After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 22
“Sister Jixiao?” Qin Yue murmured, her mind swimming with questions.
Why did Ling Jixiao suddenly rush over and hug her so tightly? How could someone usually so poised and composed lose control like this?
The other woman’s nose kept nuzzling her neck, the ticklish sensation making Qin Yue’s heart race.
Qin Yue smelled alcohol and a faint floral scent.
Has she been drinking too much?
Feeling Ling Jixiao’s trembling body against hers, Qin Yue sensed that something must have happened.
She wrapped her arms around Ling Jixiao, gently patting her back and murmuring soothingly, “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
Ling Jixiao craved more of the peach scent, as if it were a drug that could soothe her, one she was becoming addicted to.
She kept nuzzling and rubbing against Qin Yue’s neck, as if she wanted to tear off the Suppressant Patch and inhale the scent completely.
Yet she still maintained a shred of rationality, knowing that ripping off Qin Yue’s patch in public would be no different from brazenly acting like a lecher in front of everyone.
The two Omegas who had run out earlier saw Ling Jixiao hugging another Omega by the roadside. Assuming she was drunk and harassing a passerby, they hurried over to grab her.
A reporter nearby caught on and immediately ran toward Ling Jixiao with their camera.
Seeing Ling Jixiao run out, her driver quickly called security to block the path of the reporters with their long lenses.
Qin Yue’s view was blocked by Ling Jixiao’s shoulder. She wanted to see what was happening, wondering why it had suddenly become so noisy.
Ling Jixiao regained her composure. She didn’t want Qin Yue to be exposed to the media.
So, she pressed Qin Yue against her, covering her face. She loosened her grip slightly but didn’t let go, whispering, “Hurry, take me away.”
Qin Yue didn’t understand, but she nodded and managed to flag down a taxi. She helped Ling Jixiao into the back seat.
Fortunately, this was a commercial district with plenty of taxis.
“Driver, let’s go!” Qin Yue said.
“Right away!” The driver slammed on the gas pedal.
Ling Jixiao kept her arms around Qin Yue, burying her face in the crook of her neck.
The floral scent earlier had made her feel sick. She desperately needed the comforting taste of peaches to soothe her.
The driver glanced at them through the rearview mirror and gave a knowing smile. “That Alpha of yours sure clings to you, young lady!”
“Huh?” Qin Yue took a moment to understand what the driver meant. She quickly waved her hand. “No, no, she’s not my Alpha.”
Thinking Qin Yue was just shy about admitting it, the driver didn’t press the matter and simply asked where they wanted to go.
Qin Yue lowered her head and asked Ling Jixiao where she wanted to go, but Ling Jixiao refused to speak.
Just then, Ling Jixiao’s phone rang.
Qin Yue was about to tell her the phone was ringing, but Ling Jixiao grabbed her phone and shoved it into Qin Yue’s hands, as if the phone had rudely interrupted her sleep.
Qin Yue, “……” Wasn’t she worried about leaving me alone like this?
Though Ling Jixiao couldn’t see Qin Yue’s exasperated expression, she could imagine it, and her lips curled into a smirk.
She knew who was calling.
Qin Yue glanced at the caller ID. “It’s someone named Su Yao.”
Ling Jixiao didn’t respond, as if she had fallen asleep.
Seeing that Su Yao kept calling, Qin Yue reluctantly answered.
“Hello, I—”
“Who is this?” Su Yao interrupted, momentarily taken aback.
“Ah, it’s Qin Yue. Sister Jixiao is asleep,” Qin Yue replied earnestly, sounding as innocent as a well-behaved child.
Hearing Qin Yue’s name, Su Yao immediately relaxed. Realizing Qin Yue didn’t know where Ling Jixiao was staying, her mind raced. She quickly gave the address of Ling Jixiao’s usual residence without servants and provided the gate code.
“CEO Ling is in your hands now!” Su Yao hung up abruptly, as if afraid Qin Yue would ask more questions.
Qin Yue, “……” Aren’t you worried I might be a bad guy?!
The car arrived at the entrance of Ling Jixiao’s upscale residential complex—a place Ling Jixiao had taken Qin Yue once before for a single night.
The gatekeeper wouldn’t let strangers in, and Ling Jixiao’s building was quite a distance from the main gate. Just as Qin Yue was thinking she might not be strong enough to help Ling Jixiao, the latter stirred.
She opened the window and waved at the gatekeeper. Recognizing her as a resident, the gatekeeper allowed the taxi to enter.
When they reached the building, Qin Yue paid the driver, helped Ling Jixiao out of the car, and escorted her into the elevator.
After entering the password at the door, Qin Yue paused, then helped Ling Jixiao sit down. She changed her shoes, removed her coat, and took on the role of a diligent caretaker before gently laying her on the bed.
Watching Ling Jixiao lie still, her eyes closed and breathing deep and even, Qin Yue rose and went to the bathroom. She wet a towel and gently wiped Ling Jixiao’s face and hands.
After finishing, Qin Yue remembered that drunk people often get thirsty, and honey water can help alleviate hangovers. She went to the kitchen, relieved to find honey there.
To be precise, the kitchen was fully stocked, as if someone regularly replenished it.
Qin Yue prepared a cup of honey water and quietly placed it on the bedside table.
Qin Yue worried that Ling Jixiao might vomit or feel unwell, and was considering staying longer, when she suddenly remembered she still had her part-time job! She quickly tiptoed out of the bedroom and carefully closed the door.
Afraid of waking Ling Jixiao, Qin Yue went to the balcony and called the convenience store boss.
She had left early to take care of someone at the last minute, and since she hadn’t finished her work, she couldn’t accept the day’s pay.
The boss was very understanding, telling her she’d done a good job and that her pay would still be the same.
