After Transmigrating as the Northeast CEO's Pampered Little Husband - Chapter 52
“Waaah, waaah, howl…” Dai Gucan knelt on the floor, clinging to Gu Jiaoyang’s legs and crying, though there weren’t many tears just a few shallow drops clinging to his long eyelashes, looking surprisingly beautiful.
“What is the meaning of this? Didn’t we break up? You’re the one who said it!” Gu Jiaoyang was startled by the sudden action. He really hadn’t expected a formidable CEO to be so down-to-earth, bursting into tears like that.
“I didn’t!”
“What?”
“I didn’t! Waaah, waaah, I didn’t want things to turn out like this, waaah…”
“Can you speak properly without the strong accent?” Gu Jiaoyang pushed at Dai Gucan, who was clinging to his leg and suddenly shouting. His voice was genuinely loud, making Gu Jiaoyang’s ears hurt.
“Waaah, waaah, I howl, I don’t want to break up, waaah, but if you’re with me, you’ll be… waaah, howl…”
“…I didn’t understand. No, I mean, I didn’t understand.”
Gu Jiaoyang frowned. Even though he hadn’t fully understood Dai Gucan’s slurred words, he sensed that he genuinely didn’t want to break up.
There must be a reason.
“Speak properly!” Gu Jiaoyang grabbed Dai Gucan’s ears, straightened his head, and made him meet his gaze.
Break up or not, the matter of the Spirit Chrysanthemum pills had to be clarified.
“Why are you staring at me so aggressively?” Dai Gucan was likely still tipsy, and with a slight fever, his eyes looked confused.
“I’m asking you, what do you mean by this? And where did those pills come from?” Gu Jiaoyang tried his best to articulate every word clearly, but Dai Gucan still gave him no answer.
“You’re scolding me! I won’t talk anymore! Waaah, waaah, howl…” Dai Gucan blinked, hugged Gu Jiaoyang’s legs, and promptly fell asleep, giving Gu Jiaoyang no chance to ask further questions.
“Hey! Dai! Hey!”
“You are absolutely impossible… sigh.”
Dai Gucan, who had fallen asleep instantly, clung to Gu Jiaoyang’s legs. Gu Jiaoyang pulled with all his might but couldn’t free himself. A 1.88-metre tall man clinging to his legs was enough to completely immobilise his lower body.
“Tell me, do I really like you, I wonder?”
Gu Jiaoyang sighed, reaching out to stroke Dai Gucan’s head. Sometimes, he genuinely couldn’t tell if he was in a relationship because of love, or just for the sake of being in a relationship.
In the end, Gu Jiaoyang had to call the nanny to help him move Dai Gucan to the bedroom and tuck him in.
Back in his own bedroom, Gu Jiaoyang summoned the Overseer System and placed the scattered pills on his desk.
“Little Zhi, do you recognise these things?” The pills, scattered on the desk, glowed with a moist, lustrous sheen under the light, but Gu Jiaoyang wasn’t fooled by their appearance; he knew they were bad news.
I am accessing the database. Please wait, User.
The beep-beep sound of data retrieval came from his Sea of Consciousness. Gu Jiaoyang poked the pills with a cotton swab, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
I found some information, but it is not detailed.
“Let me see.”
“…Stores souls, and feeds itself and the stored soul by preying on other souls…”
“That’s similar to what I knew, but there’s one condition: there’s a prerequisite for the Spirit Chrysanthemum to store a soul. I don’t know what it is, and your records don’t mention it either.”
Gu Jiaoyang touched his neck. The seductive fragrance emanating from the scattered pills on the desk was like an invisible knife, reminding him of the danger of the entire situation.
“So, whose soul is being nurtured? Who does this person want to resurrect? What is the purpose of turning it into a pill? And why were they feeding it to Dai Gucan?”
Little Question Mark, do you have many friends?
“You’ve been watching too many videos again, haven’t you? Try to think if this is related to the virus systems.”
Gu Jiaoyang frowned, staring at the pills. The fact that the Spirit Chrysanthemum was cultivated on Dragon Guard Slope suggested some link to Dai Gucan. Coupled with the breakup, thinking back on all of Dai Gucan’s recent behaviour gave him an indefinable feeling.
I cannot detect any correlation unless the opponent makes a move. The data provided by the General Bureau is incomplete. All I can offer are the system numbers and known abilities. There is no information regarding any other expressed abilities.
“Show me all of it.”
Gu Jiaoyang covered the pills with a tissue, placed them in the drawer, and decided to wait until Dai Gucan woke up tomorrow to question him.
Modelling data, please wait.
“107, 413?” Gu Jiaoyang browsed the data sent by the system, sinking into contemplation. His primary focus remained on Dai Gucan. His current theories were mere guesses; everything hinged on Dai Gucan waking up tomorrow.
“However, there’s another problem: I think I already told him I’m moving out tomorrow.”
Huh?
Right, oh yeah.
Gu Jiaoyang woke up very early the next day, but when he went downstairs, he discovered Dai Gucan was even earlier he had already left for work.
“Tsk, it’s only half past seven. Was his tearful episode last night too glorious for him to show his face?” Gu Jiaoyang yawned and sprawled on the dining table. The kitchen auntie had left breakfast for him.
Ah, well, too tempting to refuse.
Even if he was moving out, he had to finish this breakfast first.
“Ding-dong!”
His phone beeped with a new message notification. Gu Jiaoyang swiped the screen open with one hand and saw it was from an unknown contact.
