After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 27
The car roared to life and drove out of A University’s main gate.
A figure stood nearby, watching the departing vehicle. A complex mix of emotions churned in their heart, their eyes dark and unreadable.
Ling Jixiao took Qin Yue to a Thai restaurant for dinner.
To avoid putting Qin Yue under any pressure, Ling Jixiao deliberately chose a mid-range restaurant that looked like a place ordinary people would go. The cost of a meal for two wouldn’t be too high.
The tangy and spicy Tom Yum seafood hot pot, sweet and sticky mango rice, savory curry chicken with crispy skin, and refreshing spicy green papaya salad brought a summer feel to the winter day.
The food was delicious, but Qin Yue seemed unenthusiastic about eating.
“Don’t you like it?” Ling Jixiao asked.
“No, it’s delicious!” Qin Yue quickly shook her head, smiling. She meant it.
The restaurant’s food really was good, but Qin Yue was worried about the sanatorium.
Ling Jixiao saw the forced smile on Qin Yue’s face and sighed inwardly.
“You’re not happy,” she stated, not asking.
Qin Yue paused, pursed her lips, and lowered her head to continue eating. She knew she couldn’t hide her emotions well, especially from Ling Jixiao, who had years of business experience.
Ling Jixiao didn’t press further. She understood that if Qin Yue wanted to talk, she would speak up herself. Asking too many questions would only poke at her unhappiness.
She took out her phone and sent a few messages, arranging some matters.
After finishing their meal, Qin Yue got into the passenger seat. Ling Jixiao started the car and said, “I’ll take you somewhere.”
“Where?” Qin Yue asked curiously.
Ling Jixiao smiled mischievously. “You’ll see when we get there!”
As the car drove, she took Qin Yue straight to a park.
The park’s main attraction was a mountain. Climbing to the top offered a panoramic view of City A’s night lights.
Vehicles were allowed up the mountain. After registering with the gatekeeper, Ling Jixiao drove straight to the summit.
The mountaintop was bitterly cold at night. Standing in the pavilion, Qin Yue shivered in the winter wind, bundling her scarf tighter. The barren, desolate landscape stretched out around her, amplified by the chilly breeze.
But the sight below lifted her spirits. The city lights twinkled like stars, a dazzling sea of brilliance that made her feel a little better.
“It’s beautiful here,” Qin Yue said, gazing at the sea of lights.
Ling Jixiao retrieved a coat from the car and draped it over Qin Yue’s shoulders.
“Ah, I’m not cold! You keep it!” Qin Yue protested, but immediately sneezed.
Ling Jixiao chuckled, her smile as radiant as spring blossoms.
Qin Yue blushed, embarrassed, and didn’t protest further.
“It’s not just the lights,” Ling Jixiao said, pointing to the sky.
Qin Yue turned her head.
Just then, several explosions rang out as brilliant fireworks burst across the sky, momentarily turning night into day.
“This…” Qin Yue’s eyes widened.
“Ahem, I heard that if you make a wish on a firework, your wish will come true,” Ling Jixiao said with a serious expression. “We’re at the top of the mountain, closest to the fireworks. If there’s anything bothering you, you can wish for it to change.”
The vibrant fireworks danced across the sky, their explosions mingling with Ling Jixiao’s earnest nonsense. It was both amusing and touching.
Qin Yue turned to look at Ling Jixiao.
Bathed in the firework’s glow, Ling Jixiao exuded an air of refined elegance. The flickering light accentuated her natural yet mysterious charm.
Qin Yue let out a chuckle. “Sister Jixiao, you’re so childish!”
Ling Jixiao’s face flushed crimson. She glanced nervously around, then opened her mouth to protest. “You… you young girls believe in this kind of thing, don’t you…?”
Her gaze darted about, but she saw Qin Yue’s smiling face, her eyes crinkled in amusement. Softly, Qin Yue said, “Sister Jixiao, thank you!” Her voice was gentle yet sincere.
How could Qin Yue not understand Ling Jixiao’s intention to make her happy?
Qin Yue gazed at the fireworks, closed her eyes, and began to make a wish.
Whether it was real or not, she didn’t want to disappoint Ling Jixiao’s kindness.
Qin Yue sincerely wished that the sanatorium would get through this difficult time, that her grandma would stay healthy, and that Sister Jixiao would get what she wished for.
The girl’s closed eyes trembled slightly, like the wings of a butterfly, shimmering with a peaceful beauty. Ling Jixiao suddenly felt an urge to kiss her.
After making her wish, Qin Yue opened her eyes, the fireworks reflected in her bright gaze.
Still a little awkward about what had just happened, Ling Jixiao casually asked, “What did you wish for?”
Qin Yue’s lips curved into a smile, her finger resting against her soft, full lips, creating a slight indentation. “I can’t tell you! If I say it out loud, it won’t come true!”
“Okay,” Ling Jixiao replied, not pressing further. She simply continued to watch the fireworks with Qin Yue.
The fireworks soon ended, and the night sky returned to its peaceful calm, leaving only wisps of smoke lingering in the air.
Qin Yue suddenly remembered something and asked, “Isn’t fireworks banned in the city? Why are there so many fireworks here?”
“There’s a specific area by the river where it’s allowed,” Ling Jixiao explained. “Some rich kid wanted to win over his crush and put on a fireworks show as a confession. That’s how I learned about this place.”
“Oh, that’s good,” Qin Yue nodded.
