- Chapter 8 - Writing a Letter
Su Mi knew herself to be a “clod” who never read romance novels, and thus, she had no idea what the most appropriate course of action was in this situation.
If one wanted to touch the heroine’s heart… perhaps… a letter?
She had heard that many people expressed their feelings through letter-writing.
Good, writing a letter—that’s a solid choice.
No sooner said than done. Su Mi began rummaging through her cabinets.
Deep within a dust-covered corner of the bookcase, she actually managed to unearth two greeting cards sent by Shen Han.
The handwriting on them was sharp and powerful, flowing like moving clouds and drifting water. They contained a few words of blessing, followed by Shen Han’s signature at the end.
Su Mi spent half an hour studying the structure of the brushstrokes in Shen Han’s writing before she began, full of confidence.
She was very self-assured in her ability to mimic handwriting, and she set her pen to paper with meticulous care.
[Nanqiao,]
Su Mi had originally wanted to write an opening like “Dear Nanqiao,” but she hadn’t seen Shen Han’s English handwriting and didn’t want to make things up haphazardly.
She bit the end of her pen, pondered her phrasing, and continued writing:
[I heard that you were induced into a susceptibility period. My heart aches for you deeply. I am currently sending people to investigate. If I catch the mastermind behind this, I will certainly… (Crossed out)]
[I heard from Su Mi about what happened yesterday. Do not worry; I will resolve this matter and will certainly give you an explanation. The hospital from yesterday is under the Shen Corporation. Attached to this letter is a hospital gold card… (Crossed out)]
Su Mi tossed the paper into the trash.
She started over once more.
It’s so hard. Why do people even fall in love?
The System, watching this entire series of actions from its host, was speechless. “…”
The System asked hesitantly, “Host, are you sure you want to write a letter?”
Su Mi replied, “Yes. There is no problem with my handwriting imitation.”
System: “…It’s not a problem with the handwriting.”
It watched as Su Mi sat before a fresh sheet of stationery, paused for a moment, and began writing yet another old-fashioned opening. It couldn’t help but say, “Host, are you sure it’s useful to bring a forged letter like this to Xu Nanqiao?”
This “usefulness” included whether Xu Nanqiao would believe it was written by Shen Han, whether she would accept it, and whether the two of them would discover the discrepancy when comparing notes later.
Su Mi said, “First, my handwriting will definitely not be wrong. Second, regardless of whether Xu Nanqiao is willing to accept it, I believe this conveys a sentiment. Finally, this letter is entirely based on the will Shen Han expressed to me, asking me to write to Xu Nanqiao.”
System: ?
It confusedly returned to its database and flipped through the data on Su Mi before her transmigration.
How does she sound like she’s making sense while actually being completely nonsensical…
After crumpling seven or eight sheets of paper in a row, Su Mi finally settled on a version that was concise and to the point.
In a tone that roughly matched Shen Han’s, it briefly expressed concern regarding Xu Nanqiao’s attack and then gave a guarantee that the matter would be resolved.
Su Mi satisfiedly put away her work, then opened her schoolbag and light-brain.
She began checking the answers to today’s test papers one by one, cross-referencing them with the knowledge points in her current textbooks to confirm exactly how much she didn’t understand.
This continued until the middle of the night.
The next morning, when Secretary Zhuang arrived at Su Mi’s house, they were eating breakfast.
Su Mi yawned as she opened the door for Secretary Zhuang. Upon seeing him, she inexplicably let out another yawn.
Secretary Zhuang’s face was as cold as ever, showing no expression behind his gold-rimmed glasses.
However, why did the Secretary seem to have a sense of irritability similar to her own, born from a lack of sleep?
Su Mi said, “Good morning, Secretary Zhuang.”
Secretary Zhuang also offered a polite greeting before handing a small envelope to Su Mi.
“Miss Su Mi, this was entrusted to you by President Shen.”
Su Mi thanked him and pinched the envelope; it was hard inside, likely the gold card Shen Han had mentioned.
Su Mi asked, “Have you had breakfast, Secretary Zhuang? Would you like to come in and have some? The fresh coffee is very effective for a wake-up call.”
Secretary Zhuang replied, “Thank you, Miss Su Mi. It is indeed my breakfast time now, but I have to pick up President Shen shortly, so I won’t disturb you further.”
Su Mi: ?
She watched Secretary Zhuang’s departing back, feeling a bit hesitant. “System, was he being sarcastic?”
The System floated a question mark bubble.
Su Mi admired the beauty of the gold card against the morning sun for a moment before putting it away properly.
“I’m doing this for their President’s lifelong happiness and the safety of our world. He’ll understand my painstaking efforts in the future,” Su Mi sighed.
Returning to the dining table, Su Mi briefly explained to Wen Zisu that Secretary Zhuang had come to deliver something for Shen Han.
After gulping down a large cup of coffee, Su Mi pinched her brother’s face and leaned in to whisper, “Xiao Yi, Sister is going to work hard on her tasks to earn toys for you.”
Xiao Yi only heard the word “toys.” His little hands clapped together. “Toys! Xiao Yi likes toys!”
Su Ciyu had just walked downstairs and, hearing this, said, “Xiao Yi already has enough toys. Yaya, don’t buy them recklessly.”
Su Mi smiled. “Mhm, I know.”
At school, after the morning self-study session ended, Su Mi handed her forged letter and the gold card to Xu Nanqiao.
“Nanqiao, Sister asked me to bring these to you. She said it was to comfort you for yesterday… you know.”
Xu Nanqiao took them, looking very dazed. She first opened the letter, her face full of confusion and doubt as she finished reading the handwriting.
Then she took out the gold card and looked at it front and back.
