After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 42.1
How should one describe that look in Song Qingyi’s eyes?
Chu Ling froze.
Perhaps it was because the snow around them was too thick, dazzling her vision, that she felt as though Song Qingyi’s gaze held endless tenderness when looking at her.
…Was it because of her? Directed at her?
Chu Ling didn’t know. Her mind seemed to sink into quicksand, struggling to turn over, yet her heart betrayed her with its accelerating rhythm.
Faster and faster, pounding noisily.
A sense of panic washed over Chu Ling, as if her heart was about to leap out of her chest.
She pressed a hand to her chest, her expression tightening slightly.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Song Qingyi’s concerned voice snapped Chu Ling back to reality. She averted her gaze cautiously, afraid of meeting those same eyes again. But when she saw that Song Qingyi had returned to her usual self, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
At the same time, her heart skipped a beat.
Gradually calming herself, Chu Ling decided she must have imagined it. How could Song Qingyi look at her like that?
So, it must have been an illusion.
Chu Ling felt like such a contradictory person. Rationally, she knew she shouldn’t develop feelings for Song Qingyi, yet emotionally, she couldn’t help herself.
Just like earlier when she thought that look might have been meant for her, her heart had soared with joy, pounding so fiercely it nearly burst. But the moment she realized it was just her imagination, her chest felt hollow, perhaps even a little disappointed.
Humans were probably just inherently complex and contradictory creatures, and she was no exception.
So it was fine.
Chu Ling quickly adjusted her emotions and shook her head at Song Qingyi. “No, it’s just that my hands are a little cold. Haha, I got too absorbed in making these.”
Song Qingyi glanced down at Chu Ling’s hands.
They were reddened from the cold, looking painfully icy just from a glance. Instantly, her brows furrowed.
“Let’s go back and warm them up with a hot water bottle.”
Chu Ling waved it off. “It’s fine, really. They’re not that cold, they’ll warm up soon. Didn’t you know? After freezing for a while, they’ll even start feeling hot. It’s no big deal, no need to go through the trouble.”
Song Qingyi nodded slowly, lowering her gaze as if lost in thought.
When no further words came, Chu Ling turned away, pulling out her phone from her pocket to take pictures of the little snowmen she had made.
Though they wouldn’t last long due to various factors, the photos could be preserved for a long time.
Looking at the row of tiny snowmen on her screen, Chu Ling’s eyes sparkled with amusement. On a whim, she posted them to her social media, sharing her little creations with her friends.
The moment the photos went up, notifications began popping up one after another.
Chu Ling tapped in to take a look most were from friends who were slacking off, expressing their envy from afar.
Then, a new message suddenly appeared.
Curious, Chu Ling opened it and saw the contact name probably a high school classmate from the original host’s past?
The classmate mentioned they had just stumbled upon her post and decided to reach out to inform her.
With the upcoming National Day holiday, everyone would have some free time, so they were planning to visit their old homeroom teacher and then gather for a reunion. They insisted she absolutely had to come.
[Classmate: Oh, and I remember you were close with Qiu Shuang, so could you pass the message along to her?]
Chu Ling was taken aback and hesitated for a moment. After all, she wasn’t the original owner of this body. Attending a class reunion… she wasn’t sure how to handle it.
After some thought, she decided she’d ask Qiu Shuang about it later, so her reply to the classmate was noncommittal, just a vague “we’ll see when the time comes.”
Chatting on her phone for a while, Chu Ling felt her fingers growing even colder. She quickly dug out her gloves and put them on, gradually feeling her fingers warm up again.
She turned to Song Qingyi and noticed the other girl was already looking at her. Chu Ling blinked in confusion. “What’s up?”
Song Qingyi shook her head. “Nothing. Do you still want to play?”
Chu Ling thought for two seconds. “Nah, it’s almost noon. We should go call the others for lunch.”
She rubbed her stomach, feeling a little hungry.
Originally, she had planned to snack on street food, but thanks to Song Qingyi’s strict supervision, that plan was ruined. Now, she had no choice but to eat a proper meal.
