Chapter 75: Sending Away
The puppet seal in her heart was triggered.
Why didn’t it hurt?
Yu Yingxia watched as Yan Huaixi thrust the sword deeper into her body. If it weren’t for the uncontrollable cry of agony coming from the person behind her, she would have suspected her own eyes were playing tricks on her.
Yan Zheng didn’t overthink it. He simply assumed the “Yu Yingxia” chess piece had been discarded by her opponent, and so he unhesitatingly abandoned this useless pawn.
He struck out with a palm, using the recoil to retreat rapidly. The soul-sword piercing Yu Yingxia instantly vanished as Yan Huaixi used her free hand to disperse Yan Zheng’s incoming spiritual energy.
However, the grayish-black energy didn’t disappear after being struck; instead, it transformed into dozens of wisps of gray smoke that surrounded Yan Huaixi and Yu Yingxia.
At the same time, dozens of remnant souls peeled away from Yan Zheng’s body, resonating with the scattered power. The fusion of gray smoke and souls instantly became jet-black pillars rising from the ground!
The soul pillars formed a circle, resembling a giant birdcage. Inside, various forbidden spells intertwined. Yan Huaixi realized her movement was restricted within the cage, but Yu Yingxia’s was not.
This was clearly a trap specifically designed for their own kin. Yan Huaixi knew a brutal battle was coming one perhaps even more dangerous than her clash with Fang Yuetong.
Yu Yingxia could not stay here; otherwise, she would be caught in the crossfire at any moment!
“I’ll settle the score with you for lying to me later,” Yan Huaixi transmitted “viciously.”
Though her tone sounded fierce, Yu Yingxia caught a glimpse of a slight upward curve at the corner of her lips.
Yu Yingxia instinctively reached for Yan Huaixi’s sleeve, but the other woman suddenly yanked it back, looking as if she were unwilling to have any contact with her. Immediately after, Yan Huaixi condensed the soul-sword in her hand once more.
With eyes like ice, she raised her hand and swung down. The blade sliced diagonally through Yu Yingxia’s body.
Yu Yingxia’s eyes widened in disbelief as the red soul-fire burning on the “wound” instantly engulfed her body. Within moments, her figure vanished. To an outsider, it looked as if she had been burned alive, leaving not even a wisp of a soul behind.
Yan Zheng watched from a distance, feeling impressed once again by Yan Huaixi’s ruthlessness. To kill someone who had followed her for so long without a shred of hesitation this was a personality he truly appreciated. Clapping sounds echoed from the black shadow.
“You are indeed as cold-hearted as the rumors say. But that is how traitors should be treated; mercy only gives the opponent a chance to bite back…” Before Yan Zheng could finish, a blood-red blade nearly pierced the center of his shadow.
Because the area Yan Huaixi stood in was under his control, he was able to detect and dodge the attack instantly. Had he not prepared several hidden hands in advance, he would never have stood there unscathed.
“Indeed. Mercy only gives the opponent a chance to bite back. Therefore, I have always believed in pulling up roots. If given the chance, I never let an enemy leave alive.” Yan Huaixi’s lips curled into a cold sneer. Even though she was deep within a cage specifically designed to suppress her, her posture remained arrogant.
Yan Zheng felt as if he were being treated like trash, his pride trampled underfoot. Arrogant little girl. Since it’s like this, I, your ancestor, will teach you the meaning of bowing your head!
In the woods outside the Soul Tower, Yu Yingxia tumbled into a patch of dry grass. Fortunately, she was a cultivator now; she used her spiritual energy to cushion the fall, so it wasn’t too heavy.
Appearing suddenly in this strange place, Yu Yingxia looked at the gray sky in a daze. The surrounding death energy was incredibly thick. The bead hanging at her chest pulsed with a pale blue light—a magical tool designed to isolate death energy. With it, she didn’t have to scramble to create fresh air for herself.
She stood up, leaning against a tree. Her mind replayed what had just happened.
She had thought Yan Huaixi really wanted to kill her, but it turned out she had misunderstood. Yan Huaixi’s sword hadn’t harmed her; it had teleported her here. A wave of guilt washed over Yu Yingxia for not trusting her, but as she recalled the “threat” to settle scores later, that guilt was quickly replaced by a sense of being “caught.”
