After Transmigrating into a Book, I Was Entangled by a Crazy and Beautiful Villain - Chapter 6
The air fell silent. Song Linlin felt a wave of scorn directed at her. Heaven helps her, why did she just witness a snake rolling its eyes?
The next moment, the small silver snake on the bed vanished, and Chi Qianning appeared, sitting cross-legged on the edge of the bed. Her silvery-white long hair cascaded down, scattering across the sheets.
Song Linlin was close enough to see that stunning, beautiful face when she looked up. The difference was that Chi Qianning’s complexion was even paler than the last time she saw her, making Linlin fear she might weakly faint onto the bed in the next second.
The crimson eyes held no discernible emotion but were clearly heavy with fatigue. Chi Qianning merely gave Song Linlin a brief glance before closing her eyes again, unwilling to waste any energy.
How is she looking weaker than I am?
Song Linlin silently retracted her fingers, stood up, and retreated to the table, taking a seat in her previous chair.
The room was quiet for a while, awkwardness filling the space. Feeling that simply sitting there was not going to work, Song Linlin tentatively asked, “Um… would you like some water?”
Chi Qianning opened her lightly closed eyes. She said nothing, yet didn’t refuse. Song Linlin picked up a clean cup, lifted the kettle, and poured a glass of clear water.
“Here you go. It’s cold water, though.”
The other woman took the cup and sipped lightly, only drinking half to wet her throat before handing the cup back. Chi Qianning let out a soft breath and looked somewhat more energized.
Sensing that Song Linlin was still watching and scrutinizing her, Chi Qianning’s voice was flat as she counter-questioned, “What? Do you think I’m about to die?”
“How could I? Nothing of the sort.” Song Linlin drew back her gaze.
“Is that so? Then put away that expression.” Chi Qianning closed her eyes, also avoiding looking at Song Linlin, and stated in a frosty tone, “Although my condition is poor, dealing with a small fry like you is still effortless.”
Song Linlin was rendered speechless. She regretted giving this person water; she should have just let her die of thirst. My goodwill was completely wasted.
She sullenly muttered, “Oh,” crossed her arms over her chest, and grumbled at the heartless silver-haired beauty, “But this is my bed, and I want to sleep now.”
“I didn’t say you couldn’t get on it.”
“Huh?”
Song Linlin looked at her, then at the bed. This was a premium room, and the bed was certainly large enough for three or four people.
Chi Qianning only occupied a small fraction while sitting. There was plenty of space left even if Linlin lay down. With Chi Qianning’s comment, Song Linlin realized she wasn’t wrong.
It’s my bed anyway, why should I be afraid to use it just because someone else is sitting there?
However, she was currently covered in dirt, and Song Linlin didn’t want to fill the warm quilt with dust and grass clippings. She remembered that Ye Tingran had instructed the inn servant to prepare hot water for her.
Just as she was thinking this, a knock came at the door. The servant’s voice sounded through the wooden barrier: “Miss, may I come in? I’ve brought your hot water.”
“Wait a moment!”
Song Linlin shouted to the outside, then turned to Chi Qianning, leaning in to whisper, “Someone’s coming in, do you want to hide?”
“It is fine. Mortals cannot see me,” Chi Qianning shook her head.
“Alright then.”
Since she could be invisible to others, Song Linlin didn’t bother with her, rushing to open the door. Right now, she just wanted to take a bath immediately and go to sleep.
The inn servant was followed by several other workers, all carrying buckets of steaming hot water. Song Linlin stepped aside to let them in.
Once the large, dedicated wooden tub in the room was full and Song Linlin tested that the temperature was right, the workers exited the room. As expected, they hadn’t seen Chi Qianning at all.
Song Linlin took out the clothes she planned to change into. Looking at Chi Qianning on the bed, whose clothes were also ripped and tattered, she politely offered, “Do you want to wash up too?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Song Linlin realized her mistake. To everyone else, she was alone. What was she doing, offering to take two baths?
Fortunately, Chi Qianning shook her head. “I have a Body Cleansing Technique.”
“Good.” Song Linlin sighed in relief. “Then I’ll go wash up. No one should be bothering us now.”
She held her clothes and retreated behind the screen on the other side of the room. Her discarded garments were carelessly tossed onto the floor. After pinning up her hair, Song Linlin finally soaked herself in the warm bathwater.
After a long night of hard work, soaking in the hot bath felt like a liberation of the soul. Song Linlin leaned back, not even wanting to move a finger.
