After Transmigrating as the Northeast CEO's Pampered Little Husband - Chapter 58
When they woke from the illusion, they were still lying in a tangled heap on the bed. Dai Gucan felt the warm touch on his lips and froze for a moment, then instinctively ran his tongue over them.
His lip was definitely cut; there was a faint, metallic taste of blood.
“Mmmph!” Gu Jiaoyang awoke, saw Dai Gucan was also conscious, and scrambled to get up in a panic. But a human can’t easily move when their waist is pinned down. He struggled for a while, only managing to squirm around under the weight of Dai Gucan’s arm.
Feeling the atmosphere was completely off, Gu Jiaoyang pinched Dai Gucan’s cheek and said dangerously, “Let go of me!”
Dai Gucan was still dazed. It wasn’t until Gu Jiaoyang pinched his face hard enough to hurt that he reacted, slowly lifting his arm from Gu Jiaoyang’s waist. He laid his hand flat on the sheets beside him, then slowly clenched his fist, feeling the warmth left over from the contact.
“Your body…” Dai Gucan lay there for a moment before belatedly asking, sitting up and pulling Gu Jiaoyang’s wrist towards him for a good look.
“It was an act. Your fake Qin Yuan really was trying to stab me, though. She actually…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Gu Jiaoyang’s hand was yanked and spun around by Dai Gucan, who then focused his large hand on Gu Jiaoyang’s chest, feeling around several times to confirm there was no bandaged wound.
You can’t tell him!
The Overseer System, sensing Gu Jiaoyang was about to confess, quickly interrupted. The distress in the voice, despite the energy blocking the illusion, was palpable.
Gu Jiaoyang checked his words immediately upon hearing Little Zhi, sighing mentally at how frustrating it was to fight the trash virus system all by himself.
“But you have to at least tell me why the virus system wants to possess Dai Gucan’s body, don’t you?”
Gu Jiaoyang instinctively felt the matter wasn’t so simple. Why would the system single out the second male lead, of all people?
[I don’t know either. We were attacked during the factory rollout, so my data is incomplete.]
“Right, you’re brilliant,” Gu Jiaoyang rolled his eyes mentally. This rubbish system was utterly useless. “Well, take a look at that pill and identify which virus system it belongs to.”
Gu Jiaoyang patted Dai Gucan’s confused head, directing Little Zhi in his Sea of Consciousness.
“What?” Dai Gucan gripped Gu Jiaoyang’s hand, looking up to ask.
Actually, your aunt has been possessed by a really evil spirit. We’ll go tomorrow and help your aunt get rid of the evil spirit, and then she’ll be back to normal, Gu Jiaoyang patted Dai Gucan’s hand, substituting a more palatable explanation.
Dai Gucan fell silent for a moment, then finally added, his tone low, “Next time, don’t ever do that again.”
“Alright.”
Gu Jiaoyang sensed that Dai Gucan was still processing everything and felt somewhat bewildered. Emotional trauma was easy to incur, but even after getting rid of the virus system, it would still take time for the wounds to heal.
“Go to sleep. When you wake up tomorrow, everything will be fine.” Gu Jiaoyang gently rubbed Dai Gucan’s cheek, smiling like he was soothing a child.
Dai Gucan caught Gu Jiaoyang’s wrist as he rubbed his cheek, feeling the warm touch on his face. He ultimately tolerated the action.
“Yangyang, I feel somewhat relieved now…” Dai Gucan glanced at Gu Jiaoyang, then looked down as if he had thought of something.
“Relieved about what?” Gu Jiaoyang was in a good mood now, excited about tearing up a virus tomorrow, and his words were light.
“It’s nothing.” Dai Gucan didn’t answer directly, but Gu Jiaoyang felt it would have been a very sweet answer.
Since he didn’t reply, Gu Jiaoyang didn’t press him further. He coaxed Dai Gucan, who must be exhausted after emerging from the illusion, to rest.
“Then I’ll wait until you’ve thought it through to tell me.”
“Alright.”
Such a good boy.
The rest of the night was dreamless.
The next day was bright and sunny. The sun was hot—it was summer, after all. The surrounding greenery was lush, with many trees, so the cicadas were deafeningly loud.
Gu Jiaoyang woke up early to the chirping cicadas outside. He narrowed his eyes and kicked Dai Gucan lightly.
The ordeal of the illusion the previous night must have been mentally exhausting, or perhaps the long-standing questions had finally been answered, because Dai Gucan didn’t wake up early today. Gu Jiaoyang only needed to turn his head to see the CEO sleeping soundly on his side under a thin blanket.
Sleeping late for once on a weekend.
Gu Jiaoyang kicked him again, and Dai Gucan finally opened his eyes. His long eyelashes cast a small shadow beneath his eyes, making them look as beautiful as if lined with eyeliner.
