After Transmigrating, I Fell in Love with a Top-Tier Movie Queen - Chapter 93
Ye Linghua still trusted Lin Xin; what she didn’t trust was the power of the plot. But she believed that if Lin Xin wanted to leave her, she would do so more openly and honestly.
Seeing Lin Xin’s eyes turn red, Ye Linghua couldn’t help but walk forward. When Lin Xin saw her, her eyes grew even redder, and tears welled up, threatening to fall, which made her look pitiful.
Tears like pear blossoms with rain—a skill unique to beautiful women.
Lin Xin was already strikingly beautiful, and she was the girl she loved, so Ye Linghua quickly went up and asked, “Are you okay?”
Lin Xin shook her head. The cameraman following her said, “She almost fell off the mountain just now. She was terrified.”
Ye Linghua was startled, and she looked down at Lin Xin. Seeing scratches on her hand and neck, her heart seized up, and she felt a suffocating discomfort, as if she couldn’t breathe.
Frowning, Ye Linghua’s voice trembled slightly: “How did you almost fall?”
Lin Xin sniffled, looked up at Ye Linghua, and said, “The path was covered in weeds and you couldn’t see anything. I was tired from walking and wanted to go sit under that tree, but I didn’t realize the tree was growing up from the cliff face.”
Ye Linghua frowned. This was a disjointed explanation, and she still didn’t completely understand what had happened.
Because Lin Xin and Zheng Lanwen both returned injured, the other guests stopped what they were doing and rushed over to check on them.
Only then did the cameraman slowly recount the events of the day.
The weather was hot. Now, one would break a sweat quickly, even after walking a short distance up the mountain to collect firewood.
Although they started ascending early in the morning, the air became muggy as the sun rose. Lin Xin had forgotten to bring water when she came up.
Zheng Lanwen offered her own water to show concern, but Lin Xin didn’t want to accept it. She didn’t want to owe Zheng Lanwen a favor, so she endured the thirst and kept climbing.
Zheng Lanwen felt a pang of distress watching her and kept following behind her, saying, “What does it matter if I give you water? You’ve helped me so much before; just think of it as me repaying you!”
Lin Xin didn’t even look at her, lowering her head and climbing up: “I don’t want it.”
Her refusal was quick and decisive.
The cameraman following behind also wanted to give her water, but carrying the heavy camera, his own canteen was clipped to his waist and he had already drunk from it, so he felt too awkward to offer it.
The weather was hot, and she was thirsty. Lin Xin climbed for half an hour, feeling waves of discomfort. After collecting a bit of firewood, Lin Xin felt even worse and just wanted to find a place to rest. Although there were many trees on the mountain, there weren’t many places to sit.
Zheng Lanwen chose a large, shade-providing tree nearby first. The shade was vast, and there were a few stones underneath. It was clearly a spot where villagers often rested. Zheng Lanwen sat down on one of the stones to rest. Lin Xin didn’t want to be under the same tree as her, so she looked for another tree nearby.
Before she could sit down, she merely walked closer for a look and suddenly lost her balance.
This area had many forests and mountains, many of which even the villagers hadn’t visited. Only this particular mountain was near the back of the village and was frequently climbed by villagers, so it naturally had a path.
Along the path, there were often sloping precipices covered with patches of trees and weeds. Sometimes they grew up and obscured the view outside, and with the cover of weeds, it was difficult to see the situation beyond.
The higher up one went, the steeper and more dangerous it became.
Lin Xin didn’t climb mountains often and knew little about this one. But the heat and thirst, coupled with her growing impatience, and having to travel with someone she disliked, all contributed to her state.
For Lin Xin, the day could be said to have started with one misfortune after another. She was so agitated that she almost lost her ability to think clearly. This caused her to be distracted when looking for a resting spot.
The shock of her foot slipping and falling, the terror of flailing her arms in the air and grasping a branch nearby, leaving her dangling mid-air.
In that moment, Lin Xin’s mind was filled with one thought: It’s over, I’m going to die. Who will Ye Linghua end up with?