“Qin Yuan… isn’t that Dai Gucan’s aunt?” Gu Jiaoyang took a sip of water and checked the message. Dai Gucan’s aunt, Qin Yuan, had messaged him, arranging to meet at a cafe in Changjing. Her wording was polite, and she addressed him as “Mr Gu” at the start.
He wasn’t quite sure of the aunt’s intentions. After all, he didn’t know if Dai Gucan had told his aunt about their relationship, or the breakup…
“Alright, I will definitely be there on time.”
Since the sender only wanted to ask some questions, Gu Jiaoyang thought about it and decided to accept the invitation, figuring he could also try to glean some information about the Spirit Chrysanthemum pills from the aunt.
“I’ll move in the afternoon then.” Postponing his moving plans, Gu Jiaoyang packed up and went to the meeting that afternoon.
Qin Yuan’s chosen location was in the outskirts, quite far from the Dai residence. Since leaving required passing through the main gate of the villa complex, and knowing he had to return, he reluctantly asked his ex-boyfriend’s driver to take him. He intended to pay the taxi fare, but the driver clearly dared not accept the money and remained silent throughout the entire journey.
When Gu Jiaoyang entered the cafe, a piano piece in G major was playing through the speakers. The small private room was on the second floor. This clearly indicated that Qin Yuan preferred a quieter space for conversation, or that she had something to say that shouldn’t be heard by a third party.
“Hello, Auntie.”
The moment Gu Jiaoyang stepped inside, his eyes landed on the woman sitting in the tight-fitting dress. Although she was no longer young, Qin Yuan still possessed an air of elegance and sophistication, maintaining grace in every gesture.
Based on looks alone, Qin Yuan could easily rival many female celebrities. However, for some unknown reason, despite her beauty, the mystical aura of her features appeared to Gu Jiaoyang as a thick fog, much like Dai Gucan’s.
Are they truly related then?
“Hello. You must be Yangyang.”
Qin Yuan nodded and smiled at Gu Jiaoyang, running a hand with bright red fingernails through her hair. A gentle tenderness drifted in her eyes, making her look exactly like a cultured lady should.
“Is there something important you wanted to discuss by asking me to meet you?”
Gu Jiaoyang wasn’t very good at communicating with women, so he got straight to the point.
“Yes, there are some questions I’d like to ask you about Gucan. But there’s no hurry. Let’s have some coffee and chat slowly.”
Qin Yuan handed the menu with gilded lettering to Gu Jiaoyang, smiling.
“Alright.” Gu Jiaoyang looked at the menu and ordered a latte, feeling a little constrained as he examined the patterns on the table.
While meeting a partner’s family member privately felt inappropriate, especially since they had broken up, he felt compelled to investigate the medicine issue.
Perhaps every cultivator enjoys sticking their nose into other people’s business.
“The coffee here is very good. You should try it.”
“I know you were dating our Gucan…”
“Pfft! Cough, cough, cough, cough…”
He had just taken a sip of the newly served coffee when Qin Yuan brought up their relationship. Gu Jiaoyang was genuinely startled, feeling inexplicably like a legendary tale of a school romance caught by a parent.
“I don’t approve of your relationship.”
“Huh?”
“Auntie, actually we…”
“Don’t bother talking. I will not agree to Gucan being with you. The Dai family can’t afford a wasteful little creature like you!”
“We…”
“Here is a cheque for one million. Take it and clear off.”
Tactical lean back.
Gu Jiaoyang watched Qin Yuan’s face suddenly shift from gentle to gloomy, glanced at the blue bank card on the table, and set his coffee cup down. He narrowed his eyes, unable to stop himself from arguing back.
“Auntie, I don’t think your nephew is only worth one million, is he?”
“You truly are a vain, gold-digging little creature! Gucan really should see your true face!” Qin Yuan’s face twitched with anger, and she spoke harshly with raised eyebrows.
“Auntie, I don’t mean to pry, but is this a tradition in your wealthy family… hiss…?”
Gu Jiaoyang flicked the bank card back with his index finger, the force perfectly controlled so that the card stopped right in front of Qin Yuan.
“Also, I didn’t spend much of your Gucan’s money, alright? I can pay him back for the room and board. Auntie, have you been reading too many melodramatic romance novels about the elite?”
Gu Jiaoyang took a sip of his coffee. This cup was Qin Yuan’s treat, so he might as well drink it.
“Melodramatic elite… Heh, heh…”
Qin Yuan suddenly uncrossed her legs and swept the hair from her chest behind her. She smiled gently at Gu Jiaoyang, then, with a change of expression as fast as turning a page, pulled a fruit knife from her luxury handbag and lunged at him.
“Die!”
“Holy crap?”
Gu Jiaoyang splashed the coffee at Qin Yuan’s face, grabbed the vase on the table to use as a shield, and blocked her. Qin Yuan, armed with the knife, paused after being hit with the coffee, then immediately moved and charged at him again with the blade raised.
“Hold on, Auntie, if you have something to say, say it properly! I’ve already broken up with your precious nephew, so stop this, hey!”
Gu Jiaoyang truly hadn’t expected Qin Yuan to be so insane. It seemed she had only arranged this meeting to try and kill him.
“Die!”
“Die!”
Sizzle… Detected traces of virus system activity. Initiating retrieval and analysis.
“A virus system?”
Gu Jiaoyang pushed Qin Yuan off him, his expression instantly turning cold.
“So, it was you.”
