After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 46.2
Ning Hongmian snapped back to attention. “Oh, right! I wanted to tell you remember that birthday party my aunt’s mom threw last time? Wow, things got wild afterward! You really missed out!”
Now Chu Ling was genuinely curious. “What happened that I missed? Spill the details.”
Ning Hongmian’s expression lit up with excitement. “It was that woman! Sister, you were totally right that person who sweet-talked me into coming actually had ulterior motives!
Her name’s Guan Ran. Before that, I’d only met her once at a party and exchanged a few words. Her status isn’t exactly high, but not low either she’s the daughter of a director from a company my aunt collaborates with.
I never expected her to ‘help’ me just to use me!”
Even with just that much info, Chu Ling could tell this was no ordinary drama.
Sure enough, Ning Hongmian grew more animated as she spoke, though her expression also darkened with lingering resentment.
“That Guan Ran actually dared to use me! I must’ve been blind, I thought she was genuinely helping me get in, but she was just using me to pick a fight with you!”
Ning Hongmian looked timid as she spoke, “Sister Chu Ling, you’re not angry, are you? I was really being used back then.”
Sniff.
Chu Ling smiled and patted her head. “I’m not angry. I didn’t take it to heart.”
After all, she was just a child, not ill-intentioned. It was good that she could recognize her mistakes and correct them.
Ning Hongmian grinned, her mood lifting instantly, and continued, “You have no idea, Guan Ran did something that made Auntie furious!
It was terrifying! After I helped you to your room that day, a server told me Auntie was looking for me, so I went out.
But it turned out someone was playing a prank on me! I waited forever, but Auntie never actually called for me, I didn’t even catch a glimpse of her. Oh, I’m getting off track.”
“But later, when I returned to the banquet hall, I happened to witness quite the scene! I’d never seen Auntie look so terrifying before her aura was overwhelming, and no one dared to meet her eyes.
And unlike other adults who beat around the bush and care so much about appearances, Auntie didn’t hold back at all.
I don’t know what she said to Guan Ran, but that woman turned pale and was publicly kicked out!”
“Oh my god, Auntie’s banquet wasn’t some massive event, but there were still plenty of important people there. Everyone invited was someone of status.
These people care so much about face, yet Guan Ran was publicly humiliated her expression was absolutely mortifying, not a shred of dignity left.”
“But that wasn’t even the best part, Sister Ling. Do you know what happened? Because Guan Ran pissed off Auntie, their entire collaboration fell through!”
Ning Hongmian’s eyes curved with glee, clearly relishing the moment. “Their company had gone to great lengths to secure that deal with Auntie, but Guan Ran ruined it all. The contract they lost was worth at least several hundred million in profits. And now, poof dreams shattered.”
Chu Ling: “Several hundred million?!”
Ning Hongmian nodded. “That’s what I heard from my mom. It might even be more. Rumor has it they were banking on this deal to pivot their business direction, but now it’s all for nothing.”
Her tone was dripping with schadenfreude, and Chu Ling felt her head spin. She had no idea the stakes were that high.
Wow. She really was out of her depth.
“So then, that Guan Ran woman must be…”
Ning Hongmian grinned and nodded. “Yep. She’s in deep trouble now. Her mom is a company director, but she doesn’t actually have much real power, just holds some shares.
You know, the kind who just sits back and collects money. But because of this colossal screw-up, her mom might even lose her board seat. Unless Guan Ran can somehow salvage it with a comparable deal, they’re getting the boot.”
Chu Ling took a deep breath. “That’s terrifying. But, I’m really curious, what exactly did Guan Ran do to make Song Qingyi so angry?”
Though it was shocking, she felt this version of Song Qingyi aligned more with the book’s description.
Ning Hongmian shook her head. “I don’t know either.”
She paused, then suddenly shivered. “But I got scolded too. After Auntie dealt with Guan Ran, she turned right around and came for me.”
Her expression twisted with distress as she spoke.
Chu Ling was surprised. “Came for you? Why? What did you do to upset her?”
Ning Hongmian huffed indignantly. “That’s the thing, I have no idea!”
Originally, she was just an onlooker enjoying the drama, but then her aunt turned her attention toward her.
Even now, recalling it makes Ning Hongmian shudder. Her aunt’s expression that day had been terrifying. She didn’t say a word just stared at her, and Ning Hongmian felt like she was about to die on the spot.
But thankfully, she didn’t actually die. She just endured nearly ten minutes under her aunt’s piercing gaze.
Physically, she survived. Mentally, though? She was already dead.
The memory left Ning Hongmian in a daze. She sniffled and said, “I even wondered if it was because Aunt told me to keep an eye on you, and I failed.”
Chu Ling: “…?”
This was somehow her fault too?
After a brief pause, Chu Ling replied, “Probably not. Oh well. It’s all in the past now. Honestly, I just regret getting drunk too early otherwise, I could’ve witnessed the drama firsthand.”
Her expression was full of regret.
Ning Hongmian chuckled. “It’s not too late. At least we got to hear about it now.”
Chu Ling shook her head, her expression meaningful. “It’s not the same. Watching it live versus hearing about it secondhand, there’s a big difference. Drama is best enjoyed in person! That’s when it’s really exciting.”
Ning Hongmian nodded in deep agreement. “True.”
Then her eyes lit up with the joy of finding a kindred spirit. “Next time there’s drama, I’ll call you so we can enjoy it together!”
Chu Ling laughed. “Sure, sure.”
After listening to the gossip, Chu Ling felt her gloomy mood lift considerably.
“Alright, let’s get to work. We’ll take plenty of shots so you can pick your favorites later.”
Ning Hongmian happily took a big sip of her milk tea, chewing the pearls as she got ready.
But as she prepared, her mood suddenly dipped. “I wish I could do what I love too.”
Chu Ling’s hands paused as she adjusted the camera. She smiled gently. “You’re still young, you have plenty of time to explore. Honestly, I didn’t start out doing what I loved either. Anything’s possible.”
Ning Hongmian nodded, though she still seemed downcast.
Like a dejected little puppy.
Aww.
Chu Ling ruffled her hair. “Alright, alright, no more moping. Get into the right mindset, we’re about to start shooting.”
Ning Hongmian shot her a resentful look and quickly ducked away from Chu Ling’s mischievous hands. “Ahhhh, sis! I spent so much time styling my hair, and now it’s all messed up!”
Chu Ling chuckled sheepishly and took a step back, avoiding eye contact. “I don’t think it’s that bad. Just smooth it out a bit, it’ll be fine.”
Ning Hongmian’s outburst was short-lived, and she quickly settled back into her usual docile demeanor, muttering as she fixed her hair.
This kid was seriously adorable.
Chu Ling sighed inwardly.
Their shoot lasted until the afternoon. The lighting wasn’t ideal today Chu Ling felt it would’ve been better with sunlight or even a drizzly overcast sky.
As they reviewed the photos together, though the shots were good, something felt missing.
