After Transmigrating into a Book, I Was Entangled by the Paranoid Eldest Princess - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Hearing an answer she had never even dared to imagine, Wen Chenqing stood frozen in place, not daring to even blink, for fear of startling and scattering this dreamlike night.
Watching A-Jin draw closer, the moment she reached out and grasped her hand, Wen Chenqing even stopped breathing.
“You dummy, can’t you see my feelings?” A-Jin knit her moth-eyebrows slightly, glaring at her with a mix of feigned anger and reproach.
That word “dummy” was like a command; Wen Chenqing finally dared to breathe again.
“I…” she opened her mouth clumsily. A-Jin’s body heat traveled through the contact of their palms straight to her heart, giving her a sprout of courage. “How could I possibly spend every day wondering if others like me?”
That would be far too narcissistic.
A-Jin shot her a look: “Just a moment ago, you were questioning whether I was trying to seduce you.”
Even though she was being glared at, Wen Chenqing felt as if she were tasting a thousand varieties of flirtatious reproach within that look. Not only was she not annoyed, she even wanted to look a few more times.
“Sleeping in one bed because of fear is considered normal. It’s clearly not cold this season, yet wanting to sleep under the same quilt is a bit strange,” she murmured in explanation. The backs of her ears turned red again; fortunately, it was night, and A-Jin couldn’t see.
A-Jin gave a soft huff, starting to settle the score: “You even questioned my sincerity.”
At this mention, Wen Chenqing was still a bit dazed. Did A-Jin truly like her?
Seeing that she was still doubting, Si Jinghua’s eyes shifted, and she asked intentionally: “Have you forgotten how I lost my memory?”
Wen Chenqing said hurriedly: “Of course I remember.”
A-Jin had fled precisely because she didn’t want to get married. She understood what A-Jin meant by bringing this up now, but previously, she had firmly believed that A-Jin’s actions were merely born from a lack of security.
“Though I have lost my memory, how can a person’s character be so easily changed? Even without my memories, I am not the type of person who would use such matters for schemes.”
Seeing her looking somewhat sad, Wen Chenqing couldn’t help but feel guilty.
“I didn’t think of you that way.” She reached back and squeezed A-Jin’s hand tightly, saying firmly: “It was just my own lack of self-confidence; it has nothing to do with you.”
Si Jinghua found this quite amusing. Determined to force Wen Chenqing to admit it personally, she looked up and asked: “What do you mean by that?”
“…”
Wasn’t this asking her to admit she had been attracted by her beauty from the very beginning?
Wen Chenqing took three deep, nervous breaths, but her heart was still thumping like a drum.
Amidst the noisy tremors, she pursed her lips and seriously declared her feelings: “It was I who originally harbored other thoughts about you; I liked you a little. But because we haven’t known each other long, I held these feelings inside, not daring to believe that you might also have such intentions.”
In truth, from start to finish, Wen Chenqing had been suppressing her thoughts. She felt as though she were merely lusting after her beauty, and since A-Jin was alone and helpless, if she revealed anything, it would feel like taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable position.
But she had come to terms with it.
After all, among the thousands of people in the world, she had lived so many years—why hadn’t she been “attracted by beauty” to anyone else before?
So it wasn’t called lusting after beauty; it was “stunning at first sight” plus “love growing over time.”
As for taking advantage… she had figured that out too. She simply wasn’t that kind of person, so why make things difficult for her first experience of a racing heart?
“So, A-Jin, you like me too, right?” Wen Chenqing asked solemnly once more.
Si Jinghua raised an eyebrow and smiled, very satisfied with Wen Chenqing’s serious attitude. She admitted straightforwardly: “Yes, A-Jin likes you.”
It was the amnesiac orphan A-Jin, not the Eldest Princess of the Great Yong, Si Jinghua.
Wen Chenqing pursed her lips and smiled. Her bright eyes curved into two crescent moons, and her fair face was flushed through with crimson, looking utterly delectable.
Si Jinghua’s gaze darkened slightly, and she took the opportunity to lean into her embrace.
With warm fragrance and soft jade suddenly in her arms, Wen Chenqing, experiencing this for the first time, went stiff all over.
A-Jin burrowed into her embrace, wrapping her arms around her waist and asking: “A-Qing, do you still resist my touch now?”
At this point, resisting would not only be inappropriate but also very tactless, wouldn’t it?
