After Transmigrating as the "Green Tea" Fake Heiress, I Got My Happy Ending with the Real Heiress - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The gym on the first floor of the villa was lined with floor-to-ceiling windows. With all of them open, the room was extremely well-ventilated, the air was very fresh, and they could hear the chirping of birds coming from the forest outside the villa.
The still-gentle sunlight streamed in, casting patterns across the floor.
“If you’re not used to indoor exercise, we can run laps outside,” Wen Yun said casually, noticing Ruan Yu looking out the window.
“No need for the trouble, this is perfect!” Ruan Yu quickly responded.
Meeting her impeccable, polite smile, Wen Yun couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
She had been a working professional and knew exactly how exhausting it was to maintain such a courteous smile.
She wondered when the protagonist would be able to genuinely smile in front of her.
The treadmill started working, a faint whirring sound echoing in the gym.
After showing Ruan Yu how to use the treadmill, Wen Yun ran alongside her at the same pace for fifteen minutes as a warm-up, then took her to try other equipment.
Ruan Yu was very reserved, hesitant to touch anything or use much force. This gave Wen Yun her opportunity. With every piece of equipment she introduced, she seized the chance to drop a “green tea” comment.
“These two ropes are for you to pull. You don’t need to worry about breaking them. Even if you did, it would definitely be because of poor quality, not your fault. I’ll ask the butler to replace it.”
“This is a dumbbell. It’ll tire your hands out. You have an exam soon, so over-exerting yourself might not be a good idea, right?”
“…”
She made sure to introduce all the suitable equipment to Ruan Yu. While resting, she stretched her legs and said, “Dad and Mom have an important meeting to attend today. They have to be there at nine, which conflicts with your exam time, so Aunt Ge will have to accompany you to school.”
Ruan Yu gently murmured “Mhm.” “I know, Aunt Ge told me last night.”
“Then I’ll be home alone today. I’ll be so lonely,” Wen Yun intentionally sighed and blinked, asking her, “Can I go with you too?”
“Of course,” Ruan Yu immediately nodded without hesitation.
“Then it’s settled!” Wen Yun’s eyes curved in a smile. “If we have enough time, I can even take you for a tour of the campus so you can familiarize yourself with the environment beforehand. Our school is huge, and I’d be really worried if you got lost while I wasn’t around!”
They exercised in the gym until the butler came to remind them about breakfast. They put down the equipment and, after a brief rest, Wen Yun prepared to take Ruan Yu upstairs for a warm shower.
As they passed the living room, she saw Father and Mother Wen already seated for breakfast on the other side of the large fish tank. She greeted them enthusiastically: “Dad and Mom, I’m taking Xiao Yu upstairs for a shower first. Please enjoy your meal.”
She deliberately emphasized “upstairs.” After speaking, she happily took the hand of Ruan Yu, who was saying good morning to the Wen parents, and ascended the stairs without looking back.
Warm water poured down, and the girl cupped her hands to splash water on her face, her fingers unconsciously brushing the butterfly hairpin securing her fringe.
Different. Everything was truly different.
The mirror quickly fogged up. Ruan Yu turned off the water, braced herself against the wall, and let out a soft sigh.
Even though she grew up in a superstitious village, she never believed in any supernatural phenomenon. However, the things that had happened to her, and the changes in Wen Yun, had overturned her original beliefs.
Since she could be resurrected and return to the past, why couldn’t Wen Yun become someone else?
But she had never experienced this kind of care, nor had she faced kindness from a former enemy who was now full of concern. For a moment, she didn’t know how to react.
Furthermore, that person was neither a relative nor a friend, yet she was taking such good care of her. Was she perhaps plotting something?
Ruan Yu couldn’t figure it out, as her time spent with that person was too short.
But as she got dressed, she slowly calmed her scattered thoughts.
She was not afraid of death. No matter what happened in this life, all she had to do was be prepared—”when the troops come, the general defends; when the water comes, the earth dams it”—that was enough.
Ruan Yu came out after showering and saw Wen Yun standing at the door looking at her phone.
She was looking down, her finger occasionally swiping the screen. Her brow was furrowed, her expression serious, and her grip on the phone was tight. She seemed to have seen something that made her angry.
Ruan Yu hesitated, then walked forward and whispered, “Yunyun, I’m done showering.”
Wen Yun acknowledged her a little distractedly, put away her phone, and smiled at her. “You go eat first. Just tell Aunt Ge what you want.”
Watching Ruan Yu go downstairs, she took a deep breath and instructed the System to establish a connection with the “Sneaky Observation Squad” group chat. If it detected keywords like “countryside” or “transfer student,” it should notify her immediately.
If any idle, foolish kid dared to bully the protagonist after school started, she could be prepared in advance.
By the time Wen Yun had showered and gone downstairs, Father and Mother Wen had already left. Only Ruan Yu was left in the dining room drinking nutrient porridge, with two clean empty plates in front of her.
The butler stood nearby and, seeing Wen Yun approach, quickly asked, “What would Miss like to eat?”
Wen Yun had reviewed the original owner’s diet memory while showering. She named the three breakfast items the original owner liked most, then sat down in her seat and looked at Ruan Yu.
