyuan’s punishment revoked something about cheating!”
Jiang Muyan froze. “What? Zhang Qiang and Cheng Tianwei came to the school?!”
Cheng Jianli had known Cheng Tianwei and Zhang Qiang would eventually come from the countryside, but she hadn’t expected it to be today.
Calmly, she said, “There’s no way I’m going to the academic affairs office to help Zhang Siyuan get his punishment revoked.”
The girl worriedly added, “But your dad and uncle are already causing a huge scene there. So many teachers are trying to stop them, but they can’t hold them back…”
After a brief moment of thought, Cheng Jianli said, “Alright, then I’ll call the police first.”
“I’ll also let Uncle Liu know.” Jiang Muyan immediately thought of how Uncle Liu had already reported them to the police last night.
Regarding Zhang Qiang’s past crime of secretly selling his daughter, the police must have gone to his village to investigate. But no one expected Zhang Qiang to act so quickly and come straight to the school.
From the looks of it, Zhang Qiang still didn’t know that his crime of selling his own daughter had been completely exposed. The police already had witnesses, they just needed to be informed that Zhang Qiang was here.
So Jiang Muyan quickly messaged Uncle Liu to relay the information. But just as she sent the message, a man stormed out of the teaching building, his face livid, followed by the dean and several teachers.
This man was Zhang Qiang, Cheng Jianli’s uncle. Behind him was Cheng Tianwei, clearly drunk, reeking of alcohol, his features bearing some resemblance to Cheng Jianli’s.
No one managed to stop Zhang Qiang as he charged forward. He was shorter than 1.75 meters, his face covered in pockmarks, his skin dark. The most striking feature was his eyes, but with age, his eyelids had sunk deeply, making him look somewhat terrifying.
Zhang Qiang immediately spotted Cheng Jianli standing at the center of the playground and charged over, pointing at her and yelling, “Cheng Jianli! How dare you harm your own cousin! Have you no conscience?!”
Jiang Muyan quickly stepped in front of Cheng Jianli, shielding her from Zhang Qiang’s aggressive demeanor.
Jiang Muyan said coldly, “Watch your language. This is a school, not your home!”
The dean, who had caught up, frowned and said, “Sir, please don’t start by yelling at the child. We understand you don’t want your child to have a disciplinary record, but cheating was indeed Zhang Siyuan’s mistake. It’s only fair that it’s noted in his file…”
Zhang Qiang shouted, “Siyuan is so obedient, how could he possibly cheat?! He’s just a child!”
Zhang Wen, the homeroom teacher of Class 2, stepped forward and said, “Sir, you’ve misunderstood. Zhang Siyuan wasn’t involved in cheating, he framed Cheng Jianli for it.”
“I’m Cheng Jianli’s uncle, do you think I don’t know her tricks?!” Zhang Qiang seemed to have heard the full story but insisted it was Cheng Jianli’s doing. He raised his voice defiantly, “Tianwei, come here! You’re Cheng Jianli’s father you have the right to make her withdraw Siyuan’s punishment!”
His shouts drew the attention of all the surrounding students, who began murmuring in shock.
“Who? Cheng Jianli’s father?”
“Doesn’t Cheng Jianli live alone? Since when does she have a father?”
“Even if she does, we’ve never seen him. He’s never come to a single parent-teacher meeting.”
“Damn, not even showing up for parent-teacher meetings? What kind of father is that?”
“Thank goodness Cheng Jianli is smart. What’s the point of having a father like that…”
Cheng Tianwei stepped out from the crowd, oblivious to the noise around him. His face was flushed red from heavy drinking, and the smell of alcohol clung to him.
In a commanding tone, he said, “Cheng Jianli, go to the administration office right now and withdraw your cousin’s punishment!”
Cheng Jianli had been standing behind Jiang Muyan, but upon hearing Cheng Tianwei’s voice, her emotions inexplicably grew even calmer.
She replied, “Zhang Siyuan must take responsibility for his own actions. I won’t withdraw his punishment.”
Cheng Tianwei’s eyes widened in disbelief. After two years of not seeing her, she was still as stubborn and cold as ever. He grew even more unreasonable. “Do you need a beating? Think you’re something special just because you got into high school? You haven’t come home once in two years, do you really think you’re independent now?! Let me remind you, I’m your father! You have to listen to me!”
Jiang Muyan couldn’t take it anymore and snapped, “Why should she listen to you? Are you even fit to be a father? We all know you refused to pay her tuition and tried to stop her from attending high school! If Cheng Jianli had listened to you, she wouldn’t even be here studying!”