Seeing Qin Yue’s mood visibly lift, Ling Jixiao’s expression softened.
“Let’s go,” she said.
It was too cold here, and staying too long could lead to a cold, especially for someone as frail-looking as Qin Yue.
“Okay,” Qin Yue nodded.
To Ling Jixiao, spending over a hundred thousand yuan on fireworks was nothing.
But to the public, why would anyone set off such a grand fireworks display when it wasn’t even a holiday?
As a result, the fireworks display trended on the city’s social media.
After a moment’s thought, Ling Jixiao ordered her staff to suppress the trending topic. She didn’t want people to find out she’d set off the fireworks just to cheer someone up—it would be too embarrassing!
When Ling Jixiao received Ling Jingxi’s call, she found it somewhat strange.
Though they were mother and son, they weren’t particularly close. Unless it was a holiday or his birthday, Ling Jingxi rarely called her.
Ling Jingxi first asked about Ling Jixiao’s health, then chatted about some inconsequential matters for a couple of minutes. Yet he never dared to reveal his true purpose for calling.
Primarily, Ling Jingxi still feared his mother. After all, he was still a student with little worldly experience, and facing Ling Jixiao’s formidable presence filled him with genuine dread.
Ling Jingxi had been adopted by Ling Jixiao at the age of ten. Even as a child, he remembered his biological parents taking him to meet her, watching them joyfully leave, and never understanding why.
It wasn’t until a household servant whispered in his ear that his parents had abandoned him, sold him to someone else, and would never want him again!
Some people are truly wicked at heart, especially those servants who misled Ling Jingxi. And the unfortunate Ling Jingxi, having grown up believing he was abandoned by his parents to Ling Jixiao, had internalized this narrative.
Even as he grew older and learned that his parents might have given him to Ling Jixiao for money or connections to the Minghui Group, and that Ling Jixiao merely raised him as her successor, he continued to work diligently at everything she asked of him.
The seeds of abandonment had already taken root in Ling Jingxi’s heart, making him feel forever out of place within the Ling family’s main branch.
He worked tirelessly, striving to excel in everything, terrified that Ling Jixiao would disapprove and revoke his status as heir apparent.
Fortunately, everything was progressing in a positive direction.
Eight years passed, yet Ling Jingxi still subconsciously sought to please Ling Jixiao, fearing her every move. This fear had become ingrained in his subconscious.
Ling Jixiao, busy with work, didn’t think much of Ling Jingxi’s silence and simply hung up the phone.
Ling Jingxi didn’t dare propose his ideas directly to Ling Jixiao. After much deliberation, he called her secretary, Su Yao, and shared his thoughts.
He assumed Ling Jixiao was trying to contact Qin Yue to sever their connection. After all, the Ling family was one of City A’s oldest aristocratic clans, and their heir’s marriage would naturally require a suitable match of equal status.
But Ling Jingxi refused to let his life be dictated by such family arrangements.
If he could gradually gain control of the Minghui Group, he would no longer be subject to their control and could act freely.
That’s why he wanted to learn within the Group, to gradually erode its power from within.
When Su Yao learned of Ling Jingxi’s request, she agreed to convey it on his behalf.
Ling Jixiao heard Su Yao’s message and didn’t think much of it. She believed that as an heir, he should start from the bottom to build his skills.
So, Ling Jixiao arranged for Ling Jingxi to start as the lowest-level intern.
Ling Jingxi assumed that, given his status, he would at least become an assistant to one of the Vice Presidents, or failing that, an assistant to one of the Directors.
He never imagined he would be assigned as the lowest-level intern, which left him astonished and deeply dissatisfied.
More than anything, he felt furious.
He thought, “Since Sister Jixiao adopted me and treats me as her heir, why is she still grinding me down like this? Why is she still controlling every aspect of my life so tightly?”
At that moment, Ling Jingxi’s heart was filled with resentment.
Ling Jixiao was unaware of Ling Jingxi’s thoughts, and she had no time to understand them.
Just before New Year’s Day, Ling Jixiao had planned to find time to take Qin Yue out for a meal to reconnect. But then an unexpected situation arose at the branch office, forcing her to leave for a last-minute business trip.
On the eve of the New Year’s Day holiday, Qin Yue received a call from Sister Yan at the Xixing Sanatorium. Sister Yan excitedly announced that the Minghui Group had selected their sanatorium for a charitable donation.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Qin Yue still found it hard to believe. She immediately called Grandma Qin to confirm the news.
Grandma Qin’s voice carried a warm smile as she recounted the Group’s generous act.
Thanks to this donation, the Xixing Sanatorium had not only overcome its financial crisis but also had funds left over to expand its facilities and improve its conditions.
When Qin Yue heard the news, she was so overcome with joy that she burst into tears. Though she had always been an atheist, she suddenly recalled the moment Ling Jixiao had taken her to make wishes under the fireworks.
Her first wish had been for the Xixing Sanatorium to overcome its difficulties.
Now, her first wish had come true.
In her excitement and emotion, Qin Yue preferred to believe in the power of making wishes under the fireworks.
She wanted to thank Ling Jixiao, but when she sent a message and received no reply, she had no choice but to give up.
She planned to return to Xixing Sanatorium the day before the holiday.
When she learned that the major donor was the Minghui Group, Qin Yue felt both happy and a little uneasy, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on why.
She kept getting the feeling that the Minghui Group sounded familiar.
To be precise, the name itself felt familiar, as if she’d seen it somewhere before.
