After Transmigrating as the Northeast CEO's Pampered Little Husband - Chapter 74
The afternoon sun wasn’t too hot. Gu Jiaoyang walked around the mountain for a while, sent the foreman off on an errand, and headed towards the mountain springs he’d detected with his soul power.
Compared to the soil, the wild mountain spring water possessed a greater concentration of spiritual energy. In his former world, drinking mountain spring water was a popular way to replenish spiritual energy and repair the Lesser Heavenly Cycle circulation.
Therefore, if the quality of this spring water was good, his future cultivation of spiritual crops could yield results with half the effort.
The mountain paths were rough, hidden behind dense, green layers of trees. Since they were in the North, even with the thick vegetation, the air wasn’t humid and muggy like a Southern rainforest. Walking through the forest was refreshing and comfortable.
Gu Jiaoyang took a deep breath, remarking to himself that there was a definite reason why the more one connected with nature, the more spiritual energy they found.
The entire leased mountain plot contained four springheads and two pools. Gu Jiaoyang checked with his soul power and found that, likely due to being rarely visited by humans, these centres of spiritual energy showed little sign of man-made damage. One of the springheads even showed vague signs of developing into an Earth-tier Spiritual Spring.
If this was the case, using the mountain spring water for irrigation, rather than drawing water from surrounding rivers, would allow the spiritual seeds to grow much faster. With the addition of a potent array, they might grow even quicker than Little Red and the others in the home garden.
“As for Spiritual Gathering Arrays… I’ll need to draw five of them. The food we eat ourselves definitely needs the best, and for the medicinal herbs, I’ll draw a more energy-efficient one.”
The mountain paths weren’t muddy, but they were overgrown. Gu Jiaoyang encased his feet in spiritual energy, and as he climbed, he covered the distance quickly, both cleanly and rapidly. In about an hour, he had inspected all four springheads.
As expected, the Earth-tier Spiritual Spring indeed possessed a significant amount of spiritual energy. Most coincidentally, it was located right in the centre of the entire mountain plot calling it the ‘Dragon Eye’ wouldn’t be an exaggeration. If nurtured over time, it would become a spiritual entity that continuously supplied energy to the mountain.
“Lucky you fell into my hands. Don’t worry, as long as you work diligently for me, I’ll take good care of you.” Gu Jiaoyang stood by the spiritual spring’s edge and patted the surface of the water.
While an Earth-tier Spiritual Spring was still far from developing full sentience, it already possessed a weak sense of awareness. Gu Jiaoyang’s hand was wrapped in soul power and spiritual energy when he tapped the water. The confused spring, unable to offer a physical response, only caused the ‘field’ around it to become gentler.
“I’ll have Nuomi come over and keep you company in a couple of days. That wild hedgehog gets bored staying at home all day. With you here, this place is better suited for him than the Shangjing forest.”
“He can also serve as a good watchman.”
After a short session of breathing exercises by the spiritual spring to recharge, Gu Jiaoyang headed down the mountain. Dai Gucan was in the local guesthouse, attending a video conference. Seeing his little lamb descend, he quickly shut his laptop and went to meet him.
“Tired?” Dai Gucan took a bottle of mineral water, twisted the cap off, and handed it to Gu Jiaoyang.
Gu Jiaoyang wasn’t thirsty, but he took the water from Dai Gucan’s outstretched hand and took a sip, winking at Dai Gucan once he was finished.
“Help me wash my hands. I touched a lot of dirt.” He held out his hands to Dai Gucan, palms open.
Dai Gucan smiled indulgently and took his little darling’s paws.
The soft, white hands were a size smaller than his. There was barely any dirt on them. Dai Gucan affectionately squeezed the soft flesh in his palm, unable to help but agree that his father had been right: when you love someone, you adore everything about them, no matter how you look at them.
The washbasin in the village guesthouse was old-fashioned, made of bare concrete, and covered in some moss, but it was surprisingly clean. The water flowed from a column pipe, giving it a unique, rustic beauty.