She thought for a moment, then frowned and handed the two items back to Su Mi.
Xu Nanqiao said softly, “Su Mi, please tell President Shen that I cannot accept this.”
Su Mi asked, “Not even the gold card? The facilities at that hospital are quite good.”
Xu Nanqiao replied, “I have an agreement with her. The money she pays for my schooling is already more than enough. These things… I’m not sure…”
She rubbed the stationery in her hand, then opened it to examine it again.
“It just feels a bit strange. Shen Han shouldn’t be the kind of person who would write this kind of letter to me, right?”
Su Mi blinked and said, “I think it’s quite like her. Yesterday I told her what happened, and she said very angrily that even if she had to flip the ground of the Capital upside down, she would dig out the mastermind for you!”
Xu Nanqiao: “…”
She gave a look that was hard to describe.
“Su Mi, why does this tone sound a bit like you?”
Su Mi: !
However, Xu Nanqiao did not dwell on it. She firmly gave the gold card and the letter back to Su Mi, telling her to return them to Shen Han when she had the chance.
Su Mi suddenly felt a bit dejected.
But she persisted.
She placed the two items on her desk, took a photo, and began editing a post for her friend circle.

This time, she remembered to block Shen Han.
By the second break between classes, Xu Nanqiao, who had seen the post, walked over to Su Mi’s seat and “viciously” pinched Su Mi’s ear.
Xu Nanqiao: “What kind of rumors are you posting in your friend circle? Delete it quickly!”
“Okay, okay.” Su Mi opened her friend circle. As usual, there was a long string of likes and comments, mostly consisting of question marks just like the last one.
Someone had already guessed it was related to Xu Nanqiao.
Su Mi couldn’t help but mutter softly, “It’s not really a rumor… posting it makes them wary of you, so they won’t dare to bully you in the future.”
Xu Nanqiao: “…”
Su Mi looked up at her, believing that Xu Nanqiao’s expression of biting her lip represented being moved.
Then, her poor ear was pinched again.
However, the letter and the gold card on the desk were taken away.
Xu Nanqiao: “If you have time for this, give me the test papers I asked you to do yesterday first. Midterm exams are next month. If you want to get into Capital University, you still need to study properly, you know?”
Su Mi: “…Oh.”
While she rummaged through her bag to hand the papers to Xu Nanqiao, she happily said to the System, “System, see? It was useful after all.”
System: “…”
System: “Host, are you an idiot?”
Su Mi was somewhat confused. “Huh? Of course not.”
She took the textbook for the next class out of her bag and said very seriously to the System, “I’ve never placed outside the top three in any exam I’ve taken since I was a child. My Gaokao score was 668, my university GPA was 3.98/4, and before I died, I worked at a top 2 firm in the industry. My performance ratings for both years after joining were the highest in the department.”
System: “No… I mean to say, there might be something wrong with your method of playing wingman… I’ll send you some novel materials; you should study them.”
“Alright,” Su Mi said. “Thank you. Perhaps my knowledge in this area is indeed not very rich. My apologies.”
After a moment, the System sent back a smiley face: “Let’s work hard for the mission together.”
Su Mi couldn’t send an emoji back like the System, so she opened her scratch paper and drew a similar smiley face in the blank space.
For the next two days, Su Mi followed Xu Nanqiao and studied seriously every day.
When school let out on Friday, one of the girls from the “Sisters Group” came to find Su Mi.
It was the friend “Y” from the group, named Yang Er, a gentle girl who spoke in a soft, hesitating voice.
She stood somewhat timidly in front of Su Mi and said, “Susu… TIFI is holding a dessert and jewelry exhibition this weekend. Do you want to go see it together? Last time we said we’d celebrate you finishing your differentiation period.”
Since her differentiation, other than being relatively enthusiastic and pretending to communicate with them on the first day she returned, Su Mi had hardly taken the initiative to speak to them starting from the second day.
The group had suffered Su Mi’s cold shoulder for several days. Aside from the one with a guilty conscience, the other two were worried sick. After some discussion, they decided to take the initiative to make peace.
Su Mi gave an “oh” and said, “I’m afraid I can’t this weekend. After differentiating into a Beta, I feel that Holy Cross Academy isn’t suitable for me. So, in order to get into Capital University, I’ve been tutoring lately.”
Yang Er froze. “Capital University?”
Su Mi said considerately and gently, “Yes. Also, the security at our school hasn’t been great lately. Last time, Nanqiao and I were cornered by people outside the school. I heard they specifically target students from Lolan Public School to bully. Although I’ve already asked my sister to investigate these hoodlum groups, you should still be careful when going out this weekend.”
Initially, Su Mi had thought about seriously maintaining the original host’s plastic sisterhood, as it was technically part of the character setting.
But the mastermind among them had already gone as far as wanting an Alpha to bully and mark Xu Nanqiao—a level of evil that exceeded Su Mi’s tolerance. Coupled with having already asked the antagonist to investigate, Su Mi felt it was better to keep her distance for a while.
Furthermore, she had tested it; although she hadn’t bothered with the sisters’ group for several days, she hadn’t received any alerts from the System about violating her character setting.
For a petty-minded “cannon fodder” character like the original host, it was likely reasonable to lose patience after discovering the people around her had other motives and were making small moves behind her back.
After Su Mi finished speaking, she gave the three of them a slow and meaningful look, then shouldered her bag and walked away gracefully.
However, just as she walked out of the classroom, she saw a familiar figure standing at the end of the corridor.
A prim and proper suit, gold-rimmed glasses, black elite short hair, and a poker face.
Su Mi whipped her head back.
Xu Nanqiao had a part-time job tonight and had already left long ago.
Then is he looking for me?
