After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 36
“Sister, do you want to… hold me?” Bai Zhi murmured, leaning against Su Yao.
Su Yao silently felt the warm air in the theater. She wasn’t cold at all.
Oh, right—Omegas are more delicate!
Su Yao glanced meaningfully at Bai Zhi’s down jacket, which was draped over the back of the seat. If you’re cold, put your jacket on.
Bai Zhi: “……” Could you at least have some tact?
Su Yao: “……” Was I wrong?
Just as they locked eyes in a silent standoff, a series of suggestive sucking sounds came from behind them.
They turned around simultaneously. A young couple, apparently inspired by the movie, were embracing intimately, hands already under each other’s clothes.
The tips of Su Yao’s ears flushed red. With a stiff expression, she quickly reached out and covered Bai Zhi’s eyes.
“This is definitely not for kids!”
Honestly, wouldn’t it be more comfortable and enjoyable for that couple to just go to a hotel instead of doing this here?
Bai Zhi giggled uncontrollably, her breathy voice whispering, “Sister, I’m all grown up! I’ve been in relationships multiple times!”
Because they were standing so close, Bai Zhi’s warm breath brushed against Su Yao’s skin, making her hand tremble and her heart skip a beat.
Su Yao quickly pulled back a few inches. “Let’s just watch the movie,” she said, though inwardly she wondered, Who was this little Bai Zhi planning to watch this racy movie with? Good thing that person stood her up—otherwise, there would have been trouble.
Finally, after the movie ended, Su Yao breathed a sigh of relief as she walked out of the theater.
Bai Zhi was reluctant to end the day so soon. She pestered Su Yao, finding excuses to say that since she’d invited Su Yao to the movie, Su Yao should treat her to dinner.
Su Yao didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just a polite exchange of favors, and agreed.
After eating at a mall, even though Bai Zhi was still reluctant, she had to return to school to study.
Exams! Of course, I don’t want to fail!
Watching Bai Zhi get into her car, Su Yao let out a sigh.
Spending time with young girls is exhausting.
She checked the time and decided to stop by Minghui. She’d been sending documents from home yesterday and left some files at the office. Now was a good time to retrieve them.
When Su Yao arrived at the office, she noticed the light in the CEO’s office was on. Curious, she knocked on the door.
“Come in,” Ling Jixiao’s cool voice replied.
Su Yao opened the door and raised an eyebrow in surprise. “CEO Ling, why are you here? Weren’t you supposed to be with Miss Qin?”
She remembered picking Ling Jixiao up from the airport yesterday. Ling Jixiao had been in a rush to get home, change her clothes, and go find Qin Yue.
Normally, during these quiet days, Ling Jixiao should have been clinging to—no, spending time with—Qin Yue.
Ling Jixiao sighed. “She’s preparing for her exams. I didn’t want to bother her while she was studying.”
Su Yao was taken aback by this. She’d felt something was off about Bai Zhi suddenly appearing on the streets, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
Now it made sense. Why would someone preparing for exams go out shopping and watch a movie?
Su Yao thought about it some more and figured Bai Zhi must have finished studying and felt confident before she started going out and having fun.
She didn’t dwell on it for long and quickly forgot about it.
Since her boss, Ling Jixiao, was back at work, Su Yao couldn’t just slack off. Besides, being at work helped her avoid her mother’s constant matchmaking nagging.
The two quickly got down to business.
After the exam, Qin Yue immediately packed her things and returned to the sanatorium.
In fact, she hadn’t planned to leave so quickly on the day of the exam. But a classmate told her that a freshman had asked her out, saying he’d be waiting for her at the main entrance of the teaching building.
Qin Yue immediately realized it was Ling Jingxi. She quickly gathered her belongings and slipped out through the side door. Back in her dorm, she hastily packed her bags and left the school.
There were still twenty days until the New Year, but the streets were already filled with festive atmosphere.
Some shops began hanging red lanterns in long, vibrant strings, creating a festive mood. Stores started their New Year promotions, and the streets buzzed with activity.
As Qin Yue rode the bus, she watched the bustling streets through the window. Passersby, each with a smile, hurried about as if preparing for the New Year, their faces brimming with anticipation for the upcoming festivities.
Returning directly to Xixing Sanatorium, Qin Yue carried her luggage back to her room, greeting people along the way.
“Yue, Yue, you’re back!” A vivaciously dressed elderly woman in a bright red cheongsam approached Qin Yue and beckoned her over. “Come here, Yue, help me take some photos!”
Qin Yue set her suitcase in the corner. “Coming.”
The woman, surnamed Yang, was known for her love of beauty.
“Grandma Yang, you look even more beautiful today!” Qin Yue said with a smile.
“Oh, you flatterer!” Grandma Yang chuckled, her face beaming. “Now, hurry up and take my picture—make it a good one!” She handed her camera to Qin Yue.
This wasn’t the first time Qin Yue had taken photos for Grandma Yang. She raised the camera and snapped several shots of the posed elderly woman. “Grandma Yang, you shouldn’t diet so strictly to maintain your figure. You look too thin—make sure you’re getting enough nutrients!”
“I know, I know. But if you don’t capture my beauty, I’ll have to teach you a lesson!” Grandma Yang feigned annoyance playfully.