With a hint of regret, Chu Ling swept her gaze over the rows of food stalls, her eyes full of longing.
The visitor center didn’t have anything particularly delicious, but none of them wanted to go back down and then climb up again later. So, they decided to grab a quick bite now and leave early if they got tired from skiing.
“Where did you two run off to? We couldn’t find you anywhere!”
The moment they met up, Qiu Shuang’s sharp eyes darted between them like a hawk.
Chu Ling pointed at Song Qingyi’s wrist, her expression innocent. “No idea. Song Qingyi suddenly hurt her wrist. Hey, stinky Beibei, got any clues?”
She stared straight at Qiu Shuang, her gaze piercing.
Qiu Shuang immediately recalled the chain of accidents caused by her earlier loss of control and averted her eyes guiltily.
“Ahem… yeah, that was me… Okay, fine, I’m sorry! I really didn’t mean to just now. Is your wrist okay? Is it serious?”
Realizing she was the culprit behind all this, Qiu Shuang lowered her head sheepishly and apologized sincerely to Song Qingyi, her attitude impeccable.
Song Qingyi glanced at her wrist and replied calmly, “It’s fine.”
But her bandaged hand didn’t look “fine” at all. Qiu Shuang’s confidence wavered. “Are you sure? Should we go down and get it checked at the hospital?”
She was worried, what if it wasn’t just a surface injury? If the bone was damaged too, her guilt would be unbearable.
Chu Ling hadn’t considered that possibility earlier, but now that Qiu Shuang mentioned it, she grew concerned as well.
“Yeah, I didn’t think of that before. Is your bone okay? Does it hurt? Any discomfort?”
She fired off several questions in a row, her eyes filled with urgency.
After all, not only had they forgotten about it, but they’d even gone off to make snowmen! Though Song Qingyi had used her uninjured hand, Chu Ling still felt guilty.
Song Qingyi, however, remained composed. “It’s fine, don’t worry. It’s just a scrape, the bone doesn’t hurt.”
Only after she repeatedly assured them that it was merely a skin abrasion and not a bone injury did the others finally drop the idea of heading down immediately.
“Still, just to be safe, we should leave early and get an X-ray at the hospital later,” Ye Zhiyin declared firmly, leaving no room for argument.
Song Qingyi felt a little helpless. She wanted to insist that she really was fine, but when she met Chu Ling’s worried gaze, the refusal died on her lips.
“Alright.”
Only then did Ye Zhiyin nod in satisfaction, shooting Chu Ling an approving look, clearly giving her credit for this outcome.
Song Qingyi couldn’t help but feel happy because she noticed Chu Ling was genuinely worried about her.
Only Chu Ling had the thought, “Just as I expected.”
No matter how much they had tried to persuade Song Qingyi earlier, she wouldn’t budge yet the moment Ye Zhiyin spoke up, she immediately agreed to go.
As expected, Song Qingyi just couldn’t bear to refuse Ye Zhiyin!
This is bad. The road to changing the plot is long and arduous.
Chu Ling’s expression gradually turned serious.
For the rest of the day, due to the earlier accident, the group wasn’t in high spirits, so they decided to head down the mountain early.
Though they didn’t get to fully enjoy their time on the snowy mountain, everyone understood the severity of the situation. If bones had actually been injured, it wouldn’t have been a minor issue, they needed to confirm she was alright before they could relax.
The kids also expressed their concern for the injured Song Qingyi.
Though each of them was more frightened than the last, they at least managed to voice their worries.
Chu Ling found it amusing, thinking Song Qingyi really was the type to scare children into silence.
The test results came back quickly, thankfully showing no bone damage just some severe abrasions.
Perhaps because she had exerted herself, the wound had started bleeding again, washing away the medicinal powder. It had to be cleaned and re-dressed, then wrapped in fresh gauze.
But Song Qingyi remained expressionless the entire time, looking thoroughly displeased whether from pain or something else was unclear.
Chu Ling assumed she was trying to endure the pain, but in reality, Song Qingyi was just upset that the gauze Chu Ling had originally wrapped for her had been removed.