She slapped her cheeks to snap herself out of it. Now was not the time for this. She didn’t know how that damn Yan Zheng had locked onto their location, but she could see that the tragedies of the three families were all aimed at Yan Huaixi!
Yan Zheng had come prepared. Was Yan Huaixi really okay on her own?
Yu Yingxia felt she should trust the “big boss” villain of the book, but who was Yan Zheng? He hadn’t appeared in the original story; he was a monster from a thousand years ago specifically designed to hunt his own family. Even the long-dead Yan Qingxu had gone to great lengths across worlds to ask her to protect the Yan descendants from him.
One cannot stay idle; idleness leads to overthinking.
If only I were strong enough… I could help instead of being sent away like a burden.
She climbed the tallest nearby tree. From the top, her vision cleared. Looking toward the thickest concentration of death energy, she saw the Soul Tower. But knowing its location was useless; going back would only make her a liability.
She estimated that Yan Huaixi had sent her to the very edge of the realm. It made sense; only here could she survive on her own. It was a discouraging realization she was so weak that Yan Huaixi had to worry about her survival even in a life-or-death crisis.
She found a spot among the branches and used her newly learned techniques to hide her aura. Please, let no enemies pass through such a remote place!
However, as the saying goes, when luck is bad, even drinking cold water gets stuck in your teeth.
In such a vast secret realm, with only a few hundred people entering and at least half already dead, the odds were tiny—yet Yu Yingxia saw figures moving in the bushes nearby.
People were coming!
She held her breath. She prayed they were from the Zhao or Wang families, as the Qian team was entirely compromised. But her prayer went unanswered. The group passing by wore the Qian family crest.
“The outsiders have been cleared out, right? When can we regroup with the Master at the Soul Tower?” “Search as far as the mountain ahead. If there are no more survivors, we return to report.”
The group passed under her tree. Having just checked the area, they were relaxed and didn’t use their divine sense. Yu Yingxia was nearly safe—until a massive pillar of jet-black light erupted from the Soul Tower, seemingly tearing a hole in the sky!
The aftershock of that malicious, eerie power made Yu Yingxia shudder uncontrollably. Her breathing hitched. That wasn’t Yan Huaixi’s power; it was Yan Zheng’s!
The pillar felt like a declaration of his dominance. Yu Yingxia’s optimism shattered, and with her emotional turmoil, her aura-hiding spell flickered.
“Who’s in the tree?!” A man below looked up. With a ferocious expression, he leaped into the air.
Yu Yingxia didn’t have time to think; she drew a bolt of lightning and threw it directly at his face. The man, though far stronger than her, was caught off guard and blasted back down to the ground.
“Kill her!” the man roared.
Yu Yingxia knew she was no match for them. She slapped a speed-enhancing talisman onto herself and fled. Her speed increased drastically, leaving the pursuers struggling to keep up.
“Damn, her strength is strange! Why can’t we catch her? Which family is she from?” “I don’t know. The records for Zhao and Wang don’t mention her.” “A fifth party?” The group hesitated. If she belonged to a force even their Master didn’t want to provoke, they would be in trouble.
In that momentary gap, Yu Yingxia almost escaped. But the heart of the group wanted to pull up the roots.
She gritted her teeth and ran. Just as she felt she was finally losing them, a sudden, blinding agony tore through her heart.
She collapsed to the ground with a thud. The pain was relentless, making her feel as if she were back in her previous life, dying of heart failure.
It hurts…
She gasped for air, cold sweat dripping down her pale face. The pursuers were closing in. She forced herself to stand, but the pain intensified. Then she realized—the original owner of this body had a healthy heart. This wasn’t a disease.
The Puppet Seal was being triggered!
Did Yan Huaixi want to kill her? No—if she wanted her dead, she would have done it already. There was only one other possibility: Yan Huaixi’s life signs had reached a critical, near-death state, and the seal was warning her that the “puppet” must follow the “master” to the grave!
Her first thought wasn’t for her own life. She looked toward the black pillar of light in the distance, her heart aching for the woman she couldn’t see.
Something terrible has happened to Yan Huaixi!
