After Transmigrating as the "Green Tea" Fake Heiress, I Got My Happy Ending with the Real Heiress - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
As Wen Yun had expected, let alone bringing the cat home, even carrying the cat into the car was met with strong protest from the butler.
After she got into the car, carrying both school bags, she felt a very subtle atmosphere inside.
Ruan Yu was petting the cat with her head bowed. The tuxedo cat lay on her lap, its fur bristled, occasionally letting out a warning growl toward the passenger seat.
Wen Yun had never owned a cat herself, but she had watched many cat videos, and a colleague in her past life had a cat. Seeing the situation, she quickly said to Ruan Yu, “Let’s take the cat to the shelter first. Stray cats need to be checked up and dewormed before they can be kept at home. Don’t rush.”
Seeing Ruan Yu’s skeptical expression, she instructed the driver to head to the shelter and searched for videos on adopting stray cats for Ruan Yu to watch.
Afraid of startling the cat, she specifically gave Ruan Yu headphones before playing the videos.
This was probably a limitation of growing up in the countryside and not encountering “cat slaves” in the city. Wen Yun had a similar experience when she was little; if she saw a friendly cat or dog in the village and confirmed it was a stray, she would indeed take it straight home, perhaps only taking it for a rabies vaccine and deworming.
She could tell Ruan Yu really liked this cat. If the Wen family didn’t allow pets, she planned to board the cat at the shelter for now. Once they both went to college, they could rent a cat-friendly apartment and take the cat in then.
The Wen parents were not coming home for dinner today, so the car drove directly to the nearest stray cat and dog shelter. Wen Yun, holding her phone, walked ahead to the front desk to fill out forms and pay the fees.
Ruan Yu followed closely behind her, clutching the cat, too stunned by the number of animals in the shelter to speak.
Wen Yun wasn’t sure about the essential check-up procedures for cats, so she simply opted for the full package. Afterward, she and Ruan Yu followed the staff through various rooms.
Perhaps because it was used to seeing people on campus, the cat was very well-behaved and cooperative. It only struggled and grumbled a few times when its blood was drawn, but the vet quickly soothed it. It ate the cat treats Wen Yun specifically bought and completed the entire examination bit by bit.
The test results would take at least an hour to be ready. While waiting, Ruan Yu said she wanted to stay with the cat. Wen Yun and the butler went to a nearby convenience store to grab some Oden (Japanese hot pot) to eat, taking the opportunity to ask the butler if keeping a cat at home was allowed.
The butler replied, “If you truly wish to keep a cat at home, you can choose one from a reputable cattery during the National Day holiday.”
Wen Yun frowned and spoke with a green tea tone: “Aunt Ge, I don’t mean anything by it, but I simply want to know when our family started having rules about breed discrimination?”
“It’s not breed discrimination. It’s that stray cats are unhygienic and carry a large number of viruses and bacteria,” the butler said sternly. “Furthermore, stray cats are quite feral and difficult to manage. Even if the health check-up is fine, I won’t allow the two young ladies to bring it home!”
Wen Yun was speechless. This person claimed it wasn’t breed discrimination, yet her words were full of disdain for stray cats, and she was so self-righteous about it!
Just as she was about to argue with the butler, a lazy female voice came from behind her: “What a coincidence, deskmate.”
Wen Yun turned her head and saw He Sheng walking over, holding a cup of Oden, and sitting down next to them without hesitation.
“Did you come to adopt a pet too?” He Sheng asked, gesturing with her eyes toward the shelter outside the convenience store.
“Not exactly,” Wen Yun shook her head. “I rescued a stray cat after the exam today. We just finished its check-up, and I’m not sure what to do next.”
“Is your family not allowing it?” He Sheng popped a fish ball into her mouth. Seeing that neither Wen Yun nor the butler spoke, she mumbled, “That’s odd. The wealthy Wen family has such a big house; they won’t even allow a small cat?”
The butler quickly clarified: “Miss He, it’s not what you think—”
“Then I’ll adopt it,” He Sheng interrupted. “I was just thinking of choosing a kitten to take home. My house is huge. It would still feel empty even with ten cat trees.”
The butler’s face immediately changed. Wen Yun vaguely understood He Sheng’s intention.
He Sheng cared deeply about “aura.” Normally, she wouldn’t ask to take a cat home without even seeing it or knowing its personality.
She was likely trying to deliberately annoy the butler, forcing her to agree to let them take the cat home due to pressure from the Wen family’s reputation and other wealthy social circles.
So, Wen Yun didn’t reply, eating her Oden and waiting for the butler to speak.
After a long ten-second silence, the butler finally said, “I need to contact the master and madam about this. Please excuse me.”
Watching the butler leave the convenience store, Wen Yun lightly clicked her tongue.
She must have been dizzy from running around the shelter. She should have asked the Wen parents directly instead of the butler. How could an employee make decisions for the owners?
It was fortunate that He Sheng intervened. Otherwise, she would have wasted time arguing with the butler.
Thinking this, she quickly thanked He Sheng.
“Don’t mention it. Helping a deskmate is what I should do,” He Sheng waved her hand. “But if it’s a stray cat, I suggest keeping it at the shelter for a few days for deworming and bathing before taking it home.”
“Thanks for the reminder!” Wen Yun said awkwardly. “Xiao Yu and I have never owned a cat, so we don’t have much experience in this area.”
“Ah, everyone starts somewhere,” He Sheng didn’t think much of it. “But if your family is really unwelcoming, keep the cat at my place for now. If it has a severe stress reaction, it could be fatal.”
