After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 19
Doctor Bai was speechless when he answered the call. “Young Miss Ling, why are you making me talk to your little boyfriend when you won’t do it yourself?”
“Because you’re a doctor,” Ling Jixiao replied coolly.
Finding no argument, Doctor Bai reluctantly headed to Qin Yue’s hospital room.
Qin Yue had recovered significantly and was now dressed in her own clothes, preparing to leave. Unsure if this upscale hospital operated like a regular public one—where she could simply check out and go—she was still pondering this when Doctor Bai arrived.
“Are you feeling any discomfort?” he asked calmly.
“I’m feeling great, thank you for asking, Doctor,” Qin Yue replied with a smile.
“Hmm.” After a pause, Doctor Bai continued, “My advice would be to stay another two days for observation. It’s best to be absolutely sure before leaving.”
Qin Yue knew the doctor’s advice was in her best interest, but she truly had no money left. The ambulance and previous hospitalization for her allergic reaction had drained her savings, and she now had to subsist on a meager diet to make ends meet. She couldn’t ask Grandma Qin for money; the old lady struggled just to keep the Xixing Sanatorium afloat.
Also, her bag was stolen during the kidnapping. While most of the contents weren’t important, her ID was inside, and she’d have to get a replacement, which would take time and money. She didn’t know how easy it would be to get a new ID in this world.
Thinking about this, Qin Yue looked worried. She really didn’t have the time or money to stay in the hospital.
“I don’t need to. I feel better now. I’ll take care of myself at school. Thank you, Doctor.” Qin Yue thought for two seconds before refusing Doctor Bai’s suggestion.
Seeing Qin Yue’s worried expression, Doctor Bai confirmed she was in a bad mood. He gritted his teeth and said, “Then you need to sign the discharge papers, stating that you’re leaving against medical advice. That’s the only way you can leave.”
Qin Yue was taken aback for a moment, but then she understood. This was standard hospital procedure. Some patients refused to listen to medical advice and left against recommendations, then got sick again and tried to blame the hospital. To prevent this, hospitals always made patients sign these papers when they insisted on leaving against advice.
“Okay,” Qin Yue nodded.
Seeing how determined Qin Yue was to leave, Doctor Bai reluctantly agreed.
As she left, Qin Yue thought, This hospital really cares about its patients. It’s so hard to find healthcare workers who are this concerned.
Watching Qin Yue enter the elevator and leave, Doctor Bai picked up his phone and dialed. “CEO Ling, there’s nothing I can do. She’s insisting on leaving.”
After a few seconds of silence, the other end replied, “Understood.”
“I told you, CEO Ling, you should be more gentle with your girlfriends. Don’t be so forceful. Look, your argument made her so upset she’s determined to leave…”
The line went dead. Ling Jixiao hung up before he could finish.
Staring at the tablet for a long time, Ling Jixiao couldn’t focus on a single word. Her mind kept replaying the thought: Could Qin Yue really be this angry? Angry enough that she doesn’t want to see me again?
In the passenger seat, Su Yao pursed her lips and glanced at Ling Jixiao through the rearview mirror.
Ling Jixiao noticed the look. “What do you want to say?”
“Should I speak as your subordinate or as your friend?” Su Yao asked.
Ling Jixiao rubbed her temples. “Friend.”
“Ling Jixiao, you devoured her completely and now refuse to take responsibility? You’re such a scumbag!”
Ling Jixiao remained silent.
Su Yao straightened her posture and adjusted her glasses. “Even if you don’t want to take responsibility, you could at least offer some compensation.”
Hearing this, Ling Jixiao felt a mix of exasperation and helplessness. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to compensate Qin Yue; after all, Qin Yue had even given her 200 yuan back after being wrongly accused of being forced into sex the first time. And now, even while hospitalized, Qin Yue insisted on repaying the debt. Offering compensation would only infuriate her further!
Ignoring the driver’s shocked expression, though he forced himself to remain calm, Ling Jixiao softly asked, “What about my subordinate?”