Then, Lin Xin saw Zheng Lanwen across from her, who, upon hearing her cry out, dropped the items in her hand in panic and lunged over.
At the same time, the cameraman on the other side also threw down his camera and lunged.
Lin Xin only heard a snap, and the branch above her head made a fragile sound.
As she fell, the cameraman was the first to grab her, followed by Zheng Lanwen, who had rushed over and also reached out to pull her.
Actually, this spot wasn’t a cliff, just a steep slope. Lin Xin’s hanging position wasn’t very high off the ground, and there were many trees, so even if she had landed and rolled a short distance, she would have been stopped by the trees. The probability of death was low.
Lin Xin was aware of this fact after being pulled up.
However, the shock of losing her balance and the near-fall down a cliff-like drop still scared her senseless.
When she got up to leave, she found that Zheng Lanwen had sprained her ankle while lunging to save her. Lin Xin’s expression immediately became complicated.
Zheng Lanwen, however, offered an assuring smile and said, “You take the firewood back!”
Lin Xin stared blankly at the firewood on the ground for a while, then went forward to pick it up. She even asked the cameraman, “I’ll carry your equipment! You just support her.”
Zheng Lanwen shook her head: “I don’t need it. It’s not that serious.”
Lin Xin glanced at her foot, saw that she could indeed walk with a limp, and ultimately said nothing, turning to walk down the mountain.
Looking at Lin Xin’s retreating figure, Zheng Lanwen’s eyes dimmed.
The cameraman, carrying his equipment, continued to dutifully record. What a dramatic scene this was! How could he not record it? But he still asked Zheng Lanwen with concern, “Are you sure you don’t need help? I’d still have to hold you with one hand.”
Zheng Lanwen gave a bitter smile: “It’s not that serious; it’s just…” Just, I wanted to see if Lin Xin could take pity on me.
Did it hurt? Yes, it hurt! A bone-deep, searing pain!
But, this is the kind of pain I need… Only this kind of pain could mask the pain in her heart. Only this way could she truly understand the fact that Lin Xin would never look back.
Even though she risked her life to save her, even though she was injured because of her, Lin Xin’s personality was still so determined to keep her distance.
Let it hurt! Only after the pain could she remember it deeply.
On the way back, Lin Xin’s emotions had actually gradually calmed down.
But when she saw the courtyard gate, the terror and feeling of grievance in her heart suddenly surged up again.
She didn’t know why, but in the past, she could endure even the slightest discomfort or injury.
When other celebrities bought trending topics about falling while filming, getting injured, or getting sick to garner sympathy, Lin Xin had always disdained doing such things.
It was an actor’s duty; a few minor injuries were always normal.
If no one cared, she would just endure it herself. She didn’t need to appeal to fans for sympathy. She earned a lot; what was a little hardship?
Yet, tears welled up, and she wanted to cry.
From pushing open the courtyard gate to closing it, she saw Ye Linghua emerge from the living room door on the first floor. She was wearing a white tracksuit and white sneakers, with her long hair pulled up into a high ponytail.
Her deep-set features, even with a cool expression, looked gentle because of her peach blossom eyes.
When Ye Linghua’s worried gaze turned towards her, Lin Xin finally understood: she could act pathetic, she could seek sympathy.
Because now, there was always one person waiting there for her, ready to hug her and comfort her.
She was no longer alone; someone would care, and someone would fear even the slightest scrape on her.
So, she watched Ye Linghua rush out from the door to her side.
Even though Ye Linghua had clearly seen Zheng Lanwen walking with a limp, she still asked Lin Xin if she was alright first.
Lin Xin’s heart warmed. She shook her head. Although she wanted to tell her what had happened, she couldn’t organize her thoughts well enough yet.
Fortunately, no one was rushing for an answer.
After ushering Lin Xin and Zheng Lanwen into the living room, Yan Li felt the urge to hit himself.
Because this variety show was mainly about leisure and entertainment—a slow-paced show—it lacked the dangers of other shows and thus was not equipped with an ambulance or a doctor.
