After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 43.3
Chu Ling lifted her chin slightly. “If you could become a playgirl, I’d say you’re amazing. So what? You’re my best friend! It’s not like you’re out here committing crimes, just dating a few more people. What’s the big deal?”
Qiu Shuang laughed out loud. “You’ve got questionable morals.”
“So what? Everyone’s biased toward their friends.”
Qiu Shuang cheered up. “True, true. If you had the skills to date someone new every day for a month without repeats, I’d think you were awesome too.”
Chu Ling giggled. “Nah, I’ll pass. I’m not cut out for that.”
Qiu Shuang smirked. “Right, you’re married now. If you did that, it’d be cheating.”
Chu Ling: “Alright, you. Feeling better now?”
Qiu Shuang’s smile faded slightly as she checked in with herself. “Still hurts, but I’m better. Ah, my Ling Ling is just the best!”
Chu Ling nodded without a hint of modesty. “Yes, I am indeed this amazing.”
Qiu Shuang shoved her playfully. “Give you an inch and you take a mile.”
After some playful banter, Chu Ling observed Qiu Shuang carefully and felt she was in much better spirits, which eased her own worries.
“Oh, right about that class reunion I mentioned last night. Are you going?”
Chu Ling suddenly remembered and quickly asked.
Qiu Shuang looked surprised. “Huh? I didn’t even notice. Last night, I was so upset I just sulked myself to sleep.”
Chu Ling: “…Alright, so what do you think? Should we go? They said it’s to visit our homeroom teacher.”
Qiu Shuang rolled her eyes. “What’s so great about the homeroom teacher? She always had it out for me back in school.”
Chu Ling: “Huh? Really?”
Qiu Shuang gave her a look. “You stinker, you forgot again, didn’t you?”
Chu Ling felt a pang of guilt but played along. “Yeah, for some reason, I just can’t remember.”
Qiu Shuang didn’t dwell on it and thought for a moment. “Even though she had it out for me, she seemed to like you a lot. Maybe we should go see her.”
Chu Ling was taken aback. “Huh?”
“You were a top student. Who doesn’t love a genius?”
Chu Ling understood apparently, she was the academic type in this story too.
That being the case, she really ought to visit the homeroom teacher. It’d feel wrong not to.
But Chu Ling was a little worried. “There’s one problem, I’ve basically forgotten all those classmates. Will it be okay if I go?”
Autumn Frost gave her a playful slap. “What’s there to be afraid of? I’ll be with you! Don’t worry, I’ll definitely remind you when the time comes. We can always smooth things over. Though, I wonder if that person will show up.”
“That person? Who?”
Autumn Frost shot her a sidelong glance. “Wow, you really have forgotten everything, huh? That person is our mutual enemy! So if she comes looking for trouble, just watch me shut her down!”
Chu Ling understood, it must be someone they didn’t get along with in high school.
“That bad, huh?” she asked casually.
Autumn Frost’s eyes widened. “It’s not just regular dislike! She’s a total copycat so annoying.”
Chu Ling grew a little curious. “A copycat? Of you?”
Autumn Frost fumed. “Who else? Whatever I used, she had to have. Whatever I wore, she’d wear the exact same thing the next day. It only stopped when the school made uniforms mandatory. Tell me that’s not a copycat!”
Chu Ling burst out laughing. “Alright, maybe she wasn’t deliberately copying you? Maybe she just thought you had great taste!”
Though still irritated, Autumn Frost had to admit she felt a little better hearing that.
“Well, if that’s the case, then at least she has good taste. My style is next-level!”
The two shared a laugh, and after some playful banter, Autumn Frost seemed much more cheerful.
As for the romantic issues between them, Chu Ling figured it was best not to meddle too much. Matters of the heart were unpredictable, what if she advised them to break up, only for them to end up even more entangled?
Best to let things take their natural course.
Autumn Frost didn’t bring it up again either. Just then, Aunt Zhou called them down for dinner, so they dropped the topic.
Chu Ling ate heartily Aunt Zhou’s cooking was excellent, and many of the dishes were her favorites.
Thankfully, both her moms were great cooks too, or else she’d be pining for Aunt Zhou’s meals.
Aunt Zhou seemed to be in high spirits as well.
“Lingling still loves my cooking so much! Hah, my skills haven’t lost to your moms’, have they?”
Chu Ling knew Aunt Zhou and her moms were close, so they often teased each other without taking it seriously.