Su Yao clapped her hands earnestly. “CEO Ling, everything you’ve done is right! She just doesn’t know what’s good for her!”
Ling Jixiao: “……”
Qin Yue returned to school still exhausted. Since she’d already taken the day off, she went straight to her dormitory and fell asleep.
That evening, Bai Zhi brought her dinner.
Bai Zhi looked at Qin Yue’s haggard face and exclaimed, “You look completely drained!”
Qin Yue remained silent. How could Bai Zhi be so accurate?
Without answering, Qin Yue quickly ate and went back to bed.
Bai Zhi and Li Nuonuo considerately didn’t bother her.
The next day, after the first class ended, Bai Zhi dragged Qin Yue aside and demanded to know what had happened.
Qin Yue briefly recounted her harrowing kidnapping from two days earlier. Bai Zhi and Li Nuonuo listened in disbelief, almost thinking they were watching a TV drama.
“So… did they catch the kidnapper?” Li Nuonuo asked.
“Yes, they caught them,” Qin Yue replied. She omitted that the police had only apprehended two of the kidnappers, leaving one still at large. She figured it would be better for her roommates to believe the case was closed.
Bai Zhi and Li Nuonuo finally breathed sighs of relief.
“Why do you always get into such trouble? You shouldn’t leave campus anymore!” Bai Zhi said worriedly.
“It’s fine,” Qin Yue said helplessly. “I still have to work part-time. What would I eat if I didn’t?”
Seeing that Qin Yue wouldn’t budge, Bai Zhi stopped trying to persuade her.
However, hearing Qin Yue mention Ling Jixiao, Bai Zhi teased, “Could it be that your ‘good person’ sister actually has a crush on you and wants to pursue you?”
“Ah, that’s impossible!” Qin Yue quickly retorted. “She’s so accomplished—beautiful, wealthy, and a capable executive at a major corporation. She’d never be interested in someone like me!”
“Hmph, don’t underestimate my perception!” Bai Zhi winked at Qin Yue. “She’s an Alpha, after all! She stayed up all night with you to rescue someone, let you stay at her place, ordered you expensive medicinal meals while you were hospitalized, panicked and called the police when you were kidnapped, and even paid your hospital bills! She’s clearly interested in you!”
“That’s probably not true…” After listening to Bai Zhi’s analysis, Qin Yue felt her rebuttal was weak. Why does what Bai Zhi is saying sound so plausible?
“Alright, alright, I’m not in the mood for romance right now. Stop jumping to conclusions!” Qin Yue laughed and nudged Bai Zhi. “Maybe she’s just a beautiful and kind-hearted person who enjoys helping others!”
“Right, right, your kind-hearted sister is the kindest person around!” Bai Zhi replied half-heartedly, already convinced that Ling Jixiao, as Qin Yue described her, must have feelings for Qin Yue.
After class ended, Qin Yue, not feeling hungry, borrowed Bai Zhi’s notes to copy the day’s lectures at the library. Bai Zhi and Li Nuonuo went to the cafeteria for lunch first, then returned to their dorm.
Meanwhile, just as Qin Yue’s class was finishing, Ling Jixiao received a call from the police. They had found Qin Yue’s lost bag, but since they couldn’t reach Qin Yue directly, they’d called Ling Jixiao instead.
Ling Jixiao, busy reviewing documents on her computer in her office, kept the call on speaker with Su Yao, her trusted assistant, present.
Su Yao listened to the conversation, glancing cautiously at Ling Jixiao, wondering if she would seize this opportunity to visit A University and find an excuse to see Qin Yue.
Just as Su Yao thought this pretentious Ling Jixiao would definitely use this excuse to meet Qin Yue, Ling Jixiao tapped her finger on the desk.
“Su Yao, you go instead.”
Su Yao stared at Ling Jixiao in confusion.
Ignoring Su Yao, Ling Jixiao maintained her usual composure. “I have another meeting.”
