After Transmigrating As The Female Lead Of A Cruel Novel, I Raised a Big Shot Cat - Chapter 13.1
Little Moon: [When are you coming back today?]
Bo Shuhan didn’t reply. She was currently listening to a proposal presentation from another company.
Although each person was limited to ten minutes, there were simply too many of them.
She was busy until 11:00 PM.
Seeing that there were still over a dozen people left to present, Bo Shuhan moved them to the next day. She instructed her assistant to give each person a 200 yuan “red envelope” as compensation. Then, she opened her phone and saw that Ji Qingyue’s account had gained 100,000 followers over the afternoon. She felt quite satisfied.
An influencer isn’t built in a day.
Exiting TikTok, Bo Shuhan opened WeChat and saw Ji Qingyue’s message from around 8:00.
She originally intended to reply, but since it was nearly midnight, she decided to put it off.
She would reply tomorrow morning. It wouldn’t be good to wake Ji Qingyue up with a notification now.
After working a bit longer and privately sending red envelopes to the subordinates who stayed late, Bo Shuhan finally took a car home.
The night was dim. Even in Shanghai during November, pedestrians and cars on the road were sparse. Since this wasn’t the city center, the traffic was even lighter.
Aside from the sprawling neon lights, the world seemed to have suddenly gone quiet.
As usual, the bodyguards dropped the car off downstairs and left. The moment Bo Shuhan stepped out of the vehicle, she felt a chill.
She walked quickly toward the building. Entering the elevator and watching the floor numbers climb, she finally found a moment of leisure.
Opening TikTok again, the “Big Boss’s” gruff voice immediately filled the elevator.
Reading the netizens’ comments, Bo Shuhan couldn’t help but agree, the cat really did curse quite filthily.
Ding.
The 27th floor arrived. Bo Shuhan turned off her phone and walked toward her door.
After a few steps, she heard snoring.
It was strange, it sounded like the Big Boss’s snoring.
Did he make Ji Qingyue angry and get kicked out?
Bo Shuhan lengthened her stride, preparing to mock the cat. She hadn’t forgotten the humiliation of the “social death” incident from earlier.
The distance from the elevator to the hallway wasn’t far, and since she sped up, she saw the Big Boss within three steps.
The cat was currently curled up on Ji Qingyue’s lap, sleeping soundly. Ji Qingyue seemed to have fallen asleep from exhaustion as well, she was sitting on a stool, her head resting against her own door.
She was wearing a thick black puffer jacket, and several plastic bottles were peeking out from her arms. She seemed to be in a very deep sleep. Her gentle breathing mingled with the Big Boss’s thunderous snoring, it wasn’t exactly a beautiful sound, but it was strangely comforting.
“Ji… Yue, wake up. Why are you sleeping out here? Did you forget your keys, or is your lock broken too?”
Bo Shuhan drifted down in front of Ji Qingyue, calling her softly.
Ji Qingyue wasn’t sleeping very deeply. She rubbed her eyes, and the plastic bottles in her arms clattered and rolled across the floor.
They were just ordinary mineral water bottles, but the liquid inside didn’t look like water.
Startled by the sound of the bottles hitting the ground, Ji Qingyue instinctively tried to stand up to pick them up, but Bo Shuhan held her down.
“A-Yue, you’re still groggy. There’s a cat on your lap. Be careful, or you’ll wake him up and he’ll start a fuss with you.”
Only then did Ji Qingyue remember. She had wanted to leave the Big Boss inside the house, but when he saw she wasn’t coming in, he refused to enter. If she forced him in, he would howl.
And it was a terrible sound.
Rubbing her aching brow, she saw the Big Boss was sleeping as soundly as a pig. Bo Shuhan picked up the plastic bottles and asked curiously, “What are these? You were guarding them in your arms like treasures.”
Looking at the dirty-looking bottles, Ji Qingyue truly didn’t have the face to admit she had made soup.
When Bo Shuhan hadn’t replied at 8:00, Ji Qingyue waited a while longer. By 9:30, there was still no movement from next door.
Ji Qingyue figured Bo Shuhan might be at a banquet. Since Bo Shuhan had taken care of her yesterday, Ji Qingyue brewed some hangover soup, thinking she could have some when she returned.
When another hour passed with no sign of her, Ji Qingyue guessed it wasn’t a party but rather overtime at the office.
While there were restaurants nearby for takeout, she considered that Bo Shuhan might be a picky eater, so she cooked some plain white porridge.
Feeling that porridge was too simple, she boiled some pork rib soup as well. By 11:00, still no one was home. Ji Qingyue opened the window to see if Bo Shuhan’s car was there, only to be struck by the freezing wind.
Thinking that Bo Shuhan’s clothes from today weren’t very warm, she brewed some ginger tea. However, she lived alone and didn’t have many pots or insulated lunch boxes.
She had to pour the hangover soup into mineral water bottles. Naturally, the ginger tea and brown sugar water suffered the same fate.
By the time she finished, it was midnight. Afraid she would fall asleep inside and miss Bo Shuhan, she simply moved a chair outside. Wearing her puffer jacket, she tucked the bottles of brown sugar water, ginger tea, and hangover soup into her lap for warmth, of course.
She hadn’t expected to actually fall asleep on the stool.
