After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 30.2
Cheng Jianli was organizing the day’s homework. “What is it?”
Jiang Muyan said, “Do you remember promising me a reward after the monthly exams?”
“I remember,” Cheng Jianli said. “What do you want to know?”
“I want to know what’s really on the back of your neck,” Jiang Muyan pondered. “It’s really not a tattoo?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “No.”
Jiang Muyan groaned in frustration. “Then what is it? I really can’t guess anymore.”
Cheng Jianli said, “Actually, after the monthly exams, even if I don’t tell you, you’ll find out on your own.”
Jiang Muyan narrowed her eyes. “This isn’t some kind of secret of yours, is it?”
Cheng Jianli thought for a moment. “Mm, it is a secret.”
Jiang Muyan blinked. “And you’re telling me?”
“Of course. I promised you,” Cheng Jianli said, keeping her word. “I’ll only tell you. Don’t go spreading it around.”
Hearing this, Jiang Muyan felt a surge of delight bubbling up in her throat. “Got it, Teacher Cheng!”
“Come on, get back to your problems,” Cheng Jianli urged. “Today, I’m making sure you finish all your homework.”
With a sudden burst of energy, Jiang Muyan sprang up and dashed to her desk to tackle the science exam papers while Cheng Jianli sat nearby, memorizing English vocabulary.
The two drowned themselves in their studies for over an hour before Cheng Jianli peeked at Jiang Muyan’s progress and found she had already completed most of the page.
“You’re working fast,” Cheng Jianli remarked.
“Of course! I feel like the medicine my family doctor prescribed has seriously boosted my learning ability,” Jiang Muyan mused, suddenly serious. “Maybe they swapped my brain while curing my cold.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
That was absolutely impossible.
“Keep going,” Cheng Jianli said. “This is the last assignment for today.”
Jiang Muyan slumped. “I want a break. I’ve been studying for ages.”
Cheng Jianli checked her watch. “Fine. Five minutes.”
Jiang Muyan gasped in horror. “…That’s way too short! Teacher Cheng, are you some kind of evil capitalist?”
Cheng Jianli arched a brow. “Capitalist?”
“Capitalists exploit workers by extending surplus labor time to extract surplus value,” Jiang Muyan recited. “Teacher Cheng, I think you’re squeezing me dry.”
“Your Marxist theory is well memorized, but I’m not extracting any surplus value from you,” Cheng Jianli countered. “Studying is for your own good.”
Jiang Muyan grinned. “I think part of it is for you, though.”
“Enough chatter,” Cheng Jianli warned. “Or you won’t finish tonight’s vocabulary.”
That was a clear threat to increase her word count. Jiang Muyan immediately sealed her lips and savored her precious five-minute break.
After a while, Cheng Jianli asked, “By the way, why did you ask me earlier what kind of person I like?”
Jiang Muyan’s phone screen lit up as the question landed. She answered honestly, “Because I was curious.”
Cheng Jianli tilted her head. “Do you have a type you like, then?”
At this, Jiang Muyan perked up instantly. “Teacher Cheng, are you curious about me?”
Cheng Jianli considered it for half a second. “I suppose I am.”
Jiang Muyan was about to blurt out that she liked someone exactly like Cheng Jianli but then she remembered Cheng Jianli wasn’t her wife yet.
She couldn’t afford to slip up again!
Her mind raced. How should she phrase it? How should she wait, had she ever even thought about what kind of person she liked before meeting Cheng Jianli?
Jiang Muyan’s pupils dilated in realization.
She couldn’t define any standard because her standard seemed to be Cheng Jianli herself!
Cheng Jianli noticed her prolonged silence and said, “If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine.”
Jiang Muyan quickly responded, “No, no, I’m just thinking.”
Cheng Jianli frowned slightly, puzzled. “You need to think for this long?”
Jiang Muyan immediately became serious. “Of course! This is a matter of lifelong importance. How can I not be careful?”
Cheng Jianli: “Alright, I’ll wait.”
Jiang Muyan thought hard for five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes… Cheng Jianli sat beside her patiently. Eventually, Jiang Muyan gave up, scratching her head. “Actually, I don’t think I have a specific type. I’m the kind of person who, once I commit to someone, will stay with them for the long haul.”
Jiang Muyan added, “All my friends say I’m very loyal.”
Cheng Jianli asked, “Your friends?”
Jiang Muyan nodded. “Yeah, they say I’m soft-hearted and easygoing, especially when it comes to relationships. If someone I love cries, it really pains me.”
Cheng Jianli inquired, “How so?”
Jiang Muyan earnestly replied, “I’d cry with them.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Truly a fool’s approach.
Cheng Jianli then said, “But what your friends say is true. You’re very easygoing and have a gentle personality.”
Jiang Muyan bashfully admitted, “Actually, I can get pretty angry too, but I just don’t like holding grudges.”
Cheng Jianli remarked, “Hmm, I’ve never seen you angry.”
“You’ll never see it,” Jiang Muyan assured her. “I’d never get angry with you, Teacher Cheng.”
Cheng Jianli was momentarily taken aback. “Why?”
Jiang Muyan smiled. “Because you’re always so kind to me. I told you I’d protect you!”
Hearing this, Cheng Jianli felt her heart stir once again at Jiang Muyan’s sincerity. Not wanting to show her emotions, she turned her head away. “Alright, let’s get back to studying.”
As she spoke, a faint blush crept up her neck.
Hongchuan Seventh High, Class 4.
Zhang Siyuan moved away from You Xia’s side, muttering sarcastically, “Finally don’t have to sit next to her anymore. What bad luck, couldn’t even copy homework properly!”
You Xia kept her head down, silent. She didn’t know why the homeroom teacher had suddenly changed her seatmate, but honestly, she felt relieved not to be next to Zhang Siyuan.