Amidst the rising steam, she relaxed and drifted off to sleep without realizing it.
When Chi Qianning opened her eyes again, the sun was high outside the window, and the streets were bustling with people. All sorts of noisy sounds filtered through the window.
To her, who was accustomed to a quiet environment, this place was simply too loud.
She formed a hand seal, flicked her finger lightly, and the room instantly fell silent, with no external noise reaching them.
Chi Qianning stepped off the bed and slowly walked over to the nearby tea table. She lifted the teapot and poured herself a cup of water.
The water in the cup was downed in one go. Rubbing her fingers against the teacup, Chi Qianning belatedly remembered that Song Linlin had gone to bathe and hadn’t made a sound since.
I should check on her.
Her own state was truly embarrassing—the edges of her red dress were torn, and there was no clean spot on it. After casting the Body Cleansing Technique on herself again, Chi Qianning walked toward the screen.
She genuinely suspected that this weak, ant-like creature might have drowned herself by soaking in the water.
To Chi Qianning, whose life was long and power immense, a Foundation Establishment stage human was like a fragile flower in the storm—they could wither prematurely even without external interference, perhaps just by a gust of wind.
Until she could find another solution, Song Linlin should not die yet.
As Chi Qianning drew closer, she could gradually see the pile of clothes Song Linlin had carelessly tossed on the floor. Her expression remained unchanged; she merely glanced at them and looked away.
Walking up to the side of the screen, her view was no longer blocked. Song Linlin’s head was resting on the edge of the tub, her eyes tightly closed. Her face, flushed from the steam, showed steady breathing. She was clearly asleep.
Chi Qianning was momentarily at a loss for words, though on second thought, it was somewhat expected. Looking at the sleeping figure, Chi Qianning leaned against the screen and spoke softly, “Song Linlin.”
Soaking in the water, Song Linlin faintly heard someone calling her. She opened her eyes, her mind still foggy, and vaguely noticed a person standing nearby watching her. She subconsciously asked, “Mmm… who are you?”
When Song Linlin finally got a clear look at the person’s face, she instantly sobered up. She immediately covered her chest, tried to shrink down as much as possible, and panicked slightly:
“Waa! You… you… why did you walk over without saying a word?”
Chi Qianning looked at her flustered state, showing no intention of turning away. She spoke with the same impassive expression: “I have no interest in the bodies of mortals.”
“I just wanted to see if someone had drowned herself. I didn’t expect you to fall asleep.”
The other woman was so utterly transparent that Song Linlin felt even more awkward. She only let her eyes show, the lower half of her face hidden behind the tub, as she looked at Chi Qianning.
It was only then that she noticed the other woman had changed clothes. The originally tattered red dress had been replaced by a simple, serene moon-white robe. Though plain, the garment was far from ordinary, embroidered with dark patterns that Song Linlin couldn’t understand. This attire added a touch of cold detachment to Chi Qianning.
Song Linlin couldn’t help but stare for a few more seconds before stuttering, “Alright… then, then you should go back first. I need to get dressed.”
The water temperature had dropped, leaving only residual warmth. It was a good thing Chi Qianning had come to wake her, or she might have fallen ill from soaking longer.
Chi Qianning said nothing more and, true to her word, simply turned and left after confirming Song Linlin wasn’t dead.
Only after the other woman disappeared from her sight did Song Linlin reach for the clean clothes she had prepared. Once dressed, she was too lazy to deal with the dirty clothes, leaving them on the floor.
Song Linlin walked back to the bed. Chi Qianning was already sitting on the far side, eyes closed, meditating to recover. Song Linlin didn’t have her boundless energy; she was still exhausted despite her short nap.
The bed is huge, and she said earlier she didn’t mind. Song Linlin quickly kicked off her shoes and climbed onto the outer side of the bed. She pulled the quilt over her entire body, and the two peacefully shared the same bed.
Before long, she was fast asleep.
A knock sounded, followed by a gentle female voice from outside the door: “Junior Sister Song, are you awake? It’s noon already. I’ve brought your lunch up.”
The sound woke Song Linlin. She poked her head out from the warm covers and glanced at the high sun outside, still a little disoriented.
It’s noon already? Why was it so quiet outside?
She didn’t have time to ponder that. She bolted upright, her hair a mess, realizing that someone was knocking—and she wasn’t alone in the bed!
Fearing the person might suddenly push the door open, Song Linlin immediately shouted loudly to the outside, “Alright, Senior Sister, please wait! I’ll come open the door right away!”