Since Zheng Lanwen was injured, staff had to be arranged immediately to take her to the hospital.
Lin Xin, however, refused to go, saying she was fine and just needed some iodine applied.
She sat closely relying on Ye Linghua, and together they listened as the cameraman recounted the entire incident.
After the cameraman had explained everything clearly, Ye Linghua couldn’t help but clench her fists, her heart tightly constricted.
Everyone offered a few words of comfort to Lin Xin, and then asked Ye Linghua to take Lin Xin upstairs to rest.
Zheng Lanwen hadn’t returned yet, and Luo Tian had rushed to the hospital. Meng Keling, who had been out doing errands for the past two days, was also rushing back, but it would take some time for her to arrive.
Ye Linghua helped Lin Xin up the stairs. The staircase was inherently narrow, making it awkward to support her. As a result, the two walked in a slightly peculiar, distorted way.
Lin Xin suddenly laughed: “I’m fine, why are you helping me?”
Ye Linghua looked up at her, her eyes deep and bright, but she said nothing.
Lin Xin chuckled sheepishly: “I just have a few scratches.” After such a long period of composure, and with Ye Linghua by her side, the bit of unease in her heart had long since vanished.
Ye Linghua looked down, holding her hand, and heading towards the room. She asked her: “Why were you so careless?”
Lin Xin’s heart tightened. Great, now I’m going to be held accountable.
“Uh, I was mainly feeling dizzy at the time.”
Ye Linghua still spoke calmly: “Heatstroke?”
Lin Xin looked up, frowned, thought carefully, and then said with uncertainty: “Maybe? I was dehydrated then.”
Ye Linghua’s voice remained cool: “Then why didn’t you accept Zheng Lanwen’s bottled water?”
There were two cases of bottled water bought in the downstairs living room, and everyone usually just grabbed one when going out to do things.
Zheng Lanwen brought a bottle with her and hadn’t opened it when they reached the mountain. Seeing Lin Xin was thirsty, she tried to hand it to her. Ye Linghua knew that Lin Xin was trying to avoid suspicion.
Lin Xin’s voice dropped by two degrees: “I didn’t want hers.”
Ye Linghua didn’t respond. When they reached the room, she closed the door. Ye Linghua glanced at the camera but ultimately ignored it.
She helped Lin Xin sit on the edge of the bed, then looked at Lin Xin seriously and sternly, saying, “I told you before that your safety is the most important thing at all times. It was hot, and you forgot your water. If you took her water, you took it. I will repay the favor later.”
Lin Xin looked away, stubbornly saying, “I don’t want anything from her.”
Ye Linghua’s breath hitched. She then said, “Alright, water is a small matter. But what I want to say is that you need to be more careful with dangerous things like this. Especially, don’t put yourself in danger because you want to avoid suspicion.”
She closed her eyes and said solemnly, “You need to think about it: Is there anything more important than your life?”
“Yes, there is!” Lin Xin’s clear voice replied, as if it were the most natural thing in the world: “Our relationship is more important than anything!”
Ye Linghua opened her eyes. Her gaze was dark, like the black cosmos, unfathomable.
Lin Xin choked. Under her cool and clear gaze, her voice weakened, but she was still unwilling to admit defeat: “You clearly care about my relationship with her. Don’t deny it; you do care. You even asked me two days ago why I rejected you back then. In fact, you just think I did it for Zheng Lanwen, right?”
Ye Linghua was stunned, not expecting her to remember the incident from two days ago until now. With a sigh, Ye Linghua said, “That’s not it…” But she couldn’t say it was completely unrelated.
Lin Xin’s voice was firm: “So, I have to prove to you that I’ve cut ties with her—completely and cleanly.”
Ye Linghua’s breath caught. She hadn’t expected that, in the end, this matter would be so closely related to her.
“I’m sorry.” In the quiet room, Ye Linghua suddenly apologized.
Lin Xin was taken aback and asked, “Why are you apologizing?”
Ye Linghua sat down beside her and said, “It turns out I was the one who made you feel insecure.” Looking at Lin Xin’s pure gaze, thinking of her anxiety during this period, and her strong resolve to prove herself.