So much so that she found the nurse’s re-bandaging completely unsatisfactory.
Chu Ling had no choice but to comfort her softly, “It’ll be over soon, don’t be scared.”
She kept her voice low, preserving Song Qingyi’s dignity.
In response, she received a strange look from Song Qingyi. Chu Ling was puzzled, but just then, the nurse finished bandaging and began explaining some precautions.
So Chu Ling didn’t dwell on it, focusing instead on memorizing the instructions.
Only Ye Zhiyin seemed to pick up on something, but she didn’t comment just smirked teasingly at Song Qingyi.
A rare sight, she couldn’t pass up the chance to tease her!
Song Qingyi ignored her, sulking on her own.
With that, their trip was nearly over.
There were still other activities on the snowy mountain, but they wouldn’t get to experience them now.
The kids were disappointed, and so was Chu Ling, though she took it in stride.
“Let’s come back next time. Trips always leave some regrets that’s why we plan the next one.”
Ning Hongmian obediently nodded vigorously. “Okay! Then next time, Sister Chu Ling, you have to come too!”
Chu Ling chuckled and patted her head. “If I’m free, sure.”
Ning Hongmian really enjoyed going out with them. Even though they were adults, the sisters never ruined the fun!
She truly adored it.
As for her aunt… well, never mind. She was a magnanimous person, she could tolerate it.
Just as Ning Hongmian thought this, she caught her aunt’s piercing gaze. She couldn’t help but shiver, pretending she hadn’t been thinking anything at all.
After the check-up, it was nearly dinnertime, and they had another round of local specialties.
Fortunately, no one was in a rush this time, so they properly enjoyed the regional cuisine.
Since they had to wake up early the next day to catch their flight, everyone returned to the hotel after dinner.
It was the last night of the trip, and Chu Ling had initially felt reluctant but a more pressing issue quickly overshadowed her nostalgia.
Song Qingyi’s hands couldn’t get wet, and she wasn’t supposed to exert any force either. That raised a problem, she needed help with her daily hygiene routines…
And since Chu Ling was the one sharing a room with Song Qingyi, the task of assisting naturally fell to her.
Realizing this, Chu Ling slowly froze in place.
But she couldn’t just ignore it, could she?
Chu Ling steeled herself internally before hesitantly glancing at Song Qingyi. “Um… do you want to freshen up now? I… I can help you.”
Song Qingyi raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on her lips as she readily agreed.
Chu Ling was even more stunned. She had expected Song Qingyi to refuse and had even prepared a whole speech to persuade her. Yet the other woman agreed without hesitation, making Chu Ling feel a bit foolish.
“You… you didn’t even think about it?”
Song Qingyi arched her brow. “Think about what?” Then, as if suddenly understanding, she asked, “Oh, are you talking about bathing? I don’t mind, actually.
Since my hand is injured, it’s inconvenient to bathe alone. If the wound gets wet and infected, I’d have to go to the hospital, get it cleaned again, rebandaged…”
“Okay, okay, stop! I get it, no need to say more. I’ll help you wash.”
Song Qingyi leisurely stopped talking.
Originally, she hadn’t thought much of it. Sure, her wrist couldn’t get wet, which was a bit troublesome, but it wasn’t impossible to manage.
There was no way she’d skip bathing just because of a minor injury especially not with Chu Ling around. What kind of impression would that leave?
But since Chu Ling had brought it up herself, Song Qingyi saw no harm in it.
Consider it, a small bit of interest.
“Let’s go. I want to wash now.”
Chu Ling checked the time, it was only eight o’clock. “Now? So early?”
Song Qingyi looked at her and said softly, “Early? We have to get up early tomorrow, so it’s not early at all.”
Chu Ling: “Fine. Then, let’s go.”
Getting it over with sooner was better! At least she wouldn’t have to agonize over it every second.
But since Song Qingyi’s hand couldn’t get wet, it needed to be wrapped up first.
So, Chu Ling quickly added, “Wait, let me ask the front desk if they have cling wrap. The kitchen should have some. Your wrist can’t get wet, so we need to cover it.”