“If you’re not full, eat more,” she said sincerely. “Everything in the Wen family is what you deserve. Don’t ever shortchange yourself!”
Ruan Yu paused in her eating and looked up in surprise.
Wen Yun knew she had never thought about these things. She smiled at her and continued, “If there’s food you don’t like, or a regional specialty dish you really want, tell Aunt Ge immediately. She’ll let the chef know.”
“We’re not very clear on your preferences and dietary restrictions. You have to speak up for yourself. Be bold, okay?”
Ruan Yu quickly recovered but only replied politely, “Mhm, I understand.”
Facing her distant and cautious tone, Wen Yun felt a little disappointed, but she quickly cast the feeling aside.
Everything required a gradual process. She and the protagonist had only known each other for half a day! And given the protagonist’s introverted personality, how could she easily open up?
At a quarter past eight, a black luxury car drove away from the Wen villa.
Wen Yun sat in the back seat, occasionally asking Ruan Yu, who was beside her, “Are you comfortable? Be sure to say so if you’re not.”
“I’m fine, I was just overly nervous yesterday,” Ruan Yu explained with a smile and a shake of her head. “When I was back home, I took the school bus to school. The mountain roads were very bumpy, but I never got carsick.”
To prove she wasn’t carsick, she even took out a mathematics practice test and started working on it in the car.
Wen Yun watched. At first, she wanted to tell her not to do that, but after observing for a while, she noticed that Ruan Yu’s complexion didn’t change, and she genuinely didn’t seem to be struggling with carsickness. Only then did she put away her intention to express concern.
She took out her phone and downloaded files like the school map, class layout, and schedule from the school group, intending to consolidate her memory again so she wouldn’t actually get lost in the school the original owner had attended for nearly two years.
About twenty minutes later, the luxury car stopped at the gate of Langying Foreign Language Academy.
The butler and the driver got out, opening the doors for Wen Yun and Ruan Yu respectively.
After getting out of the car, Wen Yun noticed more than a dozen luxury cars scattered around the school gate. It seemed there were quite a few transfer students.
According to the original novel’s setting, Langying Foreign Language Academy was indeed the strongest school in the area in terms of faculty and teaching resources. Even knowing that transferring schools would affect their children to some extent, parents still tried every means to enroll their children here every year.
Wen Yun and the butler walked Ruan Yu to the testing area, where they were stopped by a teacher maintaining order who apologized profusely: “Excuse me, Miss Wen, non-examinees must stop here.”
So, she stayed put, pointed to a tall pomelo tree beside them, and said to Ruan Yu, “The first session finishes at eleven. Aunt Ge and I will wait for you under the tree beforehand. We’ll do the same for the two sessions this afternoon. I’ll take you to the cafeteria for lunch after the last one!”
Ruan Yu smiled and said “Okay.” She walked into the teaching building under their watch, her eyes slightly lowered, revealing a hint of contentment that even she hadn’t noticed.
Upon entering the classroom, she put away all distractions. As soon as she sat down, she took out her stationery pouch and exam permit, quietly reciting essential classical phrases to calm herself down, and waited composedly for the test papers to be distributed.
Before going to bed last night, she had reviewed the scope of the entrance exam. Her extensive knowledge accumulated from preparing for the gaokao (national college entrance exam) in her past life became clearer little by little as she reviewed.
The entrance exam wasn’t particularly difficult; it was just a placement test, much simpler than a mock exam. Having lived a second life, she was very confident she would achieve a high ranking.
After Ruan Yu entered the teaching building, Wen Yun greeted the butler, took the parasol handed to her, and toured the European-style aristocratic school that resembled a castle by herself.
“Can you record the paths I walk?” she asked the System while strolling. “I mean, a real-time recording.”
“Yes, Host.”
“Then start recording now, cross-reference the locations with the downloaded campus map, and mark them on the real-time image,” Wen Yun instructed. “Also, specifically mark the surveillance cameras. This is for the protagonist’s personal safety on campus.”
Since she had the System, it was always safer to have extra preparation.
After wandering through most of the campus, recording as she went, Wen Yun already had a good grasp of the layout. Her fingers fiddled with her phone, and she felt a sense of anticipation.
She wondered if the original author had a strange preference for “East meets West,” as this European-style campus had quite a few Chinese landscapes, such as pavilions, a lotus pond, and small gardens.
Wen Yun took many photos along the way. Many areas were quiet, suitable for relaxing, and also had surveillance, which reassured her.
Senior year was highly stressful, and these places could serve as spots for the protagonist to unwind during school hours.
The sun was getting hotter. Even with an umbrella, Wen Yun couldn’t stay outside for long. Coincidentally, there was a book café not far away. She quickly walked toward it.
As the automatic door opened, a blast of cool air conditioning hit Wen Yun, making her feel comfortable all over. She folded her parasol and was about to find a seat when she saw someone waving at her.
“Yunyun! Over here!”
Wen Yun looked in the direction of the voice and saw a heavily made-up girl with long, straight, wine-red hair and a puff-sleeved short dress smiling brightly. The moment their eyes met, the name “Lin Qiqi” automatically flashed in Wen Yun’s mind.
…Why was this little villain here?!