Wen Chenqing let her hold her. Her two hands didn’t yet dare to hug her back, hanging emptily at her sides.
“Our hearts are now open to each other; we are mutually in love.” When mentioning these terms, Wen Chenqing’s body gradually relaxed. “Right, A-Jin?”
She couldn’t help but seek confirmation from A-Jin. For some reason, she felt that only this could give her a sense of reality and peace of mind.
A-Jin said without hesitation: “Naturally.”
The corners of Wen Chenqing’s lips turned up a bit more.
Since she promised so quickly, it seems our feelings are the same.
“The night is late; let go of me, let’s go back to rest.”
She felt A-Jin nuzzle her with her head once more before releasing her.
Tonight, Wen Chenqing’s emotions had been a roller coaster, but she had gained much.
She walked into the house joyfully, only then remembering the trigger for all of this.
“A-Jin, where on earth did you put my quilt?” Wen Chenqing had even opened the cabinets to look, but she really couldn’t find it.
“What are you looking for the quilt for?”
Wen Chenqing said as a matter of course: “To sleep.”
Since they had confessed to each other, surely the quilt used for testing could be returned to her.
Wen Chenqing’s bright eyes clearly conveyed this meaning.
A-Jin curled her lips into a smile, adding a touch of enchantment: “Since we have clarified our feelings, why look for that bedding again?”
“…” Wen Chenqing was so startled she started to stutter. “Wha—what? You mean… we share one quilt?”
A-Jin said: “Naturally.”
This progress is way too fast!
In this moment, Wen Chenqing began to doubt whether A-Jin was the ancient person or if she was.
In the pace of dating as she understood it, being able to hold hands on the first day of a relationship was already considered very fast.
Wait—before they were even “dating,” A-Jin seemed to hold her hand frequently, and today she had already hugged her.
Wen Chenqing felt the heat on her face, which had just subsided, showing signs of rising again.
“Isn’t this… not very good?”
“What’s not good?” Si Jinghua was interested in her, and this interest naturally included her body.
While Wen Chenqing was still hesitating, A-Jin had already pulled her by the hand to sit on the bed.
“You push back so much—do you still have reservations about me in your heart?” A-Jin’s voice sounded as if she were about to weep. “Or is it that, in the end, I am not worthy, and what you said before was just to soothe me?”
“Of course not!” Wen Chenqing immediately clarified for herself. “It’s just that I haven’t adapted yet; it has nothing to do with you. Don’t overthink it.”
Fearing that A-Jin would overthink and feel bad, Wen Chenqing pulled her and burrowed into the covers.
The two wore their sleeping robes, and beneath the brocade quilt, their two warm bodies were pressed together.
A long while passed.
Her body had grown stiff from lying there, but sleepiness still wouldn’t come.
Wen Chenqing sensed A-Jin’s hand hooking onto hers under the quilt, her voice soaked with a hint of a smile: “A-Qing, do you usually sleep so rigidly?”
“Yes.” The darkness blurred her burning face but couldn’t hide the thumping of her heart. Wen Chenqing spoke up hurriedly in an attempt to cover it: “Is it too crowded?”
A-Jin said: “Not crowded. This is just right.”
As soon as she spoke, Wen Chenqing felt the person beside her move. In the next second, the warm and soft A-Jin burrowed into her arms. Those dexterous hands explored and searched under the quilt—making Wen Chenqing’s body tighten instinctively—until they finally stopped.
Her waist was once again embraced by A-Jin.
A-Jin’s face was even pressed against her chest.
Wen Chenqing was truly afraid her heartbeat would be too loud for A-Jin. She asked tentatively: “Won’t it be uncomfortable like this?”
“Nonsense, it’s clearly very comfortable.”
As A-Jin spoke, she even nuzzled her face against her.
“!”
She’s nuzzling against my chest!
Wen Chenqing’s face exploded in red.
She had heard people say that motorboating/burying one’s face was very comfortable, but she really hadn’t expected that one day such a thing would happen to her.
A-Jin continued: “If you don’t believe it, you can try.”
Try what? Do exactly what she’s doing?
Wen Chenqing felt as if steam were about to rise from her head. She refused tremulously: “No… it’s late. Let’s just sleep.”
Before falling asleep, Wen Chenqing dizzily followed the movements of the person in her arms and rested her hand on her back.
—Sleeping together in an embrace on the first day of dating… is this speed normal?
The thought flashed by, and then Wen Chenqing sank completely into a chaotic dreamland.
