After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
After releasing her pent-up emotions, Qin Yue’s crying left her gasping for air. Dazed, she leaned against Ling Jixiao’s chest.
The warmth of his embrace was comforting. She instinctively closed her red, swollen eyes and nuzzled against his chest.
Ling Jixiao noticed her small movements and couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
Hearing his laughter, Qin Yue felt a sudden flush of heat, her ears turning bright red. How embarrassing! She had been clinging to him while crying just moments ago!
Embarrassed, she buried her face deeper into his chest, too ashamed to lift her head.
“Don’t suffocate yourself!” Ling Jixiao found her reaction adorable but worried she might actually hurt herself. He gently cupped her cheeks and tilted her face upward.
Qin Yue’s eyes were red and puffy from crying, her long lashes trembling like butterfly wings, still glistening with tears. The sight of her made her seem even more pitiful and lovable, making him want to hold her close and cherish her.
Outside, snow fell, and the sky was a hazy gray.
Qin Yue raised her head, meeting Ling Jixiao’s gaze.
Her eyes were clear and bright, direct and fervent, as if she saw only Qin Yue.
Ling Jixiao’s fingertips gently brushed the redness at the corners of Qin Yue’s eyes, intensifying the crimson hue until it resembled the ripest peach, carrying a hint of maturity that made one want to take a bite.
Qin Yue’s breath hitched, her gaze helplessly drawn to Ling Jixiao.
Ling Jixiao was so close, staring at her. In this prolonged, silent gaze, Qin Yue felt the air around them solidify. Her fingers curled, unconsciously tugging at Ling Jixiao’s clothes until her knuckles paled. She could feel her heart pounding wildly.
The distance between them gradually narrowed. Ling Jixiao gazed at Qin Yue’s reddened lips, sweet as the most tempting candy, making her want to take a bite.
Just as Ling Jixiao was about to kiss Qin Yue, a nurse suddenly appeared.
“Miss Qin, there you are!” The nurse didn’t notice the couple’s intimate moment as she approached. “Ms. Hai said she needs to speak with you!”
Qin Yue quickly pushed Ling Jixiao away, awkwardly smoothing her hair. “Right, right, I know. Thank you.” Her eyes darted everywhere except at Ling Jixiao beside her.
After thanking the nurse, Qin Yue hurried to the restroom to splash water on her face before rushing to Grandma Hai’s room. Her haste was mainly to escape the awkwardness of being alone with Ling Jixiao.
Ling Jixiao was visibly annoyed; she was so close to kissing Qin Yue! She glared at the nurse, who looked bewildered, wondering what she had done wrong.
As Qin Yue approached the door to Grandma Hai’s room, the elderly woman heard her and called out, “Xiao Yue?”
“It’s me.” Qin Yue rushed over and took Grandma Hai’s hand.
Turning toward Qin Yue, Grandma Hai’s voice took on a pleading tone. “Xiao Yue, could you do me a favor? I want to call Yangyang.”
“This…” Qin Yue hesitated, opening her mouth but unsure how to begin.
Just then, Ling Jixiao walked in. She gave Qin Yue a reassuring look and calmly said, “Grandma Hai, Grandma Yang is a caregiver for an elderly person whose health is fragile and can’t tolerate any electronic radiation. That’s why she can’t use a phone. How about this? I’ll find time to visit Grandma Yang and ask her to write you a letter. Once your vision returns, you can read it yourself!”
Grandma Hai looked somewhat disappointed but nodded in understanding.
Qin Yue finally let out a sigh of relief.
Qin Yue couldn’t bear to see Grandma Hai waiting alone, unaware that the person she missed was already gone. She feared she might break down crying again at their tragic situation, so she quickly made an excuse and left early.
Ling Jixiao assured her, “Don’t worry. I’ve arranged for a professional caregiver to look after Grandma Hai. She’ll be well taken care of.”
Qin Yue needed to return to school. The first few days after the semester started were already packed with classes.
Ling Jixiao insisted on driving her home. “It’s snowing outside,” she said matter-of-factly. “It’ll be hard to get a ride. My car’s nice and warm.”
“Aren’t you busy?” Qin Yue looked at Ling Jixiao with suspicion. How could she be so idle? “Aren’t you worried your boss will dock your pay for being out so often?”
“No, I am the boss,” Ling Jixiao replied with a sly smile.
Qin Yue pursed her lips. “With a lazy leader like you, how does your department ever get anything done?”
Qin Yue headed toward the parking lot, silently accepting Ling Jixiao’s offer to drive her home. Ling Jixiao’s car was very comfortable, and Qin Yue saw no reason to make things difficult for herself. Besides, she had something she wanted to give her.
Ling Jixiao followed Qin Yue, chuckling. “Work is meant to be delegated to subordinates. If I did everything myself, why would I hire employees? It’s not like I pay them for nothing!”
Qin Yue didn’t respond. She rubbed her stinging eyes, still sore from crying earlier.
Ling Jixiao got in the car and pulled a disposable steam eye mask from her bag. “Here, put this on. It’ll help soothe your eyes.” She often used them herself when her eyes felt strained from reading documents or staring at the computer screen.
“Thanks.” Qin Yue put on the eye mask. The car glided smoothly down the road, and before she knew it, Qin Yue had fallen asleep.
When Qin Yue woke up, she found herself back at school. Removing the steam eye mask, she realized her eyes really didn’t hurt anymore.
The snow had stopped, leaving the ground damp and wet, though the sky remained overcast.
Before getting out of the car, Qin Yue asked Ling Jixiao to wait a moment; she had something to give her.
