After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 30
Hearing the screams, a nurse rushed to the room in time.
Soon, a doctor arrived as well, summoned by the commotion.
Xiaoyun trembled violently, clearly terrified. The sudden influx of medical staff only worsened her panic. She shook uncontrollably, her face pale, teeth chattering, and forehead drenched in sweat.
Her mind buzzed with fear. She stopped screaming, biting down hard on her lower lip until it turned white. Her hands flailed wildly, as if fighting off terrifying demons, instinctively trying to save herself.
The flustered nurses and doctor quickly restrained Xiaoyun. Because she was so frail, they easily pinned her down on the bed, and the doctor injected her with a sedative.
Soon, Xiaoyun calmed down and fell asleep.
Everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief.
“What’s wrong with her?” the doctor asked Qin Yue, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
“I… I don’t know…” Qin Yue stammered, still shaken by Xiaoyun’s sudden panic. She had no idea what had triggered Xiaoyun’s outburst.
An elderly woman in the same ward spoke up. “She was fine just a moment ago, just spacing out. Then she seemed to look up at the door or something, and suddenly she went berserk.”
The doctor nodded. “Are you the patient’s family?” he asked Qin Yue.
Qin Yue hesitated before nodding.
“Given her condition, I recommend consulting a psychiatrist or psychologist,” the doctor said decisively after a moment’s thought. “Let’s arrange a consultation with a psychiatric specialist.”
“Thank you,” Qin Yue nodded quickly.
After the doctor and nurses left, Qin Yue sat by the bed, watching Xiaoyun’s peaceful, sleeping face. The memory of Xiaoyun’s hysterical outburst still left a lingering fear in her heart.
Qin Yue couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. She turned to the elderly woman in the room and asked softly, “Hello, Grandma. I wanted to ask about Xiaoyun earlier. Did she start acting that way after glancing at the door?”
“That’s right!” the woman replied, patting her chest. “The girl suddenly screamed and startled me!”
“I’m sorry you were frightened,” Qin Yue said with a smile. “Did you see anything Xiaoyun might have seen at the door?”
The woman pondered for a moment. “Not clearly. I think it was a person.”
Qin Yue recalled seeing a slightly overweight middle-aged man at the door earlier, which raised her suspicions.
“Grandma, did your son or grandson visit you just now?” Qin Yue asked tentatively.
At the mention of her family, the woman’s eyes lit up. “My eldest grandson came to see me a little while ago! He just left!” She immediately began praising her grandson.
Qin Yue humored her with a few agreeable remarks.
The doctor ordered a consultation with a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist hadn’t arrived yet, but Xiaoyun’s mother did. Upon hearing that a psychiatrist was coming for a consultation, she exploded, shouting that the doctors were quacks and that her Xiaoyun wasn’t sick!
The usually kind and gentle-looking woman transformed into a terrifying shrew, screeching like a madwoman.
Qin Yue frowned deeply, watching Xiaoyun’s mother’s hysterical behavior. She couldn’t help but wonder if the middle-aged woman herself had mental health issues. Learning from past mistakes, she refrained from approaching and provoking Xiaoyun’s mother further.
Xiaoyun’s mother’s accusations of incompetence and threats of complaints left the doctors and nurses seething with anger, yet powerless to do anything but resign themselves to their misfortune and leave.
Xiaoyun’s unstable condition meant she would need to be kept in the hospital for observation for another day.
Qin Yue stayed with Xiaoyun for a while.
Xiaoyun’s mother, still needing to work, prepared to leave again. She glanced at Qin Yue without speaking, perhaps finally realizing that Xiaoyun needed someone by her side. She stiffly offered Qin Yue some fruit, a clumsy attempt at appeasement.
When Xiaoyun finally woke up, it was dinner time.
Qin Yue thoughtfully bought food from the hospital cafeteria and set it up for Xiaoyun.
Xiaoyun stared blankly, mechanically eating like a lifeless machine.
After finishing her meal, Qin Yue had just finished tidying up when she saw Xiaoyun pull out her sketchbook and start drawing again.
The same dense, intricate black lines filled the page.
Qin Yue had previously flipped through Xiaoyun’s old drawings. Even a single glance at them conveyed a suffocating heaviness.
“Being chased by this figure must terrify you,” Qin Yue murmured, gazing at the black-lined figure in Xiaoyun’s sketchbook.
She had fallen asleep earlier while looking at Xiaoyun’s drawings. Her dream, suffused with the oppressive weight of the drawings, had plunged her into a suffocating nightmare.
“That figure is terrifying, like something you can’t escape,” Qin Yue said slowly, recalling her dream.
Hearing Qin Yue’s words, Xiaoyun’s hand froze. She slowly raised her head and looked at Qin Yue.
Qin Yue was surprised. Xiaoyun usually ignored everyone, so this sudden reaction was unexpected.
She looked back at Xiaoyun and noticed a glimmer of light in Xiaoyun’s usually lifeless eyes.
Before Qin Yue could fully process what was happening, the glimmering eyes welled with tears, and large droplets began to fall.
“Huh? Why are you crying?” Qin Yue scrambled to get tissues to wipe Xiaoyun’s tears.
If her grandma found out she’d made someone cry, she’d definitely scold her!
Qin Yue didn’t know whether to feel relieved or worried.
At least Xiaoyun finally showed a normal reaction.
Xiaoyun calmed down and lowered her head to continue drawing.
This left Qin Yue puzzled. Even when Xiaoyun’s mother returned, she still hadn’t figured it out.
Just as Qin Yue was leaving, Xiaoyun tugged at her sleeve and whispered, “Sister…” Her voice was soft and raspy, so faint that Qin Yue almost thought she was imagining it.
