- Chapter 92 - The Great Chase and the "Stolen" Master
The creature that snatched Zhu Xingtong wasn’t a human, but a Monkey KingΒ of the forest. While monkeys weren’t the top predators in this realm, they were agile and knew the terrain better than anyone. This Monkey King had two thousand years of cultivationβless than the giant eagle, but he was cunning.
He had realized instantly that the chubby bird was extraordinary. Eating her might skyrocket his cultivation. But as he fled, he realized with a jolt that the person standing on the girl’s shoulder earlier was none other than the legendary “Big Brother Eagle.”
The eagle had signed a contract with a human?! This news unsettled the Monkey King, but he couldn’t bring himself to just hand the bird back. He didn’t want to be a human’s pet.
Wait! I can’t keep her, but I can give her to THAT person!Β Deep in the forest, there was a being even more terrifying than the eagle. With a gleeful hoot, the Monkey King sprinted toward the center of the realm.
The Tianqing Secret Realm was originally the grotto of an ascender. When he left, he could only take so many spirit beasts, leaving others behindβlike the Flying Lion.
Thousands of years ago, the Flying Lion was too young to follow its master to the upper realms. Having been blessed by an ascender, it practiced faster than any other beast and eventually became the King of the Forest. Everything had been peaceful until the Divine Fire broke the concealment array, bringing the invasion of human cultivators.
While other beasts saw this as a disaster, the Flying Lionβhaving once been a contracted petβsaw it as an opportunity. Beast cultivation was a slow, uphill battle against the heavens. A powerful human master was the key to reaching the upper realms.
The Flying Lion hid in the shadows, letting out a terrifying roar: Human cultivators, come to me!Β It wanted to pick the perfect master. And look! Two high-quality candidates were already approaching!
But as the Flying Lion watched from the thicket, it realized something was wrong. Are they… arguing?
“Beimeng! I knew you’d show up!” The woman in black and red robes, her hair pulled back in a high ponytail, spoke with a sharp, provocative tone.
Immortal Venerable Beimeng sighed at the sight of her. “Chilian, how much longer are you going to harass me?”
Demon Venerable Chilian licked her lips, a wicked glint in her eyes. “I’ll stop when you’re dead. Are you willing to die?”
Beimeng frowned. “Only if you have the strength to kill me.”
“The fight in the Eternal Realm wasn’t finished. I’ve had a few months to get used to this new body; I think I’m ready for a rematch.” Chilian cracked her knuckles.
Beimeng stepped back. “I brought my disciples today. I won’t fight you. Move.”
“You want the Flying Lion? Forget it!”
“Chilian!”
“Stop shouting!” Chilian picked her ear. “Fine, don’t fight. But give the Flying Lion to me, and I’ll promise not to kill your little disciples.”
Beimengβs eyes narrowed. She knew Chilian. If this woman said she would kill the disciples, she would do it. Even in their weakened, reborn states, they were still former deities; killing ordinary disciples was as easy as crushing ants.
“Chilian, stop obsessing over disciples,” Chilian said mockingly. “Why aren’t you focusing on your cultivation? You haven’t even gone into seclusion once! Don’t you want to ascend? If you don’t catch up, I’ll be able to slap you to death in no time.”
“Talk to me when you actually canΒ slap me to death,” Beimeng replied coolly. “What does my cultivation have to do with you? We’ve died once; we should let the past go. Our grudge has lasted years; itβs time to end it.”
Chilian froze. “End it? Based on what?! You don’t just get to decide when it’s over!”
Beimeng turned to leave. “If you want the Flying Lion, take it. From now on, our paths diverge. Please stop sending challenge letters to the Changtian Sect.”
Chilian: ??? Did she hit her head?! My rival is telling me to let it go?
Chilian lunged forward and grabbed Beimengβs arm. “Hey! You don’t get to just quit! We’ve been fighting for centuries! What’s wrong with you?!”
“Let go,” Beimeng said.
“No! Explain yourself!” In Chilianβs mind, Beimeng was always straightforward. This sudden coldness was baffling.
Beimeng looked at her deeply. “Our grudge began over a misunderstanding in this world. Back then, you were angry that our Junior Sister was fond of me, but I never married her. We’ve spent our lives bickering over childhood pride. We are former Ascenders; stop being so childish.”
Chilian stood there, stunned, her hand slowly sliding off Beimengβs arm. She didn’t understand why her heart felt so heavy. As Beimeng walked away, Chilian shouted, “Who made you so upset? Why are you taking it out on me?!”
Beimeng paused and looked back. “Farewell. In this life, I will not ascend, and I will not walk the same path as you. On your journey back to the top, please take care of yourself.”
Chilian: ???
“By the way…” Beimeng added, “Junior Sister is now the Mountain Lord of Xuanling. If you still care for her, go visit her. I wish you success in your… romantic endeavors.”
Chilian: ????
Chilian finally realized: It’s not me. It’s her. Beimeng has officially lost her mind.
She sneered back, “You want me to visit your precious Junior Sister? She was always head-over-heels for you! I bet if you two meet again, the flames of love will burn brighter than the divine fire outside this realm!”
Beimeng sighed. “You fought me for years to ‘pursue’ her, yet you say this now? Fine. Iβm leaving. My disciples are waiting.”
“Stand still!” Chilian yelled.
But Beimeng didn’t look back. Chilian moved to chase her, but a blue blur suddenly streaked past them. Chilian dodged, lost her balance, and wobbled backward.
Beimeng turned instantly, catching her by the arm to steady her.
Chilian: …Β (Looking away, blushing with rage) “I thought you were leaving!”
Beimeng ignored her, her eyes fixed on the blue shadow. “That monkey… is that bird in its hand your disciple’s pet?”
The tiny tuft of rainbow feathers was hard to miss. Chilian turned, and her eyes went wide. It was the chubby bird!
“CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP!!” HELP ME!!
Zhu Xingtongβs feathers were a mess in the wind, her beady eyes filled with helplessness.
“Hey! You monkey! Leave my disciple’s bird alone!” Chilian rolled up her sleeves and sprinted after it in a fury.
Beimeng stood there, dazed. She hadn’t seen Chilian this animatedβoutside of their fightsβin a long time. That disciple… Zhong Lanqing. They’ve only been together a month. Why does Chilian care so much about her pet?
“Beimeng, what are you staring at?! That bird is a hybrid phoenix! Her bloodline is top-tier; she’s my disciple’s treasure! Help me catch her!”
Beimeng: ?
A hybrid phoenix? But Zhong Lanqing said… she dyed those feathers herself?
Meanwhile, Zhong Ying was soaring through the air on the back of the giant eagle. Her heart was in her throat. Her “wife” was in the hands of a monkey, and she knew the phoenix had zero combat skills.
“Eagle, faster!”
“Don’t worry, Master. That monkey is weaker than me. It’s only a matter of time.”
The Flying Lion in the bushes: Ooh.
The quality of human cultivators this year is excellent. Three high-tier candidates are heading my way. And one of them already tamed the Eagle!
The Lion fell into a deep dilemma: With so many good choices, which one should I pick to be my master?