As Ling Jixiao’s secretary, Su Yao knew very well that the upcoming meeting wasn’t important. It could easily have been handled by the vice president.
“Understood, CEO Ling,” Su Yao nodded, finished her work, and left the office.
After Su Yao departed, Ling Jixiao’s hands paused momentarily before resuming their work.
It’s not like Qin Yue is the only person in the world!
Though Qin Yue’s pheromones were undeniably alluring…
Ling Jixiao pressed her lips together, still feeling unsettled. She called Qin Yue, but there was no answer. Undeterred, she sent a text message, deliberately crafting it to read: “I found the bag you lost. I’ll deliver it to your dormitory building now.”
Watching the message send, the corners of Ling Jixiao’s lips curved slightly upward.
The mere thought of Qin Yue reluctantly showing up to meet her brought a twisted satisfaction. And when Qin Yue finally realized she’d been stood up… Ling Jixiao couldn’t help but imagine all sorts of possible reactions.
The library needed to be quiet, so Qin Yue silenced her phone. After finishing her notes, she decided to relax for a bit and took out her phone to scroll through messages. She saw several missed calls and messages.
One missed call was from Ling Jixiao, and the rest were from unknown numbers. Qin Yue never called back unknown numbers, figuring that if it was important, they’d call back.
Ling Jixiao had sent a message after seeing Qin Yue didn’t answer the call.
When Qin Yue read the message, her eyes lit up.
Her bag had been found! She wouldn’t have to waste time getting a new ID!
She quickly replied, “Thank you!”
The message had been sent a while ago, but there was no reply.
Qin Yue wasn’t planning to go back to the dormitory just yet, so she got up and went outside the library to call Bai Zhi and tell her the news.
Bai Zhi said she’d let Qin Yue know when the bag was delivered, and she’d come downstairs to pick it up.
Su Yao drove to retrieve Qin Yue’s bag and then headed to A University.
She knew which dormitory building Qin Yue lived in, but as it was a female Alpha dormitory, even though she, as a female Beta, could technically enter, she didn’t know Qin Yue’s specific room number.
After a moment’s thought, Su Yao decided to go to the dormitory building and ask the dormitory manager to deliver the bag to Qin Yue.
With that taken care of, Su Yao casually left.
Bai Zhi and Li Nuonuo had finished their meal and were walking back to their dormitory. Just as they were about to reach their building, Bai Zhi saw a tall woman approaching.
She recognized the woman: a senior executive from Minghui Group, a tall woman with striking Alpha features and a refined, elite demeanor.
Su Yao also saw Bai Zhi, recognized her, and gave a slight nod.
They passed each other.
A faint, delicate fragrance wafted through the air.
Unable to resist, Bai Zhi stopped and turned around, but only saw Su Yao’s retreating figure.
“What’s wrong?” Li Nuonuo asked, puzzled.
“Nothing,” Bai Zhi said, shaking her head.
As they reached their dormitory building and were about to go upstairs, the dormitory manager called them back.
“Someone delivered this bag, saying it belongs to Qin Yue in your dormitory,” the manager said.
Bai Zhi stared blankly at the bag.
Earlier, Qin Yue had said someone had returned her lost bag. Based on Qin Yue’s brief account of the kidnapping, she’d assumed it must have been her “good-hearted older sister” who had delivered it.
Qin Yue had once mentioned that this “good-hearted older sister” seemed to be a senior executive at Minghui Group.
During the earlier speech and award ceremony, a representative from the Minghui Group had come to present the award. It was Su Yao…
No way, could this be a coincidence?
Was the “good sister” Qin Yue mentioned the same person who presented the award from the Minghui Group that day?
In that moment, Bai Zhi felt a strange tightness in her chest, a mix of unease and confusion.
“Okay, thank you, Auntie!” Li Nuonuo took the bag from the dormitory auntie, her voice snapping Bai Zhi out of her thoughts.
“Thank you, Auntie,” Bai Zhi replied with a forced smile, her discomfort hidden from view.