“You’re actually waking up later than me?” Gu Jiaoyang teased, getting out of bed first to get dressed.
“Mm. No dreams,” Dai Gucan replied, getting up as well. His muscles, flexing from the movement, glistened slightly in the morning light, making him quite eye-catching.
Gu Jiaoyang imagined the scenario of Dai Gucan having frequent nightmares and waking up early. He sighed.
Such a good person. If it weren’t for the virus system, he would probably be happy right up until he met the protagonist’s love interest.
“Thank you for everything,” Gu Jiaoyang suddenly blurted out, turning back. Dai Gucan, who was facing away and dressing, paused slightly, not understanding his words.
After breakfast, Gu Jiaoyang prepared Dai Gucan mentally, sent the nanny out to buy groceries, and asked Dai Gucan to invite Qin Yuan over to the house.
It was better to handle this sort of thing privately at home.
“What’s the matter?” Qin Yuan, receiving Dai Gucan’s message, suspected nothing. She returned to the Dai residence, sat in the small garden pavilion, and asked Dai Gucan, who was seated opposite her, while sipping her tea.
Dai Gucan looked at Qin Yuan’s face, then averted his gaze to Nuomi, who was picking up a ball in the garden. He asked, “Auntie, do you remember what wish I made on my ninth birthday?”
Qin Yuan froze, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. The detail was well-hidden, but it didn’t escape the notice of Gu Jiaoyang, who was concealed nearby.
“My memory isn’t what it used to be. I probably forgot. Why, did the wish come true?” Qin Yuan smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Dai Gucan, however, seemed relieved by her response. “…I didn’t make a wish. It was you who made the wish. You wished that I would stop being trapped in my own prison over my parents’ death. You also said…”
“They would be watching over me from the sky, and you would love me just like them and never marry in this lifetime. We even argued about it, remember?”
Having said this, Dai Gucan finally seemed to let go of something. He exhaled and leaned against the back of the rattan chair, gazing faintly at the dazzling sunlight outside the pavilion.
“I should have asked you this a long time ago, but I never had the courage.”
“You’re not my aunt anymore, are you?”
Qin Yuan put her teacup down on the table, a hint of danger in her eyes as she looked at Dai Gucan. “…What nonsense are you talking about? Has your illness relapsed?”
“Why, I’m your aunt! Has your illness returned? So much so that you’d dare to say such hurtful things to your aunt?” Qin Yuan’s voice was sharp and accusatory, sounding genuinely hurt by her nephew’s words. She even started to sob softly afterwards.
“Cry your eyes out, you little biscuit! I’ve been annoyed with you for ages!” Before Qin Yuan could even produce tears, Gu Jiaoyang couldn’t stand it any longer. He dropped his breath-concealing spell, rushed out, and unleashed a torrent of lightning talismans onto Qin Yuan’s body.
“Ah!”
At first, Qin Yuan continued her act of non-resistance, still wailing even as Gu Jiaoyang grabbed her neck and pinned her to the ground.
“Dai Gucan! I am your aunt! Are you just going to let an outsider bully me like this?!”
Dai Gucan looked at Qin Yuan on the ground, a momentary look of regret in his eyes, but he finally clenched his fist and turned away, making his position clear.
“See? You’re 107, aren’t you? You played Dai Gucan for so long, and you had the nerve to stab me, too? You dared to cause trouble for your Grandpa here. Grandpa is going to teach you a good lesson about respecting your elders today!”
Gu Jiaoyang had worried Dai Gucan might intervene, but he was relieved to see the CEO was so compliant. He had long suspected Qin Yuan; he just hadn’t been willing to admit it.
Realising Dai Gucan truly wasn’t going to help, “Qin Yuan” finally panicked and began to fight back.
“You little brat! You’re asking for death!” Virus System 107 was deeply hidden. Even after being exposed, it still didn’t directly engage, merely subtly guiding Qin Yuan to fight back.
But Gu Jiaoyang was no longer the little rookie from the Qi Refining stage who filmed that show in W City. His Foundation Establishment made his spiritual energy output transcend the ordinary. For the virus system, which was restricted in this world, a direct confrontation was no match for Gu Jiaoyang.
“Pah! I’ve been wanting to deal with you for ages! Come on, hit me, neener neener!!!” Gu Jiaoyang easily evaded Qin Yuan’s attacks. She was just an ordinary human body; it was already difficult for her to fight back while being pinned down by Gu Jiaoyang.
“Dai Gucan! Are you just going to watch your aunt get beaten?!” Realising she truly couldn’t hit Gu Jiaoyang, Qin Yuan shouted at Dai Gucan.