Cheng Tianwei retorted, “Who the hell are you?! So what if I didn’t want her in high school?! Cheng Jianli is my daughter, what’s it to you?!”
Jiang Muyan angrily shot back, “You don’t deserve a daughter like her! Cheng Jianli told me you didn’t want her to study because you favor sons over daughters! You even wanted to marry her off to Zhang Siyuan so she could earn money to buy him a house!”
The moment these words were spoken, all the teachers and students were stunned.
“Seriously? What era is this? Making a daughter earn money for her son’s house?”
“With Cheng Jianli’s academic excellence, it should be Zhang Siyuan buying her a house…”
“Exactly! And Zhang Siyuan even framed others for cheating with Xiao Lei, how shameless!”
“Zhang Siyuan and Cheng Jianli are cousins! Does her father want them to marry? That’s terrifying!”
The students buzzed with disdainful remarks about the family. Seeing Jiang Muyan’s aggressive stance and the situation spiraling, Zhang Qiang’s anger flared uncontrollably.
He roared, “Stop twisting the facts! Cheng Jianli, if you don’t revoke my son’s disciplinary record today, you’ll regret it!”
Jiang Muyan retorted, “So be it. Cheng Jianli has nothing to hide, she wasn’t the one framing others for cheating; your son was.”
“You!” Zhang Qiang trembled with rage.
As he lunged forward, Jiang Muyan immediately shouted, “Teacher! Someone’s trying to assault a student on campus!”
The PE teacher swiftly restrained Zhang Qiang, frowning. “What are you doing? I’ll call the police if you lay a hand on any student.”
Zhang Qiang glared at Jiang Muyan, teeth clenched, and shoved the teacher aside.
Cheng Tianwei, here solely to help his nephew overturn the punishment, ignored Jiang Muyan. Turning to the dean, he said, “I’m Cheng Jianli’s father. I have the right to decide for her. Let’s drop the matter with Zhang Siyuan and remove the disciplinary record from his file.”
Cheng Jianli calmly interjected, “Teacher, I disagree.”
The dean nodded. “Without the involved party’s consent, we can’t revoke the punishment.” His brow furrowed as he addressed Cheng Tianwei. “Moreover, as her father, you should be concerned about the psychological impact of her being falsely accused of cheating, not blaming her. You’re failing as a parent.”
Cheng Tianwei seethed. “This daughter of mine never listens! I told her to start working in a factory after middle school, but she couldn’t understand our parental devotion and ran away from home!”
Jiang Muyan fired back, “That’s a lie! You never cared about Cheng Jianli’s future, you wanted her to work and buy a house for Zhang Siyuan, then marry him later!”
Cheng Tianwei’s expression darkened before he sneered, “I’ve been meaning to ask, who are you? How dare you spout nonsense? Zhang Siyuan and my daughter are relatives. Why would I arrange their marriage?”
Jiang Muyan’s voice turned icy. “Because Zhang Siyuan and Cheng Jianli aren’t blood-related.”
The crowd gasped as if uncovering a bombshell. Even Zhang Qiang froze, standing abruptly. “What nonsense! Zhang Siyuan is my son, Cheng Jianli is Cheng Tianwei’s daughter, how could they not be related?”
Jiang Muyan checked her watch calmly. “The police will be here in minutes. You won’t escape then.”
Zhang Qiang gaped, bewildered by how Jiang Muyan knew the truth. He blustered, “Stop your crap! Zhang Siyuan is my son, the only heir of the Zhang family!”
He then grabbed Cheng Jianli’s arm. “Come with me now to apologize to your cousin!”
Jiang Muyan took one look and immediately pushed Zhang Qiang aside, shielding Cheng Jianli behind her. “Apologize? Zhang Siyuan should be the one apologizing to Cheng Jianli!”
“You dare stop me?” Zhang Qiang was furious, his back teeth grinding in anger.
The rage in his heart was uncontrollable, and he instantly chose to lunge at Jiang Muyan.
However, Jiang Muyan had trained in taekwondo and stood at 175 cm, taller than the short and stocky Zhang Qiang. When he charged at her, she reflexively grabbed his T-shirt.
Though it was early autumn, everyone was dressed lightly. As Zhang Qiang rushed toward her, there was a loud rip.
Right in front of everyone, Jiang Muyan tore open Zhang Qiang’s T-shirt, exposing his dark chest.
Jiang Muyan: “……?”
Cheng Jianli: “?”
Zhang Qiang was stunned. His cheap, low-quality T-shirt bought for just a few bucks from a street vendor had been ripped right off him in front of everyone. For a man, this was nothing short of humiliating!
