- After Transmigrating as the Northeast CEO's Pampered Little Husband
- Chapter 25 - You Didn’t Expect That, Did You?
Dai Gucan had spent the entire day working in his study. Since he had asked the housekeeper to bring his lunch up to him, Gu Jiaoyang had assumed for the better part of the day that Mr Dai was out at the office.
With the master of the house seemingly away, Gu Jiaoyang naturally felt a little more at ease to do as he pleased. Consequently, having finished his livestream well before dinner time, he turned his attention to the sprawling stretch of turf outside the Dai residence.
In his original world, forming a Spirit Field required a massive convergence of spiritual energy to fuel the transmutation array. While the process itself wasn’t difficult, the ambient spiritual energy in this world was incredibly thin. A gathering array would only be able to draw a minuscule amount from the surroundings. Therefore, to maintain the proper growth of crops within a Spirit Field, he would need to bridge the deficit using other objects rich in energy.
Items such as spirit jade, emeralds, Hetian jade, and… RMB notes. These things were either born of heaven and earth or had been forced to store energy after being the object of intense human focus for long periods.
Because banknotes carry the weight of human desire and expectation—the power of wish fulfilment and change hands so frequently, the spiritual energy they contain is often far more abundant than that found in certain magical artefacts. Compared to high-quality jade, which was difficult to source, using RMB rich in potent energy as the supplementary eye of the gathering array was simply more cost-effective.
In short, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call a Spirit Field a money-eating machine.
Gu Jiaoyang went downstairs and out to the entrance. The vast garden was planted with solid, no-nonsense turf. Perhaps due to Mr Dai’s distaste for anything too garish, the garden contained nothing but lawn and the sort of roadside shrubs that existed solely to collect dust.
The Dai residence was exactly like the houses described in novels: the estate was enclosed within high walls, with greenery bordering the perimeter. There were a few stone stools and tables on the front lawn, but they looked as though they had never been used. The real garden was at the back of the house. It was meticulously maintained by staff dedicated to lawn care, and there was even a small glasshouse.
However, when Gu Jiaoyang walked closer, he realised the glasshouse wasn’t housing rare blooms or exotic saplings. Instead, inside the glass structure were several neat rows of Styrofoam boxes filled with lettuce, purple perilla, and spring onions.
Right then. That was very… patriotic.
Gu Jiaoyang opened the door and stepped inside. He noticed that the lettuce and the giant spring onions were already bolting, sprouting flower buds. Although it was a glasshouse, the roof vents were open, so the temperature inside wasn’t much different from the outside.
In other domineering CEOs’ homes, the conservatories would be filled with air-freighted roses, tulips, and other prestigious flora. But here? Come July or August when the flowering season hit, this entire glasshouse would be a sea of lettuce flowers, onion blossoms, and perilla blooms.
The structure looked quite small from the outside, but as Gu Jiaoyang ventured further in, he discovered an attached room at the back. He had initially assumed it was a potting shed for tools, but upon entering, he found it planted with a considerable number of tomatoes, cucumbers, and aubergines. The zoning was very distinct. There weren’t many plants, and some appeared to be root vegetables with only their leaves showing, which Gu Jiaoyang didn’t recognise.
Gu Jiaoyang, who had originally planned to use the Dai garden to attempt growing some spiritual plants, suddenly felt his thinking had been too backward. He had underestimated the power of the Divine Farmer that ran in the blood of the people of this nation.
His initial plan had just been to grow some spiritual food for himself. Ordinary food contained too many impurities; for him, a high intake meant a high accumulation of waste products, which made his monthly body-tempering sessions exceptionally painful.
Nobody likes being in pain, and Gu Jiaoyang certainly didn’t want to suffer unnecessarily.
Of course, if he grew spiritual plants, he could feed them to Mr Dai as well. That way, Mr Dai would have a clearer mind and a healthier body. Perhaps after a meal of spiritual vegetables, his eyesight would improve enough to cure his blindness regarding the ‘protagonist shou’, and with a better physique, certain aspects of their married life might become more… harmonious.
However, with his current cultivation stuck at the Qi Refining stage, his spiritual energy wasn’t sufficient to create a gathering array large enough for this much soil. He decided to start small—just a few plants. He would simply infuse them with spiritual power manually. When these plants bore fruit, they would become spiritual vegetables. He could then harvest the seeds and plant those when his cultivation level was higher, which would save the energy cost of directly transforming ordinary plants via an array.
Since Mr Dai had already planted so much, he decided he might as well conduct his experiment right here.
Gu Jiaoyang squatted in the greenhouse and selected the best-looking tomato plant. He tore off a strip from a nearby plastic fertiliser bag and tied it around the stem. After a moment’s thought, he ran back to his room to fetch a pen and paper to give his chosen tomato a name.
Little Red.
He used some tape to make a name tag and hung it on Little Red’s ‘chest’.