“Grandma Yang, you’re so beautiful! Every photo of you looks amazing!” Qin Yue gushed, showering the elderly woman with flattery until her cheeks split into a delighted grin.
Grandma Yang was famously vain at Xixing Sanatorium. She spent every day meticulously grooming herself before posing for photos with her camera. Afterward, she would sit beside her late husband’s portrait, carefully selecting the best shots to have printed.
Qin Yue took dozens of photos before Grandma Yang finally let her off the hook.
Watching Grandma Yang’s joyful figure receding into the distance, camera in hand, Qin Yue chuckled helplessly and wheeled her suitcase back to her room.
Later, Qin Yue strolled through the small garden and spotted an elderly woman sitting on a bench, sunglasses perched on her head as she basked in the sun.
The woman had a tall, slender frame, her silver hair framing a face that glowed with vitality. Though her skin bore a few deep creases, her overall appearance was striking, especially with the sunglasses adding a cool, fashionable touch.
Beside her lay a long black cane, its ends worn from frequent use.
Grandma Hai sat motionless on the bench, not even the slightest movement. From a distance, she looked like a sculpture, becoming a feature of the sanatorium’s small garden.
“Grandma Hai, enjoying the sun?” Qin Yue approached.
“Yue?” Grandma Hai smiled warmly, tilting her head slightly toward Qin Yue. “You’re back!”
“Yes.” Qin Yue sat down beside Grandma Hai, her voice tinged with concern. “Where’s Grandma Yang?”
Grandma Yang’s husband was Grandma Hai. The couple, childless, had moved into Xixing Sanatorium together, providing each other with companionship and growing close.
Several years ago, Grandma Hai suffered an eye injury that didn’t fully heal. Instead of resting, she continued her usual activities, leading to a corneal infection and ulceration.
At first, Grandma Hai hid her condition well, enduring the discomfort and treating herself with over-the-counter medication. But as her vision worsened, she could no longer conceal it. Her eyesight had deteriorated to the point where she couldn’t see clearly at all, and Grandma Yang discovered her. Heartbroken and angry, Grandma Yang insisted on taking her to the hospital.
The doctor explained that due to an infection, Grandma Hai’s cornea had severely ulcerated and was now spreading to her eyeball. To save her eye, she needed a corneal graft surgery.
The surgery would only repair and save her eye. Although the eye would be saved, Grandma Hai would permanently lose her sight.
Unless, of course, there was a corneal donor.
But donors were scarce. For now, all they could do was join the waiting list and hope for a donor.
The two women weren’t wealthy to begin with, and the corneal graft surgery depleted their savings. Grandma Hai had also lost much of her ability to care for herself. So, Grandma Yang took her to live at Xixing Sanatorium.
Years passed without a corneal donor. Grandma Hai had given up hope, but Grandma Yang hadn’t. She continued to patiently wait, often telling Grandma Hai about all the things they would do together once her sight was restored.
“She went to get water for me,” Grandma Hai said, her smile softening as she spoke of her companion. “Yue, Yangyang’s been causing you trouble, hasn’t she?”
Just moments before, Grandma Yang had been leaning against her, chatting and selecting photos Qin Yue had taken of her.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Qin Yue said quickly, waving her hand. “I actually enjoy taking photos of you, Grandma Yang.”
“Yangyang loves taking photos so much, it’s all for me,” Grandma Hai said, her voice full of indulgence, yet tinged with regret. “She always says she wants to capture her most beautiful moments, so when my sight returns, I can see her at her best. But at my age… whether my sight returns or not doesn’t matter anymore.”
“Grandma Hai, don’t say that…” Qin Yue began, wanting to comfort her, but Grandma Hai cut her off with a wave of her hand.
“Don’t try to comfort me. I know how scarce cornea donors are. I’ve lived with this for years; I’m used to it! Besides, if a donor does become available, it should go to the young. I’m old enough; there’s no need for me.” Grandma Hai smiled serenely. “Still, not being able to see Yangyang… that’s truly a regret.”
Qin Yue opened her mouth as if she wanted to say more, but no words came out.
Grandma Hai, sensing the conversation had turned serious, quickly changed the subject, sharing stories about her past with Grandma Yang. “Oh, she used to be such a crybaby! She’d start sobbing at the slightest grievance, refusing to explain what was wrong. It would drive me crazy running around trying to comfort her. Then, just when I was at my wits’ end, she’d burst into laughter…”
Through Grandma Hai’s anecdotes, the elegant Grandma Yang from earlier transformed into a lovable, childlike figure. Qin Yue listened intently, unable to hold back her laughter at the amusing stories.
Grandma Yang arrived with a cup of water. “Aiya, you old sea dog! Did you badmouth me to Yue again?” she grumbled, though her hands gently grasped Grandma Hai’s as she pressed the warm cup into her palm.
“Grandma Hai was actually praising you!” Qin Yue quickly smoothed things over.
Hearing this, Grandma Yang’s face split into a radiant smile, her joy evident.
Having been force-fed a mouthful of “relationship goals,” Qin Yue stood up, deciding not to disturb the elderly couple any further. She excused herself to find Grandma Qin.
The wind rustled through the garden, causing the holly leaves to sway gently.
For some reason, at that moment, she suddenly thought of Ling Jixiao.