Dai Gucan sat rigidly in the chair, covering his ears with his hands, clearly trying to avoid listening.
He did feel a pang of sympathy. Even if an evil spirit had stolen his aunt’s body, it was still his aunt’s body, and she must be hurting.
But he also knew he couldn’t interrupt Gu Jiaoyang from getting rid of the evil spirit for his aunt.
He decided to focus on how to compensate her once she woke up.
Dai Gucan’s “coldness” gave Gu Jiaoyang the perfect opportunity. He stopped playing games with Qin Yuan, cast a Sleeping Spell to knock her out, pinned her down, and used a Soul-Searching Spell to enter her consciousness and wake the body’s true owner.
“Qin Yuan! Wake up! If you don’t wake up soon, your nephew will die!”
Upon reaching Qin Yuan’s Sea of Consciousness, he found the parasitic virus system. Unlike the fortress Little Zhi had built in Gu Jiaoyang’s mind, the parasite’s structure was more like a flattened honeycomb, irregularly shaped and riddled with holes.
After capturing the energy trace of the virus system from the Spirit Chrysanthemum pills, Little Zhi had already consulted the database and revealed the virus system’s number and function:
Virus System 107, highly skilled at manipulating the mind, possessing immense mental power. Its ability was to induce psychological breakdowns to possess a body.
“Your time is up, grandson.” Gu Jiaoyang held Little Zhi in his hand, smiling contemptuously at the silent honeycomb structure.
Perhaps fate was fair. As long as the virus systems didn’t expose themselves, the Overseer System couldn’t touch them. However, once exposed, they rarely stood a chance against the Overseer System’s extermination protocols.
“How did you find out?”
After a long silence, a very low voice, laced with malice, came from inside the structure.
“It’s nothing. The Overseer System just happened to find a cultivator userme. I just happened to know about the Spirit Chrysanthemum. And Dai Gucan just happened to have an episode while I was there.”
“You win. But, our main system will not let you off lightly!!!!” After delivering this standard villain’s threat, Virus System 107 imploded its own structure, gathering all its mental energy for a final attack on Gu Jiaoyang.
“Die! Hahahaha!!!” The immense explosive force and mental attack hit him head-on, causing Gu Jiaoyang’s consciousness to blur slightly. Virus System 107 was ecstatic, seizing the moment to escape through a crack.
But plans changed. Just as he flew towards the crack, about to break through the shield and escape the body, a spherical shield blocked his path. He then found himself tightly gripped by a hand.
Gu Jiaoyang stood by the crack, pinching the escaping Virus System 107. He spoke with a chilling smirk, “Where are you trying to go, grandson?”
“No… impossible!!!! How could you!”
The virus system shrieked in disbelief, feeling the crushing pain of its body being squeezed.
“Tsk, why are you shouting so loudly? Nothing is impossible for your Grandpa. You think I’d be fooled the first time in W City and let you run off a second time?”
“It was you, wasn’t it, Miss Li Lili?”
Gu Jiaoyang smiled malevolently. His blinking eyes looked innocent, but the force in his hand steadily increased, gripping the elastic ball of the virus system and deliberately playing with it.
“Li Lili died three years ago. You were remotely controlling a fake soul to impersonate her and divert my attention, weren’t you?”
“You and your colleagues planned this all along? Using another girl to shift my gaze, planning to kill me in W City?”
“Didn’t you all claim virus systems were united? Why did you sacrifice 014 just to relax my guard?”
“It’s a shame I’m perfectly fine. And you won’t get your wish of taking Dai Gucan’s body.”
“No… No!!!”
Everything was laid bare by Gu Jiaoyang. The despairing Virus System 107, played with in Gu Jiaoyang’s hand, screamed. Its flowing code flickered wildly the core structure exposing itself under the destructive pressure.
“Killing you is too easy. For Dai Gucan, for Qin Yuan, and for me, I’ll make sure you know what suffering is!”
Gu Jiaoyang wrapped him in a binding spell and tossed him to the lurking Overseer System, who was already drooling with anticipation. He instructed Little Zhi not to devour him but to lock him up and torment him until he was destroyed.
Aren’t you going to ask him why he wanted to steal Dai Gucan’s body? Little Zhi looked at the virus system in the newly created cage, poked the cage with its foot, and turned to ask Gu Jiaoyang.
“He wouldn’t tell the truth even if I killed him. It’s better to find the truth ourselves than listen to a lie.” Gu Jiaoyang cast a punishment spell on the virus system, allowing Little Zhi to randomly select elemental punishments ice, fire, lightning, water to play with the captured 107.
“Let’s go. Dai Gucan must be getting anxious.” Gu Jiaoyang dusted off his hands, which weren’t actually dusty, and woke up from Qin Yuan’s Sea of Consciousness.