“Right then, son. From today on, you are the most handsome tomato in the entire garden! You must make Daddy proud!”
Gu Jiaoyang patted Little Red’s leaves, channeling spiritual energy into it, waiting for the cumulative effect to transform it into a spiritual plant.
All in all, he felt that the Little Young Master and Mr Dai were actually a very good match.
Consequently, when Dai Gucan finally finished dealing with the documents in his hand and stood by the window for a breather, he spotted a tiny figure darting about in his vegetable house.
Not that the vegetable house was particularly precious, but everything inside had been planted by Dai Gucan’s own hands, so he generally disliked anyone touching it.
It was the little one inside.
Holding his cup of goji berry tea, Dai Gucan pressed closer to the window and confirmed that it was indeed his youngster acting suspiciously in his vegetable patch.
What on earth is he doing?
The vegetable house had a glass roof, so from the upper floor, the interior was clearly visible. Dai Gucan stood there, sipping his tea, watching his little husband whispering to a tomato plant for ages before hanging a sign on it.
What does it say?
Overcome with curiosity, Dai Gucan squinted, trying to make out the writing on the little tag. But no matter how good his eyesight was, he couldn’t read small text from the third floor. After pressing his face against the glass for a good while with no success, he finally remembered he had tools for this. He turned, grabbed a monocular from the bookcase, and took a look. He discovered his youngster had given the little tomato a name tag.
It was called ‘Little Red’.
“What nonsense.”
Lowering the monocular, Dai Gucan let out a soft, inexplicable laugh. Somehow, he had been charmed by the youngster’s childish behaviour. He suddenly felt a bizarre urge to dig up that special little tomato plant and keep it in his office.
He really must be dizzy from approving too many files.
Dai Gucan stood by the window, watching with great interest as Gu Jiaoyang pushed aside the other seedlings around the special tomato, clearing a circle of space to leave it standing proudly in isolation.
Ding-ling~~
“Who the hell is it now?”
His mood interrupted, Dai Gucan frowned and turned to pick up his phone.
“Mr Dai, um… two men have arrived at the company. They’re weeping and demanding to see… to see…”
“See whom? I don’t pay you a salary for you to learn how to stutter. What is it? Speak.”
“The two men are crying and wailing, demanding to see your w-wife…”
The assistant stuttered, his voice dropping to a whisper by the end.
The assistant felt aggrieved too. Usually, he was efficient and highly capable, but the two men outside the company today had bluntly demanded to see the ‘CEO’s Wife’. The mere term ‘CEO’s Wife’ had fried his brain, leaving him unable to recover for quite some time.
Their confirmed bachelor of a CEO had a wife?!
But considering the way the two men were howling like ghosts and threatening suicide if they weren’t announced, the assistant decided it was safer to call and ask. Perhaps it was related to some major event.
“What wife? Since when did I have a… cough. They want to see Yangyang?” Dai Gucan was momentarily stunned by the word ‘wife’, but immediately remembered he was indeed engaged to Gu Jiaoyang—though technically, he was a fiancé.
They hadn’t even announced the engagement publicly yet. How did someone already know?
Dai Gucan’s first thought was a conspiracy involving leaked information, so his expression darkened.
“Who is Yangyang? Er, the wife, right? Yes. Two people outside the company are dead set on seeing your wife. They say only your wife can save their lives. If your wife doesn’t see them, they claim they won’t live much longer.”
“Based on the information they provided, I suspect they might be mentally unstable due to some trauma. However, since they seem to know some rather private matters, I thought I should report it to you.”
…
Dai Gucan looked bewildered after hanging up. However, considering his youngster might actually know these two neurotic men—perhaps they were relatives or involved in some issue?
It was getting late, and he wasn’t about to drive all the way to the office for two random people, so he instructed his assistant to find a car and bring them over for questioning.
regarding the issue of the youngster he had brought home, Dai Gucan had essentially stopped indulging in conspiracy theories. Based on the evidence collected by the private detective he’d hired, his youngster was indeed completely innocent. He had simply been walking down the street when he was knocked out by one of Wang Yongyuan’s henchmen, forcibly dragged into the situation. He was the most innocent and pitiable victim in the whole affair.
As for why the youngster knew certain private things about him, he didn’t plan to ask directly. If there really was a problem, asking would only alert the enemy. However, he leaned towards the idea of it being some harmless little secret. Besides, Gu Jiaoyang was already living under his roof; he believed he had plenty of time to figure it out slowly, or wait for his slightly mysterious little husband to tell him personally.
So, before dinner, Gu Jiaoyang who was engrossed in modifying the tomato plant and had just selected a cucumber to work on was called into the living room by the housekeeper to meet Zhu Zhengwen and Old Li.
“It’s me! Master!!! I’m the one who met you briefly in the lavatory at Dujiang Villa! Master, I beg you, save the two of us! I’ll pay whatever you ask!”