“It’s nothing. I was just cold sitting outside, so I put some hot water in them to use as hand warmers.”
“Hand warmers?” Bo Shuhan looked at the red dates floating in the brown sugar water, unscrewed the cap, and took a sip.
“The brown sugar water tastes good.”
Seeing the “shabby” water bottles, Ji Qingyue really didn’t want her to drink the other two. She reached out to grab them, but Bo Shuhan stood up and stepped back.
Wary of the Big Boss on her lap, Ji Qingyue couldn’t move too abruptly and failed to retrieve them. She could only watch as Bo Shuhan opened the other two bottles and took a few sips.
“Hangover soup and ginger tea?”
Ji Qingyue nodded sheepishly. “I saw you hadn’t come back for so long, and I thought you might need them. But I didn’t have any thermoses or insulated containers, so I used these.”
It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about buying some, but the convenience store downstairs was already closed. QAQ
Looking at Ji Qingyue’s face, which was flushed red with embarrassment, Bo Shuhan shook the three bottles and said, “The taste is excellent, and they’re still warm. They really saved me. It’s too cold today, this ginger tea and brown sugar water are lifesavers.”
Ji Qingyue blinked, looking at the short-haired woman under the hallway light who usually looked so unapproachable. She suddenly smiled. “I also made white porridge and pork rib soup. Would you like some?”
Bo Shuhan: “I would be delighted.”
With that, Bo Shuhan’s long arm reached out and “peeled” the Big Boss off Ji Qingyue’s lap.
The cat, half-asleep, instinctively let out a curse, but unable to resist the drowsiness, he found a comfortable spot in Bo Shuhan’s arms and fell back asleep.
Ignoring him, Bo Shuhan reached out toward Ji Qingyue. “This little fat pig has been lying on you for so long. Are your legs numb? Can you stand?”
Ji Qingyue shook her head; the Big Boss wasn’t that heavy. As they walked into the living room, Bo Shuhan couldn’t help but shiver.
Ji Qingyue, walking ahead, didn’t notice. she hurried to the kitchen, saw the porridge and soup had cooled, and turned on the stove to reheat them.
Bo Shuhan hugged the cat in her arms tightly and looked around. The house was much cleaner than last night.
The beer cans on the coffee table were gone, replaced by over a dozen design drafts laid out densely. Bo Shuhan sat on the sofa, feeling the cold even more.
Noticing the central air conditioning wasn’t on and looking at the unsigned design drafts, she lowered her eyes and sat quietly, absentmindedly stroking the fur on the cat’s back.
But her touch was clumsy, and the Big Boss woke up.
Seeing Bo Shuhan holding him, the cat lifted its dark head, its emerald eyes filled with disdain.
[Do you even know how to hold a cat? If not, put me down.]
Bo Shuhan lowered her voice. “Yue, are you out of money?”
The cat was stunned. [I don’t know.]
“Stupid cat,” Bo Shuhan muttered. Just as she was about to ask more, Ji Qingyue walked over with the hot porridge and soup.
“Don’t be picky. There wasn’t much food left at home tonight, so I only made these two things.”
Bo Shuhan shook her head. “To come back at this hour and have hot food is already wonderful.”
She took a sip of the pork rib soup. One taste confirmed it was meticulously prepared, the broth was crystal clear, garnished with green scallions, rich in flavor but not greasy.
“This soup is delicious,” Bo Shuhan remarked. Then she looked at Ji Qingyue and asked, “You won’t be going out much for the next month, right?”
Ji Qingyue shook her head. She hadn’t become famous yet, and though she had no news of Ye Sishen, he remained a sharp blade hanging over her head. Until that threat was removed, she didn’t plan on leaving.
Bo Shuhan nodded, her lips curling into a very stiff smile that startled Ji Qingyue.
But Bo Shuhan seemed unaware of it and asked seriously, “Can I hire you to be my chef for the next two years?”
Ji Qingyue: “???”
Bo Shuhan explained, “My main family is overseas. I came back this time to move the family base back to the country. So for the next two years, I should be here and won’t be leaving.”
“Because of the relocation, I’ll be coming home very late every night. Before, I just ate instant noodles to fight off hunger, but now your porridge and soup have made my palate picky. I don’t want to come home to instant noodles anymore.”
“So, can I hire you as my chef? You just need to prepare a porridge and a soup every night. I just want to be able to eat something hot when I get home.”
Bo Shuhan spoke with such sincerity that Ji Qingyue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “You don’t need to go to such trouble. If you want to come over for dinner, you’re always welcome. You don’t need to….” spend money.
Before she could finish, Bo Shuhan interrupted, “If that’s the case, I’d rather go home and eat instant noodles. Mushroom chicken, seafood, braised beef, spiced… I’m sick of them, but they’re convenient.”
Ji Qingyue couldn’t win the argument and finally agreed, but a monthly salary of 4,000 yuan was the limit she could accept.
Bo Shuhan didn’t push it further.
She paid a full year’s salary in one go. Even if Ji Qingyue were a fool, she could see what was happening.
“Thank you.”
Under the light, Bo Shuhan’s deep green eyes reflected a warm glow. She shook the three mineral water bottles in her hand, her voice lazy. “Friendship is priceless.”
Big Boss: [??? At a perfect moment like this, you talk about friendship instead of love?!]