Xiaoyun’s mother didn’t notice. Qin Yue glanced at Xiaoyun, hesitated, then suppressed her curiosity and said slowly, “I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
After leaving the hospital, Qin Yue took a deep breath and boarded the bus back to the sanatorium.
The swaying bus lulled her mind into a blank state, yet memories of last night’s events drifted back unbidden.
A full day had passed. Qin Yue wasn’t the type to black out from drinking, and she now remembered everything that had happened the previous night.
Last night, Ling Jixiao had suggested they give something a try. When Qin Yue asked if they were starting a relationship, Ling Jixiao had denied it. But this morning, Ling Jixiao had called again, insisting that Qin Yue had asked the right question.
So, was Ling Jixiao asking her if she wanted to start a relationship?
Now that Qin Yue had calmed down and thought about it rationally, she realized that Ling Jixiao driving over in the middle of the night just because she wanted to meet meant she must have feelings for her, or at least be sincere.
This proposal made Qin Yue somewhat tempted. She found Ling Jixiao to be a good person, beautiful, gentle, mature, and charming—a perfect candidate for a partner.
If she hadn’t transmigrated into this novel, she might have actually agreed.
Unfortunately, there was still the crazy Male Lead.
Qin Yue’s heart clenched at the thought!
Her beautiful marriage! Ruined by that crazy Male Lead!
She wanted to draw a circle and curse Ling Jingxi!
Sigh…
Qin Yue returned to the sanatorium in a daze.
She had already told Grandma Qin and Sister Yan about Xiaoyun’s situation earlier that day. They acknowledged it, and Sister Yan even teased Qin Yue about her close relationship with Xiaoyun.
The next day, after helping with everything she could, Qin Yue went to the hospital to visit Xiaoyun again.
Although Xiaoyun was still drawing with her head down, Qin Yue clearly felt that the girl’s reservations had lessened, replaced by a newfound closeness.
At noon, during nap time, Qin Yue received a call from Ling Jixiao.
Ling Jixiao had given Qin Yue a day to think, and now she wanted to know how Qin Yue had considered the matter.
Qin Yue saw that Xiaoyun was asleep. With doctors and nurses around, she figured she’d be safe, so she stepped out to answer the call.
She didn’t want to refuse, but her rational mind knew she didn’t want to involve the other person.
“Sister Jixiao, I…” Qin Yue stammered, struggling to decline, her heart aching.
“Wait, where are you?” Ling Jixiao’s cool voice cut through her hesitation.
“I… I’m at the hospital,” Qin Yue blurted out, caught off guard.
“Alright, I’m on my way,” Ling Jixiao said.
Discussing such matters over the phone was already too informal. Whether Qin Yue agreed or refused, it was better to have this conversation face-to-face.
Ling Jixiao made time and drove straight to the hospital.
Knowing Ling Jixiao was coming, Qin Yue’s heart began pounding wildly. She returned to the ward, checked that Xiaoyun was still sound asleep, and quietly asked a nurse to keep an eye on her before leaving.
Ling Jixiao arrived quickly, her car parked in the hospital lot, her figure tall and elegant as she stood waiting.
“Sister Jixiao!” Qin Yue hurried over.
“Ready to take a walk?” Ling Jixiao asked.
The hospital was bustling, even the outdoor parking lot crowded with people coming and going.
Qin Yue nodded.
The two walked toward the hospital exit.
They walked silently until they reached the large bridge over the river. The area was dominated by speeding cars, with few pedestrians around—perfect for a private conversation.
“What’s your answer?” Ling Jixiao asked softly.
Her expression remained calm, but her palms were slightly clenched, and her breathing had become shallow. It was impossible to deny her nervousness.
“I’m sorry, Sister Jixiao,” Qin Yue said, lowering her gaze and avoiding Ling Jixiao’s eyes. She could only look at the river surface.
The weather had warmed up the past few days, and the river surged, completely flooding its banks.
“May I ask why?” Ling Jixiao’s eyes darkened as she looked at Qin Yue.
Qin Yue pursed her lips, as if deep in thought. Finally, she murmured, “I’m sorry.”
“Alright, I understand,” Ling Jixiao said, taking a deep breath. It was impossible not to feel hurt—her first confession had been rejected. Though she hadn’t received an explanation, as an adult, she knew when to step back.
“I’ve troubled you enough in the past,” Ling Jixiao said with a faint smile. From now on, she wouldn’t disturb Qin Yue’s life again.
Qin Yue glanced at Ling Jixiao’s smile and suddenly felt a suffocating tightness in her chest, as if her heart were being squeezed. It was as if she were about to lose something irrevocably. She blurted out, “We can’t still be friends…”
She stopped herself just in time.
To ask to be friends after being rejected is just giving her false hope. What’s the difference between that and being a heartless bitch?
“Hmm?” Ling Jixiao didn’t catch what Qin Yue had said.
Qin Yue shook her head, feeling dejected. “Never mind.”
After a long silence, Ling Jixiao said slowly, “Then, I’ll take you home.”
Perhaps this really is our last meeting.
Qin Yue gritted her teeth, her resentment for the insane male lead, Ling Jingxi, burning even hotter.
Just then, Qin Yue’s phone rang. It was a hospital staff member calling to report that Xiaoyun had gone missing.
Fortunately, Qin Yue had left her phone number before leaving.
“Okay, I’ll head back right away!” Qin Yue said anxiously.
“I’ll go with you,” Ling Jixiao said, having overheard the conversation.
Qin Yue thought for a moment, then nodded.
The two hurried back to the hospital.
Qin Yue was eager to rush inside, but Ling Jixiao stopped her.
Lostnobody
Sometimes I wonder why she doesn’t just go along with the male lead considering she refuses to seek help or look for solutions for the problem…