Ye Linghua’s heart was deeply troubled. She was always afraid of the power of the plot, always afraid Lin Xin would look back, and always afraid that Zheng Lanwen could reignite something in Lin Xin’s heart.
Ye Linghua knew that her insecurity wasn’t because she knew nothing. It was precisely because she knew everything—knew it too clearly—that she felt insecure.
Yet, it turned out she wasn’t the only one feeling insecure. All this time, Lin Xin had been just as insecure.
And all of this was due to her own lack of commitment.
What she thought was a bad outcome, so she would just give up. What she thought was to just enjoy the process and not seek a result.
All these seemingly optimistic thoughts were just the insecurity of loving someone she couldn’t have.
So, she could only force herself to see everything lightly and enjoy the present.
Was the insecurity she caused Lin Xin due to her insufficient commitment?
Looking at Lin Xin’s stubborn expression and the way she seriously looked at her, Ye Linghua pulled her into her embrace. She said again, solemnly and affectionately, “I’m sorry, Xinxin, I’m sorry.”
Lin Xin leaned against her chest, confused by her sudden persistent apologies, but still said, “I told you not to apologize anymore.”
Ye Linghua held her even tighter. Resting her chin on her hair, the faint fragrance of her hair wafted out, seemingly drifting into her heart. The soft, gentle scent made Ye Linghua want to meld Lin Xin into her own body.
Ye Linghua: “You’re right; I care. Of course, I care. But Lin Xin, if I didn’t love you, why would I care?”
Lin Xin looked up from her embrace and asked, “So?”
Ye Linghua chuckled: “So, caring is a very normal thing. I love you, so I get jealous over you. This is so normal that it happens to all couples. I’m in love with you! I wish I had met you earlier than she did. I hate that I wasn’t there for every grievance you suffered. Lin Xin, I care because I love you. It’s not because I care that I don’t love you. You don’t need to prove anything. In the future, I will still get jealous if you get close to anyone else. You never need to prove anything to me. As long as I love you, I will inevitably be jealous of you for the rest of my life.”
Ye Linghua’s straightforward declaration made Lin Xin’s heart beat rapidly.
Her blood could barely keep up with her rapidly beating heart, causing her mind to feel hazy.
“Lin Xin, I am tied to you for this lifetime. I can only ask you to be more tolerant when I get jealous.”
Her gentle and soft voice spoke the most straightforward love confession.
Lin Xin felt dizzy and floating, as if she had fallen into a cloud.
“Okay,” she heard herself softly reply.
Then, she suddenly snapped back to reality, only to see Ye Linghua looking down at her, smiling. Lin Xin’s face flushed bright red with a pop.
Lin Xin’s thoughts drifted, then a flash went through her mind, and she accused: “The necklace I gave you… you haven’t worn it since you left. Did you… throw it away?”
Since Ye Linghua had said all that, Lin Xin decided to voice the things she cared about. Only by speaking them out could the knot in her heart be untied.
Ye Linghua was startled, then smiled, stood up, took her suitcase from the closet, and pulled a small velvet pouch from the bottom of the suitcase. She opened the pouch and poured the necklace into her hand.
The sparkling necklace, a combination of a fish tail and tiny diamonds, wasn’t a big brand, but it was a special gift Lin Xin had given her.
It was a gift she had almost lost once—it was profoundly significant.
“How could I throw it away?” Ye Linghua smiled and looked at Lin Xin.
Seeing the necklace, Lin Xin finally breathed a sigh of relief. A smile couldn’t help but appear on her face, and she asked, “Then why don’t you ever wear it?”
Hearing this, Ye Linghua couldn’t help but blush and said, “I was acting a bit like a CEO in front of you back then, so I was too embarrassed to take it out and wear it.”
Lin Xin laughed at this: “Very CEO-like.” Then her eyes curved like crescent moons, shining brightly: “Are you wearing it now?”
Ye Linghua looked at the necklace in her palm, then at Lin Xin’s expectant gaze, and no longer hesitated: “Yes, I am.”