Zhu Zhengwen and Old Li, having been driven to the Dai residence, saw Gu Jiaoyang entering the living room from outside, his hands still covered in mud. They immediately scrambled over, crying and wailing, throwing themselves at his feet. They clutched Gu Jiaoyang’s muddy hands and wept uncontrollably, abandoning all dignity.
“‘Master’?” Sitting on the sofa, Dai Gucan savoured the word, looking at Zhu Zhengwen and Old Li as if looking at the mentally deficient.
“Let go of his hands!”
Having just concluded that these two were lunatics, Dai Gucan was infuriated to see Zhu Zhengwen scrambling over to grab his youngster’s trotters. He sprang up from the sofa, unceremoniously grabbed Zhu Zhengwen by the collar, and tossed him aside. Perhaps due to his height and strength, dragging the nearly 200-pound fat man required no effort at all.
What brain-dead trash is this? Asking for a hook-up from the Dujiang Villa toilets! Perverts!
“Boohoohoo, Master… help us! You can see ghosts, can’t you? Please ask her to leave; her death has nothing to do with us! I beg you, help us stop her from haunting us!”
Dai Gucan’s aura was terrifying. Zhu Zhengwen, already suffering from neurasthenia due to being harassed by the vengeful spirit for days, trembled in fear as he begged for mercy from the floor. He looked both comical and pathetic.
Gu Jiaoyang glanced cautiously at Mr Dai. He really hadn’t expected these two to show up at the door. Judging solely by the bite marks from the vengeful spirit on their bodies, if things continued this way, they really would be kicking the bucket within a few days.
“Master!!! Please save me!!! As long as you save me, I’ll donate my entire fortune to build you a Daoist temple! Anything! I beg you!!!” Zhu Zhengwen and Old Li had been tormented beyond reason. At this point, they would clutch at any straw, let alone Gu Jiaoyang, who could truly see spirits and remain unharmed.
“Drag them out. Call the police.” Having listened for a while and realising they weren’t relatives nor did they have legitimate business, Dai Gucan coldly instructed the security guards. He couldn’t believe that in this day and age, there were still lunatics running around loose.
“Wait! Mr Dai! This… this… actually, I do know a little bit about treating illnesses and such.”
“Really, trust me~”
Gu Jiaoyang couldn’t watch the money fly away. He quickly stepped forward, grabbed Dai Gucan’s arm, and began to wheedle, while simultaneously splitting his consciousness to knock on the System.
Xiao Zhi, let me ask you a question. Can I let Mr Dai know about my ability? I won’t tell him I’m a transmigrator, just that I’m the successor of such-and-such sect. Otherwise, how can I earn money? There’s no way to bypass Mr Dai.

“Yes, yes, yes! I didn’t expect to be able to team up. You broken system, you’re finally being loyal for once. If we’re a team, I can tell him, right? Sigh, finally I can be open about it.” Gu Jiaoyang breathed a sigh of relief. He had actually planned to tell Mr Dai about his situation eventually, but hadn’t figured out how to implement it. This emergency forced his hand, but faced with the first order in this new world, Gu Jiaoyang decided to come clean.
He had to confess sooner or later. Better to speak early and get rich early!!!
Congratulations on forming a team. We hope your team achieves a perfect victory against the virus system. Thank you for using our service.
As the observation system’s notification ended, a team panel appeared in Gu Jiaoyang’s sea of consciousness. The avatar for his teammate, “Dai Gucan”, was displayed it was that photo of the “Country Husband” wearing a dark pink apron and making steamed buns, the one Gu Jiaoyang had yearned for but failed to save.
Damn, this system is suspiciously human-like.
Having obtained the System’s consent, Gu Jiaoyang didn’t have time to ask what use the team system actually had. He immediately pulled on Mr Dai with newfound confidence.
“Mr Dai, listen to me. I’m going to tell you a secret. Can you ask everyone else to leave first? I promise I’m not lying to you. It’s a real matter, okay?” Gu Jiaoyang shook Dai Gucan’s arm and raised his other hand in a swearing-oath gesture.
Dai Gucan, shaken back and forth by Gu Jiaoyang, perhaps wasn’t thinking clearly either. Surprisingly, he couldn’t resist Gu Jiaoyang’s wheedling and agreed, despite the absurdity of the situation.
He waved for the security guards to take the two brain-damaged men to the entrance to wait. Only he and Gu Jiaoyang remained in the living room.
“Mr Dai, actually, I am a Daoist cultivator. I am the fourth-generation successor of the Wonton Sect!”
Mr Dai: “………”
Dai Gucan, who had sat on the sofa expecting the youngster to whisper some important secret, was caught off guard. He sat stone-faced as he listened to the youngster solemnly utter those words, plunging him into deep confusion…
He felt he needed a sip of goji berry tea to calm down.