This was the first time Qin Yue had ever given her a gift. Ling Jixiao was so happy she could barely contain herself. Suppressing her excitement, she pleaded, “Can I go with you to get it?”
Qin Yue thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
The two got out of the car and walked to the dormitory building together. Ling Jixiao waited for Qin Yue downstairs.
Watching Qin Yue disappear into the dormitory, Ling Jixiao felt the already gloomy sky grow even darker.
Breathing warm air into her palms, Ling Jixiao watched the students passing by, reminiscing about her own school days.
What had she been doing back then?
Oh, right—she remembered. The young her had been poring over books, studying diligently. She’d been quiet and withdrawn, feeling out of place among the lively crowds, yet secretly envying their camaraderie.
But she couldn’t stop studying. She needed to inherit the family business, manage the company, and earn her way to the presidency of Minghui Group through her own efforts.
How tedious and boring it all was.
Ling Jixiao looked up at the sky and sighed inwardly.
“Hello, Sister!” A female voice called out as footsteps approached.
Ling Jixiao lowered her head and looked over. It was a somewhat familiar female Omega.
“Hello, Sister. Do you remember me? I’m Qin Yue’s roommate, Li Nuonuo.” Li Nuonuo felt incredibly lucky to have run into Ling Jixiao today. She’d always had a good impression of her and had even asked Qin Yue for her contact information, but Qin Yue had said she’d ask and then forgotten about it due to other matters. She never expected to see her again today!
“Yes, I remember you. Hello,” Ling Jixiao replied with a faint smile. She always treated people kindly if they were connected to Qin Yue.
“Um, Sister, could I ask for your contact information?” Li Nuonuo asked softly. Seeing Ling Jixiao’s puzzled expression, she quickly added, “That is, if Qin Yue needs anything in the future or if I can’t reach her, I can contact you…”
Ling Jixiao thought about it and realized it made sense. If she couldn’t reach Qin Yue directly, she could find her through her roommate.
“Sure,” Ling Jixiao nodded in agreement.
Li Nuonuo, thrilled to have Ling Jixiao’s contact information, smiled brightly, said goodbye, and hurried back to the dormitory building.
Ling Jixiao didn’t give it much thought and continued waiting for Qin Yue.
As Qin Yue was descending the stairs, she ran into Li Nuonuo. Worried that Ling Jixiao might be waiting too long, she simply waved at Li Nuonuo and continued down.
The moment she stepped outside, Qin Yue shivered, feeling the temperature had dropped even further.
Ling Jixiao spotted Qin Yue immediately and hurried over. Before she could say anything, Qin Yue pressed a small cloth bag into her hand.
“Alright, you should go back now. It’s too cold out here,” Qin Yue urged, pushing Ling Jixiao toward the dormitory.
“What’s this?” Ling Jixiao shook the small cloth bag curiously.
“Nothing!” Qin Yue replied, still pushing Ling Jixiao away. “It might start snowing again soon, and driving will be tricky then.”
“Tell me what’s inside, or I’m opening it right now!” Ling Jixiao threatened, reaching for the small cloth bag.
“Don’t…” Qin Yue protested, her face flushing crimson like a ripe red apple. After a hesitant pause, she stammered that it was a New Year’s gift in return.
“And…” Qin Yue pressed her lips together, looking up at Ling Jixiao with earnest sincerity, “Thank you so much for helping with Grandma Hai and Grandma Yang’s situation.”
Ling Jixiao had indeed been instrumental in resolving the matter, and Qin Yue felt deeply grateful to her, both personally and out of a sense of duty.
“It’s nothing. Just consider it repayment for Grandma Yang’s half of the property,” Ling Jixiao replied. Then, as if struck by a sudden thought, she grinned mischievously, “Yours half, mine half—now it’s our house together!”
Qin Yue’s face burned even hotter. She nudged Ling Jixiao, a mix of embarrassment and irritation in her voice, “Just go back already!”
“Okay, okay, okay!” Ling Jixiao relented, afraid of pushing her too far.
“Drive carefully,” Qin Yue cautioned.
“Alright, hurry back now,” Ling Jixiao said, waving goodbye to her.
Watching Ling Jixiao leave, Qin Yue let out a sigh, touched her burning cheeks, and turned to head back to the dormitory.
As soon as she returned, she saw Bai Zhi looking at her with a peculiar expression, while Li Nuonuo grinned like a lovesick girl.
“What’s wrong?” Qin Yue asked, puzzled.
Bai Zhi opened her mouth, then shook her head and glanced at Li Nuonuo.
Qin Yue followed Bai Zhi’s gaze to Li Nuonuo.
Unaware of Bai Zhi’s conflicted look, Li Nuonuo said happily, “Qin Yue, I just saw your sister when I came back! We exchanged contact information!”
Hearing this, Qin Yue felt a sudden roar in her mind, a bitter ache swelling in her chest and engulfing her entire being.
Still immersed in her own excitement, Li Nuonuo continued, “What should I say? What type of guy does your sister like, Qin Yue? Do you think I have a chance?”
A wave of jealousy and anger spread through Qin Yue, tightening until she felt suffocated.
Qin Yue lowered her gaze, her voice soft yet strained with barely contained fury. “I don’t know,” she said. “You can ask her what kind of gift she likes.”
“Oh, okay.” Li Nuonuo, oblivious to Qin Yue’s simmering anger, continued pondering what message to send.
A tempest brewed beneath Qin Yue’s calm exterior. You two-faced flirt, Ling Jixiao! she thought bitterly. What a fickle, heartless charmer!