Wen Yun had heard this as well and nodded, but still asked anxiously, “You haven’t seen our cat, have you? What if its aura doesn’t match yours…”
“The aura I care about is directed at humans,” He Sheng said. “Who doesn’t like cats?”
Wen Yun: “…”
So, that was her logic.
The butler hadn’t returned. Wen Yun bought some food for Ruan Yu and carried it along with the warm Oden.
He Sheng glanced at her hands and teased, “Is this ‘trading a genuine heart for a genuine heart’ again?”
“More or less,” Wen Yun smiled. “Xiao Yu really has helped me a lot.”
If the protagonist hadn’t been tutoring her in math every day, she wouldn’t have improved so quickly.
He Sheng smiled too, bending down to toss her paper cup and skewers into the trash can. She lifted her chin toward the door. “Let’s go. The sooner it’s sorted, the sooner we can go home.”
As the two walked out, Wen Yun noticed the butler was still on the phone and didn’t interrupt, heading straight for the shelter.
The tuxedo cat had been placed in an isolation room, and Ruan Yu was talking to a staff member.
Catching a glimpse of people approaching in her peripheral vision, she instinctively turned her head and was surprised to see He Sheng.
“I came to visit a kitten,” He Sheng greeted her proactively, then asked the staff member with a smile, “How is Liu Hua doing?”
“She’s almost fully recovered,” the staff member, who seemed familiar with her, also smiled. “If all goes well, she should be discharged during the National Day holiday.”
“Liu Hua is…?” Ruan Yu asked.
“A stray cat I rescued half a month ago. She’s a tortoiseshell,” He Sheng explained. “You might have seen her around the school, too. She often hung around outside the cafeteria.”
She asked the staff member to take them to see the tortoiseshell cat.
The tri-colored tortoiseshell cat was curled up in the cage. As soon as she saw He Sheng, she reached out her black and white paws to scratch the door. Feeling she couldn’t reach He Sheng, she lay flat in the cage and started rolling around.
“She injured a hind leg in a fight back then, and lost a lot of fur from being bitten,” He Sheng pointed into the cage. “If she hadn’t been looked after in the heat two weeks ago, her wound would definitely have festered.”
After speaking, she reached out to tease the tortoiseshell cat, asking, “How about your cat? What’s its situation?”
Ruan Yu, eating her Oden, briefly recounted the process of rescuing the cat that afternoon.
He Sheng laughed after hearing the story. “Nice one. Truly the ‘Husky of the cat world,’ daring to climb up to a high place like the breeding facility.”
The topic of cats unknowingly brought the three of them closer.
When all the tuxedo cat’s health reports came back, showing no contagious diseases like feline distemper, but indicating a need for a period of deworming, Wen Yun paid another boarding fee. After asking the staff how to disinfect the clothes and skin that had come into contact with the stray cat, she and Ruan Yu bid farewell to He Sheng.
He Sheng escorted them all the way to the car, waved, and just before the window completely rolled up, she deliberately raised her voice and shouted, “If your family won’t let you keep a cat, don’t worry, just give it to me!”
After the car drove off, Wen Yun asked the butler again, “Did Mom agree to keep a cat?”
“The madam has no objection, but hygiene must be guaranteed,” the butler’s voice sounded somewhat tired. “Ringworm and parasites can be transmitted to humans.”
“That’s no problem. We’ll leave the cat boarded at the shelter for observation first,” Wen Yun said. “We’ll bring it home only after it’s confirmed fully healed.”
The butler acknowledged this. After a long silence, she couldn’t help but advise, “The two young ladies should take a bath and change clothes immediately after returning home, especially Miss Xiao Yu!”
At ten in the evening, Wen Yun habitually brought her math test papers to Ruan Yu.
Ruan Yu had already bathed and changed into a white nightgown. She was sitting at her desk with Chemistry proficiency exam review materials laid out, but she was rapidly tapping on her phone screen.
Wen Yun sat on the stool Ruan Yu had prepared for her, placed the corrected test paper by her hand, and curiously watched her actions.
Typing so fast, who was she chatting with?
Ruan Yu didn’t make her wait long. She quickly put down her phone, picked up the paper, and started looking at the mistakes.
“I’ve added He Sheng as a friend,” she suddenly said after a moment.
Wen Yun suddenly realized, “So you were chatting with her about keeping the cat just now?”
Ruan Yu hummed in affirmation, but then troubled, said, “I didn’t realize there were so many things to consider when raising a cat! If we bring the cat back later, what will happen to it when we’re both at school during the day?”
“That’s fine. Many people with long work hours also keep cats,” Wen Yun comforted her. “You can ask He Sheng more. Let’s first thoroughly understand the theory. We can even purchase things like a litter box, automatic feeder, pet water fountain, and cat toys in advance. When we bring the cat home, we’ll have a good idea of what to do.”
Ruan Yu blinked. “I thought you’d say we could ask Aunt Ge to help look after the cat during the day.”
“Aunt Ge doesn’t like stray cats at all. How could I trust her to take care of it?” Wen Yun got angry just thinking about what the butler had said earlier. “You don’t know! When I asked her if we could keep a cat at home, she actually told me to go pick one out at a cattery!”
“A cattery?”
“Yes, a cattery is basically a place that breeds pedigree cats. They have high standards for bloodlines,” Wen Yun explained. “Cats like Siamese, Munchkins, and Ragdolls, which look beautiful and adorable, are all pedigree cats. Most of the cats you see in the countryside and on the streets are called ‘domestic shorthairs’.”
Ruan Yu thought for a moment, shook her head, and softly said, “If Aunt Ge really said that, then it probably… is what Mom and Dad meant.”
