After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 43.1
Chu Ling fell silent for a moment, then pretended to act naturally as she slowly adjusted her limbs into a proper position.
After her mind went blank for an instant, she jolted upright, kneeling on the bed with an earnest expression as she explained, “I’m really sorry, I have no idea why I ended up like this after falling asleep.”
Chu Ling had always believed she had excellent sleeping habits. Whatever position she fell asleep in at night was the same one she woke up in the next morning.
No one had ever told her that things might change in between!
She stole a glance at Song Qingyi’s expression but couldn’t decipher anything. Still… she had a feeling Song Qingyi wasn’t actually angry.
But that didn’t stop her from apologizing. As long as she admitted her mistake quickly enough, she could still survive this!
Song Qingyi let out a soft laugh, propping herself up against the headboard with a leisurely expression. “Good thing it’s my left hand that’s injured. If it had been my right.”
She didn’t finish, but Chu Ling understood immediately, her face flushing with shame.
If it had been her right hand, given how Chu Ling had clung to her like a koala last night, Song Qingyi’s injury would have definitely worsened.
Though no real harm had been done this time, Chu Ling still hung her head in remorse and whispered, “I’m sorry, it’s all because my sleeping habits are so terrible.”
If they ever had to share a room like this again in the future, she would find an excuse to book two separate rooms. Staying in one was just too much for her to handle.
That was what Chu Ling decided.
Getting caught red-handed first thing in the morning left her feeling particularly meek around Song Qingyi, unable to refuse anything.
Song Qingyi appeared calm on the surface, but inwardly, she was elated.
In truth, last night, Chu Ling had only rested her hand lightly on her at first.
Startled awake, Song Qingyi hadn’t overthought it, she instinctively pulled Chu Ling’s arm around herself. The next second, Chu Ling had wrapped both arms and legs around her like a vine.
Song Qingyi had been momentarily stunned, glancing down at her, wondering if this was some kind of payback for the way she had clung to Chu Ling before.
But Chu Ling hadn’t been aware of that, and now she was fast asleep, it must have been an unconscious reflex.
Yet being held like this reminded Song Qingyi of when they were little. Once, during an afternoon nap at Chu Ling’s house, she had been tangled up in the same way. It had been her first taste of such closeness.
Back then, she had been left in her grandmother’s care.
Both of her mothers had considered her a nuisance, wanting only to live their own lives, so she had become an unwanted burden.
Neither wanted to raise her themselves, and hiring a nanny wasn’t an option after a previous incident where one had stolen from them. So, they unanimously decided to dump her with her grandmother.
But her grandmother was far from easygoing, she was strict.
It wasn’t that she treated Song Qingyi poorly, but for a child who desperately needed affection, all she felt were rigid rules.
This made young Song Qingyi dread being around her grandmother.
Her grandmother tirelessly corrected every flaw no coddling, she had to learn independence. Dressing, eating, sleeping all had to be done without companionship.
As the sole heiress of two prominent families, she had to learn to suppress her emotions early on.
Even though she was just a child, her grandmother paid no mind to that.
She believed that since both mothers had entrusted her to their care, she must not pick up any bad habits. Thus, she bound her with the strictest doctrines and rules.
As a result, little Song Qingyi grew increasingly silent day by day, yet she never once thought of running away.
Back then, she felt there was nothing wrong with her life perhaps this was just how everyone lived.
But after Chu Ling appeared, Song Qingyi realized that everyone’s way of life was different.
Chu Ling brought a dazzling beam of light into her dark and lifeless existence, and from then on, Song Qingyi could no longer bear to return to her former life.
Sneaking around to play with Chu Ling, doing all sorts of rebellious things, visiting her home those were the happiest times of her life. And then…
There was no “then.”
Her light had abandoned her.
After her grandmother passed away and she was taken back, Song Qingyi closed herself off again, unwilling to communicate, indifferent to everything.
It was too dark her world.
So she decided Chu Ling was a liar.
Even though those memories had faded, the feelings they evoked still haunted her relentlessly.
Perhaps because she had recalled this memory again, Song Qingyi felt uneasy.
Was everything happening now real? Or was it just another illusion of hers?
And what about Chu Ling? Could Chu Ling also be a figment of her imagination? Had her obsession twisted into madness, conjuring illusions just to drag her deeper into the abyss?
The mere thought of it made Song Qingyi’s eyes instantly darken, as if even light could no longer penetrate them.
Yet just as she was lost in these thoughts, teetering on the edge of the darkness, a voice suddenly pulled her back to reality.
Song Qingyi looked up to see Chu Ling leaning close, her face full of concern.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t sleep well? You look awful, Song Qingyi.”
As she spoke, Chu Ling remembered that if the other girl hadn’t slept well, it was undoubtedly her fault.
“Ahem, was my sleeping posture last night bothering you? But we’re about to leave soon can you hold on a little longer and catch some sleep on the plane?”
As if recalling something else, she continued chattering away.
Though the words were utterly ordinary, Song Qingyi felt as though she was being pulled back into the world of the living.
And just like that, the world brightened again.
“I’m fine. Go wash up first.”
Chu Ling studied her, unable to resist confirming, “Really, you’re okay?”
Song Qingyi nodded. “Yeah, really. Go on, didn’t you say we’re running out of time?”
It was true, they were almost late. The plane wouldn’t wait, and they still had to check out…
At the thought, Chu Ling leaped off the bed and dashed into the bathroom. “I’ll be quick!”
Watching her hurry away, Song Qingyi didn’t look away. Even when Chu Ling was out of sight, she kept her gaze fixed until the other girl was nearly done before finally turning away.
How wonderful, this wasn’t an illusion. It was real.
By the time Chu Ling finished washing up, Song Qingyi was already dressed. Chu Ling scrambled to change as well.
Luckily, they had woken up early, so there was no need to rush. But Chu Ling hated cutting it close, so as they were finishing up, she called everyone else to make sure they were awake too.
They made it to the plane, and Chu Ling finally relaxed.
Because they had to catch an early flight, no one was in the mood to play games anymore. Chu Ling also pulled out her eye mask and went straight to sleep.
By the time they landed, it was already noon.
“Mr. Qin and I will head back first. There’s still work to handle at the company. Sigh, let’s plan for next time,” Ye Zhiyin said with evident regret.
