After Transmigrating as the "Green Tea" Fake Heiress, I Got My Happy Ending with the Real Heiress - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Facing Wen Yun’s expectant gaze, Ruan Yu’s expression subtly changed, but she still said apologetically, “I think I should go wash them first. I’ll be right back.”
Wen Yun respected her wishes and politely stepped aside to let her pass, no longer trying to persuade her.
When Ruan Yu returned after washing her hands and sat down at the piano, Wen Yun quickly retreated to the door, thoughtfully closing the slightly ajar door to prevent the music from traveling downstairs, afraid that an awkward performance might be heard by the Wen parents.
The next second, she heard a very familiar prelude.
— It was Beethoven’s “Für Elise.”
Ruan Yu played very slowly. Her fingers danced gracefully on the keys, rising and falling, alternating like breathing. The melody produced was exceptionally smooth and pleasing to the ear.
Wen Yun was completely unprepared for her to play the piano, let alone to play it so well. For a moment, she was stunned, immersed in the beautiful melody.
When she snapped out of it, she realized that Ruan Yu hadn’t played the whole piece, but only the opening section, which had simple chords and a gentle, repetitive melody. She also didn’t use the pedal. After playing the final “la” and chord, she stopped.
Seeing Ruan Yu look at her uneasily, she quickly clapped and praised with a smile, “That was really good! Your hand posture is beautiful. Did you study piano with a teacher?”
“Yes, my music teacher at school taught me a little.” Ruan Yu followed her lead, saying shyly, “I only know how to play this one, and I haven’t learned the whole thing yet.”
These humble words made Wen Yun want to say more, but before she could, the butler’s voice echoed at the door: “Young ladies, please come downstairs for dinner.”
Wen Yun turned to respond, only to see that Ruan Yu had already put the dust cover on and was closing the piano lid.
Their eyes met, and Wen Yun said apologetically, “I’m sorry, there’s no time to let you try the other instruments, but you probably have a basic idea now, right?”
Ruan Yu nodded with a slight smile, but her mind had begun to form a different plan.
Before opening the door, Wen Yun couldn’t help but remind her again: “When we eat later, wait until Dad finishes his opening remarks before you stand up to toast him and Mom with your drink. Don’t reach for dishes that are far away, and don’t stand up to get food. If there’s something you want to eat, just tell the butler. Other than that, don’t speak up proactively.”
“Understood, I’ve made a note of it.” Ruan Yu nodded again. Her obedient appearance made Wen Yun feel exceptionally relieved.
Tonight’s dinner was considered a welcoming banquet for Ruan Yu, and it was very lavish.
Father Wen had the butler open a bottle of red wine and prepared a large glass of thick, sweet corn juice for Wen Yun and Ruan Yu.
Once all the glasses were full, he raised his wine glass and warmly said to Ruan Yu, “Xiao Yu, welcome home!”
Ruan Yu quickly responded, stood up, and extended her glass of corn juice to lightly clink it with his. She then said to Mother Wen, “Mom, I’d like to toast you as well. I’ll be troubling you and Dad for your care from now on.”
“Trouble? Don’t be silly, we’re family. It’s our duty to take care of you.” Mother Wen smiled as she clinked glasses with her and personally put food on her plate. “Xiao Yu, try this! It’s the chef’s specialty pan-seared steak!”
Wen Yun sat to the side, watching this scene of parental love and kindness. While maintaining a pleasant smile, she felt only a sense of irony in her heart.
She hadn’t really done much today, only changed a few small details, yet it had caused such a big shift in the Wen parents’ attitude towards the protagonist.
In the original novel, this dinner was the event where Father and Mother Wen saw through the protagonist’s “unrefined” country mannerisms, which led to their decision to give up on their biological daughter.
But what was the protagonist’s fault?
She was switched at birth, grew up and was educated in the countryside. While she was honest and kind, her perspective was limited to a small town. After leaving her familiar hometown, entering the wealthy Wen family, and witnessing the difference in living standards, she was already lacking in confidence. Even if she forced a smile, she would quickly be seen through by these seasoned socialites.
If she wanted to bridge this gap, Wen Yun couldn’t think of a better way than to try and try again.
She truly couldn’t understand why the Wen parents would look down on their already unlucky biological daughter when they knew the difference in education and environment between the true and false heiress was vast.
The Wen family adhered to the rule of “no talking while eating.” Thus, Father and Mother Wen were only polite and enthusiastic at the start. Once the first bite of food went into their mouths, they fell silent, maintaining elegant postures while observing Ruan Yu.
Wen Yun was also secretly watching Ruan Yu.
The nightgown the butler chose for Ruan Yu was short-sleeved, so she didn’t have to worry about staining her sleeves while reaching for food. Ruan Yu’s current etiquette was entirely expressed through her actions, which made Wen Yun’s eyes light up.
She noticed that the protagonist was constantly ensuring she made no mistakes, yet without being so reserved as to appear timid or self-conscious. She actually seemed quite composed.
As the dinner was nearing its end, Mother Wen put down her chopsticks and asked Ruan Yu, “Xiao Yu, do you like the art studio upstairs?”
Ruan Yu quickly put down her chopsticks as well, smiling with her eyes. “I like it very much. Thank you, Yunyun, for letting me stay there.”
Mother Wen nodded with satisfaction and asked, “Xiao Yu, do you have any hobbies? Mom wants to get to know you better.”
“I… I don’t have any hobbies for now,” Ruan Yu shook her head and said apologetically, “Our school focuses on academics, and I’ve always been concentrated on my studies.”
