After Transmigrating as the "Green Tea" Fake Heiress, I Got My Happy Ending with the Real Heiress - Chapter 45
Chapter 45
After adding the senior student chat group from C-City Financial University and saying goodbye to Wen Lu, Wen Yun and Ruan Yu continued their morning exercise as usual.
The tuxedo cat had been returned to the room next to the gym. As they entered the gym, Wen Yun deliberately closed the door tightly and led Ruan Yu to sit down on the stationary bikes.
“I’ve pretty much figured out our brother’s situation, and I’ll tell you my conclusions now,” she said. “You can safely assume that what he just said was a calculated act to win our trust.”
This first conclusion immediately stunned Ruan Yu.
She could feel that the emotions her brother showed toward Niuniu were genuine, which indicated he truly liked small animals and regretted having adopted a stray cat only to have his family dispose of it.
And yet, the person she trusted most was now telling her that it was all fake…
Noticing her confusion, Wen Yun quickly explained: “The act of gaining sympathy can package the truth with one’s inner thoughts, allowing an outsider to only understand the topic the person is talking about, rather than the details behind that person’s true intentions.”
If she hadn’t already read the chat logs between the siblings from the past few years, she might have actually been moved by Wen Lu’s words just now.
“…I think I understand a little,” Ruan Yu nodded slowly. “Any other conclusions?”
“He has no intention of escaping the Wen family with us,” Wen Yun continued. “On the contrary, he would only talk about funding our university education under the condition that he is absolutely certain of his succession to the Wen family inheritance.”
“As for why he is called a ‘sister-complex,’ I looked through the chat history. His attentive care for me before he went abroad is true, but the moment I showed an interest in working toward inheriting the Wen family, he began to intentionally distance himself. When asked, his reply was always that his studies were too busy and he had no time to check messages.”
She pulled out her phone and showed Ruan Yu the new screenshots of the chat history saved in her encrypted album. “I once watched a historical drama where an older sister pampered and indulged her younger sister only because she knew the sister was uneducated and posed no threat to her claim to the throne. The moment she discovered and confirmed her sister was going to compete with her, she immediately turned dark and became a mortal enemy.”
Watching the siblings’ chat history go from daily, instant replies to Wen Yun frequently sending messages but not receiving a reply from Wen Lu for days, Ruan Yu suddenly felt a chill.
“Then Brother’s funding…”
“We have to accept it,” Wen Yun said. “Since we’ve decided to leave the Wen family, we need to let Brother feel completely at ease. You just need to treat him like the ruthless capitalist our father is. If we accept his funding, he will feel secure, and won’t try to mess with our mindset or ruin our future due to various suspicions.”
Ruan Yu fell silent, murmuring after a long time, “So Brother would do that too?”
“I can only say, don’t hold too many illusions or expectations for anyone in this family,” Wen Yun said, feeling like she had included herself in the criticism. But then she thought about the unknown plot a year later and added, “Of course, I’m no exception. If you ever find that my personality changes drastically and I’m no longer the person I am now, please run away from me quickly, and don’t try to save me!”
As she finished speaking, she suddenly felt the girl’s gaze turn cold, cutting into her like a knife. Then, Ruan Yu stood up and gripped her wrists tightly.
“I hope that day never comes.”
The girl leaned closer, meeting her gaze. She spoke the words with immense resolve, almost gritting her teeth.
Wen Yun hadn’t expected such a strong reaction and subconsciously apologized: “Ah, I’m sorry! I really just meant it as a reminder, after all, who can truly predict the future…”
“Then that future is ours!” Ruan Yu cut her off without hesitation. “As long as we want to change it and work hard together, nothing is impossible!”
Wen Yun thought the sentiment was too idealistic, but then she recalled that these were the exact words of encouragement she had used with the protagonist. She had no choice but to begrudgingly agree: “That’s certainly true…”
Only then did Ruan Yu release her wrists. As she turned to exercise, she buried her turbulent emotions deep in her heart.
She had to admit that the words this person unintentionally spoke just now struck a chord with her.
If she were to talk about family, she and the Wen family shared the same blood and the same inherent flaws.
In that moment, she also wanted to tell the person beside her that if she ever found herself changed, Wen Yun should definitely run away and not try to pull her out of the mud or guide her forward as she was doing now.
The night after discussing the future with Wen Lu, Wen Yun and Ruan Yu received the cooperation agreement that Wen Lu had printed out.
“Under our country’s law, verbal agreements are not binding. I thought signing an agreement would also ensure your future is secure.”
The man pushed up his glasses and smiled as he scrutinized his two sisters’ expressions. “It’s fine to take your time, but read carefully before signing. Ask me if you don’t understand anything. You must also read every clause carefully when dealing with agreements from other people or companies in the future.”
Ruan Yu had never dealt with a contract before. After reading it patiently, she didn’t ask questions but looked toward the person beside her.
As expected, Wen Yun immediately pointed out several clauses that Ruan Yu hadn’t noticed were problematic.
“What about the funding duration limit? No limit won’t do.”
“Since we’re talking about money, let’s avoid ambiguous, vague language like ‘hope’ or ‘try to,’ shall we?”
“The law mandates supporting one’s parents after turning eighteen. You are our brother, not our father. You can’t arbitrarily take on our legal obligation.”