She turned to look at Chi Qianning, who was completely unfazed, still sitting where she was, now staring back at the newly awakened Song Linlin.
“Why are you still sitting there?”
Song Linlin muttered softly, panicked grabbing the quilt and pushing Chi Qianning down onto the bed. Chi Qianning was clearly stunned, not expecting the sudden lunge, and was genuinely pinned down for a moment.
“Shh!”
Song Linlin held her down. They were very close. Chi Qianning’s silvery-white eyelashes blinked, her crimson eyes fixed on the person in front of her. The other woman’s black hair brushed against her face, tickling slightly.
“Just hide for a moment! It’ll be over soon!”
Song Linlin whispered, and without waiting for the other woman to say anything, she quickly pulled the quilt over Chi Qianning’s face, frantically stuffing her silvery-white hair under the covers as well.
Having done all that, Song Linlin immediately scurried off the bed, slipped on her shoes, and pattered over to the door to pull it open.
The door swung open, revealing not Ye Tingran, but Senior Sister Zhiyu. Zhiyu offered Song Linlin a gentle smile and said softly, “Junior Sister Song, you don’t need to be so flustered. I don’t mind waiting a little longer outside the door.”
“Thank you for waiting, Senior Sister.” Song Linlin also smiled politely at her. Fearing the other woman might notice the abnormality on the bed, she reached out to take the tray from Zhiyu’s hand, “Senior Sister Zhiyu, I can carry it myself!”
“It’s fine. Let me take it inside for you, Junior Sister.”
Zhiyu didn’t let go, bypassed Song Linlin, and walked into the room. Her tone remained gentle: “Junior Sister, you were attacked last night. I assume you haven’t recovered yet. Please rest well.”
“Then thank you, Senior Sister.” Song Linlin quickly followed her, blocking the view of the bed.
After placing the tray on the table, just as Song Linlin thought she would leave, Zhiyu did not immediately depart. She looked at Song Linlin’s neck and took out two jade bottles from her pouch.
“Senior Sister Ye told me this morning that you were injured on your neck. She asked me to bring you some ointment. Now that I see it, this wound is rather strange…” Zhiyu lowered her gaze, thinking for a moment, and said with some uncertainty,
“Looking at it now, the wound appears to be from a snake bite.”
Song Linlin’s heart jumped: Is it that obvious?
Chi Qianning was currently awake and lying in the bed. Song Linlin dared not speak carelessly. She covered her wound and gave an awkward smile. “Senior Sister must be joking. I’m perfectly fine. The wound will heal in a couple of days.”
“You should use this ointment, Junior Sister. Otherwise, you’ll get a scar, and a scar in such an obvious place wouldn’t look good.”
Fearing Song Linlin might be too embarrassed to accept, Zhiyu kindly added, “Don’t worry, Senior Sister has plenty more.”
Unable to argue with her, Song Linlin could only nod and accept the two jade bottles. “Then thank you, Senior Sister Zhiyu.”
Zhiyu continued to explain, “The other bottle contains a Qi Recovery Pill. Junior Sister Song, you had a fight with the ruffians last night, so you must have depleted a lot of spiritual power. You can take this pill directly to restore your power in case you encounter another sudden attack.”
Upon hearing this, Song Linlin’s eyes immediately lit up. Her spiritual power had just been completely drained by Chi Qianning, so this item was perfectly timed. Due to her constitution, her own meditation speed was too slow.
And without spiritual power, she wouldn’t even be able to run if she encountered danger.
“Senior Sister Zhiyu, you truly are a good person!” Song Linlin couldn’t help but praise her.
“It is no trouble. Fellow disciples should naturally look out for each other. Junior Sister, you rest well. I will take my leave now. Servants will come to clean up these dishes later.”
“Okay, goodbye, Senior Sister!”
Having successfully sent Zhiyu away without her discovering the abnormality, Song Linlin finally breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a strange excitement akin to hiding a mistress in a golden house.
She closed the door and turned around, seeing that Chi Qianning had already sat up. Her silvery-white hair was somewhat messy, likely caused by Song Linlin’s hasty action earlier.
Noticing the crimson eyes fixed on her, Song Linlin sat down on the chair, herself looking disheveled and messy. She felt a little guilty. “What’s wrong? Why are you staring at me?”
Chi Qianning straightened her hair. “I told you; others cannot see me.”
“Next time… don’t do that!”
