After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy! - Chapter 81
“Matching rings? A proposal??”
Before Shen Xianming could say anything, Chen Xu couldn’t hold back his shock. He blurted out, “Cheng Yi proposed to you? So soon? When did this happen?”
“How would Senior Chen Xu know that Cheng Yi proposed to me? We’ve been keeping a low profile — only our close friends and family know about it,” Shen Ran said, shaking his head and swaying slightly. As he spoke, he stretched out his hand so Shen Xianming could take a closer look at the ring on his finger.
“Little Cheng really proposed to you?” Shen Xianming still sounded a bit skeptical. “When did this happen?”
“Aiya, it was after we went home last time~ I didn’t tell you because we’ve been busy being in love and I forgot~ Right, Cheng Yi?”
A flicker of amusement passed through Cheng Yi’s eyes, and he simply followed along with Shen Ran’s playful explanation: “Yes. These are matching rings. Uncle, Auntie, please take a look — I have the other one right here.”
Shen Xianming and Fu Sijie both glanced over and saw that Cheng Yi was indeed wearing a ring of the same design on the ring finger of his left hand.
“I had these rings custom-designed by Qi Youqing, a very famous designer based in K City. Uncle, you must have heard of his studio?”
Upon hearing this, Shen Xianming frowned slightly and nodded.
Everyone present knew about Master Qi — the designer who had moved to K City a few years ago.
His wedding rings were extremely renowned: the wait times were long, the prices sky-high, and he only accepted a handful of commissions each year — they were famously difficult to obtain.
In other words, Cheng Yi’s proposal couldn’t have been a spur-of-the-moment decision; it must have been planned well in advance.
A thoughtful look flickered through Shen Xianming’s eyes.
Chen Xu’s earlier, confident claims suddenly seemed much less convincing.
“Dad, since everything’s already out in the open, I won’t hide it anymore. I’ll just be honest!”
After withdrawing his hand, Shen Ran seemed to have made some sort of firm decision. He bowed to his parents, wearing a face full of guilt and remorse.
“Actually, Cheng Yi and I didn’t just get together recently. We’ve been together for over a year! Cheng Yi only proposed now because he felt the time was finally right! I’m sorry for keeping it from you for so long!”
“Ranran, what nonsense are you talking about?” Chen Xu exclaimed, stunned. “How could you and Cheng Yi have been together for over a year? Just a little while ago, you and I were clearly a couple!”
Although there were only five people in the president’s office, it had already descended into chaos.
Shen Ran and Chen Xu each insisted on their own version of events, arguing fiercely, giving Shen Xianming and Fu Sijie a splitting headache.
Only Cheng Yi remained calm, even lowering his head to fiddle idly with his tie.
Today’s tie was a gift from Shen Ran the week before — a burgundy tie embroidered with silver thread.
It looked beautiful.
Finally, Shen Xianming could no longer endure the noisy bickering. He lowered his voice with authority: “Both of you, quiet down!”
Chen Xu and Shen Ran immediately fell silent.
“…Whatever you have to say, speak one at a time.”
“Uncle!” This time, Chen Xu quickly seized the opportunity to speak first, urgently, “Shen Ran started dating me three months ago — at least at that time, he wasn’t with Cheng Yi! Otherwise, wouldn’t that mean I’ve been… betrayed?”
After Chen Xu finished speaking, Shen Xianming turned to Shen Ran, his expression as serious as a judge, waiting for Shen Ran’s rebuttal.
Shen Ran, completely unbothered, raised a finger and waved it side to side:
“Nonono, Dad, Senior Chen Xu is just talking nonsense! Senior, if you say we were dating, do you have any proof? An official announcement, chat records, or maybe even matching rings?”
Chen Xu choked, momentarily unable to respond: “I…”
He had only ever verbally told Shen Ran they were dating — there were no chat logs to prove it.
And after Shen Ran broke up with him, he’d discovered that he’d been deleted from Shen Ran’s contacts. In a fit of anger, he deleted Shen Ran too.
Now, he couldn’t even produce evidence of their breakup.
As for a public relationship announcement on social media? He had posted something at the time — but it was set to be visible only to Shen Ran.
If he showed his phone now, his lie would be exposed!
And matching rings… He had never been willing to spend that kind of money on Shen Ran, so of course there were none.
Seeing Chen Xu’s silence, Shen Ran became even more animated. He grabbed Shen Xianming’s arm and shook it insistently:
“See, see, see! Dad, I’m telling the truth! I really had nothing going on with Senior Chen Xu! It was all one-sided on his part — he was imagining things!”
“Ranran, you…” Chen Xu, unable to contain his anger, said, “What about you and Cheng Yi? You claim you’ve been together for over a year — can you show any proof?”
Chen Xu was confident. He thought there was no way Shen Ran could produce evidence.
After all, he knew perfectly well that over a year ago, Shen Ran and Cheng Yi had been at each other’s throats — they had never been together, so how could there possibly be proof?
However, Shen Ran only gave him a sly smile.
For some reason, Chen Xu felt his heart sink.
…This is bad.
“Dad, you know that Cheng Yi started a small company, but do you know where his office is located?” Shen Ran asked, almost playfully.
“Where?” Shen Xianming demanded in a low voice.
Shen Ran suddenly looked a little shy. “Aiya, it’s right next to my art gallery! And Cheng Yi and I are living together now. He moved into the same apartment building. Every day, we go to work together, come home together, eat together, and sleep together…”
Once he started talking about his daily life with Cheng Yi, Shen Ran became unstoppable.
“We live together, we work nearby — and we even have matching rings! Mom, Dad, isn’t that enough proof? If you still want more, then the only thing left is for us to go register our marriage and show you the certificate!”
Originally, Shen Ran hadn’t planned to take it this far.
But Chen Xu’s behavior was just too outrageous — utterly shameless.
Spouting lies so boldly? Twisting black into white?
Who couldn’t play that game — ?!
Don’t underestimate Boss Shen, the man who stands by the side of that sharp-tongued Cheng Yi…!
Since the world hadn’t been kind to him, this twenty-something-year-old had no choice but to carve out his own path.
It was obvious Shen Xianming was beginning to be convinced. “Hmm. Normally, if someone’s home and company are that close together, it’s not just coincidence.”
Fu Sijie also nodded. “I know about that designer, Qi Youqing. I once ordered a pair of earrings from him and waited a full six months. There’s no way a proposal involving him was a last-minute decision.”
If the time and place hadn’t been so serious, Shen Ran would’ve really wanted to burst into wicked laughter — heh heh heh heh!
Look, look, look! Chen Xu’s face had gone completely green!
Pleased with the reactions around him, Shen Ran delivered the final blow:
“Also, Mom, Dad — do you remember how, back in college, I barely scraped by in several of my classes?”
