- Chapter 32 - Essentially a Rogue
Yue Xi could feel the hot breath on her chest. She raised a hand to cover her eyes, her throat tightening as she swallowed twice.
What kind of worldly suffering is this supposed to be?
Xiao Qing was playing on her own, completely disregarding Yue Xi’s torment. She leaned down to kiss her sister’s neck, her hand wandering over her waist.
She knew nothing—only acted on instinct.
A sharp sting on her neck—her collarbone had been caught between Xiao Qing’s teeth. She even ground lightly against it. Yue Xi inhaled sharply, then abruptly sat up, pressing the restless little kitten tightly into her arms.
“Xiao Qing, you can’t do that…”
Her voice was hoarse from holding herself back, her throat unbearably dry. She tried to swallow to soothe it, but it didn’t help.
Her heart pounded irregularly, each beat loud and forceful—how could Xiao Qing, lying against her chest, not hear it?
Xiao Qing placed a hand over her heart and tilted her head up. “Sister, your heart is beating so fast.”
Her pupils were dark as ink, but within them flickered tiny starlight—so bright that Yue Xi’s face was reflected inside.
Yue Xi stared into those eyes and saw herself—restrained to the extreme, as if she might transform into a beast stripped of reason in the next moment.
No. No!
Xiao Qing was still young, ignorant—Yue Xi couldn’t afford to be just as ignorant.
She kept warning herself. Lifting Xiao Qing, she changed the girl out of her damp nightdress and into something dry.
“Go wait outside for me.”
Xiao Qing pouted. “Can’t we wash together?”
Looking at her innocent little face, Yue Xi reached out to pat her head. “No. You’re already in clean clothes, you can’t get them wet again. You don’t want Sister to be washing your clothes all the time, right?”
“I can wash them myself.” Xiao Qing hooked her little finger around Yue Xi’s hand, reluctant to part.
Yue Xi kissed her cheek lightly. “Good children are the most likable. Tomorrow, Sister will take you out to play.”
Because of their special line of work, they had freedom, but during filming they had stayed close to the crew, never leaving to avoid accidents.
On such a beautiful island, wouldn’t it be a shame not to go out and have fun?
At the promise, Xiao Qing’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Really?”
Yue Xi smiled and nodded. “Really.”
“Just the two of us?”
“Just the two of us.”
Xiao Qing stood on tiptoe, planted a kiss on Yue Xi’s lips, and grinned brightly. “I like Sister the most!”
Without waiting to be urged, she skipped out of the bathroom.
Yue Xi touched her lips, still warm from the kiss. With a bitter laugh, she turned on the cold water and stood under the shower, forcing the fire in her body to cool down.
Xiao Qing dangled her legs from the bed as she waited. When Yue Xi came out, her eyes landed on those pale, slender legs and delicate little feet—only to feel that the cold shower had been a waste.
“Sis—mmm!”
Before Xiao Qing could even finish calling out, a quilt landed on her, thrown by Yue Xi.
Yue Xi wrapped her up tight like a cocoon. “The wind’s strong at night. Stay under the covers.”
Only her head peeked out, her eyes blinking at Yue Xi.
“Sister, why is your face so red?”
Yue Xi touched her cheek—it really was burning hot. She forced calm. “Maybe the bathroom was too hot. Sleep now.”
She climbed into bed, lying with her back to Xiao Qing, taking up as little space as possible—like there was a galaxy between them.
Unhappy, Xiao Qing squirmed closer, kicked the blanket off again, and wrapped her arms around Yue Xi from behind.
“Did I do something wrong?”
Her airy little voice sounded muffled. Yue Xi’s chest tightened with guilt. She clasped the hand on her waist.
“No, don’t overthink. Just sleep.”
Xiao Qing buried her face into the back of her sister’s neck, her soft breaths brushing over Yue Xi’s ear and making her shiver.
“Then why won’t you look at me?”
Her hand grew bolder, creeping upward from Yue Xi’s waist…
Yue Xi quickly rolled over, pinning down the restless hand.
“Sleep properly. Don’t tease Sister anymore.”
Xiao Qing leaned closer, her clear eyes wide. “What does tease mean?”
Her little face was right before Yue Xi’s, their noses nearly touching. Yue Xi’s gaze fell on her lips—pink and soft, parting as she spoke. The sight was dangerously tempting.
She forced her eyes away, her voice tight. “Be good. Sleep now.”
But Xiao Qing’s hand slid up her spine like a snake, pressing lightly.
Yue Xi’s breath hitched. She tried to catch the hand, but a sudden kiss stunned her still. Xiao Qing climbed onto her again, pressing her lips against hers.
Clumsy, naïve—Yue Xi’s first thought. But that very inexperience made it all the more enticing.
The string in her mind snapped. So much for being proper! Let someone else play the gentleman—she wouldn’t!
With that thought, everything suddenly made sense. Maybe she had always been a rogue at heart, or she wouldn’t be losing control so easily.
She wrapped her arms around Xiao Qing’s slim waist, holding her tightly, taking the lead in the kiss. She pried past the weak resistance of her teeth, breaths mingling.
Xiao Qing soon grew weak, going limp against her chest like a harmless little rabbit.
When her breath ran out, she began to suffocate slightly, but Yue Xi still didn’t let go, fingers curling around her throat as the kiss deepened further.
The real suffocating sensation made Xiao Qing light-headed. She felt like she was floating on clouds—soft, warm, more comfortable than even basking under the Fusang tree millennia ago.
Yue Xi was completely lost in it, only realizing after a long time what she had done. She hastily released Xiao Qing’s neck.
The girl’s face was flushed red, eyes dazed, panting against her shoulder.
“Xiao Qing, I’m sorry, I—”
Xiao Qing pulled back just enough to look at her, her gaze intense, clear as ever.
“Again.”
Yue Xi blinked. “What… again?”
Xiao Qing took her hand and pressed it back to her throat. “This. Do it again.”
Yue Xi: “…”
Yue Xi: “?!”
How could she even say that?! She looked so soft and delicate, yet liked this? Had Yue Xi just unlocked something dangerous?
What a sin!
But Xiao Qing’s eyes gleamed with expectation and excitement, and Yue Xi’s heart raced under her gaze. Against reason, her fingers tightened around that slender neck once more.
Xiao Qing leaned up and kissed her, biting her lips. “Sister, your mouth tastes so good.”
“Hm?” Yue Xi muttered vaguely.
Xiao Qing released her and smiled innocently. “Your lips are sweet and soft—like ice cream.”
Yue Xi chuckled under her breath. So she had become food in Xiao Qing’s eyes.
The girl tilted her head up, her pale little face so obedient and pure it made Yue Xi want to ruin it.
A dark desire stirred inside her. Her eyes turned stormy as her grip on that fragile neck grew heavier.
Xiao Qing’s mouth opened, her eyes watering at the corners. She clutched at Yue Xi’s hand, calling softly for her sister.
Tears welled up in her beautiful eyes and streamed into her hair.
Yue Xi bent down, kissing away the tears at her lashes, then sealed her lips once more.
