- Chapter 3 - Feed Me
The little lazybones was still fast asleep. Dai Gucan wasn’t sure if he should wake him; the boy certainly hadn’t eaten lunch yesterday, and breakfast had been missed as well. Having worked for years and knowing full well the detriments of skipping meals, Dai Gucan stood by the bed, the crucian carp soup in his hand now resting on the table, hesitating for quite some time.
Meanwhile, Gu Jiaoyang, still sifting through his memories, was nearly driven to distraction by what he found. The original host shared his name a good name, admittedly but his life in his birth family could only be described as somewhat wretched.
The reason was simple: the original host’s birth was not something his parents had desired. His mother and father were essentially a couple who preferred a child-free lifestyle. For them, this child was merely proof that there was nothing physically wrong with them, a tool to stop the wagging tongues of others. Consequently, the original host was raised entirely by a nanny. After the elderly nanny passed away, he effectively became an “orphan”. The only difference between him and a real orphan was his affluent living conditions; he had experienced absolutely no familial affection whatsoever.
What was worse, his parents didn’t just ignore him; they prevented his grandparents from seeing him too, fearing that their lack of affection for the child would be exposed.
They were truly a bizarre and cold-blooded pair.
Fortunately, the nanny had raised the original host well. At most, his character was a bit cowardly, but his classmates had a decent impression of him. After all, a young master who was generous with his money and reasonably good-looking could always garner a fair bit of goodwill from passersby.
The original host didn’t really make friends, nor did he live in the dorms, so growing up, he had no close mates by his side. His classmates’ impression of him stopped at the superficial level of “family has money” and “looks good, studies seem alright”.
Then the memories shifted to yesterday’s events. The original host really was unlucky; he had chased a stray cat into an alleyway, only to stumble upon a man on the phone plotting to harm someone. He was knocked out instantly and forced to become a pawn in the scheme. Presumably, the man who struck him hadn’t expected the young master’s skull to be so fragile; one blow had sent him straight to the afterlife.
And that was how Gu Jiaoyang came to be here.
No wonder he had felt so strange earlier. He had entered the body the moment the original host died. While being dragged through the intense intimacy by the man, he had been adapting to the vessel, which was why everything had felt floaty, like an illusion.
Tsk, tsk, tsk… truly tragic.
Having finished reviewing the memories, Gu Jiaoyang was filled with emotion. This was a classic case of a “neglected cabbage withering in the field” a pitiful child. In three years of senior secondary school, he hadn’t seen his family once. Aside from hiring a new cleaner and a driver, his parents had left him in the country to attend school alone, completely at ease with their neglect.
But this was for the best. It saved him the trouble of explaining to them why their son had died and how he had arrived.
Gu Jiaoyang decided that if the original host’s parents didn’t come looking for him, he wouldn’t go looking for them to explain anything.
“Hah…”
Yawning, Gu Jiaoyang woke up from organising his memories. Before he could even rub his eyes, his gaze locked with the eyes of the man standing beside him.
Oh, hello.
A proper stunner. Just his type!
Gu Jiaoyang performed a carp-kip, sitting bolt upright. Looking at the man standing by his bed with an unreadable expression, he nearly started salivating.
You couldn’t blame him. After being single for over twenty years, even a dog looked handsome to him, let alone a living, breathing, gorgeous man like this.
He naturally recognised him as the man he had spent the blissful night with. With a double endorsement of both technique and looks, Gu Jiaoyang actually felt a strong urge to pounce on the handsome bloke for round two.
From Dai Gucan’s perspective, however, he had just been debating whether to wake the little lazybones for some soup when the sleeping boy suddenly stretched, then sat up in a fright the moment he saw him. With those large, wet eyes blinking pitifully, hugging the duvet and shrinking back against the headboard, the boy looked one hundred per cent insecure.
In reality, this was just due to the original host’s features. Gu Jiaoyang’s shimmering, wide eyes weren’t conveying grievance; they were conveying pure covetousness for Dai Gucan’s mature, 1.9-metre physique!
A beautiful misunderstanding, starting from first sight. Tsk.
“Don’t be afraid. I won’t do anything else. Get up and drink some fish soup; you haven’t eaten for two meals,” Dai Gucan said in a low voice. Perhaps because he was responsible for the situation, and the boy in front of him looked so fragile, Dai Gucan’s tone was exceptionally gentle completely different from his usual commanding presence in the outside world.
“Mm-hm.” Gu Jiaoyang gave a small hum of agreement, staring at the handsome man for a good while before shifting his gaze to the large bowl in his hands.
It really was a basin-sized bowl; the rim was definitely as wide as his waist!
But the aroma was indeed delicious. Gu Jiaoyang sniffed slightly. Having only eaten special crops cultivated with spiritual energy since he began his Taoist practice, his palate had long since gone numb. If he hadn’t been under his Master’s watchful eye constantly, he would have blown his meagre savings on gluttony and lived paycheque to paycheque long ago.
Because of his young age and lack of use, Gu Jiaoyang’s new vocal cords were very tender. To tell the truth, his voice came out soft and possessed a clarity unique to teenagers. It sounded a bit like acting coquettish, or perhaps making a request without any arrogance.
Dai Gucan hadn’t dealt with such a seemingly innocent boy since he became an adult. Scions of aristocratic families usually learned that set of superficial etiquettes from childhood; even ten-year-olds had long learned to observe expressions and colours, never looking at a stranger with such guileless eyes.
So, Dai Gucan encountered his first problem: how to communicate with a boy half his age.
“Drink it,” he continued dryly, shoving the fish soup into the boy’s arms. Since there was a serving tray underneath the bowl, he didn’t mind the breach of etiquette involved in eating in bed. In any case, it wouldn’t spill on the sheets and considering how the boy’s body had been used by him… he deserved some special treatment.
Recalling certain images from the previous night, Dai Gucan’s face usually thick-skinned heated up rarely. The junction between his ears and neck felt warm, though fortunately, his blushes never showed on his face, so his expression remained unchanged.
Dai Gucan might have been able to handle every situation with his unique poker face, but Gu Jiaoyang wasn’t truly an eighteen-year-old baby. Having reached the Qi Refining stage, he could still sense fluctuations within a short range.
Like the other person’s suddenly erratic heartbeat.
Gu Jiaoyang secretly curved the corners of his mouth. A bright idea sparked in his mind. Holding the waist-sized bowl, he turned his head and blinked. He didn’t need to force his features; the original host’s expression was naturally milky and sweet.
“Sir… I… my hands hurt.”
To show that he was really in pain, Gu Jiaoyang gave a small sniffle. Although his body had fully recovered during his sleep through the circulation of spiritual energy, it couldn’t stop his nature suppressed for years from wanting to act up.
It’s easy to change the landscape, but hard to change one’s playful nature!
“Hm?” Dai Gucan thought he had misheard.
“Sir, I said… my hands hurt. Maybe it’s because…” Gu Jiaoyang held back his laughter and continued to act, dragging every ‘white lotus’ character he had ever seen in TV dramas out of his memory and putting them to use.
So, he wanted to be fed?
Dai Gucan swallowed a colloquial question that nearly slipped out in his native accent. He froze for a moment but eventually compromised, sitting on the edge of the bed. He picked up the spoon, scooped up some soup, and held it to the boy’s mouth.
Fine. He owed him this much, anyway. And besides.
That mouth really was tender.
Dai Gucan stared at the boy’s lips, silently cursing himself as a “beast”.
Meanwhile, Gu Jiaoyang, having successfully tricked the handsome guy into serving him personally, was blooming with joy inside.
This man is so handsome. These hands are so beautiful!