She immediately praised, “Of course not! If you opened a restaurant, Auntie, customers would be lining up nonstop.”
Aunt Zhou was delighted, grinning from ear to ear.
Autumn Frost clicked her tongue and teased, “Mom, I think the only reason you invited Lingling over was to hear her flatter you.”
Aunt Zhou shot her a look. “So what? Lingling’s words make me happy. Unlike you, after all these years of cooking for you, have I ever heard a single nice word?”
Autumn Frost looked scandalized. “Mom, don’t slander me! When have I ever not praised you?”
Aunt Zhou huffed. “With that mouth of yours, even compliments sound like insults. It grates on my ears, I don’t want to hear it.”
Autumn Frost: “…”
Fine, fine. So every time Lingling visits, she becomes the outsider, huh?
Though she grumbled inwardly, Autumn Frost didn’t take it to heart. That was just how her mom was.
“Not gonna argue with you. I’ll let you have this one, old lady.”
Aunt Zhou’s eyebrows shot up. “Hey! Who are you calling old, you brat?”
Autumn Frost suddenly became very interested in the ceiling and the floor anything but her mom.
“You’re not old. Not old at all!”
At that, everyone else turned away, stifling laughter.
The one speaking was Aunt Zhou’s girlfriend, who still looked quite shy. But with fewer people around now, Chu Ling felt she wasn’t as timid as when they first met.
Hearing the compliment, Aunt Zhou immediately laughed, “Oh my, at my age, I’m hardly young anymore.”
The woman shook her head firmly, “Not old at all. In my eyes, you’ll always be young.”
Qiu Shuang let out an exaggerated “Eww,” “I’m full actually, I think I might be stuffed. What about you, Lingling?”
Chu Ling replied with perfect seriousness, “Mm, I’m very full too.”
Qiu Shuang nodded with an air of seriousness. “Seems we’re on the same page. Let’s go, let’s go. If we don’t leave now, we’ll be even more stuffed.”
Auntie Zhou’s girlfriend blushed at the teasing.
It was quite unusual someone of that age still so innocent and shy, and so smitten with Auntie Zhou. Chu Ling couldn’t help but feel curious. As she and Qiu Shuang strolled in the yard to digest their food, she decided to ask about it.
Qiu Shuang: “Ah, well, I don’t actually know the specifics. They never talk about it. But I heard from my mom’s assistant that this… uh, I’m not sure whether to call her ‘auntie’ or ‘sister’, apparently, she came in through an interview. The moment she saw my mom, her eyes lit up, and her expression was off.”
Chu Ling: “Huh? So she already knew Auntie Zhou? But their ages don’t match up. It doesn’t seem like they’ve worked together before.”
Qiu Shuang nodded. “Yeah, the assistant thought her behavior was suspicious and worried she might be a spy or something, so they looked into her. After all, she was being way too obvious. Turns out, she knew my mom because she was one of her scholarship recipients.”
Chu Ling was surprised. “Oh, that explains it. That makes sense. What’s her name?”
Qiu Shuang thought for two seconds. “I think it’s Fang Xunzhen.”
“Hey? She shares the same surname as you. That’s quite a coincidence.”
Qiu Shuang also sounded surprised. “Huh, I didn’t even think of that. She and Fang Manwen share the same surname.”
Chu Ling looked at her and sighed. “Now that’s what I call an exceptional lack of perception.”
Qiu Shuang shot her a sidelong glance. “Takes one to know one!”
After the gossip session, Chu Ling checked the time and decided to head back. Though the trip had been enjoyable, she was still a bit tired and wanted to take a nap.
Qiu Shuang waved her off and called the family driver to take her home.
Chu Ling didn’t stand on ceremony. Once back, she tidied up a bit and immediately crashed into bed, not waking until night had fallen.
Out of habit, she grabbed her phone, only to find it flooded with notifications the moment she turned it on.
Startled, she tapped in to see what was going on.
That’s when she realized the video, she’d taken of the border collie herding sheep had suddenly gone viral. It already had nearly thirty thousand likes, and the comments were pouring in nonstop.
She scratched her cheek, surprised that a casually shot video had blown up, then happily clicked in to read the comments.
At first, she was focused on the comments, but at some point, Chu Ling inadvertently glanced up and caught a fleeting glimpse of Song Qingyi’s figure in the video.
Her eyes widened in shock.
Wait, what? How did Song Qingyi end up in her video?!