Ling Jixiao wasn’t actually asleep. To be precise, she had fallen asleep in the car, but woke up when they arrived, and most of the alcohol had worn off by then.
Qin Yue’s attentive care earlier had warmed her heart.
In the past, when she had to drink at social events, her family servants would simply help her to bed and maybe tuck her in.
Perhaps due to the lingering effects of the alcohol, Ling Jixiao now felt strangely dependent on Qin Yue.
So when Qin Yue quietly closed the door and left, Ling Jixiao reacted slowly, realizing Qin Yue had gone. A sudden panic surged in her heart, and she quickly got up and rushed after her.
Hearing a noise, Qin Yue turned around in surprise and saw Ling Jixiao standing in the bedroom doorway, watching her.
After hanging up the phone, Qin Yue walked over. “Why are you awake?” she asked. After a moment’s hesitation, she added, a little sheepishly, “Did I wake you?”
Ling Jixiao stared blankly at Qin Yue and shook her head.
Her dazed expression, looking so endearingly docile like a gentle giant of a dog, softened Qin Yue’s heart. She felt an urge to pat Ling Jixiao on the head.
Suppressing the impulse, Qin Yue went over and helped Ling Jixiao up. “Does your head hurt? Have some honey water.”
Though most of her drunkenness had worn off, Ling Jixiao’s steps were still unsteady as Qin Yue led her back to the bedroom.
Holding the warm honey water, Ling Jixiao stared intently at Qin Yue, her thoughts swirling.
How could Qin Yue be so kind-hearted and good-natured? she wondered. If a normal person had been repeatedly taken advantage of by a stranger, and then discovered that person’s true identity, would they act so amiable, pretending nothing had happened?
Ling Jixiao couldn’t quite understand Qin Yue.
Qin Yue, feeling a little uneasy under Ling Jixiao’s gaze, tilted her head. “What’s wrong?”
Ling Jixiao shook her head. She felt uncomfortable all over, her body reeking of alcohol mixed with the floral pheromones that had clung to her. The smell made her sick.
“I need a shower,” Ling Jixiao said, setting down her water cup and standing up.
“Hey, hey, why don’t you just try to endure it a little longer?” Qin Yue said, noticing Ling Jixiao’s unsteady gait. She was worried Ling Jixiao might slip and fall in the shower. “Drunk people shouldn’t bathe!”
“I’m fine,” Ling Jixiao insisted. The more she thought about it, the more unbearable the stench became.
Seeing she couldn’t stop her, Qin Yue resorted to nagging. “Be careful! Don’t push yourself!”
“Mm,” Ling Jixiao nodded, standing and fetching a change of clothes.
Still worried, Qin Yue added, “I’ll be right outside. Call out if you need anything!”
Seeing Qin Yue’s anxious expression, Ling Jixiao couldn’t help but chuckle. “I know.”
As Ling Jixiao entered the bathroom, Qin Yue felt restless, imagining the worst-case scenario: Ling Jixiao collapsing into the bathtub and not being able to get up. If that happens, I’ll never forgive myself!
After a while, Qin Yue heard the sound of water.
It’s the shower! If it’s the shower, she should be okay!
Qin Yue breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the small sofa in the bedroom, keeping her eyes fixed on the bathroom door, afraid that Ling Jixiao might call her at any moment.
Ling Jixiao turned on the shower, and warm water cascaded down.
Realizing that Qin Yue was just a door away and that every sound of her movements might be heard, a secret thrill stirred within her.
Would Qin Yue wonder how far she’d gone? Would she imagine which parts she was washing?
Ling Jixiao narrowed her eyes slightly as her hands glided over her body, fingertips cleansing every inch.
Logically, she knew Qin Yue wouldn’t indulge in wild fantasies, but fueled by alcohol, her imagination ran wild.
The water washed away the lingering scent of alcohol and floral pheromones. Her fingers reached intimate corners as the bathroom filled with the fragrance of shower gel.
“Mmm…” Ling Jixiao couldn’t suppress a soft moan.
Qin Yue immediately tensed and rushed to the bathroom door. “What’s wrong?”
Ling Jixiao’s eyes narrowed to slits. “Nothing.”
Qin Yue, failing to notice the huskiness in Ling Jixiao’s voice, sighed in relief. “Good. That’s good.”
The sound of water stopped quickly. After some rustling, Ling Jixiao emerged wearing her nightgown.
Qin Yue noticed a faint mint scent in the air, but she didn’t think much of it, assuming it was from Ling Jixiao’s shower gel.
She looked at Ling Jixiao’s dripping wet hair and asked where the hairdryer was.
Ling Jixiao’s hair was soft, especially as the hairdryer gradually dried it. Her fluffy long hair felt almost like a big dog’s fur.
Ling Jixiao turned to Qin Yue and asked the question she’d been most curious about, her voice still a little hoarse: “You’re actually willing to come and take care of me?”
“Huh?” Qin Yue was completely confused. “Why wouldn’t I be?” She pondered for a moment, assuming Ling Jixiao was referring to the kidnapping incident and that she was feeling guilty for not finding Qin Yue immediately.
“Hey, Sister Jixiao is such a nice person! Why wouldn’t I be willing?” Qin Yue said with a smile. “Besides, you’ve helped me so many times! What’s wrong with taking care of you for once?”
After speaking, Qin Yue glanced at Ling Jixiao’s hair. Ah, it’s dry now!
Ling Jixiao carefully studied Qin Yue’s expression. She realized that Qin Yue genuinely held no resentment towards her, and in fact, Qin Yue had no idea that the mint-scented woman she’d mentioned was actually her!
Ling Jixiao raised her arm to block her eyes, laughing in exasperation. She wasn’t sure if she felt disappointment or relief. Through gritted teeth, she snapped:
“Qin Yue, are you completely clueless?”