The crowd burst into laughter.
“Holy crap, the young miss has some serious grip strength!” “Getting your clothes torn off by a high schooler now that’s insulting, hahaha!”
“Oh my god, how did this even happen? She’s so strong!”
“Help, I’m dying of laughter, hahahahaha!”
“Why does this suddenly feel like a comedy sketch?”
The dean’s face darkened. “Jiang Muyan, what are you doing?”
Jiang Muyan quickly tossed the torn fabric aside. “…He attacked first. I was just defending myself.”
Zhang Qiang clutched the remains of his shirt, still in shock, when suddenly, police sirens blared at the school gate.
Several officers stepped out of the car with practiced efficiency. One of them addressed the dean, “Has a man named Zhang Qiang been here?”
The dean, unsure who had called the police, nodded. “Yes, that’s him.”
The officers exchanged glances, spotting Zhang Qiang standing there dumbfounded, his shirt in tatters.
They verified his identity: “You’re Zhang Qiang, correct? Resident of XX Village, ID number…”
Once confirmed, the young officer spoke sternly, “We’ve received information that you were involved in a human trafficking case years ago. You’ll need to come with us for questioning.”
“And Cheng Tianwei, given your close ties to Zhang Qiang, you’ll need to come as well.”
Fifteen minutes later, Zhang Qiang and Cheng Tianwei were taken away, and the schoolyard gradually settled back into calm.
Uncle Liu arrived at the gate in a hurry. “Young miss, are you alright?”
The crowd had dispersed. The dean comforted Cheng Jianli, telling her to rest and skip classes for the day.
Jiang Muyan quickly asked, “Teacher Cheng, are you okay?”
Cheng Jianli shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Jiang Muyan assured her, “Don’t worry, Zhang Qiang won’t show his face around you again.”
Uncle Liu added, “Zhang Qiang broke the law, he’s definitely going to prison. As for Cheng Tianwei, we’ll have to see if he’s connected to the old case.”
Cheng Jianli nodded. “I understand. Thank you, Uncle Liu.”
Uncle Liu then turned to Jiang Muyan, puzzled. “Young miss, I heard you… tore someone’s clothes off?”
Jiang Muyan’s cheeks quickly flushed a light pink as she defended herself, “That was an accident! How was I supposed to know his T-shirt was so fragile…”
Uncle Liu chuckled, “No wonder Zhang Qiang still looked dazed when he left.”
Cheng Jianli also said seriously, “You really are incredibly strong.”
Scratching her head sheepishly, Jiang Muyan replied, “Being strong means I can protect you,” then added loudly, “But Zhang Qiang is such an idiot, daring to show up at school. Serves him right, let’s see how his son can stay at the school now.”
Uncle Liu said, “Zhang Siyuan will definitely drop out. Their family’s income depended on Zhang Qiang. Now that he’s been taken away, there’s no way Zhang Siyuan can remain at Hongchuan No. 7 High.”
Cheng Jianli nodded slightly.
Uncle Liu continued, “By the way, Young Miss, isn’t it class time now?”
Jiang Muyan suddenly realized, “Oh right, it seems class started half an hour ago. No wonder everyone’s gone.”
Uncle Liu: “…”
Cheng Jianli said, “The homeroom teacher told me to go home and rest. She said she’d call me tonight to check in.”
Hearing this, Jiang Muyan quickly offered, “Then I’ll go home with you!”
Cheng Jianli asked, “Don’t you have class?”
“I don’t feel comfortable letting you go home alone,” Jiang Muyan said. “I’ll ask Teacher Zhang for leave. I’m sure she’ll agree someone should stay with you.”
Cheng Jianli gave a soft “Mm” and said, “Let’s go then.”
The two got into the car, with Jiang Muyan calling Teacher Zhang while Cheng Jianli remained listless, her mood visibly gloomy.
Halfway through the ride, noticing Cheng Jianli’s state, Jiang Muyan rubbed the back of her head and decisively lowered the car’s tinted glass partition blocking both sound and visibility from Uncle Liu.
Cheng Jianli found her action odd. “What are you doing?”
“You’re feeling down because you saw someone you despise today, right?” Jiang Muyan said. “Why don’t you rest your head on my shoulder for a while?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “I’m actually fine, just a bit tired.”
“Then lie on my lap!” Jiang Muyan cheerfully patted her school trousers, adding shyly, “Only you get to do this, you know.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
She couldn’t understand how Jiang Muyan could suggest such an intimate gesture so matter-of-factly.
Just like last night remembering those words made the glands at the back of Cheng Jianli’s neck burn with warmth.