Perhaps it was the red bricks and green tiles he could see, the tall, ancient trees, the green plants climbing the mottled walls, or the crisp chirping of birds in the distance the combination of these things stretched time out. As Dai Gucan gently washed Gu Jiaoyang’s hands under the cool running water, he suddenly said:
“When we get old, let’s find a beautiful, scenic place, far from the city, but not too remote. We can plant crops, keep chickens and ducks. If you fancy a hotpot in winter, we can raise a goose… we’ll dig a cellar to store lots of vegetables. Even if the end of the world comes, we’ll be able to look after ourselves.”
Dai Gucan was clearly serious when he said this, genuinely longing for such a life. His normally deep, cold eyes, usually so focused on business, were now bright with a thousand tender hopes as he spoke.
Gu Jiaoyang was stunned. He hadn’t expected the “dominant male supporting character,” the benchmark of city elites who controlled such a huge company, to have such a grounded dream.
And one that was so similar to his own.
“We should raise a big goose too. It can guard the house, and we can stew it in an iron pot! Goose is all red meat; it’s delicious!” Gu Jiaoyang mused excitedly. In his old world, his master’s sect was poor, and their life was quite frugal.
He had always dreamed of one day living a self-sufficient life, spending his days meditating and cultivating in his own little spiritual field. He hadn’t expected his boyfriend no, they were practically an old married couple now to be such a perfect match in spirit.
Dai Gucan was taken aback when he heard Gu Jiaoyang’s words. He had felt a small pang of regret as he spoke, knowing that in most people’s eyes, choosing to leave a comfortable city life for the countryside was highly irrational and overly idealistic. His little darling deserved to be pampered.
After the tragedy of his parents’ death, he had been bound to Dai Gucan too early, before he even had a chance to fully experience the colourful world. If he were to chain him to his side, and then expect him to move to the countryside when they grew old… His fantasy wasn’t a definite plan, just a small wish. Having spoken it out loud, he suddenly regretted his frankness, afraid that Yangyang might feel some dissatisfaction.
But clearly, he was overthinking things. His little darling was so much better than he could have ever imagined. So much so that sometimes he wondered what he had done to deserve him.
“Thank you.” Although there was no need for such formality between them, the emotion of the moment and the sheer luck of finding a partner so perfectly compatible in both soul and body left him unable to find any more suitable words than these two.
“Silly.” Gu Jiaoyang smiled, recognising the man’s worry, and rubbed Dai Gucan’s palm reassuringly. “Lots of plants mean lots of spiritual energy, which is perfect for cultivation. Besides, if we have our own secluded haven, it doesn’t matter how much noise we make.” Gu Jiaoyang poked Dai Gucan’s abs with his elbow. Dai Gucan instantly understood. While his face remained composed, the tips of his ears flushed red.
Although he and his little darling had started cultivating together, he was significantly older, and his bones and meridians were mostly set. Their dual cultivation now mainly served to slowly strengthen his physique and purify his body. Because of his own cultivation, Yangyang had exceptional stamina.
Now, Dai Gucan used every spare moment in the home gym to practice his cultivation methods and strengthen his core. His abs had become firmer recently, much to his little darling’s pleasure. Being constantly touched and rubbed, he had developed a slight pride in his physique. Few colleagues his age could maintain such a figure, and since he had a dear little darling at home, he considered himself to have achieved a ‘Double Grand Slam’ in both career and family.
He didn’t expect to have children to continue his lineage; he could always adopt an orphan. His parents’ only wish before they died was for him to find a companion and move past the tragedy, and nothing more. His aunt, after everything that happened, had no demands of him either, only hoping that the psychological damage he had sustained would eventually heal.
More than the struggle of surgery, pregnancy, and childbirth, which would strain his body, Dai Gucan wanted his little darling to be happy and stress-free by his side.
“Let’s go. Now that we’ve seen it, let’s go home. I’ll contact the construction team. You can feel free to design and arrange things exactly how you want.”
“Sounds good.”
After washing their hands, the two of them lingered for a moment before driving back home.
