- Chapter 2 - Raising Children
Bai Qiuluo looked at the reactions of the three and instantly understood each of their personalities.
“You have been thoughtful, Junior Nephew.”
He spoke, mimicking the original owner’s demeanor from his memories. His cool, detached brows lowered slightly, and his thick, long eyelashes fluttered gently, yet the expression on his face remained completely unchanged, still resembling a piece of millennium-old ice that would never melt.
He glanced at the Sect Master, who understood this as a hint to take his leave.
“Ahem, Junior Uncle, there are other matters to attend to within the sect, so I shall take my leave first.”
Once the Sect Master departed, Bai Qiuluo felt a wave of relief wash over him. The Sect Master had spent a long time interacting with the original owner; even though he possessed the original owner’s memories, he worried about slipping up over time.
What was more, Bai Qiuluo was a full-fledged introvert. Fortunately, he was currently suffering from facial paralysis, or else he probably would have given himself away in front of these people at first glance.
Only he and these three little radishes remained in the main hall, even though he knew full well that these three were the male lead, female lead, and great villain of the book, entangled in various romantic and bitter feuds.
For now, however, they were merely a trio of eight- or nine-year-old kids.
“Since the three of you have entered the gates of my Misty Peak, you shall henceforth be Bai Qiuluo’s disciples.”
When Bai Qiuluo said these words, his expression appeared indifferent, but in reality, both of his hands were tucked deep inside his wide sleeves, nervously twisting his fingertips together in helplessness.
“The three of you are new to the immortal sect, so you must find many things unfamiliar. If you need anything or find yourselves lacking supplies, go find Qiuzhu within the peak.”
Bai Qiuluo’s tone was light and shallow, resembling a chilly breeze sweeping across the peak of a snowy mountain cool and heavy, failing to stir even a hint of desire to get close in anyone who heard it.
Phew~ Finally finished saying all that smoothly. It was worth practicing the draft so many times before they arrived.
Immersed in his own world, Bai Qiuluo breathed a quiet sigh of relief internally, completely failing to notice the flash of inquisitive probing in Shen Wang’s eyes as he looked at him.
“These three manuals match your respective paths of cultivation. If you encounter any questions you don’t understand along the way, feel free to come ask me at any time.”
Bai Qiuluo appeared entirely majestic and imposing on the outside, but inside he was frantically wringing his hands together in anxiety.
I’ve said everything I need to say. Hurry up and leave this place to go practice on your own.
A frail and pitiful inner voice echoed. Shen Wang confirmed that this was indeed Immortal Venerable Changheng’s inner monologue, and that he alone could hear it.
He involuntarily raised an eyebrow, though this gesture, coming from an eight- or nine-year-old child, carried an indescribable sense of comical cuteness.
Shen Wang certainly hadn’t expected that this so-called pillar of righteousness would be so remarkably two-faced.
If he were to drag him back to the Demon Realm, I wonder if this person would remain just as interesting.
The thought merely flashed through his mind for a split second, as he hadn’t forgotten that his purpose for infiltrating the Xuantian Sword Sect was to acquire the Tianyuan Sword.
Still, operating in such a young body was indeed rather inconvenient.
The male and female leads seemed somewhat frightened by Bai Qiuluo’s aloofness, instinctively huddling close together and chiming in with a synchronized “Yes.”
Silence descended once more upon the main hall. Bai Qiuluo sat cross-legged on the meditation mat, surrounded by an aura of chilling cold. His long robes pooled onto the ground, embroidered with archaic runes and scattered with faint stellar patterns.
“If there is nothing else, you may withdraw and practice.”
After gathering all his psychological fortitude, Bai Qiuluo slowly uttered these words.
Over the next few days, Bai Qiuluo holed himself up inside his palace, refusing to step outside.
All matters within the peak were left to Qiuzhu to manage, until a dispute broke out among the three youngsters, forcing Bai Qiuluo to emerge from his palace with a deep sense of helplessness.
“What is the meaning of this?”
Bai Qiuluo stood tall and straight, his hands clasped behind his back, a dense aura of sword intent swirling all around him.
With his gaze lowered, looking down at the three youngsters who barely reached his waist, he maintained an exterior of inviolable, cold majesty.
In reality, it was simply because this paralyzed face of his was incapable of forming any expressions.
Yet because his facial features were truly striking with elongated, upturned outer corners of his eyes it naturally carried a subtle allure.
Even so, the aloof chill between his brows suppressed this alluring charm, lending him an ethereal and unearthly grace instead.
He had long known that raising children wouldn’t be easy, let alone when the children he was raising happened to be the male and female leads alongside the great villain.
“Reporting to Master, it was all this disciple’s fault.”
The female lead, Su Yuanyuan, knelt on the ground with a tearful gleam in her bright, white eyes. Wearing her hair in twin buns and retaining a slight baby fat on her face, she looked both pitiful and adorable.
Beside her, the male lead, Fan Chen, turned his head away with a haughty expression, though the reddened corners of his eyes completely betrayed his true feelings.
Meanwhile, the great villain, Shen Wang, stood with his arms crossed over his chest, a gentle and refined smile still lingering on his face.
Looking at the expressions of the three, it was impossible to tell who was right and who was wrong. However, as Bai Qiuluo gazed at the trampled immortal herbs on the ground, his gaze shifted toward Qiuzhu standing nearby.
“Qiuzhu, tell me what happened here.”
“Reporting to the Immortal Venerable, Senior Sister Su and Senior Brother Fan began arguing over the ownership of this immortal herb.”
Qiuzhu phrased it very tactfully, and Bai Qiuluo recalled the plot from the original text.
There was indeed such a scene in the story: the male and female leads got acquainted through fighting, subsequently becoming a bickering, lovable pair of enemies.
“Both of you are to be confined for three days.”
Having understood the ins and outs of the matter, Bai Qiuluo decided to follow the established plot and place the male and female leads in confinement.
Confining eight- or nine-year-old male and female leads in the same enclosed space for three days would become a cherished memory for them later on, serving as the starting point of their romance.
The role of Master Changheng didn’t have much screen time to begin with, especially since he had only read a dozen or so chapters of the plot.
Bai Qiuluo resolved to honestly play the part of his background character, occasionally nudging the plot forward while enjoying the front-row seat to watch the love-hate entanglements between the leads and the great villain.
Raising children really never lets a person have a moment of peace.
Shen Wang’s eyes flickered as he heard his master’s inner voice once more.
Before him stood Bai Qiuluo, clad in snow-white robes, standing with his hands behind his back near the edge of a precipice. The howling cold wind whipped up his ink-black hair.
He stood rooted to the spot, radiating an aloof and ethereal aura. Qiuzhu had already led the male and female leads away down to the mountain ravine for confinement.
Across the entire peak of Tianxia Ravine, only the master and disciple remained.
“Master, this disciple Shen Wang is dull-witted and always encounters a bottleneck when studying cultivation techniques. I humbly ask Master to bestow your guidance upon me.”
Compared to the two mud-covered monkeys of male and female leads, the villain before him looked much more like a scion cultivated by a prestigious clan, carrying a refined upbringing in every single gesture.
Bai Qiuluo’s straight spine stiffened. He was not skilled at interacting with people, but facing such a young child made his social anxiety feel slightly less severe.
He glanced toward Shen Wang, finally taking a proper, thorough look at the great villain from the book.
The eight- or nine-year-old child wore a white robe, his dark hair secured by a jade crown. A gentle smile graced his features, and his every movement possessed the elegance of a young aristocrat.
His facial features were exquisite, and the remaining baby fat on his face added a touch of youthful cuteness.