This statement nearly made Wen Yun choke, and she stared at Ruan Yu in shock.
Hadn’t they just agreed? To tell her parents directly what she liked? Ruan Yu had clearly agreed, so why did she suddenly…
She subconsciously looked at Mother Wen, whose face showed awkwardness, and her gaze held a hint of dislike.
— According to the original setting, for an affluent family like the Wens, a child having no special talents was equivalent to having no proper upbringing, and thus, being unrefined.
“Xiao Yu, you just played ‘Für Elise’ for me!” Wen Yun couldn’t help but prompt. “Don’t you like playing the piano?”
“Xiao Yu can play the piano?!” Mother Wen was surprised.
“I only learned a little from the school teacher. I don’t know if that counts as liking it.” Ruan Yu nodded slightly, her voice softening. “What Yunyun heard just now is everything I know.”
“It’s okay, Xiao Yu!” Wen Yun quickly said. “Dad and Mom love you so much, they will definitely hire the best tutor for you.”
She then looked at her parents, her voice cheerful: “Right, dear Dad and Mom?”
The Wen parents exchanged a look, and Mother Wen spoke again: “Of course. As long as Xiao Yu is interested in playing the piano, Mom will arrange a tutor tomorrow!”
Wen Yun watched Ruan Yu’s eyes flicker repeatedly, seemingly in thought.
After a long while, she heard her say seriously, “Dad and Mom, I want to learn both piano and painting. I will follow your arrangements for the classes, and I promise to study hard to be the best! I just hope this won’t be too much trouble for you…”
“It’s a good thing to have your own hobbies. Dad and Mom fully support you!” Mother Wen quickly nodded, then asked with concern, “But the new school year starts with the senior year of high school. Can Xiao Yu keep up with her academic subjects?”
“No problem, please don’t worry.” Ruan Yu replied, giving a shy smile.
Wen Yun, however, knew that Mother Wen was only asking casually and wasn’t really concerned about it.
To the Wen parents and the brother who was far away in another country, Wen Yun, whom they had watched grow up, was the most important family member. Ruan Yu was merely an outside chess piece—to be discarded if useless—and was not even worthy of being given the surname “Wen.”
Just as she was thinking this, she heard Father Wen speak: “Xiao Yu, Dad has heard about your adoptive parents’ situation and knows the Ruan family took care of you. Logically, you should change your surname to Wen and move your residency registration to our home after moving in, but since you will turn eighteen in a year, Dad wants to leave this choice to you. What do you think?”
Here it comes, the “choice” that’s no different from a false promise!
Wen Yun cursed inwardly, but kept her mouth tightly shut.
Perhaps due to the psychological shadow left by the suffocating original text, she inexplicably didn’t want to persuade the protagonist to stay in the wealthy family.
“Thank you, Dad, for your concern.” Ruan Yu replied without hesitation, “I will consider it carefully, and I will give you an answer in a year.”
The protagonist’s prudence made Wen Yun feel relieved.
Father Wen, however, was somewhat surprised, and his eyes showed astonishment.
But he didn’t say much, simply nodding and instructing the butler, “Later, take Xiao Yu to the guest room to unpack and see if anything is missing so we can buy it soon.”
The guest room had actually been prepared long ago. The desk, bed, and utilities were all complete. The color scheme was mainly white and dark brown, a minimalist-style room. Square cold-light lamps were embedded in the ceiling, casting a clean light that looked like newly replaced bulbs.
Ruan Yu had just finished telling the butler her clothing size and was pushing her suitcase into a corner of the room when Wen Yun’s voice rang out behind her: “New clothes will take a day or two to be ordered and delivered. Xiao Yu, wear my clothes for now!”
She turned around to see Wen Yun holding a few outfits in one hand and a small, exquisitely dressed bear doll in the other, her smile bright: “You don’t mind, do you?”
“Why would I mind! Thank you, Yunyun!” Ruan Yu quickly waved her hands, her gaze involuntarily drawn to the little bear in her hand.
That was Wen Yun’s favorite Lenai Bear. Each one was custom-made overseas and was quite expensive. They were usually kept by her bedside and never taken out in public.
She watched the butler take the clothes and walk towards the wardrobe. Wen Yun then stepped forward and tucked the Lenai Bear directly into her arms.
“This is my Little Reggie. I’m giving him to you now!” she heard Wen Yun say with a smile. “It’s your first time in such a distant place. With him to keep you company while you sleep, you won’t feel lonely at night.”
Holding the fluffy little bear, Ruan Yu was startled at first, then smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Yunyun, I’ll take good care of him.”
It wasn’t until Wen Yun politely said “goodnight” and left the room with the butler that Ruan Yu’s eyes instantly changed the moment the door closed. She immediately inspected the bear in her arms, not missing the pockets or small accessories.
…There was nothing.
No camera, no sharp objects.
There were no problems at all; this was just a normal Lenai Bear doll.
Ruan Yu was somehow relieved. She placed the bear on her bedside, then went to open the wardrobe, taking out the clothes Wen Yun had lent her one by one, examining them carefully, and feeling the fabric and stitching.
Wen Yun had brought her a total of five outfits: three sets of loungewear and two sets for going out. The colors varied but were all to her liking, looking fresh and vibrant. They were all cleaned with the tags removed, just like the nightgown she was wearing.
With her aesthetic sense and experience, she couldn’t find anything wrong with these clothes.
Gently closing the wardrobe, Ruan Yu sat on the bed, hugging the Lenai Bear tightly, and silently sighed.
She actually wanted to believe that the Wen Yun of this lifetime was truly being kind to her.