Zhang Siyuan swaggered over to another seat, where a similarly inattentive boy sat, one of many such students in Class 4.
His name was Xiao Lei, with an ordinary face, small eyes, and a faint scar across his nose. He greeted Zhang Siyuan as he sat down. “Hey, man.”
Zhang Siyuan immediately noticed the mark. “Whoa, dude, what happened to your face?”
Xiao Lei scowled at the memory. “Got screwed over by someone.”
Though they hadn’t known each other before, high school boys bond quickly.
Zhang Siyuan frowned. “Screwed over? How?”
Xiao Lei jutted his chin. “Got hit with a basketball in the equipment room a while back. This scar’s still here, and I got probation and a permanent record. Total bullshit!”
Zhang Siyuan asked, “If they hit you, why did you get probation?”
“It’s a long story, forget it.” Xiao Lei still remembered Cheng Jianli’s aloof and indifferent demeanor in the equipment room. If that Jiang Muyan hadn’t shown up, he would have definitely injected Cheng with the differentiation serum and recorded her transformation!
Thinking of this, Xiao Lei clenched his fists in frustration. This scar was from being hit by a basketball Cheng Jianli threw, he’d long disliked her arrogant attitude.
Back when Class 4 and Class 2 had joint lessons, Cheng Jianli, as the academic monitor, had to collect homework from both classes. Xiao Lei didn’t want to do his assignment and even framed his deskmate for tearing up his notebook. Cheng Jianli ignored his excuses and reported him directly to the teacher.
From that moment, Xiao Lei remembered her name, seething at her cold superiority. A month ago, he’d planned to teach her a lesson in the equipment room, to show her he wasn’t to be trifled with until Jiang Muyan unexpectedly interfered.
Filled with regret, Xiao Lei now had a permanent record and was under school probation, while Cheng Jianli remained completely unscathed. How could this not infuriate him?
As Xiao Lei brooded, Zhang Siyuan asked, “Hey man, do you know Jiang Muyan?”
Jiang Muyan?
Xiao Lei’s eyes widened instantly at the name. “What about her?”
Zhang Siyuan said, “She butted in when I was talking to my cousin a few days ago. Pissed me off.”
Xiao Lei had initially tried flattering Jiang Muyan in the equipment room, but now, remembering how she’d gotten him probation, his expression turned venomous. “Jiang Muyan’s family just has dirty money. She acts all high and mighty, if her father wasn’t Jiang Huai, who at Hongchuan Seventh High would even look her way?”
Seeing Xiao Lei’s rage, Zhang Siyuan probed, “You’ve got history with her?”
Xiao Lei recounted the equipment room incident in detail. Zhang Siyuan was stunned, he hadn’t realized Cheng Jianli was involved, and most importantly, Jiang Muyan had defended her even back then!
He immediately told Xiao Lei that Cheng Jianli was his cousin and embellished the recent stairwell confrontation.
Xiao Lei cursed viciously after hearing it. “Birds of a feather! Neither Jiang Muyan nor Cheng Jianli are any good!”
Zhang Siyuan patted his shoulder. “But with your probation and permanent record, how are you explaining this to your parents?”
Xiao Lei rolled his eyes. “My parents raised hell with the administration, but they refused to revoke the punishment. It’s on my record for good!”
Zhang Siyuan said, “Cheng Jianli scarred your face and got you probation with a permanent record. Don’t you hate her?”
Xiao Lei sneered, “I’m past caring. Since my record’s already ruined, if I get the chance, I’ll make sure they pay.”
Just as Zhang Siyuan was about to respond, the class bell rang.
He tugged Xiao Lei’s arm. “Let’s grab drinks after class. We’ll talk more at the bubble tea shop.”
Jiang Muyan’s cold had worsened, forcing her to wear a mask at school. With teachers emphasizing key exam points recently, she didn’t want to miss class, so she had Uncle Liu drive her.
As she got out of the car, she spotted Xu Yinghe stepping out of her family’s vehicle. Weakly, Jiang Muyan greeted, “Good morning,” then noticed Xu Wen in the car window. “Good morning, Uncle Xu.”
“Isn’t that Mu Yan?” Xu Wen said with a gentle, scholarly smile. “Long time no see.”
“Why are you wearing a mask?” Xu Yinghe ignored her father, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and walked off without another word.
“Yinghe, I have a business trip tomorrow. I’ll have the driver pick you up in the evening,” Xu Wen called after her.
Xu Yinghe responded with a cold “Mm,” then grabbed Jiang Muyan’s hand and pulled her away.
Jiang Muyan noticed Xu Wen’s car remained parked in place, unmoving. Puzzled, she asked, “Why do you treat your father like that?”
Xu Yinghe stayed silent, continuing to walk forward with Jiang Muyan in quiet companionship.
Jiang Muyan added, “By the way, I’ve caught a cold these past few days, so I shouldn’t get too close to you to avoid passing it on.”
Xu Yinghe frowned slightly. “You’re sick?”
Jiang Muyan replied, “Yeah, I got caught in the rain and haven’t recovered. In fact, it’s been getting worse.”
Xu Yinghe reached out to touch Jiang Muyan’s forehead, startling her and making her pull back. “What’s wrong?”
Xu Yinghe said softly, “I hope you’re not running a fever.”
Jiang Muyan brushed it off. “It’s not that easy to get a fever. Don’t worry, I’m strong and healthy!”
After a moment of silence, Xu Yinghe asked, “By the way, were you arguing with someone at the stairwell the other day?”
Jiang Muyan was surprised. “How did you know?”
Xu Yinghe thought of You Xia. “I heard about it from someone else. That guy had a really foul mouth.”