Lin Xin quickly got up and rushed to her side, taking the necklace from her hand.
Ye Linghua was slightly taller than her, so she could only sit on the edge of the bed. Lin Xin then climbed up behind her, kneeling to fasten the clasp of the necklace.
The touch of her skin brushing against Ye Linghua’s neck, the warmth they exchanged, felt like friction on both their hearts. A tingling sensation spread throughout their bodies. Lin Xin watched the necklace being put on and felt utterly satisfied.
This is great!
Lin Xin felt a surge of excitement. She couldn’t help but leap onto Ye Linghua’s back, wrapping her arms around her neck, and loudly said, “Don’t throw it away even if you don’t wear it in the future.”
Ye Linghua was pressed forward a bit by her weight. She laughed and turned her head to look at her. At the extremely close distance, the intertwining of their breaths carried a strong sense of intimacy.
Ye Linghua leaned in for a quick kiss, pecking her on the corner of the mouth, and then laughed, answering her: “Okay.”
Yan Li looked at the monitor: “…”
He silently called Meng Keling. Meng Keling was very anxious and immediately asked, “How is Lin Xin? I heard Zheng Lanwen was badly injured; what about Lin Xin?”
Yan Li: “She’s perfectly fine. They just kissed.”
Meng Keling paused: “Huh?”
Yan Li said, “She got a few scratches, and then she and Ye Linghua suddenly came to a mutual understanding. Now she’s ecstatic and won’t let go of her hug.”
Meng Keling then suddenly realized what he was talking about, and laughed, scolding him: “Are you peeping?”
Yan Li: “What do you mean, I’m peeping? They were clearly swept away by their emotions and aren’t even bothering to hide from the camera.”
Meng Keling was finally relieved. The fact that Ye Linghua wasn’t causing a scene meant there was really nothing seriously wrong.
But they aren’t even hiding from the camera?
It seemed like a public announcement wasn’t far off.
Meng Keling suddenly stopped rushing. Instead, she looked thoughtfully at the trending search topic about Zheng Lanwen being injured and sent to the hospital.
Author’s Note:
I was quite shocked when I woke up this morning and saw the comments. I didn’t expect that chapter to be controversial. So, to prevent it from affecting my writing, I haven’t looked at the later comments.
I still need to explain here that everyone seemed quite concerned about Zheng Lanwen having too much screen time. This is mainly because Zheng Lanwen is about to go offline in these few chapters. In the original novel, Zheng Lanwen truly loved Lin Xin, and this point won’t be changed much here, so the plot still includes Zheng Lanwen’s prodigal’s return arc. The earliest version of this chapter was actually Zheng Lanwen saving Lin Xin and being left behind on the cliff. When I wrote it last night, I remembered there was a cameraman recording, so she wouldn’t have been left behind. I slightly modified it to have her return with them.
Also, I see in the comments that everyone is more worried about Lin Xin feeling sad for Zheng Lanwen and going back to her. I must say that this is definitely impossible. I replied to a few little angels in the comment section before that there would be no romantic entanglement with Zheng Lanwen, but there would still be plot moments with her, and this hasn’t changed.
Yesterday I was out all day picking someone up at the airport, and I was very tired when I came back at night. Plus, I was experiencing writer’s block and kept getting drowsy after writing a little. I couldn’t hold on any longer, so I wrote what I could and posted it. Because I know the entire plot development, I didn’t think that chapter would cause so much controversy; otherwise, I wouldn’t have forced it to be 2000 characters (I thought a little over 1000 was too little and I was too embarrassed to ask for another leave.
Since I don’t have a backlog of chapters, sometimes when I have writer’s block or am too tired, I can’t write much. Usually, I post as much as I can write smoothly, so I don’t specifically save chapters in advance. Also, the ending is coming soon, and I’ve been rushing to include all the necessary points and plot devices. I didn’t deliberately stop there. I apologize!
In any case, thank you for your support and for tolerating my frequent requests for leave. Thank you for supporting me! To those who were scared away, I sincerely apologize.