The siblings negotiated the contract terms back and forth, with Ruan Yu trying her best to keep up with their thought process.
Two hours later, Wen Yun finally signed “Wen Yun” on the two copies of the agreement and told Ruan Yu where she needed to sign.
“It’s only been a year since I saw you last. How did you learn all this, Yunyun?” Wen Lu took back the agreements, examining Wen Yun with genuine interest.
“I’ll be an adult soon. It’s not too much to learn about these things before entering society, is it?” Wen Yun countered.
“True. We’re both used to previewing advanced coursework anyway.” Wen Lu smiled, seemingly accepting the explanation. “Oh, by the way, the news I heard recently wasn’t just about your true and fake daughter identities.”
Remembering his mention of “false rumors” on WeChat, Wen Yun frowned. “Some wealthy kids have been acting out lately. What other rumors have you heard, Brother?”
“There’s a rumor that my good sister’s grades dropped significantly because of a forbidden romance.”
As Wen Lu spoke, Ruan Yu’s expression changed dramatically. Then, she heard the person beside her let out a sound of disbelief: “Which idiot who reads too many melodramatic rich-family novels started that rumor?”
“I don’t know, but the forbidden romance that person referred to is only relative to the mainstream situation,” Wen Lu pushed up his glasses. “But for your situation, it’s nothing forbidden at all.”
“So, what exactly is the ‘forbidden romance’?” Ruan Yu couldn’t help but ask.
“The true and fake daughters falling in love,” Wen Lu said unhurriedly. “Normally, the true and fake daughters would be on the same household registration, so wouldn’t that count as a forbidden relationship?”
Wen Yun, unexpectedly becoming the center of the gossip, was momentarily dumbfounded.
“That’s not true!” she immediately and sternly refuted. “We have a good relationship, so we’re in love? What kind of nonsense is that! Homosexuality being legal is one thing, but how can people blindly push us together? Can’t same-sex people have a normal friendship?!”
“That’s what I thought, too, which is why I decided to come back and see if it was true with my own eyes,” Wen Lu said casually. “Though I would hope it is true. Two good girls keeping it in the family is quite nice, isn’t it? Keeping the fortune from flowing to outsiders?”
“Brother, that’s enough!!” Wen Yun roared in a suppressed voice, itching to strangle him.
“Alright, alright. I’ve said too much. I won’t disturb your studying and rest anymore,” Wen Lu wisely backed away, opened the door, and said, “Good~night.”
After he left, the room remained silent for a long time.
“Is what Brother said true?” Ruan Yu finally asked. “Can same-sex people be in a relationship?”
“That much is true. Homosexual people can even register their marriage domestically, and more and more people are beginning to recognize these unions. The downside is the lack of biological offspring, but that’s a minor issue. If you really want an heir, you can always adopt an orphan,” Wen Yun nodded. “But you absolutely must not be led astray by his words! You haven’t experienced love yet, so don’t easily elevate anyone’s goodwill toward you into love!”
She paused, softening her tone: “It won’t be too late to think about romance when you’ve met more people, experienced more things, and found someone who genuinely makes your heart flutter and will take good care of you!”
Ruan Yu didn’t immediately agree. She seemed to be processing Wen Yun’s words for a long time before she finally nodded obediently, “I’ll remember that.”
However, as soon as she returned to her room, she opened her chat window with He Sheng: “Do you have any novels or dramas related to same-sex romance?”
The reply she received was a string of exclamation marks.
Ruan Yu quickly explained: “I don’t mean anything by it. I just encountered the term suddenly and want to learn more about this community. I remember the anime you like has works featuring this group. Didn’t you send me pictures of a ‘gorgeous couple’ once?”
“Oh, those were fan arts of Madoka and Homura. But honestly, I don’t quite believe you ‘don’t mean anything by it’~” He Sheng teased, but quickly sent over links to relevant works. “Just a reminder, shipping is one thing, but some couples are only shippable and aren’t officially canon. Don’t spam that everywhere!”
With finals approaching, Ruan Yu had to consolidate her own grades while tutoring Wen Yun. She didn’t have time to binge-read all the works and, afraid of being discovered by Wen Yun, only dared to put on her headphones and watch a little before going to sleep.
She thought that by learning more about this community, she could face her desire to keep Wen Yun by her side more objectively and calmly. But the more she watched, the more she realized how incredibly slow she had been. If it hadn’t been for her brother’s reminder, she might have cohabited with Wen Yun for a few more years without ever thinking about love.
Moreover, her affection and shyness toward that person were already more than just platonic.
In late January, during the most stressful days before the final exams, Ruan Yu had a strange dream.
In the dream, she and that person were already in college, living in the same dorm room.
She had a fever that day for some unknown reason, trembling under the blankets, and weakly called out to that person.
The dorm room had loft beds with desks underneath. That person quickly answered and climbed up, bringing a cool towel which she placed on Ruan Yu’s forehead, gently wiping her face, just as Ruan Yu had done for her to bring her fever down that day.
Ruan Yu didn’t remember what she said, only feeling that she was crying as she spoke.
Then, through her blurred vision, the most familiar face moved closer. Something cold and soft pressed against her cheek, then her lips, and slowly moved further down.
The comforting coolness continued to touch her.
